Hello, wonderful people of Earth! Many of you have been reaching out and asking if I'm still alive, and Iâm excited to say that yes, HAHAHAHAHHA I am still here, alive and breathing! I know this isnât the update most of you were hoping for, but fyi, I am a graduating student, and my graduation ceremony is just around the cornerânext week to be exact! Iâve been super busy finalizing all my graduation requirements and preparing for my future job hunt, as I plan to start applying immediately after I graduate.
I know in my last post I said I'd be back after a short break, but that didn't happenâsorry about that! To be honest, Iâm unsure when Iâll be able to resume regular posting, or if I ever will. However, rest assured that if I do step away from posting, I will not delete my account, so youâll still have access to all of my previous work! hihi.
Also, Iâm planning to post all my drafts for each of the 13 members before I make the full transition into my adulting life (such a sad reality đŕžŕ˝˛đŕžŕ˝˛ ). And just so you know, I don't have a bias because, letâs face it, how on earth am I supposed to pick just one member? Itâs like trying to choose a favorite flavor of ice cream when theyâre all so deliciously unique! Each member brings their own humor and talent that just makes my heart do little backflips. And letâs not forgetâeveryone looks absolutely stunning! I mean, Iâm just a girl here, completely overwhelmed by all this eye candy, HAHAHAHA! I feel itâs my duty to make sure every single member is on my masterlistânobody deserves to be left out! Even if no one is actually asking for this HAHAHHAAHH!
So, while this may be a temporary goodbye for now, please hang tight and look forward to my upcoming posts where Iâll release all my drafts, MUAH! đŕžŕ˝˛

Five years after leaving Seoul to protect Seokmin from a scandal, Y/N unexpectedly reunites with him at a wine festival in Rome, stirring old wounds and unspoken love.
Pairing: DK x Y/N
Genre: Slice of life, Angst, Drama
WC: 5.4k
Y/N had carved out a life for herself in Rome, a far cry from the bustling streets of Seoul where she was born. Five years ago, she landed in the Eternal City for a job opportunity, trading the familiar hum of Korea for the sun-drenched cobblestones of Italy. The first year was a whirlwind of challengesâlanguage barriers, a new timezone, unfamiliar weather, and the aching loneliness of not knowing a soul. But time, as it does, softened the edges. She learned to savor the bitter tang of espresso, mastered enough Italian to banter with locals, and even grew fond of the humid Roman summers. Most importantly, she found a small circle of friends who became her anchor.
Today was her day off, and her phone had buzzed early with a call from her friend Giulia. âY/N, youâre coming to the wine festival in Greve, right? Itâs tradition!â Giuliaâs voice was bright, almost demanding, through the speaker.
Y/N laughed, pulling a light jacket from her closet. âDo I have a choice? You lot would drag me there if I said no.â
âExactly!â chimed in Matteo, another friend, whoâd grabbed Giuliaâs phone. âWeâre meeting at the usual spot. Donât be late, or weâre starting without you.â
The Greve wine festival was an annual ritual for their groupâtwo women, Giulia and Sofia, and two men, Matteo and Luca. They were locals whoâd taken Y/N under their wing, helping her navigate the chaos of her new life. Over time, theyâd become her family away from home. Y/N wasnât a wine enthusiast when she arrived in Rome, but five years of festivals and late-night tastings had changed that. She could now appreciate a good Chianti, even if sheâd never admit it to Matteo, whoâd tease her endlessly about her ârefinedâ palate.
Y/N drove to their meeting spot, a quaint plaza just outside Greve. The air was warm, carrying the scent of blooming lavender and fresh bread from nearby bakeries. As she parked, she spotted her friends lounging near a fountain, their laughter echoing.
âThere she is!â Sofia called, waving dramatically. âThought youâd bailed on us, Korea.â
Y/N rolled her eyes at the nickname. âAnd miss Matteo trying to pronounce âSangioveseâ wrong again? Never.â
Matteo clutched his chest in mock offense. âMy pronunciation is flawless, thank you very much.â
âFlawlessly terrible,â Luca added, earning a playful shove from Matteo.
The group fell into their usual rhythm, strolling through Greveâs charming streets. They stopped for pizza at a hole-in-the-wall trattoria, the kind only locals knew about, and then grabbed gelatoâpistachio for Y/N, always. Luca, ever the photographer, insisted on snapping pictures, teasing Y/N about her âmodel posesâ while she stuck out her tongue for the camera.
Y/N and Luca had a close bond, the kind that sparked whispers among their friends. People often teased them about being âmore than friends,â and Y/N knew Luca harbored feelings for her. But her heart, stubborn as ever, wasnât in it. She cared for him deeply, but romance? That was a door sheâd locked long ago. So, they stayed friends, and Luca never pushed.
As the festivalâs opening hour approached, the group joined the lively crowd at the entrance. They were near the front of the line, buzzing with excitement. Each grabbed a wine glass, the clinking of crystal signaling the start of their adventure. The festival was a maze of booths, each offering a different vintage, and soon the group scattered, chasing their favorite flavors.
Y/N wandered alone for a bit, her glass catching the golden afternoon light. She sipped a bold red, savoring the way it warmed her chest. As she moved through the crowd, she noticed a cluster of large cameras and a small crew. The sight piqued her curiosity, but what caught her off guard was the language she overheardâKorean. Her heart gave a small, unexpected lurch. It had been years since sheâd heard her native tongue in person, and the sound felt like a tether to a life sheâd left behind. She smiled to herself, feeling a quiet joy at seeing fellow Koreans so far from home. Maybe they were filming a travel show, she thought, her mind drifting to memories of Seoul.
Lost in thought, she didnât notice the tall figure in a white shirt until they collided. Her wine glass slipped from her hand, shattering on the cobblestone with a sharp crash. âOh no, Iâm so sorry!â she gasped, crouching to gather the shards before anyone could step on them.
The stranger knelt beside her, his voice soft but flustered in broken English. âNo, no, my fault. Sorry, so sorry. Let me help.â
That voice. It hit her like a wave, familiar in a way that made her breath catch. She froze, her fingers hovering over a piece of glass. Slowly, she looked up, and the world tilted. Their eyes locked, and time seemed to unravel.
It was him. Lee Seokmin. DK. Her best friend from high school. Her first love. The man sheâd dated when he debuted with Seventeen, only to break his heart two years later without ever telling him why. The reason sheâd fled to Rome, carrying a secret sheâd buried deep.
His eyes widened, mirroring her shock. âY/N?â he whispered, his voice barely audible over the festivalâs hum.
âSeokminâŚâ Her voice trembled, barely a breath.
The world around them blurred. The chatter of the crowd, the clink of glasses, the distant calls of his Seventeenmembers shouting âDK, where are you?ââit all faded. For a moment, it was just them, crouched on the ground, surrounded by broken glass and unspoken history.
Back in high school, Lee Seokmin was already a star in the making, a trainee under Pledis Entertainment with dreams as big as his heart. Y/N, on the other hand, was just a regular student, her biggest worry being the pile of assignments due every Friday. The two were an unlikely pair, yet inseparable, their lives intertwined by chance and proximity.
It was a Friday afternoon, the school day done, and they walked side by side down the familiar Seoul streets toward their apartment building. Y/Nâs backpack swung lightly as she rambled on, her voice bright with excitement. âSeokmin, I canât wait for you to debut! Youâre gonna be so famous, and you know what that means, right? Free food for me forever!â
Seokmin threw his head back, his laugh warm and infectious. âYah, is that all Iâm good for? Feeding you tteokbokki and ice cream?â
âExactly!â she teased, nudging his shoulder. âYou better keep your promise, Lee Seokmin. When youâre a big star, I expect you to buy me whatever I want.â
He grinned, his eyes crinkling in that way that made her heart skip. âDeal. Iâll buy you the whole world if I make it big. Just wait.â
Their closeness wasnât just chance. They lived in the same apartment buildingâSeokmin in Seventeenâs dorm with his fellow trainees, Y/N with her family a few floors up. Their friendship sparked years ago when Seokmin, on his way home from practice, spotted Y/N outside their building, kneeling on the pavement, feeding a scruffy street dog with scraps from her lunch. Heâd stopped, charmed by her kindness, and offered her a spare water bottle to wash her hands. From that moment, they were glued to each otherâs sides. Same building, same class, same wavelength.
Seokmin was a golden retriever in human formâbright, warm, and impossibly kind. To Y/N, he was the gentlest soul sheâd ever met, always ready with a smile or a silly joke to lift her spirits. Heâd listen patiently to her complaints about school, sneak her snacks during late-night study sessions, and cheer the loudest at her small victories. To him, Y/N was his safe harbor, the one person who saw him as Seokmin, not just a trainee chasing a dream.
As they grew, so did their feelings. It wasnât a sudden spark but a slow, steady deepening, like roots burrowing into the earth. They both knew it, felt it in the quiet momentsâstolen glances during class, the way their hands brushed when they walked. When Seventeendebuted, and Seokmin became DK, their puppy love bloomed into something real. Y/N was there for it all, from his trainee days as Lee Seokmin to his first stage as Dokyeom. She cheered at his debut showcase, her voice hoarse from screaming, and heâd looked for her in the crowd, his smile brighter than the stage lights.
To Seokmin, Y/N wasnât just his girlfriend; she was his future. Even as teenagers, he was certain. Heâd lie awake in the dorm, exhausted from practice, dreaming of a life with herâlazy mornings, shared laughter, maybe a dog like the one sheâd fed all those years ago. âIâm gonna marry you one day, Y/N,â heâd whispered once, half-asleep on her couch during a movie night. Sheâd laughed, thinking he was joking, but the look in his eyes said otherwise.
Years passed, and Seventeensoared. Their schedules grew hectic, their fame global, but Seokmin stayed true to his word. He spoiled Y/N relentlesslyânot because she asked, but because he wanted to. A new scarf when she mentioned liking one in a shop window. Concert tickets to her favorite band. Late-night deliveries of her favorite desserts when she was stressed over college exams. âYou donât have to do this, you know,â sheâd say, holding up a box of pastries heâd sent.
âI know,â heâd reply, grinning over a video call from some far-off city. âBut I want to. Youâre my person, Y/N.â
They were each otherâs anchor. When Seventeen faced pressure, Y/N was his voice of reason, reminding him to breathe. When college overwhelmed her, Seokmin was her cheerleader, sending voice messages full of encouragement. âYouâve got this, Y/N. Youâre unstoppable,â heâd say, and somehow, sheâd believe him.
But then came that night. Seventeen was in the middle of a world tour, cities blurring into one another. Seokmin was in a hotel room halfway across the globe when his phone lit up with Y/Nâs name. His face brightened instantly. âHey, you! Missed me already?â he answered, expecting her usual stories about college or a funny anecdote from her day.
But her voice was differentâflat, distant. âSeokmin, letâs break up.â
The words hit like a punch. âWhat? Y/N, what are you talking about? Are you okay?â
âI just⌠I canât do this anymore. Iâm sorry.â And then, silence. The call ended. He tried calling back, but it went straight to voicemail. Her number was blocked. Her social media accounts, gone. It was like sheâd erased herself from his life in an instant.
Seokmin spiraled. He called her family, desperate for answers, but her parents were vague. âSheâs busy with college,â her mother said softly. âOr work. Sheâs just⌠busy.â He went to their apartment when the tour ended, heart in his throat, but Y/N was never there. One night, he waited outside for hours, hoping to catch her, only for her father to step out, his expression kind but firm. âSeokmin, we love you. But Y/N has her reasons. She wonât tell us, and you need to stop waiting.â
Reasons. That word haunted him. What reasons? Why wouldnât she tell him? Why had she vanished without a trace, leaving him with nothing but questions and a shattered heart?
The world stood still as Y/N and Seokmin stared at each other, the shattered wine glass forgotten at their feet. The festivalâs noiseâlaughter, clinking glasses, the hum of conversationâfaded into a dull roar. It was as if the universe had carved out this moment just for them, a fragile bubble in the chaos of Greve. Their eyes held a thousand unspoken words, a history that neither time nor distance could erase.
âDK! We gotta go, man!â Na PDâs voice cut through, sharp and urgent, pulling Seokmin back to reality. At the same time, Lucaâs voice reached Y/N, softer but insistent. âY/N, you okay? What happened?â
A festival staff member approached, kneeling to clean the broken glass. âIâve got this, donât worry,â they said in accented English, waving them off.
