Klaine

Kurt and Blaine were lying on the grass in Kurt's backyard.

Kurt had just began his first year at elementary school three weeks ago and Blaine, who still had a whole year of kindergarden was curious about all the things his best friend learned.

There was so much to learn about and Kurt, being a year older than Blaine, was super smart and had so many answers to all of Blaine's questions. Blaine couldn't wait to be older and go to school too.

"What did ya learn about today," he asked his friend.

"About the planets and the universe and stuff," Kurt answered.

"Can you tell me ab't it?"

"Hm well, there's the sun, which is like super duper big, and everything goes in c'rcles 'round it. Like all the planets. 'xcept the moon, that goes around the earth, but i don't know if that's a real planet. I don't know all the names without looking, but if you wanna you can help me with my homework. We're s'pposed to make up a sentence that starts with all the same letters as the planets around the sun."

"That's so cool. I wanna go to school with you," Blaine mumbled. He had been upset when his mother had told him he was still a bit to young to enroll in school and would thus not be in the same class as Kurt. They werent even in the same building anymore, so they couldn't see each other during recess either, like they were used to.

"What 'bout the univers," Blaine inquired after a pause.

"What about it?"

"What's that?"

Kurt thought for a moment before responding. "Well it's even bigger than all of that other stuff. It's like everything. We're in the universe, but the sun is too, and all the planets, and at night the stars as well. It's like super big and everything in comparison everything is tiny. For the universe we're even smaller than the smallest ant you could imagine. I guess sorta like when you're on a plane, 'xcept ev'ry planet looks as small as the people do. At least my teacher said it's sorta like that when I asked," Kurt explained.

"Hey Kurt?"

"Yeah?," he said turning onto his side to look at his friend.

"Absolutely not. No way in hell am I wearing that Blaine," Kurt told Blaine, who held the 'ugly' Christmas sweater Kurt had shoved back at him in his hands.

"Come on it's just for one photo. I have matching ones for me, Halik and Malaki. We'll take one picture for our Christmas cards and then you can burn it," Blaine begged, "It's going to look cute. Like a family photo. Come on it's Malaki's first Christmas with us."

"Like hell. I'm not going to send anyone a picture of me in that. It's tacky. Especially if you're putting that on the dogs as well. We are not that tacky of family."

"It's not tacky. It's cute. It's Christmas-y. And it's a great way to announce that Malaki is a new member of our clan. Please, can we at least try? We can even put a picture of you burning the sweater on the back, just to make sure your reputation as 'Person With Good Taste In Clothes' doesn't get ruined."

That got a smile out of Kurt. And really what bad could one tacky Christmas photo in an ugly Christmas sweater that matched with his dogs do, Kurt thought, considering how happy it would probably make Blaine. He heaved a big sight. "Don't think I won't take you up on that offer," he warned his husband.

In that moment Malaki, their newest family member came trotting into the bedroom. Blaine had apparently put her into her sweater already. When Blaine had told him they were 'matching' he had assumed they would all wear the same, or similar looking sweaters. Apperently that was a false assumption. Kurt's sweater was big and an ugly red with Santa's face right there on his chest, way too clichee and not form fitting at all, it mostly looked like a red bag, which was half the reason he didn't want to put it on.

Malaki on the other hand was in a green and red stripped sweater with little bells, obviously resembling an elf.

"I thought they were matching?," he finally said.

"Well yes. You see you're Santa, while got Mrs. Santa Clause. Malaki is, as you can see, an elf and Halik is Rudolph. Or maybe just a reindeer she seemed to be okay with the antlers, the nose seemed like a no. Oh and Malaki has a lil hat too, but that doesn't need to be on right now."

"Alright," Kurt relented. "Let's just do it before I realise how much I don't want this. And don't forget the promise of the picture of me burning that sack you call sweater."

"Love you," Blaine smiled and leaned up for a small peck on the lips.

"Kurt it's a sign!"

"It's really not. We have to think about this before we make any decisions. You do know this is also influenced by Halik."

Blaine was trying to convince Kurt that meeting a Whippet at the park that was actually from the local shelter and adoptable and got along with their 2 year old italian greyhound was somehow fate. He had attempted to convince Kurt to get a second dog already.

