The mewgenic worms have gotten me, so can I request general romantic headcannons for the mewgenics crew (many butch, frank, Organ donor/ Y/n (ha) and steven)
Yeah those are my favorites too!!
For starters...getting close to Butch, even as a friend, was no small feat. He obviously has a very guarded personality and doesn't just let anybody in.
But as time goes on, he lets you stick around his hideout and actually doesn't mind your presence.
You're always either thanking him for his combat advice, asking for self-defense tips (for humans), or simply chatting with him about what you've been up to lately.
Your kindness made him open up to you surprisingly quick, yet he hesitates to tell you why he really wants your retired fighters, thinking you'd find his reasons stupid and pathetic.
One night, however, you learn the truth after finding him in the Boneyard, drinking near Guillotina's empty grave.
He often came here after your cats killed her three times total. Since then, you've sent them up against Kaiju and helped them journey to the depths of hell, up to outer space, and even through time itself.
But despite how busy you've been, you kept wondering if Butch ever resented you for killing his childhood pet.
The question stuck to you like a tick for months, although you're surprised when he says he never once blamed you.
"You did what you had to do.." He insisted, knowing she wasn't that same cat he knew and loved. That gluttonous cannibal who ran away from home wasn't his Tina anymore. She was a threat and had to be put down for good..but obviously he hasn't moved on yet.
Although relieved he didn't secretly hate you, you couldn't fault him for still grieving. So you sat with him for a while, becoming his shoulder to cry on as he talked about how lonely he's felt all these years.
You knew he hardly remembered anything about his past--besides growing up somewhere cold, surrounded by wires and cables and chemical smells--and that he had no family at all, not even a father figure to cling to.
With Tina gone, that loneliness just grew even more unbearable, creating a hole in his heart that no amount of cats could fill.
You simply listened and comforted him, eventually escorting him back to his hideout before the dead grew restless. After that, you went home, doubting he'll remember anything he was blubbering to you about.
But to your surprise, he's at your doorstep the next day, wanting to apologize for acting the way he did.
"I was ACTUALLY trying to work up the courage to ask you out." He grinned, yet the smile fades when he sees a look of disbelief cross your face. "What? I was serious! I...I had it written out and.....ugh, nevermind. I made myself look like a stupid and desperate loser who cries like a little bitch-"
"Hey. You weren't "stupid" or "desperate" last night, you were being honest and emotional. I like that in a guy." You chuckle, leaning against the doorframe. "Look, if I say yes to going out with you...does that mean you'll deliver on that promise you made when we first met?"
At first he was confused...until he realizes you meant the "kiss behind the dumpster" promise, and his face turns beet red, flustered that you were dead serious about taking him up on that offer.
He only said it as a joke, but when you agreed to go out with him, he was ready to deliver on that.
Eventually it happened behind the P-Mart, and for someone with zero dating experience....he was surprisingly a great kisser.
Sure, it could've taken place under better circumstances, considering you two were just fleeing from a pissed-off Magnus not too long ago.
Yet despite all your cuts, bruises, and overall sweatiness, it didn't make the moment any less romantic. This is what you've signed up for and you made sure Butch knew that by giving him another kiss (before Tracy yelled at you to leave).
Aside from helping him run his underground operation, dates mainly involved taking walks through the park, sharing your own life stories before Boon County with him and/or chatting about the crazy stuff your cats recently went through.
You make him take breaks from training cats, more or less forcing him to stay overnight at your place. You even gave him his own bedroom and shower, not wanting him going back to a soggy cardboard box.
He's grateful yet awkward whenever you spoil him, as he doesn't have much to give you in return...and whatever he does was mostly from the trash. But considering your cats have brought home valuable things from corpses, dung, etc. trinkets from the nearby garbage cans were the least of your worries.
It took a long time for him to be comfortable enough to remove his mask, but you finally got to see his face--littered with healed scars from the lab and recent fights he's been in. He's heavily insecure about a lot of them, and cried when you reassured him he still looked handsome.
From there on, he promised to keep it off when around you (but he puts it back on at his hideout, wanting to keep up the "tough ruffian" image for his feline army).
For starters, Frank knows "love" is many things. Like love for his mom, love for expanding your house, love for the retired cats you send him.
But the "romantic" type of love is something he's not too familiar or sure about.
Yet he keeps talking to you about the "organ" in his chest "wriggling" like a maggot whenever he thinks about you.
At first you were mortified..until you realized he was talking about his heart, and there wasn't actually a maggot who had taken over him.
After that, you just laugh it off and ask if he'd come out from the sewers to spend time with you.
He's obviously afraid, worried that the local children will make fun of him with some wacky nursery rhyme or he'll set off a chain reaction of crying babies everywhere, or even worse.....you'll find his ramblings too strange and leave like everyone else.
But you reassure him you won't let that happen. Not on your watch. Because you're not "everyone else".