Y/N and Seokmin stood slowly, their gazes still locked, reluctant to break the spell. Joshua, standing nearby, caught sight of Y/N and froze, recognition flickering in his eyes. He knew her instantlyâthe girl whoâd been Seokminâs world, the one whose absence had left him hollow for months. But the cameras, the crowd, the risk of a sceneâit was too much. Joshua stepped forward, his voice steady in fluent English. âSorry about the glass. Hope youâre okay. Goodbye.â He grabbed Seokminâs arm, pulling him gently but firmly away.
Y/N watched as Seokmin was led through the crowd, his broad shoulders and familiar silhouette shrinking with every step. Her chest tightened, an old ache resurfacing, sharper now. Luca stepped in front of her, concern creasing his brow. âY/N, seriously, are you alright? You look like youâve seen a ghost.â
She blinked, the world snapping back into focus. Seokmin was gone, swallowed by the festivalâs chaos. She forced a smile, her voice unsteady. âIâm fine, Luca. Just⌠bumped into someone. No big deal.â
Luca frowned but didnât push. âOkay, but weâre heading out. Itâs getting dark, and Giuliaâs starving. You know how she gets.â
Y/N nodded, letting him guide her toward their friends. But her mind was elsewhere, replaying the moment their eyes met. Seokmin had changedâhis face sharper, his frame stronger, matured by time and fame. Yet those eyes, so lively and warm, were the same ones that used to crinkle when he laughed at her terrible jokes. He was different, yet achingly familiar, a living echo of the life sheâd left behind.
For five years, Y/N had avoided Seventeen. No music, no news, no social media. Sheâd built walls around her heart, convinced herself sheâd moved on. Sheâd endured the weight of her secrets, the pain of her choices, alone in a foreign city. But seeing him, so close yet so unreachable, shattered the illusion. The heartbreak sheâd buried clawed its way back, raw and unrelenting.
Meanwhile, Seokmin was silent as Joshua pulled him through the festival, the other Seventeen members trailing behind with Na PD. The producer, ever observant, noticed the shift in Seokminâs demeanor. âDK, whatâs up? You okay?â Na PD asked, his tone light but curious.
Seokmin didnât respond, his gaze fixed on the ground. Joshua, quick to deflect, laughed. âHeâs fine, just embarrassed. Bumped into a girl and forgot how to talk. Classic DK.â
The members chuckled, and Na PD grinned, letting it slide. âWho gets drunk off wine tastings?â he teased, clapping Seokminâs shoulder. But Seokmin didnât laugh. His silence was heavy, a stark contrast to his usual brightness. The members exchanged glancesâsomething was off.
Joshua knew the truth. Heâd seen Y/N, seen the way Seokminâs face had lit up and then crumbled. He knew the devastation Y/Nâs sudden departure had caused years ago. Seokmin had never fully recovered, carrying a quiet hope that their paths would cross again. The members had watched him struggle, piecing himself back together while clinging to unanswered questions. Joshua stayed close, shielding him from further probing.
That night, at the restaurant, Seokmin was a ghost of himself, pushing food around his plate. Na PD raised an eyebrow. âDK, youâre scaring me. Whereâs the guy who was singing karaoke an hour ago?â
Joshua jumped in again, laughing. âTold you, heâs drunk on wine. Lightweight.â
âDrunk on wine?â Na PD scoffed, grinning. âWhat is this, a rom-com?â
The table laughed, but Seokminâs smile was forced, his eyes distant. The members sensed the shift, their curiosity growing, but Joshuaâs subtle glances kept them quiet. He knew this wasnât the time or place.
On the bus back to their transient house, Joshua slid into the seat next to Seokmin, tapping his knee gently. âHey. You okay?â he asked, his voice low, meant for Seokmin alone.
Seokmin nodded, staring out the window. âYeah. Iâm fine.â
Joshua didnât buy it. He knew those eyes, the way they hid a storm. But he didnât push, just rested a hand on Seokminâs shoulder, a silent promise of support.
Later, in the quiet of the transient house, with the cameras off and Na PD gone, the members gathered in the living room. The air was heavy, the unspoken tension finally breaking. Joshua spoke first, his voice steady. âIt was Y/N. We saw her at the festival.â
The room stilled. Every member knew her name, knew the weight it carried. Theyâd seen Seokmin unravel when she left, watched him search for answers that never came. Now, here she was, in Italy of all places.
Hoshi broke the silence, his tone light but cautious. âY/Nâs in Italy? What, was she hiding from you in Rome this whole time?â He laughed, trying to ease the mood, but Jeonghan nudged him, whispering, âDonât be insensitive.â
Hoshi shrugged, sheepish. âJust trying to lighten things up.â
Jeonghan sat beside Seokmin, his voice gentle. âSo, whatâs the plan, DK? Youâve been waiting for this, right? A chance to talk to her?â
Seokmin shook his head, his eyes fixed on the floor. âI donât know, hyung. I donât know what to do. Or what to feel.â His voice cracked, raw with confusion. âWeâve got an early schedule tomorrow. Letâs just⌠rest.â
The members hesitated but respected his words, filing off to their rooms. Seokmin lay in his bed, staring at the ceiling, the darkness pressing in. His mind replayed her face, her voice, the way sheâd looked at himâlike she was seeing a ghost, too. Five years of questions swirled in his chest, but one burned brighter than the rest: Why did you leave me?
He exhaled, turning to the wall. âIâm okay,â he murmured to no one, or maybe to himself. âLetâs just sleep.â
But sleep didnât come. All he could think about was her, and the truth heâd been chasing for years, now closer than ever yet still out of reach.
The moment in Greve lingered like a ghost for both Y/N and Seokmin, a fleeting collision that lasted mere seconds but unraveled years of carefully buried emotions. It was their last interaction, a brief spark in the chaos of the wine festival, and neither knew if their paths would ever cross again. For five years, theyâd built walls around their hearts, but that single glance had cracked them open, exposing the raw, unresolved ache theyâd both tried to outrun.
For Seokmin, the encounter was a cruel tease of hope. Back in the transient house, he lay awake night after night, replaying her face, her voice, the way her eyes had widened with recognition. Was she living in Rome? Just visiting? He had no way of knowing, and the uncertainty gnawed at him. The odds of seeing her again in a city of millions felt impossibly slim, yet he couldnât let go of the fragile thread of hope. âMaybe itâs a sign,â he whispered to himself one night, staring at the ceiling. âMaybe weâre not done.â But even as he said it, doubt crept in. What if that was it? A final, fleeting glimpse of the girl whoâd once been his everything?
Y/N, meanwhile, fought a different battle. Sheâd spent five years avoiding Seventeen, steering clear of their music, their faces, their world. But seeing Seokmin up close shattered her resolve. Back in her Rome apartment, she found herself typing his name into her phone, hesitating before hitting search. When she finally gave in, the flood of results overwhelmed herâSeventeenâs global success, sold-out stadiums, awards piling up. Her heart swelled with pride, but it came with a sharp pang. âTheyâll never know how proud I am,â she murmured, scrolling through photos of their NANA Tour, their laughter lighting up Romeâs streets. She remembered the grueling days of their trainee yearsâSeokmin stumbling home from practice, exhausted but smiling, trading normal teenage adventures for endless hours in a practice room. Sheâd been there through it all, from their debut struggles to the sleepless nights of their early tours. Knowing they were in Rome for NANA Tour, enjoying the city she now called home, brought a bittersweet comfort. But it also hurt, a reminder of the life sheâd walked away from.
Life in Rome marched on. Y/N threw herself back into work, her days filled with meetings and deadlines. But the encounter with Seokmin lingered, a quiet undercurrent to her routine. Then, a rare gift arrived: her boss granted her a month-long vacation. She called her parents that night, their voices crackling with excitement over the phone. âY/N, come home,â her mother urged. âItâs been five years. We miss you. Spend your vacation in Korea.â
Y/N hesitated, her mind flashing to Seokminâs face in Greve. Could she handle being back in Seoul, where memories of him waited around every corner? But the longing for home was stronger. âOkay, Mom,â she said softly. âIâll come.â
Now, here she was, standing outside Incheon Airport, breathing in the crisp Korean air for the first time in half a decade. The familiar chaos of the city buzzed around herâtaxis honking, travelers rushing past, the faint scent of street food in the distance. She adjusted her scarf, waiting for her parentsâ car, when her eyes caught a massive billboard across the street. It was an advertisement, bold and colorful, and there, plastered across it, was Seokminâs smiling face. His grin was as bright as ever, those lively eyes staring out at the world. Y/Nâs breath hitched, a bitter smile tugging at her lips. âOf course,â she whispered to herself, her voice tinged with both fondness and pain. âYouâre everywhere.â
She stood frozen, staring at the poster, memories flooding backâlate-night walks, his promises to buy her the world, the way heâd looked at her like she was his future. Five years ago, sheâd walked away, carrying a secret she couldnât share. Now, standing on her home soil, with his face beaming down at her, she wondered if fate was playing a cruel trickâor offering her a chance to finally face the truth.
A week had passed since Y/N landed in Seoul, her hometown now feeling like a distant memory she was rediscovering. She spent her days with her parents, playing tourist in the city she once knew by heart. They ate steaming bowls of tteokbokki at bustling street stalls, wandered through Gyeongbokgung Palace like wide-eyed visitors, and laughed over old family stories at cozy restaurants. But Seoul, vibrant and alive, was overwhelming. The biting winter air, the spicy tang of kimchi, the rhythm of the cityâit was all so familiar, yet it stirred a deep ache in Y/Nâs chest. Everywhere she turned, Seventeen was there. Their songs spilled from coffee shop speakers, their faces beamed from mall billboards, their names lit up restaurant TVs. Each encounter was a jolt of nostalgia, tangled with a guilt that gnawed at her. For five years, sheâd carried a secret, one that had driven her to hurt the one person whoâd deserved nothing but her love. âIâm such an idiot,â she muttered to herself one night, staring at her reflection in her childhood bedroom mirror. âWhy did I think I could just erase him?â
Tonight, unable to sleep, Y/N slipped out of her parentsâ house and found herself walking toward the Han River. It was a place etched into her soul, where she and Seokmin used to stroll, sometimes with his members in tow, laughing and chasing each other like kids with no cares in the world. She smiled at the memory of Hoshi tripping over a rock, Seungkwanâs dramatic reenactments of their latest practice mishaps, Seokminâs arm slung casually around her shoulders. Her laughter faded as she reached the riverbank, the water glinting under the moonlight. Then she froze. A familiar figure stood a short distance away, gazing out at the river, his silhouette unmistakable even in the dim light. It was him. Lee Seokmin. DK.
Her heart stuttered. She could turn back, pretend she hadnât seen him, and let the moment slip away like she had in Greve. Or she could stay, face him, and finally confront the truth sheâd buried. âIs this you, universe?â she whispered, her breath visible in the cold air. âGiving me a chance, or just messing with me?â
She hesitated, then glanced at him againâand her breath caught. He was looking at her now, his eyes wide with the same shock sheâd felt in Italy. For a moment, they just stared, the riverâs quiet ripple the only sound between them. Then Y/N smiled, a small, tentative thing, and walked toward him. She stopped a few feet away, her hands gripping the railing as she gazed at the water, gathering her courage. Taking a deep breath, she turned to him, her smile steadier now.
âItâs been a while, huh?â she said, her voice soft but clear. âHow are you? You guys are huge now, arenât you? Iâve been here a week, and your faces and songs are literally everywhere.â She laughed, light but nervous, her eyes flickering to the river to avoid his gaze.
Seokminâs expression softened, a faint smile tugging at his lips. âYeah, weâre doing great. Working on a new song, actually. Itâs⌠been a ride.â His voice was warm, but there was a cautious edge to it. âWhat about you? Howâs life been?â
Y/Nâs smile widened, a playful glint in her eyes. âOh, Iâm a full-on Italiano now. Just a tourist in Korea.â She laughed, then softened, her tone turning wistful. âIâve been living in Rome for a while. Five years, actually. This is my first time back, and itâs⌠so nostalgic. Everything feels the same, but different, you know?â
Seokmin nodded, his gaze lingering on her face, searching for something she wasnât sure she could give. They fell silent, standing side by side, the Han River stretching out before them, its surface reflecting the cityâs lights. The quiet was heavy, filled with years of unspoken questions. Then, out of the stillness, Seokminâs voice came, low and raw. âWhy?â
Y/Nâs heart clenched. She knew exactly what he meant. She turned to him, meeting his eyes for a brief, aching moment before smiling faintly. âI didnât break up with you because I fell out of love.â
The words hung in the air, a fragile confession that left them both suspended, the truth teetering on the edge of revelation.