"It's not even a puppy, the lady said she's 1 and a half years old, which fits perfectly with Halik. She's housetrained, so we don't have to go through that again. They got along and she was an absolute sweetheart. Plus super beautiful. Just think about all the matching outfits you can put them in in winter," Blaine argued.

"It's not just that, though," Kurt said, "It's extra space and money and time. I'm not saying no, I'm just saying we have to think about this like adults. Just because Halik was okay with her in the park, doesn't mean she'll accept another dog in her home."

"We could try though. Money really isn't a concern for us right now, our appartment has enough place and we have to walk Halik anyways, a second leash won't add that much time," Blaine said, trying to convince Kurt of his point. He added, "We've been talking about this anyways. And now the universe is sending us a sign that it's time. Plus she clearly choose us. She came straight to us when that lady let her off the leash and Halik wasn't even around. And neither of us had like super nice smelling doggy biscuits. Will you just accept a sign from above, from that gorgeos little pup. Or give in to your husbands pleading to at least try. We can have a test run, see if it all works out."

"Fine," Kurt relented, "We can go visit the shelter tomorrow and ask about her and maybe see about that trial. But if Halik's not on board it's a no-go. I will not make Halik's live worse just to have another animal. We all have to be 100% convinced. Deal?"

"Yes," Blaine squealed. He could feel that this dog was right.

And so feeling became reality and Malaki, as they'd renamed the gray whippet, moved in and carved herself a whole in all three of their hearts that only she could fill and thus secured her a place forever in their home.

Here's the colour i was thinking

Kurt woke up to a heavenly smell. Bacon and eggs and maybe waffles? Pancakes? And definitly a pot of coffee.

He was trying to gather enough courage to get out of bed and leave the warm blanket cocoon he was currently wrapped in when Blaine appeared in the doorway with a tray in his hands.

"Good, I'm just in time," he said looking at his sleepy husband.

Kurt stretched and asked, "What for?"

"Bringing you breakfast in bed before you get up to investigate what your amazing husband is doing in the kitchen."

"Did I miss an anniversary or something important?," Kurt inquired.

"No, you just have the most awesome husband ever who woke up early and decided to treat you to breakfast in bed on a lazy and rainy Sunday."

"God, you're amazing," Kurt said and then sat up. He reached his hands towards the tray to see what Blaine had put together. "The best, I love you," he moaned when he spotted the huge pile of bacon, his favorite on lazy days like that Sunday.

Blaine smiled, clearly pleased by the fact that he pleased Kurt with his surprise, "Let's get eating then, and afterwards maybe cuddles and movie? Halik won't want to go out anyways and she's sleeping like a stone on the couch."

"You can get all the cuddles you want, my amazing husband," Kurt told him.

Kurt and Blaine loved their dog.

Little Halik was the perfect addition to their family, combining traits of a 'typical' dog and some more cat-like characteristics. If two people could actually create a dog, Halik would most definitly be the product of Kurt and Blaine.

As she grew into a teenaged dog she adopted more and more of her owners quirks and personalities.

Halik was just as excitable as Blaine. She loved 'her' humans and was an absolute cuddle whore. Soon after she came into the Hummel-Anderson household Blaine found out that she loved singing (which was more like howling and got them more than one complaint from their upstairs neighbour). Another thing she had in common with him was her asolute hatred od being left alone. She had learned to stay alone for a couple of hours and was well behaved, but Blaine knew his dog.

She also resembled Kurt in many ways though. The most obvious one was her love for clothes. Kurt always felt weird telling people that his dog loved clothes (and of course everybody assumed he was projecting and that it was more important to him), but Halik loved prancing around with a new sweater. The only difference was that she didn't care what her owners put her in, she just seemed to enjoy the feeling of being wrapped up and warm ("It's like a constant hug," Blaine had explained). She also seemed to enjoy Kurt's clothes though, his shoes in particular. While Kurt was worried that she loved them so much because she'd found a nice chewing toy, it turned out that she sometimes just liked to curl up on them, especially when neither Kurt nor Blaine had time to entertain her, she'd sneak into the closet and curl up on the shoes for a nap.

