Ad blocking/reporting should have some sort of an "I never want to see this fucking ad again and if you fail me and show it to me again I will track down where you live and fucking kill you" option.
genuinely what makes me most angry- like, truly angry- about the online fandoms baseless push to label robby as a vile misogynist who's every action is seeped in woman-hating, is the fact that it stops the cast and crew from achieving their aim of centering and platforming healthcare workers and the broken american system that fails these workers.
because, congratulations, now all actors and producers are being asked about is robby's misogyny and the fandoms disproportionate reaction to a character leaving. they have to spend all their interview time talking about how robby is actually altered and suffering due to his mental health and that's why hes yelling, NOT because he hates women- when it should have been OBVIOUS. and it IS obvious to viewers with critical thinking. congratulations, now they're being asked about cast rotations on a show that they have ALWAYS been open about being one with a revolving door.
your lack of media literacy and inability to understand why a suicidal character might yell at those around him have stopped the cast from being able to spend precious interview time talking about doctors and nurses who are suffering, because it's now become more pertinent for you to need simple things spelled out to you like a baby. well fucking done.
they WANT to talk about what needs to change in the american system. they WANT to talk about specific patient stroylines like cancer, rape and insurance issues and how important it is to platform them. they WANT to have nuanced and in depth conversations about the impact of a broken system on worker's mental health. and you know what? they CANT. they can't spend even HALF as much time talking about this as they want because you guys have fixated on a minor character flaw added to make robby a realistic middle aged man, and now they need to keep repeating to you that that does NOT make him evil.
and because a lot of you guys are truly insufferable, you keep IGNORING IT. which means they have to say it AGAIN. which means they lose MORE valuable time platforming real issues to pander to your immense intellectual deficit. jesus fucking christ.
if you actually liked the show and respected its aims, you'd shut the fuck up and listen when people talk, or maybe you'd just do the bare minimum of putting your phone down when watching so you actually saw what was happening on the screen.
the cast and crew and healthcare workers deserve more respect than what you give them.
this is what i need
The Lion King 2 is the only sequel media that's allowed to make the former main character a kinda bad parent bcs that's the only time it's been done right. This sounds insane but LoK wishes it had what The Lion King 2: Simba's Pride did.
Anyway the REASON it gets a pass is because it actually grounds Simba's bad parenting in things that it would make sense for him to be worried about or reactive too based on the trauma he's gone through, and on top of that he still gets to have a character arc despite not being the main character that follows from the character arc he had in the first movie.
I don't believe Aang was a bad father in the way the show said he was because it's contrary to his entire personality. Someone who helped form the Air Acolytes would never neglect his son because he's not a bender or his daughter because she's not an air bender. Just like I don't believe Luke "There Is Still Good In Vader" Skywalker would try to kill his nephew, it's contrary to his entire personality, Luke would not see his nephew any differently than he saw Anakin, especially when he hadn't yet done anything wrong while Vader had genocided half the galaxy and murdered a bunch of children.
I believe that Simba struggled to raise his daughter because he was overprotective BECAUSE he knows how fucking easy it is for someone to die in the savanna. It happened right in front of him. He also didn't get raised to adulthood with his parents so ofc he's not the best as knowing how to talk to his daughter or explain things to her, he got raised in the wilderness by two gay weirdos. Of course he's insanely hostile to outsiders including the lionesses that decided to follow Scar, Scar killed his dad and nearly caused a collapse of the local ecosystem. And during the course of the movie he has to actually come to terms with how he's letting his trauma control him and it's drive his daughter away. He gets to apologize and admit he was wrong, he gets to grow.
And yeah you could argue we don't really get to see Aang or Luke interacting with their families because that's not when the story is set but there are still ways to make sure your characterization is consistent, and I'd argue in cases like Aang and Luke where you don't get to see them when they were raising/interacting with their young families it's even more important for you to keep the characterization consistent because we don't get to see the character grow and change we just see where they started and where they ended up, so if you change too much it's gonna feel weird.