Five years ago, Y/Nâs world had crumbled in a single moment. Sheâd just gotten home from college, exhausted from a long day of classes and drowning in stress over a pile of paperwork for a presentation due tomorrow. She slipped into comfy sweats, tied her hair up, and sank into her chair, reaching for her phone to call Seokmin. His voice always had a way of grounding her, no matter how chaotic her day had been. But just as her thumb hovered over the call button, her phone buzzed with a message from an unknown number.
Her heart stopped as she opened it. Videos and photos of her and Seokminâintimate, private moments, stolen snapshots of their loveâfilled the screen. Below them, a chilling message: Break up with DK, or I release these and ruin his image. Her blood ran cold, her hands trembling. Seventeen was still rising, their name just beginning to shine. Sheâd seen the grueling years Seokmin poured into his dreamâthe endless practices, the sleepless nights, the sacrifices. How could she let a scandal destroy that? How could she be the reason his world fell apart?
She was only a teenager, scared and unprepared. Acting out of fear, she made a choice. âSeokmin, letâs break up,â sheâd said over the phone that night, her voice flat to hide the way her heart was shattering. When he pressed her, franticââY/N, whatâs wrong? Talk to me!ââshe hung up, blocked his number, and cut him out completely. She knew heâd fight for her, knew heâd show up at her parentsâ house, so she avoided him, hiding behind excuses of school and work. After graduation, when a job offer in Rome came, she seized it, fleeing to a new life where she could bury her guilt and try to mend her broken heart.
Present
Y/N stood by the Han River, the moonlight casting a silver glow over the water. Seokminâs questionââWhy?ââstill hung between them, raw and heavy. She took a shaky breath, her eyes meeting his, and began to unravel the truth sheâd carried for five years.
âThat night I broke up with you,â she started, her voice trembling, âIâd just gotten home from school. I was stressed, exhausted, and all I wanted was to hear your voice. But before I could call you, I got a text. From someone I didnât know.â She paused, her fingers tightening on the railing. âIt was pictures of us. Videos. Private moments I thought were just ours. And a message saying if I didnât break up with you, theyâd leak everything and ruin your image.â
Seokminâs eyes widened, his breath catching. âWhat? Y/N, why didnât you tell me?â
âI was scared, Seokmin,â she said, her voice breaking. âI was just a kid. Seventeen was just starting to make it, and I saw how hard you workedâhow hard all of you worked. The sleepless nights, the practices, the sacrifices⌠I couldnât let some stupid scandal destroy that. I couldnât be the reason you lost everything.â
He shook his head, stepping closer, his voice thick with emotion. âY/N, I wouldâve fought it. We couldâve figured it out together. You didnât have to carry that alone.â
âI know,â she whispered, tears spilling down her cheeks. âBut I wasnât brave enough. I thought⌠if I told you, youâd try to fix it, and itâd make things worse. So I left. I blocked you, avoided you, and when I got a job offer in Rome, I took it. I thought I could move on, fix myself. But I never stopped feeling guilty for hurting you.â
Seokminâs eyes glistened, his jaw tight as he processed her words. âAll this time⌠I thought you just stopped loving me. I kept asking myself what I did wrong, why I wasnât enough.â
âNo, Seokmin,â she said fiercely, turning to face him fully. âIt was never about you not being enough. You were everything to me. I loved you so much it hurt. I just⌠I couldnât be selfish. I couldnât risk your dream for my love.â
He let out a shaky breath, running a hand through his hair. âY/N, my dream meant nothing if you werenât there. You were my anchor. Losing you⌠it broke me.â
Her tears fell faster now, her smile bittersweet through the pain. âI guess I just wasnât brave enough back then. But I loved you, Seokmin. I still do. And Iâm so proud of what youâve achieved. Seeing you everywhere here, hearing your songs⌠itâs like youâre part of the cityâs heartbeat. But I donât know if love is enough right now.â
Seokmin stepped closer, his hand brushing hers on the railing, tentative but warm. âY/N, I never stopped loving you either. Not for a second. Every city, every stage, I looked for you in the crowd. Even in Rome, when I saw you⌠I thought maybe the universe was giving me a second chance.â
She laughed softly, wiping her tears. âThe universe is funny like that, isnât it? Throwing us together in Rome, now here. But I hurt you, Seokmin. I donât know if I deserve that chance.â
âYou were protecting me,â he said, his voice steady despite the tears in his eyes. âYou made a choice out of love, even if it hurt us both. Thatâs not something to punish yourself for. Itâs something we can learn from.â
Y/N looked at him, her heart aching with the weight of his words. âIf we ever meet again⌠and weâre still looking at each other the same wayâŚâ She paused, smiling through her tears. âThen Iâll know. That even after everything, it was always you.â
Seokminâs hand closed gently over hers, his touch grounding her like it always had. âThen Iâll keep looking your way, until the universe brings you back.â
They stood there, hands entwined, the Han River flowing quietly before them. The city hummed around them, but for that moment, it was just themâtwo hearts that had weathered years of pain, finding solace in the truth. Whether the universe would weave their paths together again, they didnât know. But under the Seoul sky, with the river as their witness, they held onto the fragile hope that love, in time, might be enough.

For a decade, Seventeenâs Y/N has been the bubbly maknae, but her 10th anniversary solo track âUnseenâ reveals a deeper, raw side, yearning to break free from her playful persona.
Pairing: Seventeen x 14th member
Genre: Angst, fluff
WC: 3.2k
Ten years had flown by for Seventeen, a whirlwind of stages, tours, and memories etched into their 10th anniversary album preparations. The group buzzed with excitement, each member pouring their heart into a full album featuring solo tracksâa milestone to celebrate their journey. Y/N, now 25, had grown into a more mature version of herselfâor so she insisted, despite still pranking her members and dragging Dino into her chaos. Her trinket obsession remained, her bag jangling like a wind chime, and her bunny slippers still squeaked through the studio. Yet, beneath her playful exterior, a quiet shift was brewing.
The dorm days were long goneâreplaced by sleek apartments, each member carving out their own space. Y/Nâs place was a shrine to her past: pink decor, trinket-covered bags, and a fridge stocked with gummies. But the media and fans still saw her as the âpast Y/Nââthe mischievous maknae, forever childish, forever energetic. She loved her role as Caratsâ mood-lifter, but with the 10th anniversary looming, she craved something newâa chance to show a side of herself the world hadnât seen.
Today, Y/N sat in a meeting with Woozi and the producers, discussing her solo track for the album. The room hummed with ideasâplayful melodies, upbeat tempos, lyrics dripping with her signature quirky charm. âWeâre thinking a fun, colorful vibe,â one producer said, flipping through notes. âSomething that screams Y/Nâenergetic, maybe a dance track with cute hooks.â
Y/N nodded, her smile polite but strained, fingers twisting a glittery keychain under the table. Woozi, across from her, caught the flicker in her eyesâa hesitation she didnât voice. He tilted his head, studying her, but didnât push. âSounds good,â she said softly, though her heart wasnât in it. For ten years, sheâd delivered bubbly anthems, and while she adored them, they felt like a costume sheâd outgrown.
After the meeting, Woozi caught her in the hallway, slinging his bag over his shoulder. âHey, Y/N-ie, you hungry? Wanna hit that new cafĂŠ outside? My treat.â
Her face lit up, trinkets jangling as she bounced on her toes. âOoh, yes! I heard they have glittery lattesâletâs go!â
They strolled to the cafĂŠ, a cozy spot with pastel walls and fairy lights. Y/N ordered a sparkly matcha latte, Woozi a plain black coffee, and they settled at a corner table. She was quieter than usual, scrolling her phone, her usual chatter replaced by a pensive frown. Woozi sipped his coffee, watching her over the rim. âYou okay, kid? Youâre weirdly silentânot planning to sticker my studio, are you?â
Y/N puffed her cheeks, setting her phone down with a dramatic sigh. âIâm fine, oppa⌠mostly.â She poked at her latte foam, then blurted, âItâs the solo track. I love their ideasâreally, I do! But⌠itâs the same. Playful, energetic, âcute Y/N.â Iâve been doing that for ten years, and Iâm tired of it. People still see me as the kid I was at 15, and Iâm 25 nowâan adult! I want something new.â
Woozi chuckled, leaning back. âAn adult? You? The girl with a glittery bunny backpack?â
âRude!â she huffed, rolling her eyes, but a smile tugged at her lips. âIâm serious, oppa. Donât get me wrongâI love cheering up Carats, making them smile. But Iâm not just that. I want to rebrand, show a different side. Something⌠real.â
He sobered, nodding slowly. âI hear you. You want to grow up in their eyesâshow youâre more than the chaos gremlin. Iâll talk to the producers, see what we can do for your solo. Maybe something deeper, raw.â
Her eyes sparkled, relief washing over her. âReally? Youâd do that? Oppa, youâre the best!â She rummaged in her trinket-laden bag, pulling out a glittery pink notebook that screamed âY/N.â âHold onâIâve got ideas!â
Woozi raised an eyebrow, smirking. âWhatâs that? Your secret diary? Is this your âmatureâ side?â
âShut up!â she pouted, flipping it open with a flourish. âItâs my lyric bookâbeen writing for years. You guys never asked, so I kept it secret.â
His jaw dropped as she revealed pages of handwritten lyricsâsome scrawled in glitter pen, others in smudged ink. âYou write lyrics? Since when? Why didnât you say anything?â
âBecause you all wanted me to do cheerful stuff!â she said, half-laughing, half-sad. âLook at this oneâitâs different.â She slid the notebook over, pointing to a page titled âShadows of Me.â The lyrics were raw, heavyâverses about feeling trapped by her past self, the weight of being seen as âjustâ the bubbly maknae, the quiet struggles no one noticed. Lines spoke of rough paths, self-doubt, and yearning to be understood as a whole person, not a caricature.
Woozi read in stunned silence, his coffee forgotten. The words were beautiful, poignant, cutting deeper than heâd expected. âY/N⌠this is good. Really good.â His voice softened, eyes tracing her handwriting. âYouâve been feeling this way all along? For ten years, and we didnât know?â
She shrugged, a bittersweet smile playing on her lips. âIâm good at hiding it. I love being the happy one, but⌠sometimes Iâm not. I just want people to see meâthe real me.â
He leaned forward, shock giving way to awe. Her lyrics peeled back a layer heâd never glimpsed, revealing a Y/N whoâd grown quietly, carrying burdens behind her glittery facade. For ten years, theyâd missed thisâher depth, her heart, her unspoken truths.
The cafĂŠ conversation lingered in Wooziâs mind, Y/Nâs glittery notebook a quiet revelation. As they parted ways that day, sheâd pressed it into his hands, her eyes earnest but nervous. âOppa, read it all,â she said, trinkets jangling as she adjusted her bag. âMaybe youâll find something for my solo track. I trust you.â
Woozi nodded, tucking the notebook under his arm. âIâll look through it, Y/N-ie. No promises, but⌠Iâm curious.â Her shy smile stuck with him, a glimpse of a Y/N he hadnât fully seen beforeânot the chaos gremlin, but a woman wrestling with her own identity.
In his studio that night, Woozi flipped through the notebook under the glow of his desk lamp, its pages a mosaic of glitter ink and raw emotion. Lyrics spilled across themâsome hopeful, some aching, all deeply personal. Songs about feeling caged by her âbubblyâ image, about nights spent doubting herself, about wanting to be seen as more than a smile. One line hit hard: âIâm more than the laughter, more than the sparkâIâm a shadow thatâs learning to shine in the dark.â âDamn, Y/N,â he muttered, awestruck. âHowâd you hide this?â
He called Bumzu the next day, notebook in hand. âYou gotta see thisâY/Nâs been writing lyrics. Theyâre⌠something else.â In the studio, Bumzu skimmed the pages, his jaw dropping. âShe wrote this? Our Y/N? The trinket tornado?â He laughed, shaking his head. âThis is a secret talentâsheâs got a poetâs soul. Weâve been sleeping on her all this time!â
âRight?â Woozi said, tapping a page. âHer solo needs to be one of theseâsomething real, not another candy-coated bop. Sheâs ready to show a new side.â
They zeroed in on a track Y/N had titled âUnseenââa soft, haunting melody sheâd scribbled chords for, its lyrics weaving her feelings of being trapped by expectations and yearning to reveal her true self. âThis one,â Woozi said, circling it. âItâs her heart on paper. Letâs make it hers.â
Y/N joined them in the studio the next week, her usual bounce subdued as she clutched a glittery pen, nervous but eager. âYou really liked it?â she asked, eyeing the notebook on Wooziâs desk. âItâs not⌠too different?â
âItâs perfect,â Bumzu said, grinning. âYouâve got a gift, Y/N-ie. This songâs gonna hit hardâtrust us.â
âYeah, kid,â Woozi added, tweaking the soundboard. âItâs youâraw, real. Letâs record it.â
The process was intense but intimate. Y/N poured her soul into the booth, her voice soft yet steady, carrying the weight of âUnseen.â The melody was gentle, a piano-driven ballad with strings that swelled like a heartbeat, a far cry from her usual upbeat anthems. Lines like âIâm not just the light you see, thereâs a storm inside of meâ flowed with quiet power, each note a step toward shedding her old skin. Woozi and Bumzu exchanged glances, floored by her depth, her trinkets glinting under the studio lights like a reminder of the Y/N they knewâand the one they were meeting now.
