Having your interests mocked as a kid and general low self esteem will have you insulting the things you like even when they're generally considered very good. Because you like it, and historically when you like something it's stupid and not worth anyone's time. So you will say nonsense like "I recommend this book/game/film, but it's okay if you hate it, it sucks, I really enjoyed it but that's because I'm an idiot" and you are recommending them the Citizen fucking Kane of that particular media type. And importantly: you need to stop doing this it is killing you

One of the most annoying genres of people on the internet are people who act like they believe science is one single monolithic thing. Like, you'll see an article saying something like "scientists studying the movement of tectonic plates", and then in the comments there'll be several smug people saying "smh why are scientists doing this instead of finding a cure for cancer", like. Why would a geologist be doing that.

i dislike the weird jump to blame suicide victims for their suicides and call them selfish. suicide is very frequently in some way a social murder. i think instead of blaming someone who was in such a dark place that they saw no other way out we should maybe be blaming the people who threw gas on the fire, such as those with a lot of power to make that person's life that bad or those who abused them into it. is that really that unreasonable

This is my hot take of the month. Re: rpf discourse. Bleh. I know tumblr is the rpf website and people gonna do what they’re gonna do, but it does seem to me that rpf posts about a player (especially shitposts/offhanded remarks/yk) dont especially need to be in that player’s or team’s tag. “Oh but filtering” if you have a tendency to rpf about a player, someone who dislikes that player to the extent of filtering their tag can either not follow you, or suck it up. “Oh but organization” this is somewhat fair to me but again—my player tags, on my own blog, aren’t smth I want to see rpf in when I’m going through them. You can have an organizational tag for rpf (and hey guess what, that works for filtering too). I am an rpf warrior and I firmly believe we should all just have fun But I don’t think all that needs to go into a main tag. I’m scrolling through a player tag trying to see photos of them n shit, not to hear which man of the hour someone thinks they’re fucking.

To enjoy running through a beautiful field of grass and flowers (ao3) you have to tolerate the fact that bugs (fics you don’t like) are there and maybe you will even encounter one, but you can use bugspray (filtered tags) to reduce the likelihood of that. Because the alternative is not getting to experience the beautiful field of grass and flowers.