But their favorite quirk of hers was that she brings them gifts when they were sad. Kurt always got a sock or underwear (which she must have had a secret stash of somewhere) and Blaine got a teddy bear or chew toy of hers.

“Hey Kurt?”

Kurt answered with a sound signifying a ‘go on,’ at least that’s how Blaine interpreted it.

“What’s your favourite part?,” he asked then.

“Of what?”

“Me.”

Kurt sat up and lay his book onto the coffee table face down to properly look at Blaine. “All of it. Why are you asking?”

Blaine just shrugged and looked down a little. “But just one. You can’t like it all the same. There’s ought to be a part of me you like more than the others and parts you like less.”

Kurt could feel that Blaine tried to sound light and maybe funny, but he could hear and see the self doubt below that; that maybe he wasn’t good enough, that he’d gained weight and was unattractive. Kurt was glad Blaine tried to find a way to see something in himself that was worth loving, but he also knew that if he’d pointed out one part of Blaine’s body as his favorite he’d read that as him disliking every other part. His self doubt, sometimes even self hate, and depression often made Blaine feel like this; like he wasn’t worth being loved. So Kurt tried reassuring him, and showing him that he was in fact loved, and very much worth that,  as much as he could.

Kurt was buzzing when he got to their apartment. He couldn’t wait to tell Blaine about the great offering Isabell had proposed to him. He was still working at Vogue dot com as an intern with a low salary, but now Ms. Isabell Wright, his boss, herself had offered him a higher position and the chance to learn from her and later on maybe even the possibility of making it into the highest ranks at Vogue.

Kurt was very excited about this prospect. Of course he would have to work hard to actually archive all that, but he was ready for it; fashion, writing and exploring new and sometimes questionable trends excited and filled him with joy more than he’d ever expected.

Isabelle sometimes let him try out some things someone in his particular position wouldn’t be allowed to, but to most people at the office it was unsurprising, they all knew Isabelle adored him and liked to treat as if he were her own. Sometimes this caused his coworkers to be jealous, but a lot of the older and higher employes didn’t seem to care or notice or where happy for him, it seemed.

When he found Blaine in front of his laptop he told him what Isabelle had offered him. When he finished his tale he waited for Blaine’s reaction.

“So is that what you want to do?,” he asked in a genuinely curious and interested way, instead of condescenting, as Kurt had feared.

“I mean I think so. I’m not 100 percent sure, but I really fell in love with that whole world, more so than I imagined when I applied for that internship. I still love music and musical theater and acting and singing, but to be honest I’m not convinced that’s the path for me anymore. It’ll always be a part of me, no doubt, but maybe not as big or important as I imagined in high school. For now, at least, I can continue to do both, I have less a year left at NYADA and Isabelle said we’d get it all under one hat, so I won’t be giving up all that. But it’s a lot of extra work and possibly stress and I’ll have much less free time.”

Blaine smiled at him, Kurt seemed truly passionate and sincere while explaining what was going on in his head.

“You should go for it. This is a huge opportunity for you, one that many people can only dream about. If you love it that much it’s worth pursuing, even if you find out that it’s not the right choice for you in the end. Isabelle gave you this great opportunity, without taking away your other dream, or passion, or option, I guess. You know I’ll support you with whatever you do, but this seems to really get you going. When you get back from the office you seem happy, sometimes tired, but always happy. I think it’ll be worth the extra time and stress and effort, because it’s something you’re passionate about and something that makes you happy.”

Being the new kid sucked.

Blaine knew this from experience.

The first time he was the new kid was at the tender age of 3, when he had transfered to another kindergarten because his family had moved to a different city. Fortunately for him he had managed to find a new friend quickly, but a lot of kids still avoided him for a while, which really saddened Blaine.

After that he had a break, his elementary school experience was pleasant enough, with his best friend Kurt at his side, and no transfers.

Middle school was harder, Blaine started noticing that he was different, but unfortunately so did the other kids. He didn't have Kurt at his side at that time, at least not in school, so he had to deal with the bullying alone (though Kurt had his fair share of that too, just in another school).