After the final take, Y/N stepped out, breathless, âWas that okay? I didnât mess it up, did I?â
âMess it up?â Woozi laughed, pulling off his headphones. âYou killed it. This is your best work yetâCarats wonât know what hit âem.â
Bumzu nodded, clapping. âItâs beautiful, Y/N. You should be proud.â
She smiled, small but genuine, clutching her notebook like a lifeline. âThanks, oppa. It feels⌠right. Like Iâm finally saying what Iâve wanted to.â
After Bumzu left, Woozi lingered, motioning Y/N to sit on the studio couch. She plopped down, her bag jangling, and he leaned forward, his usual teasing edge replaced by sincerity. âListen, Y/N-ie. I read every word in that notebook, and⌠Iâm sorry we didnât see this side of you sooner. You donât have to pretend to be the âhappy maknaeâ if itâs not youânot with us, not with Carats.â
Her eyes widened, fingers twisting her keychain. âBut⌠what if they donât like the real me? What if they want the old Y/Nâthe one whoâs always smiling?â
âThen theyâre not real fans,â he said firmly, meeting her gaze. âThe ones who matter will love you for youâstorms and all. And if anyone hates it? Screw âem. Youâve got thirteen brothers whoâll stand by you, no judgment. Weâve got your back, always.â
Her lip trembled, and she looked away, blinking fast. âYou mean it? Even if Iâm not⌠fun all the time?â
âEspecially then,â he said, softening. âYouâre not just our chaos queenâyouâre Y/N. The one who writes lyrics that hit like a truck, who drags Dino into pranks, who makes us laugh and keeps us grounded. You donât have to hide any of it.â
She sniffled, a shaky laugh escaping. âYouâre gonna make me cry, oppa. Stop being so niceâitâs weird!â
âDeal with it,â he teased, tossing her a tissue. âNow go restâyouâve got a masterpiece to share with the others soon. Theyâre gonna lose it when they hear âUnseen.ââ
She grinned, hugging her notebook, the weight of ten years lifting slightly. âThanks, Woozi oppa. Iâm⌠ready for this. I think.â
âYou are,â he said, smiling. âAnd weâre with youâglittery notebook and all.â
The other members hadnât heard âUnseenâ yet, but Y/Nâs solo was shaping into something transformativeâa mirror of her heart, a bold step for their 10th anniversary. Woozi, carrying her notebookâs secrets, felt a new respect for her, knowing her lyrics had unveiled a truth theyâd overlooked. Y/N was ready to redefine herself, and the world would soon meet the real herâshadows, storms, and all.
With Seventeenâs 10th anniversary album nearing release, the studio was a hive of anticipation, but Y/N carried a quiet weight no one else saw. She felt the pressure of a decade in the spotlight, her role as the youngestâand only girlâpushing her to match the groupâs relentless energy. Lately, though, she felt like a stranger in her own skin, as if her bubbly persona was a mask sheâd worn too long. Was it exhaustion from the industryâs demands? Fear of showing her darker side? Or was she simply outgrowing the Y/N everyone expected? She hid her unease behind smiles, but the doubt gnawed at herâespecially as her solo track, âUnseen,â loomed.
Tonight, the group crammed into Wooziâs studio for a listening session, their laughter bouncing off the walls as they prepared to hear each memberâs solo track. The footage would go up on their YouTube channel post-release. Couches were packed, snacks littered the table, and Dino sprawled on the floor, tossing gummy worms at Hoshi. Y/N sat tucked between Seungcheol and Minghao, her trinket-laden bag at her feet, forcing a grin as the chaos unfolded.
One by one, they played the solos, heads bobbing to the beats. Seungcheolâs âJungleâ roared with fierce determination, earning cheers and Mingyuâs dramatic, âHyung, youâre a beast!â Wonwooâs â99.9â was introspective, its smooth flow prompting Vernon to nod, âThatâs my vibeâdeep, man.â Mingyuâs âShake It Offâ had everyone dancing in their seats, Hoshi yelling, âPuppy, youâre stealing my spotlight!â Vernonâs âShining Starâ brought soft smiles, Joshua teasing, âSo youâre a romantic now, huh?â
Dinoâs âTriggerâ followed, a high-energy banger that had Seungkwan hyping, âMaknae energy! You snapped, Dino-yah!â As it ended, Woozi leaned forward, a mischievous glint in his eye, pausing before the next trackâY/Nâs. The group hadnât heard it; she and Woozi had kept it a secret, wanting to surprise them. âAlright, guess time,â Woozi said, smirking. âWhatâs Y/Nâs solo gonna be? Genre, vibeâgo.â
âYeah, like a cheerleader anthem!â Mingyu added, mimicking a dance. âY/Nâs always got that happy energy!â
Seungkwan nodded. âGotta be funâmaybe a cute rap part, like her old tracks!â
Y/N rolled her eyes, slumping into the couch, her heart sinking. âWow, so predictable, huh?â she muttered, half-joking, but the words stung. They saw her as the same old Y/Nâcheerful, chaotic, unchanging.
Woozi laughed, shaking his head. âYouâre all so wrong. Ready for a shock?â He glanced at Y/N, who gave a small nod, her fingers twisting a trinket nervously. âThis is âUnseenââletâs go.â
Hoshi leaned forward, joking, âWhat, is it sexy? Bold? Mature? Spill, Jihoon-ah!â
âJust listen,â Woozi said, hitting play.
The room fell silent as a soft piano melody unfurled, delicate yet heavy, strings weaving in like a quiet ache. Y/Nâs voice followedâraw, vulnerable, unlike her usual bright tone. âIâm not just the light you see, thereâs a storm inside of meâŚâ The lyrics poured out, painting her struggleâfeeling trapped by her âhappyâ image, yearning to be seen as human, flawed, real. âIâm more than the laughter, more than the sparkâIâm a shadow thatâs learning to shine in the dark.â
The membersâ smiles faded, brows furrowing as they leaned in, eyes flicking to Y/N. She stared at her lap, heart pounding, afraid to meet their gazes. The song swelled, her voice breaking on âTen years of smiles, but who sees my tears?â and the studio felt like it held its breath. When the final note faded, a heavy silence hung, the kind that pressed on your chest.
Seungcheol broke it, voice soft, âOh, Y/N-ie⌠thatâs different, huh?â He leaned forward, eyes searching hers, a mix of awe and sadness.
âWho wrote this?â Vernon asked, his usual teasing gone, replaced by quiet intensity.
Woozi pointed at Y/N, a proud smile tugging his lips. âShe did. Every word, every noteâher heart.â
The room eruptedânot in chaos, but in a rush of stunned admiration. âYou wrote that?!â Mingyu gaped, scooting closer. âY/N, thatâs⌠insane. Itâs beautiful.â
âIâm shook,â Vernon said, shaking his head. âItâs so rawâlike, youâre letting us in. I love it.â
Hoshi, usually loud, was quiet, eyes glistening. âI didnât know you felt like that, Y/N-ie. Itâs⌠it hurts, but itâs amazing.â
Y/Nâs lip trembled, her hands gripping her trinkets to steady herself. âI was scared you wouldnât like it,â she whispered, voice cracking. âItâs not fun or happyâitâs⌠me. The parts I hide. I thought⌠maybe youâd want the old Y/N.â Tears spilled over, and she swiped at them, embarrassed.
Seungcheol slid closer, pulling her into a side hug. âKid, we love it. And we love youâevery part, happy or not. You donât have to hide this from us.â
âYeah,â Joshua added, voice gentle. âYouâre our sisterâbubbly, sad, whatever. Weâre here for all of it. This song? Itâs you, and itâs perfect.â
Dino, eyes wide, leaned over. âIâve seen you cry, but this⌠itâs different. Youâve been carrying this alone? Why didnât you tell us?â
âI didnât want to be a burden,â she admitted, tears flowing freely now. âAs the only girl, I got so much hateâpeople saying I didnât fit, that I was too loud, too girly. So I played up the bubbly side, to vibe with you guys, to prove I belonged. But⌠Iâm tired. Iâm 25, and Iâm not that kid anymore. Iâm scared to show the real me.â
Seungkwan reached for her hand, squeezing it. âYou belongâalways have, always will. You donât need to prove anything. If youâre hurting, tell us. Weâre not just a groupâweâre family.â
âAnd screw the haters,â Seungkwan said fiercely, wiping his own eyes. âYour songâs gonna shut them up. This is Y/Nâreal, strong, ours.â
One by one, the twelve showered her with wordsâWonwooâs quiet âItâs poetic, Y/N-ieâyouâve got soul,â Mingyuâs earnest âIâm so proud of you,â Vernonâs simple âYou killed it.â Even Woozi, usually reserved, said, âYou showed your heart, kid. Thatâs braver than any of us.â
Y/N sobbed, overwhelmed, her usual spark drowned in vulnerability. âI thought⌠I had to be happy for you guys, for Carats. I didnât want to let anyone down.â
Seungcheol hugged her tighter, his voice thick. âYou could never let us down. If youâre struggling, we want to knowâweâll carry it with you. Youâre not alone in the dark, Y/N-ie.â
The others piled in, a messy group hug that toppled snacks and sent trinkets jingling. Hoshi sniffled loudly, âStop making me cry, you gremlin!â earning a watery laugh from Y/N. For the first time, she felt seenânot as the maknae, the girl, the clown, but as herself, shadows and all.
The session revealed a Y/N theyâd missedâher tears werenât new, but her quiet pain was. As the only girl, sheâd fought to fit their rhythm, absorbing hate to shield her place, crafting a persona to belong. Her bubbly side had been armor, and âUnseenâ cracked it open, leaving the thirteen raw. They felt the sting of neglectânot intentional, but realâknowing their laughter had sometimes drowned out her silent struggles.
After ten years of love, Y/N walks away from Wonwoo, a dedicated doctor, to chase a life unshaped by othersâ dreams, shattering their once-unbreakable bond. Two years later, sheâs an artist with a gallery of her own, while he masks his heartache in endless hospital shifts. A chance encounter at her gallery opening rekindles memories through a single paintingâwould this path bring them back together, or leave their story unfinished?
Pairing: Non-Idol Wonwoo X reader
Genre: Angst
WC: 4.2k
The first few months after the breakup were a descent into darkness for Y/N. Sheâd fled to that small coastal town with dreams of freedom, but instead, she found herself trapped in a prison of her own making. The suitcase sat unpacked in the corner of the weathered house, a silent witness to her unraveling. She shut down her social media accounts, deleted the apps from her phone, and severed every tie to the life sheâd left behind. The world didnât need to see her like thisâbroken, hollow, a shell of the woman whoâd once laughed so easily in Wonwooâs arms.
Nights were the worst. Sheâd lie in bed, the sound of the waves crashing outside a cruel reminder of how alone she was, and cry until her throat ached. Sheâd sob into her pillow, muffling the sound so the universe wouldnât hear her regret. Had she done the right thing? Sheâd wanted to find herself, to break free from the chains of expectation, but all sheâd found was a void. Wonwooâs absence was a wound that wouldnât heal, a constant ache that pulsed with every breath. Sheâd loved him like he was her entire world, and now that world was gone.
Her parents had called, of course. Theyâd tracked her down through a mutual friend, their voices sharp with disappointment when she finally picked up. âYouâre throwing everything away,â her mother had said, her tone laced with the same judgment Y/N had spent her life trying to escape. âWe gave you everything, and this is how you repay us?â Her father had been quieter, but his silence was heavier, a disapproval that cut deeper than words. The fight that followed was explosiveâyears of pent-up resentment spilling out until sheâd slammed the phone down and walked out of the life theyâd built for her, slamming the door on their expectations for good.
