Slater laughed, genuinely this time, clapping Nick on the shoulder in that playful, brotherly way he had. "Alright, alright, you made your point. Iâm officially banned from stealing your food. Scoutâs honor." He even threw up a mock salute, all grinning mischief. Then he straightened up, flashing that charming smile. "Come on, buddy. Letâs go get you a fresh slice. Iâll even let you pick two this time. Gotta rebuild that trust somehow, right?" He nudged Nick lightly with his elbow, already heading toward the pizza place like he hadnât just committed a grave betrayal. "You like extra cheese, right? Or should I pretend I don't know that too?" He teased over his shoulder.
nick stared at slater for a moment. they weren't that mad, but they needed to keep it going. for the principal of the thing. eyes narrowed a bit more, until the other offered two slices.
time to let him off the hook.
"...i was done anyway." nick promised as he threw his arm around slater. "don't worry." a cheeky grin made its way onto his face. "i'd rather just go do something fun now. would that be okay?" he didn't have many friends, so the ones he had-- like slater-- he treated like pure gold... unless they stole his pizza.
Zack blinked, his mouth parting a little in surprise before a soft, almost bashful laugh tumbled out of him. He rubbed the back of his neck, cheeks coloring slightly even in the dim light, like he wasnât quite sure what to do with the sudden honesty.
âOh,â he breathed out, smiling a little too wide, a little too relieved. âCool. Cool-cool-cool. That, uh⌠that makes a lotta sense.â
He fidgeted with the hem of his shirt, stealing a glance at Ray from under his lashes. âI mean, not that it matters what I think, butâgood for you, man. Seriously.â His voice dropped lower, almost shy. âYou shouldnât have to pretend for anyone. I am gay as well.â
ray watched the other's cheeks go red and he shook his head. he'd always been allowed to be open in his family, always backed up and protected if anyone had anything to say. he didn't see the shame in being gay. he didn't know why it would be a secret at all.
the other's nerves quickly gave him an idea.
"good for me for... being out?" he tilted his head as he watched the other fidget. "i mean, it's not a big deal... right?"
the whispered admission made him chuckle slightly. "are we not telling anyone?" he muttered back.

chuck laughed as he stared at the woman in front of him while ordering his last drink of the night from the bar. "come on... come on. i know you think i'm trouble; most of the women around here do. but you haven't even given me a chance to prove myself." before this moment, a guy tried to rob chuck, which led to chuck putting him in a headlock before sending him on his way. however, trish's demeanor suggested otherwise. "i'm a boys' basketball coach by day, so i'm used to dealing with reckless assholes regularly," he replied, clearly unimpressed. yes, chuck was well aware that he was referring to the teens he coached in that description. "you can't be mad at me for handling the situation, right? it could have been worse."
trish sighed as she looked the man over. "you put a man in a headlock within five minutes of my shift starting. what am i supposed to believe?" still, the man he'd put in a headlock had left, and there'd been no more trouble. "whatever," she waved a hand in his direction. "just try to avoid anything else?"
she was about to turn and walk away before she paused, chewing her lip. "...how old are the kids you coach?" she was, of course, thinking of her son, corbin. he'd started showing an interest in playing basketball like his daddy-- a man he never saw anymore.

"you look like you're about to make a mess of my restaurant." trish's jaw clenched as she watched the other person, "no offense..."

"...it did NOT want you to eat it." nick's voice rose incredulousy. "it was my slice and it knew where home was. you took it from me."
an offer to buy them another slice did pique their interest. "...okay. fine. truce. but don't do it again."
Zack blinked, eyebrows lifting as he tilted his head a little. âWaitâshe said that because you turned her down? Damn.â He let out a low whistle, then squinted at you like he was trying to read fine print.
âI mean, no offense, man, but⌠rejecting her that fast? That confident? You sure youâre not, like, at least a little into dudes?â He held up his hands real quick, grinning. âNot judging! Justâyâknow, the math's mathing.â
Then he leaned in like he was about to whisper a government secret. â'Cause if I got hit with a âhow you gonna be shortâ after getting turned down? Iâd spiral. You just shrugged. Thatâs power. Thatâs suspiciously calm power.â
He raised an eyebrow, lips twitching. âSo⌠you sure?â
ray chuckled in response to the question from the other, his eyebrows inching upward. "me? into dudes?" he scoffed.
clearly, zack didn't know him very well. ray was VERY into dudes. very openly, and he wasn't shy about it either. that was, in fact, why he turned the woman down.
"nah, nah. good logic. that's exactly what happened. i'm gayer than liberace on a rainbow." he admitted. "she was cute, but not even a little my type, you feel?"

This has been on my mind for long but Iâm gonna do this - please reblog this if youâre comfortable with pre-establishing relationships.