Blaine's High School career started much the same way, except that he had the courage to come out at 14, which gave the 'alphas' something new to bully him for (though his height and choice of clothes were still critisised too).

After the bullying reached a high, landing both Blaine and one of his friends in hospital after those same jocks thought they'd try to beat the queer out of them after a Sadie Hawkins dance, Blaine transfered again.

This time to a safe heaven, Dalton Academy. But that didn't change the fact that Blaine was the new kid. Nobody was mean to him, the most he got were some looks, though those could probably be attributed to the bruises and cuts on his face still. What really got to him was that, as he had transfered mid-year, everybody had already found their group of friends, he didn't feel like he would fit in. Of course he found the Warblers and a wonderful group of friends after a while, but he still hated standing out and being alone, not having anywhere to belong.

So, considering his backstory, Blaine wondered why he had decided to transfer yet again as he walked out of the principals office with a locker number and combination and a list of his classes. Turning two corners was all it took to answer that particular corner.

He saw Kurt, his boyfriend, god that was still hard to believe even though they had been dating for a while. He confidently walked towards him, straightening his bowtie. So far he had managed to keep his transfer a surprise, so now it was time to clue Kurt in. Kurt was standing at his locker, fixing his hair when Blaine finally reached him.

"Hey you," he said with a smile, leaning into a locker next to Kurt's.

Kurt seemed happy to see him and greeted him happily, until he realised that Blaine was there in the middle of  school day, "Shouldn't you be in school?," he asked while walking away, presumably towards his next class.

"For someone who loves clothes so much I can't believe you havent noticed I'm not wearing my Dalton uniform," Blaine said. He gestured towards his outfit, red tight pants with a black polo and of course a bowtie.

Kurt stopped in the middle of the hallway. He turned around looking at Blaine, who could see his eyes were already sparkling with happiness. He was still holding back though, not trusting his own instincts.

"Are you saying what I think you're saying," he asked.

A smile, more like a grin, from Blaine was all it took to confirm his suspicion, "Oh my god," he said launching himself at Blaine to hug him.

He pulled back suddenly though and started rambling that if Blaine only did that for him he could live to resent him and so on, but before his worries could get out of hand Blaine stopped him and told him, "I did this for me, because I can't stand to be apart from the person that I love."

Kurt looked in awe, he smiled at Blaine and seemed to accept and appreciate his statement.

Kurt came home to joyous laughter from their living room.

“You are such a good girl, yeah you are, we have to show your daddy what you can do when he gets home, don’t we?,” he heard Blaine say.

Curiously he stepped into the living room and announced his arrival with a “what do you have to show me?”

Blaine turned around on the sofa and greeted Kurt with a warm smile and a “hey” as the little creature cradled in his arm like a baby wiggled free and sprinted towards Kurt. Once she was there she jumped on and around him excitedly. Too excited, as it turned out, when she left a little puddle of pee on the floor.

“Halik nooo,” Blaine whined, but he was already getting up to get paper towels and a disinfectant.

“Hi to you too my little girl,” Kurt said to the puppy still running circles around him. He picked her up before she could run through her own pee and get the whole house and herself dirty.

“So what’s this thing you two have to show me?,” Kurt inquired after he had given Blaine his hello kiss.

“Wait a moment and we’ll show you. It’s the best, Kurt, I swear. You could not have possibly found a puppy that fits in better with us,” Blaine rambled while cleaning up the mess Halik had made.

That, of course, got Kurt even more curious.

Since he’d brought the small dog home no more than 3 weeks ago they kept discovering new quirks and talents she had.

They now knew she loved lying anywhere high up, like the back of the sofa, but wasn’t very concerned by the height. Which of course just meant they had to be even more careful, her legs were just like tiny sticks after all, and she was still young and thus even more fragile than she’d be as an adult.

Halik also enjoyed being cuddled up under a blanket or a pillow and loved to share naptime with either of them. When it was time to sleep at night she wanted to lie between them if they let her.

Another, albeit not as welcome, quirk she had was the excited peeing, which they hoped would stop as she grew older. But she wasn’t house trained yet and they both knew that with this particular breed it might take longer than with others.