She tried to paint, to reclaim the passion sheâd once had, but her hands wouldnât cooperate. The brushes felt foreign, the colors dull. Every stroke was a reminder of what sheâd lost, not just Wonwoo but the version of herself sheâd buried under everyone elseâs dreams. So she turned to alcohol instead. Cheap wine, bitter whiskeyâanything to numb the pain, to blur the edges of her guilt. Sheâd sit on the porch, glass in hand, staring at the horizon as the days bled into weeks, then months. It didnât help her forget, not really, but it dulled the sharpness enough to keep her breathing.
After six months of drowning, something snapped. She woke up one morning, head pounding, the taste of regret sour on her tongue, and decided she couldnât keep living like this. She poured the last of the liquor down the sink, packed her suitcase, and bought a plane ticket to nowhere in particular. Sheâd travel, she told herself. Sheâd see the world, chase the horizon until she found something worth holding onto. Maybe then sheâd stop crying.
A year later, she was a different womanâor at least, she was starting to feel like one. The travels had taken her across continents: the bustling streets of Tokyo, the quiet canals of Amsterdam, the sun-drenched cliffs of Santorini. Sheâd walked until her feet ached, eaten food she couldnât pronounce, and let the world wash over her like a cleansing tide. Somewhere along the way, the tears had stopped. Somewhere along the way, sheâd picked up a paintbrush again.
It started smallâa sketch of a fisherman in Portugal, the lines of his weathered face telling a story she couldnât put into words. Then a watercolor of a Parisian cafĂŠ, the soft blur of rain on cobblestones. The more she painted, the more she felt herself coming back to life. She rented a studio in a quiet Italian village for a few months, filling canvases with colors she hadnât touched in years. The passion sheâd lost crept back, tentative at first, then bold and unapologetic.
By the two-year mark, sheâd opened her own gallery in a small city sheâd fallen in love with during her travels. It was a modest space, all white walls and natural light, where she hung her paintingsâpieces of her soul laid bare for strangers to see. She met new people: artists, travelers, locals who saw her not as the dutiful daughter or the heartbroken ex, but as Y/N, the woman whoâd built something out of nothing. She smiled more, a genuine smile that reached her eyes, and for the first time in years, she felt content. Happy, even.
But Wonwoo never left her mind. She still loved him, a quiet, persistent ache that lived in the spaces between her ribs. Sheâd reactivated her social media under a new name, posting her paintings and snippets of her lifeâsunsets, coffee cups, her hands stained with paint. She didnât know if he saw them, but she hoped he did. Late at night, sheâd scroll through his old Instagram, the same handful of photos heâd posted years ago, frozen in time. He hadnât updated it since the breakup, and the silence nibbled at her. Was he okay? Was he happy? Did he hate her for what sheâd done? Selfishly, she wished he still loved her, that he was waiting for her to come back, even though she knew she had no right to ask that of him.
Wonwoo, meanwhile, had been living a half-life. The hospital kept him busyâlong shifts stitching wounds, setting bones, saving livesâbut it couldnât fill the emptiness sheâd left behind. Heâd stayed in their old apartment for a while, surrounded by ghosts of her laughter, her scent, her presence, until it became unbearable. He moved to a smaller place near the hospital, a sterile box with no memories, and threw himself into work.
He didnât talk about her, not even to his colleagues. But he followed her, quietly, through the new account sheâd made. Heâd found it by chance one sleepless night, a painting of a stormy sea popping up in his explore feed, her name attached to it. He didnât follow herâhe couldnât bring himself toâbut he checked it religiously, scrolling through her posts like a man starving for scraps. She looked happy, her smile genuine in a way he hadnât seen in years, and it both warmed and broke him. He wanted her to be happy, more than anything, but God, he missed her. He missed her so much it felt like a physical weight, pressing down on his chest every time he breathed.
He didnât date. Friends tried to set him up, but he brushed them off with a polite smile and a vague excuse. How could he explain that his heart still belonged to her, that no one else could ever compare? He didnât know if sheâd come back, didnât know if heâd even want her to after everything, but he couldnât let go. He wished for destiny to intervene, to bring them back together when the time was right, if it ever would be.
Two years after the breakup, on a crisp afternoon, Wonwoo found himself in a car with Soo-jin, a new friend heâd met at the hospital. Soo-jin was a pediatrician, a bright-eyed woman with a sharp wit and a love for painting that rivaled her dedication to medicine. Theyâd bonded over late-night coffee in the break room, her chatter about art exhibitions cutting through the monotony of his days. Her birthday was approaching, and sheâd been pestering him for weeks to visit a new gallery opening near the hospital. âItâs small, but the artist is incredible,â sheâd said, her voice brimming with excitement. âPlease, Wonwoo. Come with me. Itâs all I want for my birthday.â
Heâd agreed, more out of obligation than interest. Art hadnât held much appeal for him since Y/N leftâtoo many emotions he didnât want to faceâbut Soo-jinâs enthusiasm was hard to resist. As they drove, she filled the silence with stories about the painter, someone sheâd heard about through a friend, though Wonwoo only half-listened, gazing out the window at the city blurring by.
The gallery was tucked into a quiet street, a sleek little building with a sign that read âHorizonâ in elegant script. Inside, it was warm and bright, the walls lined with paintings that pulsed with lifeâlandscapes, portraits, abstract swirls of color. Soo-jin darted off to admire the pieces, her phone out to snap photos, her voice bubbling with delight as she chatted with strangers. Wonwoo wandered aimlessly, hands in his pockets, letting the crowdâs hum wash over him.
He stopped in front of a painting near the back, his breath catching. It was a scene of a library, soft and muted, with a boy sitting at a table, headphones over his ears, lost in a book. A girl stood a few feet away, her camera raised to snap a photo of him, a shy smile on her face. The details were uncannyâthe slant of the boyâs shoulders, the way the girlâs hair fell over one eye. It was them, or at least a version of them, captured in the moment theyâd met all those years ago. He remembered it vividly: her fumbling with the camera, him pretending not to notice until sheâd laughed and introduced herself.
His heart thudded in his chest. It could be a coincidence, he told himself. Libraries were common, headphones and cameras too. But something about itâthe tenderness in the brushstrokes, the quiet intimacyâfelt too personal, too specific. He stepped closer, reading the title on the plaque: âFirst Light.â No artist name, just that.
He turned to a staff member nearby, a young woman with a clipboard. âExcuse me,â he said, his voice rougher than he intended. âIâd like to buy this one.â
She smiled. âGreat choice. Itâs one of the artistâs favorites. Iâll get the paperwork startedâoh, here she comes now. She can tell you more about it.â
Wonwoo froze as a figure talked from behind him, her voice cutting through the air like a blade heâd never stopped feeling. âThis oneâs special,â she was saying, her tone warm and familiar. âItâs about beginnings, about finding something you didnât know you were looking for.â
He didnât turn around, couldnât, his body locked in place as the realization crashed over him. It was her. Y/N. Her voice was unmistakable, softer now, lighter, but still the one that had haunted his dreams for two years. She hadnât seen him yet, his back to her as she spoke to the staff member, gesturing at the painting.
âIt was inspired by a memory,â she continued, oblivious to the storm brewing in the man behind her. âA moment that changed everything.â
Wonwooâs hands clenched at his sides, his throat tight. He wanted to run, to disappear before she turned and saw him, but his feet wouldnât move. The staff member nodded and stepped away, leaving Y/N alone with the paintingâand with him.
He turned then, casually, as if the world wasnât about to tilt on its axis. Their eyes met, and time stopped.
Her face went pale, her lips parting in a silent gasp. âWonwoo?â
He couldnât speak, couldnât breathe. She looked differentâher hair shorter, her eyes brighterâbut she was still her, the woman heâd loved for a decade, the woman heâd let go. And here she was, standing in front of him, holding a piece of their past in her hands.
âY/N,â he managed finally, his voice barely a whisper.
For a moment, they just stared, the gallery fading away, the noise of Soo-jinâs laughter and the chatter of strangers swallowed by the weight of their silence. Two years of longing, of wondering, of healing and breaking all over again, condensed into this single, fragile moment.
And then she smiledâa small, trembling thingâand said, âI didnât know youâd be here.â
Heâd opened his mouth to respond, perhaps to say something that could bridge the gap, when the bubble burst.
âWonwoo! Oh my God, you have to see this one!â Soo-jinâs voice cut through the silence, bright and oblivious, shattering the moment like glass. She bounded over from the other side of the gallery, her dark ponytail bouncing with each step, her face alight with the kind of joy only art could spark in her. Before Wonwoo could react, she looped her arm through his, her fingers curling around his elbow with a familiarity that came from months of easy friendship. She didnât notice the way he stiffened, didnât see the woman standing just feet away, didnât sense the storm brewing in the space sheâd unwittingly invaded.
âCome on,â Soo-jin urged, tugging him toward a painting on the far wall, her smile wide and unguarded. âThis oneâs incredibleâlook at the colors! Itâs like she bottled a sunrise and spilled it onto the canvas.â
Wonwoo stumbled forward, pulled by her momentum, his mind a chaotic swirl of panic and indecision. He glanced back at Y/N, his eyes pleading for her to wait, to understand, but Soo-jinâs chatter drowned out any chance of explanation. âI swear, this artist is a genius,â she was saying, her voice a steady stream of excitement as she dragged him along. âYouâre so quiet todayâdonât tell me youâre bored already!â
He couldnât find his voice, couldnât form the words to stop her, to turn back to Y/N and say what needed to be said. His feet moved mechanically, following Soo-jinâs lead, but his heart stayed rooted in that spot where Y/N stood, watching him go.
Y/N felt the ground shift beneath her, a slow, sickening tilt that threatened to swallow her whole. Sheâd been about to speak, to ask him how he was, to tell him sheâd missed himâsomething, anything to keep him there with her. But then the girl appeared, all brightness and energy, clinging to Wonwoo like she belonged there. Y/Nâs breath caught in her throat, her hands trembling at her sides as she watched them.
The girlâSoo-jin, sheâd heard her name in the chatterâwas beautiful in a effortless way, her smile radiant, her enthusiasm infectious. She pulled Wonwoo away with a laugh, her arm hooked through his as if it were the most natural thing in the world, and he went with her. He didnât pull away, didnât stop her, didnât turn back to Y/N with more than a fleeting glance. And in that moment, the fragile hope Y/N had clung to shattered.
She stood there, alone in the middle of her own gallery, surrounded by the paintings sheâd poured her soul into, and felt the weight of two years crash down on her. Heâd moved on. Of course, he had. Sheâd left him, walked away from their life together, and now heâd found someone elseâsomeone who could make him smile, someone who didnât carry the baggage of her regrets. The girlâs laughter echoed faintly, a sharp contrast to the silence ringing in Y/Nâs ears, and she couldnât look away.
Soo-jin was pointing at a painting now, her voice animated as she gestured wildly, her body leaning into Wonwooâs space. He stood beside her, nodding absently, but Y/N couldnât see his face, couldnât read his expression. All she saw was the ease between them, the way Soo-jinâs hand rested on his arm, the way he didnât pull away. It was enough to twist the knife deeper.
Sheâd spent two years rebuilding herself, painting her way out of the darkness, convincing herself she could be happy without him. But seeing him now, with someone else, made her realize how much sheâd still been holding onto himâhow much sheâd hoped, in her selfish, secret heart, that heâd waited for her. That he still loved her the way she still loved him. But thisâthis was proof sheâd been wrong.
Her chest ached, a hollow pain that spread like ink through water, staining everything it touched. She turned away, blinking back the tears that threatened to spill, and busied herself with a stack of flyers on a nearby table, her hands shaking as she shuffled them pointlessly. She wouldnât cry here, not in her own gallery, not where he could see. Sheâd walked away from him once; she could survive this too.
Wonwooâs mind was a battlefield. Soo-jinâs voice washed over him, a stream of words about brushstrokes and light that he couldnât process. His body was here, standing in front of a vibrant painting of a sunrise, but his thoughts were back there, with Y/N. Heâd seen the shock in her eyes, the flicker of somethingâhope, maybeâbefore Soo-jin had pulled him away. And now he was stuck, trapped between the friend who didnât know what sheâd interrupted and the woman heâd never stopped loving.
âWonwoo, are you even listening?â Soo-jin teased, nudging him with her elbow. âYouâre like a statue today. Whatâs up with you?â
He forced a smile, his throat tight. âSorry. Just⌠distracted.â
She tilted her head, studying him with a mix of curiosity and concern, but before she could press further, her eyes lit up again. âOh, wait, thereâs another one over hereâcome on!â She grabbed his hand this time, pulling him toward a cluster of smaller canvases, her excitement undeterred by his silence.
