The Lincoln Continental Town Brougham show car was presented in 1964 to test public reaction to new features. In addition to the removal of the forward section of the roof, the wheelbase was lengthened to 131 inches, an extension of five inches, and a division between the front and rear compartments with a power glass window was installed. Though popular at auto shows, the Town Brougham’s modifications were not easily put into series production, and though it was updated for the 1965 show circuit, the Brougham roof was never offered to Lincoln’s customers.

Presented 30 years ago at the 1996 North American International Auto Show, the Lincoln Sentinel Concept blended Lincoln's classic styling themes with Ford's “New Edge” design philosophy. Designed by Tom Scott and built by Ghia in Turin, the Sentinel's clean, sharp-edged profile and chrome-outlined details were directly inspired by the iconic 1961 Lincoln Continental. 

Carrozzeria Ghia became a division of Ford in 1973, which marked the end of its coachbuilding operations as it became Ford’s Italian design centre. From the early 1980s, Ghia became part of Ford’s extensive research into the development of aerodynamic cars that would influence its future design language. The Lincoln Quicksilver emerged at the 53rd Geneva Motor Show in 1983, Ghia’s radically futuristic take on what a luxury car might become. The mid-engined configuration was inherited from the AC 3000ME, whose platform it borrowed with a 28cm extension, fitted with Ford’s 2.8-litre “Cologne” V6. Flush glazing and the aerodynamic shape provided a drag coefficient of 0.30.

In 1954, Henry Ford II commissioned the fledgling Carrozzeria Boano to create a one-off show car based on the new Lincoln Capri chassis. Gian Paolo Boano didn’t disappoint with the jet aircraft-inspired Indianapolis concept that was presented at the 1955 Turin Auto Show (b&w pic). Ford proposed a ten-year contract with the Italian designer, but instead, Gian signed an agreement to become head of Centro Stile Fiat. The build had cost $30,000 (approx $350,000 in today’s money), and after the Turin show, the Indianapolis concept was shipped to the US, where it became Henry Ford II’s personal car for a time, before it is believed Ford gave the car to his friend, Hollywood actor Errol Flynn.

The 40th Tokyo Motor Show in 2007 saw the debut of Daihatsu’s Mud–Master C concept, a compact all-terrain vehicle for outdoor enthusiasts and specifically mountain bikers. It was designed in collaboration with professional cyclist Raita Suzuki and was built on a modified version of Daihatsu's production Hijet van platform. The modular rear cargo unit could be swapped out for different attachments, turning it from a bike hauler into a work van or a small crane.