The last thing they had learned about her was that rain was an absolute no-go. She’d pee in the entryway of their building; outside but still covered with a tiny roof and turn around, ready to go back into their warm and dry apartment.

“Okay put her down here for a moment,” Blaine instructed after he had thrown out the paper towels.

Kurt did as he was told and then watched as Blaine fumbled with his phone.

A familiar tune started to play then, the opening chords to ‘Teenage Dream’ and Blaine sang along with a smile.

But Kurt didn’t understand, at least not until the chorus started to play and Halik howled along, at first quietly, a little hesitant, then loud and proud.

Blaine turned the music off and looked at Kurt expectantly.

“Oh my god. We got ourselves a music enthusiast!”

Blaine laughed with joy and placed Halik between them on the sofa.

“I can’t believe I’m actually surprised, of course any addition to our family is going to be a music enthusiast, too,” Kurt said.

Needless to say, they continued to sing with Halik until it was time for a nap.

It had been 5 days. 5 days since she’s been gone. 5 days since all the happiness was drained out of his house.

Kurt was sad and frustrated and angry but overall mostly confused.

Why did it have to be her? Would he really never see his beloved mommy again? Would his daddy ever smile again? In those god-awful 5 days he had seen his father crying and punching walls.

What he had not seen were his father’s eyes on him. He hadn’t felt his touch or any kind of affection.

Even at 8 years old he understood. He understood how sad his dad was, because he was too. But Kurt longed to hug his dad, to reassure himself that at least he was still there, that he was still loved and that there would be a light at the end of the tunnel, no matter how dark their world was right then.

But he knew that he only served as a reminder of what his dad had lost. Everybody told him how much he looked like his mother, how similar their eyes were, their noses, even their hair.

But this fifth day after her surprising and sudden passing, after Burt sat him down and told him he’d never see his mommy again, that she was gone, was probably the worst day, because they were going to her funeral.

Once they got there a lot of people were there to say how sorry they were and to tell them she was a great woman.

Kurt though this part was there to make them happier, but it only accomplished the opposite.

Until Blaine appeared. He was still sad, of course he was, but seeing his best friend got him to smile just the tiniest bit for the first time in 5 days.

And then Blaine said something, and Kurt could remember for the life of him what he had said, but it got him to laugh. A real laugh. In that moment Kurt was really glad to have Blaine in his life.

Kurt was excited for the surprise he had planned for his husband. They finally had enough stability and security in their lives, both in general and work-wise, to make this work, Kurt thought. He was elated that he could make this happen for Blaine, who had expressed his desire since they were little kids.

His parents had never allowed him stating that “it costs too much money,” and that it was “too much responsibility.”

Later, when they lived in New York, Kurt had told him no, his reasoning was quite similar to that of Blaine’s parents.

But now, just three days before Blaine’s 26th birthday, Kurt deemed them ready.

He had made all the preparations, bought everything they would need (at least for the first few days) and had found the perfect one.

This morning he had woken up extra early, careful not to wake Blaine, and gone out to the breeder he was already in contact with for several weeks. He had asked all the important questions (what their character would be like, how much energy do they have, and how long he’d have to go on walks and anything else he would need to know) and met the puppy’s parents, to make sure they were healthy and well. He had visited the breeder a couple of times to check in on the small creature he’d be bringing home.

And finally the vet had given the okay; the puppy was healthy, got all the necessary vaccinations and was old enough to go live in his own family.

Yesterday evening Kurt had made sure to keep Blaine awake for as long as possible, so that he would sleep in longer in the morning, giving Kurt the chance to bring the puppy home before Blaine noticed he was gone.

Now, with the tiny brown/creamy puppy in his arms, he made his way upstairs back into the apartment.

“You’re going to make one man very happy, aren’t you little princess?,” he told the puppy, who looked at everything with wide eyes. She turned her head curiously at him making him laugh.

Once he reached their door he got inside and tried to get everything off while still holding the little dog in his arms.

“Blaine? Honey, I have a big, well small, surprise for you,” he called.

All he got in reply was quiet grumbling and the rustling of their sheets. Still asleep then, Kurt thought.

He made his way into their bedroom and continued to try to wake Blaine up gently. He only succeeded in making Blaine turn away from him and grumbling about being tired still.