You like listening to him talk. Even if his stories start to make little sense the more he goes on and he forgets what he said halfway through.
He's always visiting your house just to see how that new room of yours is coming along, greeting every cat by name and playing with them for some time.
You suggest that he could build another one: a space dedicated to him so he could stay with you.
"Hmm...sewers is comfortable. All Frank knew when we became weird. But we.....we think would be more comfortable here with [y/n]." He smiles. "Here? It's no so weird. Hope you don't mind the bumps and itchies on us. But we'd like to see the rats still. They get lonely without Frank."
"That's alright. You can visit them whenever you want. The pipes here still connect to the sewer, y'know." You remind him, and he beams at this re-realization.
Unfortunately, despite all the medical products and retired clerics you had.....nothing could help you get any closer to finding a cure or remedy for his condition.
It's clear that he had some kind of parasite attached to his body--a small bean-shaped creature with a blank stare, indifferent to your presence.
Franks' not oblivious to it. Far from that, in fact. He knows he's living on borrowed time and frets over how long he'll have left with you...
Tbh you don't like to think about it either. It keeps you up at night sometimes.
So you just help him manage his symptoms and do what you can to ease his discomfort, being a good and supportive partner through and through.
Similar to Frank, the relationship sorta....just happened when you convinced him to come out of hiding and spend time with you (but only after you became noseblind to the stench of death surrounding him).
Despite him taking your name, it was a non-issue. You had no idea who he used to be, so if he found comfort and identity in that, then that was fine by you.
He eases into the dating scene surprisingly fast, often holding your hand as you both take walks through the Boneyard and talk about the dead, undead, afterlife, etc. etc.
Fortunately, the local maggot population doesn't bother you despite the fact that you're the human solely responsible for killing multiple Mama Maggots.
The zombies, ghosts, skeletons, and werecats are still a major threat to your safety, however, leading to Organ Grinder either distracting them or helping you run away.
You're stunned that he wants you to live, thinking he'd prefer you to be a zombie like him, living forever by his side.
But he doesn't wanna see that happen. Not yet at least. Only when your time properly comes.
He's gone into more depth about his time in the Throbbing Domain, telling you that he was once close to the King (whose name was apparently "Simon"), yet he couldn't remember what exactly led up to his decision to betray him and seal the realm's entrance.
You told him that he must've done it for a good reason. To keep the King from wrecking havoc and spreading his rule beyond his self-made monarchy.
He just smiles and thanks you, before going back to talking about gross stuff.
When you gained access to the Rift to rescue the Kaiju that got trapped there, only to encounter a great foe who used Organ Grinder's image to attack your cats...you were quite shocked and saddened.
You knew it was a cruel trick Soahc was playing on you, but even after slaying the interdimensional god, you rushed back home to make sure your partner was safe and sound.--and thankfully he was, napping in that cardboard box behind your house.
He was a little grumpy about being disturbed from his rest, but after hearing your story about the Rift, he reassures you that he's the real deal.
Tbh he's quite impressed how your cats have been slaying a handful of all-powerful entities without repercussions from the universe.
Dr. Beanies begged to differ but neither of you gaf about him
Just because you're in a relationship with this omnipresent entity, that doesn't mean you'll be given free passes to save your cats from untimely demises.
No matter how unfair or ridiculous the circumstances were, you couldn't cheat their deaths. Plain and simple.
"How can we keep our relationship alive if YOU keep cheating?!!!!!!" He tend to reiterate, even at times where you're not sending your cats on missions, trying to undo the past.
Sometimes he'll blurt it out just to mess with you, popping into your dimension if he sees you talking to Butch or Tink or anyone.
Then he disappears when you turn around to yell at him, making you look like a crazy person to the other residents of Boon County (but then again, they've seen crazier things).
Yeah, Steven can be a little shit at times..but you love him regardless.
Luckily you get to poke fun at him for one thing and one thing only: His inability to say "fuck".
While he does get irked about you constantly travelling to the past and future, trying to change fate and meet the Creator, part of him can't help but find it entertaining.
Seeing how your cats mirror your courage, perseverance, and strategic mind, carrying themselves through the toughest battles with hope in their hearts....it's all so amusing to him.
He'll sit back and enjoy the show, enjoying his Steven-flavored popcorn (unless he had to interfere ofc).
He wishes he could pull you into his dimension, but....if you're not a god like him, you'd lose your mind in an instant and that wouldn't be any fun.
The safest place where you could spend time with him is the Box, where you just listen to him yap about stuff related to his species or about The End, which he seemed to quite fixated on...as if he knew the place like the back of his hand.
If you ARE a god like him, however, you two will just dunk on Dr. Beanies for trying to mess with the timelines and laugh at his suffering whenever his experiments go awry.
You like calling it divine justice, having Steven-flavored popcorn at the ready.