He let her lead him, his limbs heavy, his heart pounding. He wanted to turn back, to run to Y/N and explainâexplain that Soo-jin was just a friend, that he hadnât moved on, that seeing her again had ripped open every wound heâd tried to heal. But how could he? Soo-jin was oblivious, her arm still linked with his, and Y/N was⌠God, he didnât even know what she was thinking. Had she seen this and assumed the worst? Did she think heâd replaced her?
The thought made him sick. He glanced over his shoulder, searching for her in the crowd, but sheâd moved. She was by a table now, her back to him, her head bowed as she fiddled with somethingâpapers, maybe. The distance between them felt insurmountable, a gulf widened by misunderstanding and two years of silence.
âSeriously, Wonwoo, youâre killing me here,â Soo-jin said, laughing as she let go of his hand to step closer to a painting of a stormy sea. âIf I didnât know better, Iâd think you were in love with this artist or something.â
He flinched, the words hitting too close to home. âItâs not that,â he muttered, shoving his hands into his pockets. âJust⌠tired.â
She raised an eyebrow, unconvinced, but shrugged it off. âWell, perk up. Weâre here to have fun, remember? My birthday gift?â
He nodded, forcing another smile, but his mind was elsewhere. He needed to talk to Y/N, to clear this up before it spiraled into something he couldnât fix. But how? Soo-jin was relentless, her energy pulling him along like a current he couldnât fight, and Y/N was retreating, slipping further away with every second he didnât act.
Y/N watched them from the corner of her eye, her hands still clutching the flyers she didnât need to organize. Soo-jin was talking animatedly, her hands waving as she pointed at another painting, and Wonwoo stood beside her, his posture stiff but attentive. They looked good together, she thought bitterlyâSoo-jinâs brightness balancing his quiet steadiness in a way Y/N never had. Sheâd always been the storm, the chaos, the one who needed saving. Maybe he was better off with someone who didnât carry so much weight.
She swallowed the lump in her throat, turning fully away now, her back to them as she pretended to adjust a frame on the wall. The painting in front of her blurred, her vision swimming with tears she refused to let fall. Sheâd made her choice two years ago, walked away to find herself, and sheâd done itâsheâd built this gallery, found her passion, carved out a life that was hers. So why did it feel like sheâd lost everything all over again?
A staff member approached, her voice hesitant. âY/N? Someoneâs asking about First Light. They want to buy it.â
She nodded, forcing her voice steady. âIâll handle it. Give me a minute.â
She took a deep breath, smoothing her expression into something neutral, something professional. She could do this. She could face him again, sell him the painting, and let him walk away with Soo-jin without breaking down. Sheâd survived worse.
But as she turned back toward the spot where sheâd left him, she saw Soo-jin laughing, her head tipping back as she grabbed Wonwooâs arm again, pulling him toward the exit. He glanced back once more, his eyes finding hers across the room, and for a heartbeat, she thought he might come back. That he might break free and close the distance between them.
He didnât. Soo-jinâs tug was insistent, and he followed her out the door, disappearing into the evening light.
Y/N stood there, the gallery suddenly too quiet, the weight of her own assumptions pressing down on her. He was gone, and heâd taken her last shred of hope with him.
Wonwoo stepped outside, the cool air hitting his face like a slap. Soo-jin was still talking, her voice a distant hum as she pointed at something down the street, but he couldnât focus. His mind was back in the gallery, with Y/Nâs pale face, her trembling smile, the way sheâd looked at him like heâd just broken her heart all over again.
âWonwoo, youâre hopeless,â Soo-jin said, laughing as she nudged him. âI dragged you here to cheer you up, and you look like youâve seen a ghost.â
He stopped walking, his hands clenching in his pockets. âSoo-jin,â he said, his voice low. âI need to go back.â
She blinked, surprised. âWhat? Why? We just got hereââ
âThereâs something I need to do,â he cut in, his tone firm despite the tremor in it. âIâll meet you later, okay? Iâm sorry.â
She frowned, clearly confused, but nodded. âOkay, fine. But you owe me a coffee for ditching me on my birthday outing.â
âDeal,â he said, already turning back toward the gallery, his pulse racing. He didnât know what heâd say, didnât know how to fix this, but he couldnât leave it like thisânot with her thinking heâd moved on, not when every fiber of him still belonged to her.
He pushed through the door, his eyes scanning the room, and froze. Y/N was standing by First Lightâthe painting heâd planned to buy, the one that captured their beginningâtalking to a man in a sharp suit. The man was gesturing at the canvas, his voice loud enough to carry. âIâll pay double whateverâs on the tag,â he was saying. âItâs perfect for my office.â
Wonwooâs stomach dropped. He strode forward, his resolve hardening. âItâs already reserved,â he said, stepping into the conversation, his voice steady despite the chaos in his chest. âI spoke to the staff earlier. Itâs mine.â
The man turned, his brow furrowing. âI donât see a sold sign. I want it, and Iâm willing to negotiate.â
âItâs not for sale to you,â Wonwoo shot back, his tone sharper than he intended. âIâve claimed it.â
Y/Nâs head snapped up, her eyes widening as she saw him again. Shock flickered across her face, followed by a tangle of emotions she couldnât hideâconfusion, hope, fear. She opened her mouth, but the man cut in, undeterred.
âCome on, name your price,â he pressed, crossing his arms. âIâm not leaving without it.â
Wonwooâs jaw tightened, his hands curling into fists. He wasnât just fighting for a painting; he was fighting for a piece of them, a memory he refused to let slip away. âItâs not about money. Itâs mine.â
âEnough,â Y/N said suddenly, stepping between them, her voice firm but trembling. âThis painting isnât for sale. I made it for myself. Itâs not going anywhere.â
The man huffed, clearly annoyed, but he read the resolve in her eyes and relented. âFine. Your loss.â He stalked off, muttering under his breath, leaving them alone once more.
The gallery seemed to shrink around them, the hum of the crowd fading into a distant murmur. Y/N and Wonwoo stood there, inches apart, staring at each other like theyâd forgotten how to breathe. Her chest rose and fell unevenly, her fingers clutching the edge of her sleeve, and he saw the question in her eyesâwhy had he come back?
Neither spoke, the silence stretching taut between them, heavy with everything they hadnât said in two years. His heart pounded, a thousand words fighting to break free, but he waited, letting her set the pace.
âY/N!â a staff member called from across the room, breaking the spell. âWe need you over hereâsomeoneâs asking about the seascape.â
She glanced away, then back at him, her gaze softening. âIâll be back,â she said quietly, hesitating. âWill youâŚ?â
âIâll wait,â Wonwoo replied, his voice low but laced with meaning. âHowever long it takes.â
She nodded, a faint flicker of understanding passing between them, and turned to follow the staff member. He watched her go, her silhouette moving through the crowd, and settled against the wall, his eyes fixed on First Light. Heâd waited two years for herâthrough the silence, the longing, the nights heâd replayed their last moments together. Heâd wait now, as long as she needed.
That day, their tenth anniversary, heâd had a ring in his pocket, a question on his lips. Heâd planned to propose, to bind their lives together forever, but sheâd walked away before he could ask. Things had happened, life had shifted, but he wouldnât let it happen again. Not this time.

The night was heavy, a quiet blanket draped over Seoul, the cityâs usual hum muted under the weight of exhaustion. Y/N, collapsed onto her bed in her modest apartment, her limbs aching from a relentless day. Photoshoots with blinding flashes, recording sessions that stretched her vocal cords thin, dance practice that left her muscles screaming, and a guest appearance on a talk show where she plastered on her brightest smileâit was all too much. Her phone lay silent on the nightstand, its screen dark, mirroring the exhaustion in her bones. She was moments from slipping into sleep when the sharp ring of her phone cut through the stillness.
âWhoâs calling this late?â she muttered, rubbing her eyes as she reached for the device. The screen lit up with Mom. A faint smile tugged at her lipsâprobably another late-night gossip session or one of her dadâs corny jokes her mom loved to relay. She swiped to answer, her voice soft and groggy. âHey, Mom, whatâs up? Another dad joke?â
But the voice on the other end wasnât warm or teasing. It was jagged, broken by sobs. âY/N, sweetheart, itâsâitâs Grandma,â her mother choked out, her words trembling. âSheâs in the hospital. Itâs bad, honey. Weâre on vacation, but weâre booking a flight back to Korea right now. Can youâcan you go to her? Please, Y/N, she needs you.â
Y/Nâs heart plummeted, the air sucked out of her lungs. âWhat? Grandma? What happened? Is she okay?â Her voice cracked, sleep evaporating as panic clawed at her chest.
âShe collapsed,â her mother sobbed. âThey donât know yet, but itâs serious. Please, Y/N, go now. Weâll be there as soon as we can.â
The call ended, leaving Y/N frozen, her phone trembling in her hand. Her grandmotherâher rock, her fiercest supporter. The woman who, when Y/Nâs parents scoffed at her dreams of becoming a singer, sat her down and said, âYou chase that star, my girl. Donât let anyone dim your light.â The woman who watched every Seventeen performance on TV, no matter how small, and sent Y/N texts like, âMy superstar, you made me cry with pride today.â The thought of her lying in a hospital bed, frail and fighting, shattered Y/Nâs heart.
She stumbled out of bed, throwing on a hoodie and grabbing her keys. The drive to the hospital was a blur, her hands shaking on the steering wheel, her mind a storm of âWhat if Iâm too late?â and âPlease, Grandma, hold on.â The city lights streaked past, but all she could see was her grandmotherâs warm smile, her weathered hands clapping along to Y/Nâs first stage performance.
At the hospital, the sterile smell of antiseptic hit her like a wall. She ran to the reception desk, her voice frantic. âIâm here for my grandmother, Park Hye-sook. Where is she? Please, I need to see her!â
The nurseâs face was kind but strained. âSheâs in the ICU, miss. The doctors are with her now. Please, take a seat, and theyâll update you soon.â
Y/Nâs knees buckled, but she forced herself to sit in the cold, plastic chair in the waiting area. Her phone buzzedâtexts from her sister, Min-ji, who was on her way. Y/N clutched the device, her lifeline to the outside world, but she couldnât bring herself to call the boys or their manager. Not yet. This pain was too raw, too personal.
Minutes bled into hours. Y/Nâs eyes burned from staring at the ICU doors, willing them to open with good news. Finally, a doctor emerged, his face etched with a seriousness that made Y/Nâs stomach lurch. She stood, her legs wobbly, Min-ji arriving just in time to grab her hand.
âAre you Park Hye-sookâs family?â the doctor asked, his voice low.
Y/N nodded, her throat tight. âYes, Iâm her granddaughter, Y/N. This is my sister, Min-ji. Please, how is she?â
The doctorâs eyes softened, but his words were a knife. âIâm so sorry. We did everything we could, but your grandmotherâs condition was too severe. Her heart gave out. She passed away a few minutes ago.â
The world tilted. Y/Nâs knees gave way, and Min-ji caught her, both of them sinking to the floor. âNo,â Y/N whispered, her voice breaking. âNo, no, no, she canât be gone. She was supposed to see my next comeback. She was supposed toââ Her words dissolved into sobs, raw and guttural, tearing from her chest. Min-ji clung to her, crying just as hard, their grief a shared wound.
âShe was so proud of you, Y/N,â Min-ji managed through her tears. âShe always said you were her greatest joy.â
Y/Nâs mind flashed to her grandmotherâs last text after SEVENTEENâs latest performance: âMy Y/N, you shine brighter than all the stars. Keep singing for me.â The memory was a dagger, twisting deeper. She couldnât call her parentsâthey were probably on a plane, unreachable. It was just her and Min-ji, two girls drowning in loss in the sterile hospital corridor.
The rest of the night was a haze of heartbreak and duty. Y/N didnât sleep, didnât eat, didnât think about Seventeen or the schedule waiting for her tomorrow. She forgot to text the boys, forgot to tell their manager she wouldnât make it to morning practice. Her world had narrowed to this hospital, to the unbearable task of arranging her grandmotherâs funeral. She sent messages to family members, her fingers trembling as she typed, âGrandma passed away tonight. Please come to Seoul General Hospital.â
One by one, aunts, uncles, and cousins arrived, their faces mirroring Y/Nâs devastation. They took over some tasksâspeaking with the funeral director, arranging transportâbut Y/N couldnât let go of the responsibility. âSheâd want me to do this right,â she whispered to Min-ji as they sorted through paperwork, her voice hollow. âShe always said I was strong enough for anything.â
But she didnât feel strong. She felt like a child, lost and aching for the woman who believed in her when no one else did. The hospital lights buzzed overhead, cold and unforgiving, as Y/N sat by her grandmotherâs side one last time, holding her hand, now still and cool. âIâm so sorry, Grandma,â she sobbed. âI shouldâve been here sooner. I shouldâve told you I love you one more time.â
The night had stretched into an eternity, each minute heavy with the weight of her grandmotherâs absence. Her aunties began to arrive, their soft footsteps and murmured condolences filling the space, but Y/N barely registered their presence. Her heart was a hollow drum, beating only with grief.