“Look, there’s someone here who wants to say hi to you,” Kurt teased.

He gently placed the puppy on Blaine’s chest, he had turned back onto his back before, and told her to “go say hi.”

The little creature carefully made her way up to Blaine’s face sniffed half a time and preceded to shower him in tiny little puppy kisses.

That finally got Blaine to open his eyes. He was about to sit up in excitement, but Kurt held his shoulder down, “You don’t want to catapult her off of you, do you,” he smiled.

Blaine was way too excited to properly respond to that. He reached his arms up to get the puppy to stop kissing him and exclaimed, “Oh my god Kurt. A puppy? Can we keep her? Oh my, are you not the sweetest little thing? Yes you are.”

“She’s yours, honey. Well, technically ours but I got her because of you.”

Blaine’s eyes were shining. Definitely a good idea, Kurt thought.

“What’s her name?,” he asked. Meanwhile the puppy was on her back expecting to get her belly rubbed.

“Well she has a ‘pedigree name’ or whatever that’s called, but the breeder said it wouldn’t be a problem to get her used to whatever name you want.”

“Hm, what should we call you? You little kiss monster, huh?,” he addressed the puppy, who by now was starting to doze off. “I think maybe Halik?,” he looked up to Kurt.

“It sounds special, just like her. I’m sure we’re going to be the only ones screaming after a Halik in the dog park,” Kurt laughed.

“It means kiss in Filipino, so it’s only appropriate, right?”

“Halik it is,” Kurt agreed and sealed the deal with a kiss of his own.

“Blaine? Why is every single piece of clothing you own on our floor,” Kurt asked his still-fiancé, but husband in just under 2 days.

“I have to pack. I don’t know what to pack. I’ve never been to Europe. What kind of weather do they even have? Is it windy? Why did we decide to travel to more than one country anyways, they have different weather probably,” Blaine was rambling while still sorting through his wardrobe.

“And here I thought I was the one who’d always worry about what to wear,” Kurt laughed, “But we’ve been through this. It’s summer, so pack short stuff and a pullover or two, plus long pants and a raincoat and you’ll be fine. And we’re travelling to two countries because two certain someones were fighting about where to go and decided to do both, because we’re awesome like that.”

Blaine sighted, but finally stopped and looked around their bedroom. “I guess I was more frantic than I though I was. You’re right, like always,” Blaine said.

He then got up and started to fold his clothes again and putting them back where it belonged. Kurt helped him with his task, partly refolding Blaine's clothes when he was unsatisfied with his sloppy folding. When they were done he helped Blaine pick out the clothes he actually needed (and the ones he wouldn’t need, it was their honeymoon after all).

“Thank you,” Blaine said when they were done, reaching up to kiss Kurt, “you know I’m really happy to embark on this journey with you.”

“I’d hope so, future husband. I bet Europe is beautiful, they have so much more history there than here. Can you imagine all the castles they have there?”

“Yeah, but that’s not what I meant. I meant our journey. Me and you. For the rest of our lives.”

That got him another kiss.

From the moment they met and Blaine asked him if he would be his friend, he had a great impact on Kurt’s life and the person he had become. Sometimes he wondered what or who he would be if Blaine hadn’t walked up to him that day.

He would definitely be lonelier, Kurt thought. Blaine helped him open up and make friends when they were kids. Later on Kurt had obviously managed that on his own, for one because Blaine went to a different middle and high school than him (at least first half of high school), but mostly because he had the confidence and the will to make friends and find people who liked for who he was, not in spite of it (or not at all).

Kurt firmly believed that Blaine had helped him grow as a person.

But he had a similar effect on Blaine. Though Blaine didn’t need anyone to get him out of his shell when he was a toddler he had difficulties accepting that not everybody was nice to him and that sometimes people were outright mean.

He had to learn that he had to accept himself the way he was, that he didn’t need to be ‘perfect’ for people to like him and that not succeeding wasn’t automatically failing. That he could make mistakes and it would be okay in the end, he’s just a human after all.

Kurt helped him understanding that, learning to accept it and believing in himself.

