SHADOW OF THE TOMB RAIDER
MY REVIEW
PART 1: A survivor is born
And that would be me.
A hardcore classic TR fan who declares herself a hater of everything TR related after Angel of Darkness.
Iβve played Shadow after abandoning TR since 2013. As @MallowRex said, I endured it and finished it against all odds.
But why could I play it without liking it? After all, I couldnβt play Rise twice. First, I abandoned it before Syria. Second time, I abandoned it after Syria. Well... Rise is more boring than Anniversary and thatβs saying something.
Anyway, letβs do this.
I want to highlight the good things in this game before I go cold blood.
The good things are: gameplay and environments.
It doesnβt matter who Iβm playing as when it comes to gameplay tho. Is it Lara Croft? Or Nathan Drake? Aloy? Ellie Williams? Chloe Frazer?
The mechanics are similar in all these videogames and I enjoyed them all. That doesnβt mean Shadow is similar or superior to the others. I know people enjoy a good gameplay but I couldnβt care less about it. Give me a Life is Strange anytime and Iβd choose it over all these.
The environments are beautiful tho. I still think they are afraid of making it colourful because that would erase the βrealistic featureβ which they love sooooo much. However, I think it has the best landscapes since TR Underworld (except for the PS2 version which should have never existed and deserves a shelf in hell).
Then... Why do I want to die if I enjoyed the gameplay part? I should like it just a bit if I managed to finish it for sure. Well, thatβs the main reason that makes me want to kill myself.
Devs: You have a good gameplay. You put your soul into making a beautiful world such as Paititi. You make an incredible effort putting details here and there. But then, you have no interest in the main character at all. You donβt care about clever dialogues. Itβs all a cliche. Is it your goal to make us cringe?
Those who know me learnt what my preferences are when it comes to a videogame:
1. Storyline
2. Characters and their evolution
3. Dialogues
4. Music
5. Gameplay
Do you understand now?
Wait for PART 2 of the review because Iβm slaughtering this