Min-ji, her sister, slid into the seat beside her, gently taking Y/Nâs cold hands in her own. âYou okay, Y/N? I mean, I know youâre not, butâŚâ Her voice wavered, her own eyes red from crying. She squeezed Y/Nâs hands tighter, trying to anchor her. âGrandma texted me last night, you know. She was so excited, asking me to help her organize her Seventeen merch collection again.â
Y/Nâs lips twitched, a ghost of a smile breaking through her daze. âShe was obsessed with that collection,â she whispered, her voice hoarse. âHer house⌠itâs like a museum of us. Of me.â
Min-ji let out a soft laugh, though it was tinged with sorrow. âYeah, every wallâs got your face on it. Posters, albums, that one giant cutout of you from the last comebackâsheâd point at it and say, âThatâs my girl, the brightest star in Seventeen.ââ She paused, her voice cracking. âShe even had a shelf just for the signed stuff. Remember how sheâd call you every time new merch dropped, demanding autographs from every member?â
Y/Nâs smile grew, bittersweet. âSheâd call me at, like, 2 am, saying, âY/N, I need Wooziâs signature on this photocard, and donât you dare forget Hoshi!ââ She shook her head, the memory warming her for a fleeting moment before the ache returned. âShe loved you guys so much. She was our biggest fan.â
Their auntie, Soo-jin, approached quietly, her face etched with concern as she sat on Y/Nâs other side. âY/N, sweetheart, have you told your company yet? The boys? They should know whatâs going on.â
The words hit like a jolt. Y/Nâs eyes widened, her breath catching. âOh no⌠I forgot,â she admitted, her voice barely audible. The thought of texting the members or their manager felt like climbing a mountain. Her phone sat heavy in her pocket, untouched since sheâd messaged her family. âI⌠I canât right now. Iâm too tired. Iâll tell them tomorrow.â
Soo-jinâs brow furrowed, her hand resting gently on Y/Nâs shoulder. âYou need to rest, Y/N. You look like youâre about to collapse. Let us handle things here for a bit.â
Min-ji nodded, her grip on Y/Nâs hand tightening. âSheâs right, Y/N. You havenât slept, and youâre pale as a ghost. Grandma wouldnât want you running yourself into the ground like this.â
Y/Nâs shoulders slumped, exhaustion winning over her stubbornness. âOkay,â she murmured, her voice small. âIâll go home, rest for a bit. Iâll head to the company tomorrow to tell them, then come back to the funeral.â
Her uncle, Jae-ho, who had been quietly coordinating with the funeral director, stepped forward. âIâll drive you home, Y/N. No arguments.â His tone was firm but kind, and Y/N didnât have the energy to protest.
The drive back to her apartment was silent, the cityâs lights blurring past like tears streaking down a window. Y/N leaned her head against the cool glass, her grandmotherâs voice echoing in her mind: âYou shine brighter than all the stars.â The words felt like a promise she wasnât sure she could keep anymore.
When they reached her apartment, Y/N stumbled through the door, her uncleâs gentle âGet some sleep, kiddoâ following her inside. She collapsed onto her bed, still in her hoodie, her heart a leaden weight in her chest. As her eyes fluttered shut, the image of her grandmotherâs proud smile lingered, and sleep claimed her, heavy with grief and unspoken goodbyes.
The next morning light filtered weakly through Y/Nâs curtains, but it did little to lift the heaviness that clung to her. She woke late, her body protesting from the chaos of the previous night. Her phone lay untouched on the nightstand, likely buzzing with missed calls and texts from the boys, who were probably at the HYBE building for their early practice. Seventeenâs schedule was relentless, and Y/N knew theyâd be wondering where she was, but the thought of facing her phoneâof facing anyoneâfelt like too much. Her heart was still raw, her grandmotherâs absence a wound that hadnât stopped bleeding.
After dragging herself out of bed, Y/N took a quick shower, the hot water doing little to soothe her. She pulled on a loose hoodie and a cap, tugging it low to hide her puffy, tear-streaked face. As she drove to the HYBE building, her vision blurred with fresh tears. Memories of her grandmother flooded her mindâher infectious laugh that could light up a room, the way sheâd cook mountains of food for the members whenever they visited. âYou boys and my Y/N work too hard,â sheâd say, piling plates high with kimchi jjigae and bulgogi. âEat up, or Iâll tell the fans youâre not taking care of my girl!â The thought of never hearing that laugh again made Y/Nâs chest tighten, and she had to grip the steering wheel to steady herself.
She parked outside the HYBE building, wiping her tears with the sleeve of her hoodie before stepping out. Keeping her cap low, she slipped into the elevator, only to find their manager, Min-soo, already inside. She forced a small bow, her voice barely above a whisper. âGood morning, Min-soo oppa.â
He frowned, noting her disheveled appearance. âY/N, you okay? You look⌠rough.â
Her throat tightened, but she pushed the words out. âMy grandmother⌠she passed away last night. I was at the hospital.â
Min-sooâs face softened, his eyes filled with sympathy. âIâm so sorry, Y/N. My deepest condolences. Why didnât you text me? I couldâve informed everyone, and you couldâve stayed at the funeral. You need rest.â
Y/N shook her head, her voice trembling. âI wanted to tell the boys myself. They deserve to hear it from me.â
Min-soo nodded, though his concern lingered. âThe boys have been asking about you. Theyâre in the practice room, but⌠you havenât told them yet, have you?â
âNo,â Y/N admitted, her gaze dropping to the floor. âI havenât had the chance.â
âAlright,â Min-soo said gently. âBut, Y/N, you donât have to push yourself. The company can give you a hiatus. Weâll post a notice later to inform the fans about your grandmother. You focus on your family for now.â
Y/N nodded, too drained to argue. âThank you, oppa.â
The elevator dinged, and they stepped out. Min-soo gave her a reassuring pat on the shoulder before she headed to the practice room. Her heart pounded as she opened the door, the familiar thump of music and the sound of sneakers squeaking on the floor greeting her. The boys were scattered across the room, sweat-soaked and visibly exhausted from hours of practicing new choreography. The air was thick with tension, and Y/Nâs stomach churned.
Before she could speak, Seungcheolâs sharp voice cut through the room. âY/N, where have you been? Youâre hours late. Weâve been waiting for you!â His face was a mix of frustration and annoyance, his arms crossed tightly.
Hoshi, the performance unit leader, didnât hold back either. âYou know better than this, Y/N. Weâre learning a new choreo, and itâs already a mess with one member missing. This isnât just about youâit affects all of us.â His tone was stern, his usual playful demeanor buried under the weight of his responsibility.
Woozi, usually calm, added fuel to the fire, his voice clipped. âWe canât keep adjusting because someone didnât show up. Whatâs going on, Y/N?â
The three of them stared at her, their annoyance palpable. Y/N stood frozen, her head bowed, the brim of her cap hiding the tears welling in her eyes. She knew she shouldâve texted, shouldâve warned them, but the weight of her grief had swallowed everything else. Hoshi shook his head and stormed out, muttering under his breath. Woozi followed, his expression unreadable, while Seungcheol gave her a lingering look, a faint smile that didnât reach his eyes before he left too.
Y/N stood there, alone in the silence, guilt piling onto her already shattered heart. âItâs my fault,â she whispered to herself. âI shouldâve told them. They donât knowâŚâ
Before she could gather her thoughts, Min-soo reentered the room, his phone in hand. âY/N, the companyâs sending flowers to the funeral as a condolence. Can you give me the address?â He paused, glancing at the remaining members, who had frozen mid-stretch, their eyes snapping to Y/N. âIâve informed the company, and weâre drafting a notice for the fans now.â
The room went deathly quiet. Joshua, his voice soft but laced with concern, stepped forward. âWait⌠what happened, Y/N? Funeral? Is everything okay?â
Y/Nâs throat closed up. She wanted to explain, to tell them about her grandmother, about the woman who loved them all like her own, but the words wouldnât come. âThank you, oppa,â she said to Min-soo, her voice barely audible, before turning and bolting out of the room.
In the hallway, she passed Hoshi, who called out, âY/N, wait!â But she couldnât stop, couldnât face him or the others. Her exhaustion, her heartbreak, her guiltâit was all too much. She understood why they were upset; sheâd left them in the dark, but the sting of their anger without asking why cut deeper than she expected.
She drove back to the funeral, her hands shaking on the wheel. At the venue, she changed into a black and white hanbok, the traditional mourning clothes feeling like a physical manifestation of her grief. As she stepped into the room filled with her grandmotherâs memory, the weight of the day pressed down on her, and she braced herself to face the next steps alone, her heart still heavy with unspoken words.
Back at the HYBE practice room, the air was thick with tension and exhaustion. The remaining members stood in a loose circle, catching their breath after hours of grueling choreography. Seungcheol, still reeling from the earlier confrontation, turned to their manager, Min-soo, who lingered by the door. His brow furrowed with unease. âMin-soo hyung, what was that about a funeral? Whatâs going on with Y/N?â
Min-sooâs eyes widened slightly, surprise flickering across his face. âWait, she didnât tell you guys?â He paused, rubbing the back of his neck as the members exchanged confused glances. âY/Nâs grandmother passed away last night. She was at the hospital dealing with everything. Thatâs why she was late. Sheâs taking a hiatus for now, so weâll need to adjust the choreography until sheâs ready to return.â
The room fell into a stunned silence, the weight of the revelation settling over them like a heavy fog. Seungcheolâs face paled, his earlier annoyance replaced by a sinking guilt. âNobody knew?â he asked, his voice low as he scanned the group. The members shook their heads, their expressions a mix of shock and regret.
Hoshi, who had just reentered the room, caught the tail end of the conversation. His usual energy was subdued, sensing the shift in the atmosphere. âWhatâs going on? What happened?â he asked, looking from Seungcheol to Min-soo.
Joshua, his voice soft but heavy, filled him in. âY/Nâs grandmother passed away last night. Thatâs why she was late. Sheâs at the funeral now, and sheâs taking a break from the group for a bit.â
Hoshiâs eyes widened, his hand flying to his mouth. âOh no⌠I didnât know. IâI yelled at her.â His voice cracked, guilt washing over him. âI thought she was just⌠I didnât mean to come at her like that.â
Woozi, who had been quiet, clenched his fists, his jaw tight. âNone of us knew,â he muttered, his usual composure fraying. âI feel like such an idiot. We shouldâve asked her what was wrong instead of jumping down her throat.â
Seungcheol nodded, his own guilt mirrored in his eyes. âWe messed up. Big time. Sheâs going through hell, and we made it worse.â
The group fell silent again, the weight of their actions settling heavily on their shoulders. Min-soo cleared his throat, breaking the quiet. âIâm heading out to arrange the flowers weâre sending to the funeral. You guys⌠figure out how to make this right.â He gave them a pointed look before leaving the room.
Hoshi sank onto the floor, running a hand through his hair. âI feel awful. Sheâs always been there for us, and the one time she needed us to understand, we just⌠didnât.â
Jeonghan, who had been quietly processing, spoke up, his voice gentle but firm. âWe need to apologize. Properly. And we need to be there for her now. She shouldnât have to go through this alone.â
The others nodded, a shared resolve forming. Seungcheol pulled out his phone, his fingers hovering over the group chat. âLetâs start with this,â he said, beginning to type.
At the funeral, the air was heavy with the scent of chrysanthemums and the soft hum of murmured condolences. Y/N stood quietly in her black and white hanbok, her parents now by her side, their faces etched with grief. Her mother held her hand tightly, whispering, âYour grandmother was so proud of you, Y/N. Sheâs still watching, you know.â
Y/N nodded, her throat too tight to respond. Her phone had been buzzing all morning with messages from close friends and comments from fans on her social media, where the company had posted a notice about her grandmotherâs passing. The outpouring of love was overwhelming, but it couldnât fill the void left by her grandmotherâs absence.
