Shane is having a Bad Day.
He's in his head a lot, his inner monologue is being exceptionally rude, and he's just taking things a little more personally than normal.
Ryan notices he's subdued, not as witty, more self-deprecating in his jokes and bits.
When they have a quiet moment, Ryan pulls him aside.
"What's going on with you?" He asks, concern in his eyes.
"Me? Nothing, I'm fine." Shane lies.
Ryan doesn't buy it for a second. He knows Shane, though, and knows that his Midwestern sensibilities usually cause his emotions to be a bit stunted. So he lets it go - or, at least Shane thinks he does.
At the end of the day, Ryan invites him over. Shane isn't really feeling it, wants to go home and hide in bed until his head is back on straight.
But Ryan looks at him with those gorgeous eyes and that beautiful smile and Shane finds himself saying yes.
When they get back to his place, Ryan throws himself into doing everything he can to cheer Shane up. He queues up Shane's favorite movie, makes homemade popcorn, and gives him a drink.
Shane doesn't even realize he's being doted on until he's getting ready to leave for the night and finds himself to be totally relaxed and back in his correct headspace.
He looks at Ryan as he's getting ready to walk out the door as if he's seeing him for the first time.
Shane thinks, in this moment, love is real and he has found it.