They both had a great impact on each other’s lives and they were so glad to have each other and continued to grow together.

Although they both sometimes still struggled with those weaknesses and other, new ones, they helped each other accepting and, if possible even overcoming them.

“It’s not the same,” Blaine whined.

Kurt smiled at him sympathetically. Blaine was very nervous about his encounter with Burt, more so than was warranted for considering that a. Burt had always been nice to him and b. he had known him since he was a toddler.

Nonetheless Blaine was convinced that facing Burt as Kurt’s boyfriend is what would finally get him on the man’s bad side. Why, Kurt didn’t know. Burt already told him he was happy for them.

“It’ll be exactly like every other time you’ve come over to my house in the last 13 years. You’ll be fine, I promise.”

Blaine grumbled unhappily, they were only a minute or two away from Kurt’s house.

“You don’t honestly think he’ll just say ‘hello’ and let it go, do you,” Blaine asked.

“Well only one way to find out,” Kurt responded and pulled into his driveway. “Come on then.”

They got their bags out of the back of the car and walked to the door.

“He’ll probably get out his shotgun and threaten me so that I won’t hurt you. Ever. And then proceed to just shoot me, because he won’t trust me when I promise I’ll do my best.”

“He will not,” Kurt chuckled, “he doesn’t even own a shotgun. You do know he’s against violence. And he adores you. Come on now.”

They walked in and discarded their shoes and coats before walking into the living room, where Burt was watching TV.

“Hey dad,” Kurt said while walking towards his door.

“Hello, Mister Hummel,” Blaine added.

That got the man to look away from the screen.

“Hey. Since when do you call me Mister Hummel? I’m still the same old Burt, kid.”

Blaine nodded mutely and followed Kurt downstairs.

“I’ll order a Pizza later if you guys want any,” Burt called after them.

“Thanks dad,” Kurt called back.

Once in his bedroom he turned to his boyfriend with a smug smile, “Truly a horrible experience, I’m glad I got you back in one piece.

“Guess what?,” Blaine said out of nowhere.

“What?,” Kurt asked looking up from his homework. They were currently lounging in Kurt’s room. Blaine was lying on his bed reading a book while Kurt did his homework at his desk.

“No, you have to guess,” Blaine told him.

Kurt gave him a look.

“C’mon Kurt,” he said impatiently when he didn’t get a response.

“I don’t know Blaine. You are bored of your English assignment?”

“No. I mean yes, but no that’s not what you’re supposed to guess.”

“Just tell me.”

“No, you have to guess, that’s the whole point, duh.”

“Have we jumped in time and you are currently your 5 year old self instead of my 17 year old boyfriend?,” Kurt guessed again.

“No.”

Kurt got up with an affectionate smile. Hm, how many tries do I have left?”

“Infinite?”

His affectionate smile turned into a smirk. Blaine could’ve seen that he had something in mind if he had been paying attention. Which, unfortunately for him, was not the case.

“We can’t stay here forever though,” he said slowly approaching his bed. Blaine was still turned away from him, face buried in a pillow.

“With you? I think I totally could,” he mumbled.

“Is that what you wanted me to guess?”

“No. Sorta, but not really.”

“Oh, you so wish I didn’t know your weak spot,” Kurt murmured.

“What?,” Blaine said confused. He turned around just in time to see Kurt tackling him and driving his fingers into his sides and tickling him.

“Nononon-o-,” he scream-laughed, “I surrender, I surrender!”

Kurt stopped the tickling, but seemed to be ready to start again should Blaine have been bluffing.

“So?,” he began.

“I love you,” Blaine said, still laughing.

“Well, I knew that already,” Kurt answered.

“I never said it was news.”

Kurt leaned down and placed a soft kiss on Blaine’s lips.

“Where are we going?,” Blaine asked impatiently.

Kurt chuckled, “I already told you twice, it’s a surprise. Wait and see, honey.”

The only instruction he had gotten for their day was to “dress in warm clothes,” which was really no clue at all, considering the fact that it was winter in NYC.

Blaine was also pretty sure their destination wasn’t too far away from their apartment, because they were currently sitting in a cab and he knows that Kurt would've chosen the subway if their destination was very far away from where they lived. Kurt had used a scarf as a blindfold, so Blaine couldn’t even see in which direction they were.

