This isn't even a shower thought. This is something that should be mandatory in schools. One time when I was working construction, one of the guys I worked with was telling how he was tired of his son playing video games all the time and how he would ask him if he wanted to help fix things around the house to learn some basic carpentry/electrical/plumbing skills and his son had absolutely no interest. He went on to say that kids these days will never know how to fix a toilet or change the oil in a car (things that are fairly simple). At that time I had never changed my own oil or fixed a toilet, but I thought to myself, "you know, this guy is right." I didn't go out of my way to learn those types of things but the next time they came up I asked my dad about them. This country is slowly loosing its ability to do anything for ourselves. Too many people want to have a white collar job and a nice house and cars. I've heard many people say, "if I can afford to have someone else fix it, then why should I fix it?" But who is going to fix their house and car when something breaks? There is a dwindling number of mechanics, plumbers, and carpenters. I'm not saying that more people need to become blue collar workers but, if we all learned how to fix things ourselves you wouldn't need to be reliant on others to do things for you. Plus not to mention, it feels good when you accomplish something. Because then anytime you flush your toilet, or your car stops making that squeaking noise, or the you look at the trim around your window that looks so nice, you know that you did that and you can be proud of your work.