You can do the "they grew up to be bad and/or flawed parents/guardians" thing without it feeling like character assassination and for some reason The Lion King 2: Simba's Pride does it better than most media that tries it.

kind of crazy that the sun is the closest thing we have to an unholy seething vortex of magical energy, a pulsating orb that is periodically ripped by screaming flares that lash us with incredible ferocity from a hundred million miles away, and we're like mmm what a nice day! đ
Good trope: Character yelling, "It's not what it looks like!" while doing exactly what it looks like.
Great trope: Character yelling, "It's not what it looks like!" while doing something so unfathomable that the person who interrupted them can't even begin to attempt to figure out what the hell it is they're seeing.
something I quite like about aang and zuko as parallels is how much aang watches - especially in books 1 and 2 when, despite being zuko's target, there's always a part of aang's mind that looks like he's trying to dissect zuko's true motives. of course he reacts appropriately and fights back to protect his friends, but he also just looks at him. not judgementally, not scornfully, just intently
he knows deep down that the only thing separating them is a gruesomely arbitrary war. but he cant say that because he knows his place as the avatar, and zuko knows his place as the fire nation prince, and those titles complicate everything. when aang saves him at the end of book 1 its undoubtedly to show his compassion as an air nomad, but I also believe its because he knows this isnt how it should end, and he wants zuko to understand that too

I really need to do more studying and write an essay on how Americanism is a genuine folk religion which reveres capital and the vague concept of âthe free marketâ as a god of providence to be pleased in order to lead a prosperous life, also that the founding fathers are prophetic, perhaps even messianic figures who basically gave birth to this god through the revolutionary war, and that the vast majority of conservative Christians in America revere capital more than the god they claim to serve in an ironic sort of golden calf situation.
I think youâre just stupid, bro
Apotheosis of Washington
1800â1802 John James Barralet
There is a trend amongst depictions of the founding fathers to show them as literal christ figures, a trend that started very early in the nationâs life.
Iâd also like to point out Washington & Lincoln Apotheosis, artist unknown, about 1865, the same year as lincolnâs assasination
The personification of America in the form of Columbia, a goddess of both the land and the concepts that America tends to inhabit. A pre-anime Hetalia. She was often used in depictions of Manifest Destiny, a religions ideal that stated that America, by Godâs will, must go from coast to coast.
American Progress by, John Gast, 1872. Note the indigenous people cast in literal darkness, away from the light. The religions deification of America relies upon colonialism and white supremacy
Like, there are actual studies on this stuff. Look up âAmerican civil religionâ if youâre struggling for search terms. Or âAmerican founder worship.â
also worth noting the vatican lists americanism as a specific official heresy. so even beyond the mountains of scholarship on the religion of americanism from various religious & secular perspectives, the roman catholic church itself officially recognises it as a religious heresy in the general region of idolatry that can be used in official church courts as grounds for excommunication. and itâs a religious view thatâs drilled into americans so aggressively that to them it seems perfectly natural, whereas to most of the rest of the world âamericaâ seems more like a terrifying mind control cult than a country. this has led to large swathes of american catholics being members of a different religion than that of all the worlds other catholic populations and is a big part of how they became the closest thing to a pan-catholic in-joke, a global laughing stock if you will
Bioshock Infinite wasnât ideal but making this subtext into text was probably one of the better things it did. Real interesting vibe, and they didnât have to work hard to get there.
Side note I actually hate the "your brain evolved to fend off predators and now you're anxious about things because there are no predators and your brain doesn't know how to deal with modern problems"
like..."anxiety" is more than just response to predators, animals get stressed when they are in environments that are too crowded or not enough hiding places or whatever, and social animals would deal with social rejection or fighting as a serious threat. also, anyone who has experienced abuse or assault or anything like that has had to deal with threats to their person
idk where i'm going with this but you are an animal, your needs are those of an animal. and a lot of modern people are chronically stressed because they're basically in enclosures that are inappropriate for their species and don't have access to play and enrichment and stuff...