“Don’t worry we’re nearly there,” Kurt added after a moment.

Slowly the cab came to a complete stop. Blaine heard Kurt paying the driver and felt the cold air as his boyfriend got out, “Stay there I’ll come around and help you out.”

He did as he said. Once outside Blaine heard a couple of people walk past them before Kurt wrapped his arm around Blaine’s and lead him straight ahead.

They walked for another minute or two before they stopped and Kurt told him he could finally take off the blindfold.

Blaine was stunned into silence by what he saw.

It was his first Christmas in NYC so Kurt had told him in advance that he would show him all the wonders of Christmastime in New York City.

Still, Blaine thought that the sight before him was breathtaking. He hadn’t seen anything like it in small town Ohio.

“A Christmas fair?,” he finally got out.

“A Christmas fair,” Kurt confirmed, “Now come on we can look through all the booths and then get some hot chocolate. There’s even an ice skating rink we can go skate on, if you want.”

“Sounds like a perfect day.”

Late, late, late, late.

Blaine checked his pocket watch again. It told him it was 5.15pm already. He and Kurt had agreed to meet at 5pm sharp to go on a date (and maybe play a little bit later on).

Well, Blaine was sure that play would turn into punishment that day. He just hoped Kurt wouldn’t be too mad, and that they hadn’t lost their reservation due to his tardiness.

Once he finally arrived he tried to spot Kurt. They had agreed to meet in front of a coffee shop a couple of blocks from the restaurant and halfway between Blaine’s apartment and Kurt’s job.

Kurt was nowhere to be seen though. He wasn’t out on the street like Blaine expected him to be, he wasn’t inside the shop either. Blaine even checked the little park on the other side of the street, but Kurt was nowhere to be seen.

Normally Blaine was proud of himself for his punctuality and the fact that he could make his Kurt proud of listening to even the smallest requests.

Today he got distracted though. He was writing an essay for one of his classes and when he checked the big clock on his wall, he realised he was running late already.

Now he was panicking. He pulled his phone up to see if Kurt had called. He hadn’t. So Blaine hastily dialled his number only for it to go to voice mail after one ring. He decided to send a text message and sat on a bench on the sidewalk hoping Kurt would show up.

He waited and waited and slowly tears began to gather in his eyes.

He had disappointed Kurt, made him angry.

The November air was freezing and after sitting on the bench for 30 minutes Blaine couldn’t feel his fingers anymore.

He didn’t leave though. Kurt wouldn’t let him suffer this long on purpose. Not his Kurt. Something has to have happened. Even if he was as angry as Blaine thought he was, he wouldn’t just let Blaine sit out in the cold for 45 minutes.

“Oh, hey Blaine. Sorry you had to wait,” Kurt’s voice said from his side.

Blaine looked up with his tear-filled eyes.

“Blaine? Honey, what’s wrong? Did something happen?”

“I’m so sorry,” he bawled. Kurt immediately moved to his side and wrapped his arms around him.

“What would you be sorry for, darling? What happened?,” Kurt spoke softly.

“For being late. I-I promise i-it w-wont happen a-aga-again, Sir,” Blaine sobbed, hiding his face in Kurt’s warm neck.

“What are you even talking about? You are early, Blaine, it’s 4.55.”

Blaine looked up at that. He stopped sobbing for the moment, but looked utterly confused. “No it’s not. It’s 5.55. And I got here 20 minutes to late and I’m sorry.”

Another tear escaped his eye, which Kurt quickly wiped away.

“Oh, honey. Do you know what day it is?”

“November 6th?”

“Yes, and that means we’re back to winter time. Summer time ended. Blaine, honey, you were way too early. I’m so sorry you though you were too late. And I wasn’t even here. Jesus I don’t want to know with what explanation your brain had come up with. Come here.”

He hugged Blaine tight enough for all of his worries of Kurt being mad vanished.

“Let’s go home,” Kurt said after a moment.

“B-but our reservation?”

“I think you deserve a little time to relax, come on we’ll take a bath to warm you up and then you have one wish free, how does that sound?”