Her phone vibrated again, and she glanced at it, expecting another condolence. Instead, it was the group chat. Seungcheolâs name popped up with a long message:
âY/N, Iâm so, so sorry about earlier. We had no idea what you were going through. We were frustrated, but thatâs no excuse for not asking why you were late. We feel terrible for adding to your pain. Your grandmother was such an incredible woman, and weâre all heartbroken for you. Please accept our deepest condolences. Weâre finishing up our schedules today, and weâll come to the funeral to support you. Weâre here for you, always. â Cheolâ
One by one, messages from the other members flooded in:
âIâm so sorry, Y/N. I didnât know. We love you, and weâre here for you. â Hoshiâ
âI feel like such a jerk. Please let us make this right. Weâre so sorry for your loss. â Wooziâ
âY/N, weâre coming to be with you. Your grandma was the best. Weâre so sorry. â Joshuaâ
Tears welled in Y/Nâs eyes as she read the messages, a mix of relief and lingering hurt washing over her. She understood their frustration in the momentâthey hadnât knownâbut the sting of their words still lingered. Still, their apologies and promise to come to the funeral warmed a small corner of her heart.
She slipped her phone back into her pocket, turning to face her family and the mourners. The funeral parlor was filled with memories of her grandmother, but now, Y/N felt a flicker of hope that she wouldnât have to carry this grief alone. The boys were coming, and despite the pain of the morning, she knew theyâd stand by her, just as her grandmother always had.
The funeral parlor was bathed in the soft glow of candles, their flickering light casting shadows over the framed photo of Y/Nâs grandmother, her bright smile a stark contrast to the heavy silence of the room. Y/N sat motionless, her eyes fixed on the picture, the weight of her loss anchoring her to the spot. Her phone, buzzing earlier with the boysâ apologies, lay untouched in her pocket. She couldnât bring herself to respondânot because she didnât forgive them, but because the grief was too consuming, a tide pulling her under.
As night fell, the sound of familiar voices broke through the quiet hum of the funeral hall. The Seventeen members arrived, their presence a gentle ripple in the stillness. Y/N didnât look up, her gaze locked on her grandmotherâs smiling face, but she felt them before she saw themâthe warmth of their concern, the quiet shuffle of their steps. Her mother, her eyes red but grateful, greeted them at the entrance. âThank you for coming, boys,â she said, her voice trembling. âPlease, talk to Y/N. Sheâs⌠sheâs not listening to us. She hasnât eaten or rested all day.â
One by one, the members approached, their faces etched with sorrow and guilt. Seungcheol knelt in front of her, his voice soft. âY/N, weâre so sorry about your grandma. She was one of a kind. Weâre here for you, okay?â
Joshua followed, placing a gentle hand on her shoulder. âShe was your biggest fan, Y/N. Our biggest fan. Weâre so sorry for your loss.â
Hoshi, his usual spark dimmed by regret, added quietly, âIâm so sorry for earlier, Y/N. I didnât know. Your grandma⌠she was like family to us too.â
Y/N remained silent, her hands clasped tightly in her lap, but their words wrapped around her like a warm blanket. Jeonghan, ever the gentle soul, sat beside her and pulled her into a hug, his arms steady and comforting. âHey, you donât have to say anything,â he whispered, his voice soothing. âBut your grandma? Sheâs up there, probably bragging to all the angels about her superstar granddaughter and her thirteen chaotic grandsons.â
A small, broken laugh escaped Y/Nâs lips, the first crack in her stoic facade. Jeonghanâs words painted a vivid pictureâher grandmother, with her infectious laugh, proudly showing off Seventeenâs albums to a heavenly audience. âSheâd totally do that,â Y/N murmured, her voice barely audible. âSheâd say, âMy Y/Nâs the best, and donât you dare forget her boys!ââ
The others chuckled softly, gathering closer. DK, his eyes already glistening, chimed in, âRemember when she came to our concert and brought those homemade banners? I swear, she cheered louder than the entire stadium.â
Seungkwan nodded, his voice thick with emotion. âShe made us that huge batch of tteokbokki backstage, and Iâm pretty sure she told Mingyu his cooking could never top hers.â
Mingyu laughed, wiping his eyes. âShe was right, too. I tried to get her recipe, but she just winked and said, âYouâll never know my secrets, pretty boy.ââ
The memories flowed, each one a thread weaving a tapestry of love and laughter. Y/Nâs resolve crumbled, and the tears sheâd held back all day spilled over. She buried her face in Jeonghanâs shoulder, her sobs raw and unrestrained. âI miss her so much,â she choked out. âShe was my everything.â
Jeonghan held her tighter, his own eyes misty. âWe know, Y/N. We miss her too. But sheâs still with you, cheering you on. Sheâll be at every performance, front row in heaven.â
DK and Seungkwan, unable to hold back, joined her in crying, their tears a quiet testament to the love they all shared for Y/Nâs grandmother. The other members gathered closer, forming a protective circle around her. Vernon rested a hand on her back, âWeâre your family, Y/N. Youâre not alone in this.â
Woozi, his earlier anger replaced by tenderness, added, âSheâd want you to keep shining, you know. She always said you were her star.â
The boys stayed by her side, refusing to let her grieve alone. Mingyu and Dino disappeared briefly, returning with trays of food theyâd prepared themselvesâsimple kimbap and fruit, but made with care. âYou need to eat, Y/N,â Mingyu said gently, pushing a plate toward her. âGrandma would have my head if I let you starve.â
Y/N managed a small bite, the act feeling monumental under the weight of her grief. Her mother, watching from across the room, gave the boys a grateful nod. The members also helped with small tasksâarranging flowers, greeting mourners, and ensuring the funeral ran smoothly. A beautiful wreath from the company, adorned with white lilies and a ribbon reading âIn Loving Memory,â stood proudly beside her grandmotherâs photo, a gesture that brought fresh tears to Y/Nâs eyes.
As the night wore on, Seungcheol noticed the dark circles under Y/Nâs eyes. âY/N, you need to rest. Youâre exhausted.â
She shook her head, her voice soft but stubborn. âYou guys are tired too. You had practice all day. You should go home.â
Hoshi grinned, though his eyes were still red. âNot a chance. Weâre not leaving you. Besides, Grandma would haunt us if we didnât take care of you.â
Y/Nâs heart swelled, the warmth of their presence easing the ache just enough to breathe. âThank you,â she whispered, her voice breaking. âI donât know what Iâd do without you guys.â
Jeonghan squeezed her hand, his smile soft but unwavering. âYouâll never have to find out. Weâre here, Y/N. Always.â
As the candles burned low, the boys stayed by her side, their laughter and tears mingling with hers. In the midst of her grief, Y/N found a flicker of solace in the family sheâd built with Seventeen, a bond her grandmother had always cherished. And though the pain of loss lingered, their love reminded her that she wasnât aloneâand that her grandmotherâs light would shine on through them all.

Part 1: Unspoken Feelings
Masterlist
Y/N, Seventeenâs spirited fourteenth member and resident maknae, shares an unbreakable bond with Dino, forged through trainee-day pranks and late-night ramyeon runs. As the group rockets to fame from their scrappy debut, their friendshipâfull of playful banter and unwavering loyaltyâfaces a subtle shift, with unspoken feelings threatening to blur the line between best friends and something more.
Pairing: Seventeen (Dino) x 14th member
Genre: Fluff, lil bit of angst
The practice room buzzed with the familiar chaos of Seventeenâthirteen voices overlapping, laughter bouncing off the mirrors, and the faint hum of their latest track looping in the background. Y/N sprawled dramatically on the floor, her face scrunched in frustration. Her hair stuck to her forehead, and her practice clothes were slightly rumpled from hours of dancing. Across the room, Dino leaned against the wall, catching his breath, his sharp eyes catching her familiar pout from a mile away.
Y/N and Dino had been inseparable since their trainee days, a dynamic duo forged in late-night practice sessions and sneaky trips to the convenience store for ramyeon when their trainers werenât looking. Back then, Y/Nâs wild energy had been a whirlwindâdragging Dino into her schemes, whether it was âborrowingâ a senior traineeâs dance shoes for a prank or sneaking out to chase a stray cat she swore needed their help. Dino, ever the loyal sidekick, followed her lead, even when it meant getting scolded later. Her big, pleading puppy eyes and silver tongue always won him over.
âDino, remember when we got caught trying to ârescueâ that cat outside the dorms?â Y/N had laughed once, years ago, her voice bright as they sat on a park bench sharing a stolen ice cream. âYou were so scared weâd get kicked out, but you still carried that mangy thing for me!â
âI only did it because you wouldnât stop whining about it, Y/N,â heâd shot back, but his grin betrayed him. That was the thing about Y/Nâshe could talk him into anything, and heâd complain the whole way while secretly loving every second.
Now, years later, that same bond held strong, but something had shifted for Dino. He couldnât pinpoint when it started. Maybe it was the night he found her crying on a bench outside the company building, her dreams of debuting in a girl group shattered when the lineup changed last minute. Sheâd looked so small, her usual spark dimmed, and heâd sat beside her, offering quiet comfort until she leaned into him, her tears soaking his sleeve. Or maybe it was the way her smile lit up a room, brighter than any stage light, or how her casual touchesâgrabbing his arm, ruffling his hairâsent his heart into a tailspin. All he knew was that being called her âbest friendâ or âfavorite memberâ felt like a punch to the gut. He wanted more. So much more.
But Y/N? Oblivious as ever. To her, Dino was her partner-in-crime, her go-to for everything from dance tips to late-night snack runs. The other members didnât notice anything off eitherâthey just saw their maknae duo, Y/N leading the charge and Dino trailing behind like her loyal shadow. Even now, as the group took a break from their grueling dance practice, Y/Nâs frustration was palpable, and Dino braced himself for what was coming.
Sure enough, Y/N pushed herself up from the floor, her ponytail swinging as she marched over to him, her lips pursed in that telltale pout. âDino!â she whined, dropping dramatically to her knees beside him. âThis choreography is impossible! I keep messing up that one stupid turn in the chorus, and Hoshi oppaâs gonna kill me if I donât get it right before he comes back from his water break!â
Dino chuckled, wiping sweat from his brow. Her theatrics were nothing new, but they still made his chest feel tight. âItâs not impossible, Y/N. Youâre just overthinking it. Again.â
She huffed, crossing her arms. âEasy for you to say, Mr. I-Get-Every-Move-Perfect-On-The-First-Try. Some of us arenât dance machines, okay?â
He raised an eyebrow, a teasing smirk tugging at his lips. âOh, please. Who was the one who nailed that freestyle battle during training and made all the sunbaes jealous?â
Y/Nâs cheeks flushed, and she swatted his arm. âThat was one time, and you swore youâd never bring it up! I looked like a flailing octopus!â
âA very talented flailing octopus,â he corrected, dodging another playful swat. His heart did that annoying flip again as her hand lingered on his arm, her touch casual but electrifying to him. He cleared his throat, trying to focus. âCome on, show me the part youâre messing up. Iâll walk you through it.â
Her eyes lit up, that familiar spark returning. âReally? Youâre the best, Dino-yah!â She grabbed his hand, pulling him to his feet with that effortless enthusiasm that made his head spin. He let her drag him to the center of the practice room, ignoring the amused glances from Seungkwan and Vernon nearby.
As they ran through the steps, Dino couldnât help but drift back to a memory from their trainee days. Theyâd been in a similar practice room, just the two of them, after everyone else had gone to bed. Y/N had been struggling with a dance sequence then too, her frustration bubbling over until sheâd flopped onto the floor, groaning.
âIâm never gonna get this, Lee Chan,â sheâd mumbled, using his real nameâa habit she only fell into when she was feeling vulnerable. âWhat if Iâm not good enough to debut?â
Heâd sat beside her, nudging her shoulder. âYouâre Y/N. Youâre always good enough. And if youâre not, Iâll just drag you through it until you are.â
Sheâd laughed, her mood lifting, and leaned her head on his shoulder. âYouâre stuck with me, you know that, right?â
âYeah, yeah, my personal chaos gremlin,â heâd teased, but his heart had been racing even then, a hint of something deeper he hadnât yet recognized.
Now, as Y/N mirrored his movements in the present, her tongue poking out in concentration, Dino felt that same warmth flood his chest. But it was sharper now, tinged with longing. Every time she got too closeâher shoulder brushing his, her laughter filling the airâhe wanted to pull her into his arms and tell her everything. That she wasnât just his best friend. That he saw her in every future he imagined. That the thought of her smiling at another guyâsome idol or dancer who didnât know her like he didâmade him want to scream.
But he didnât. He couldnât. Seventeen was his family, and Y/N was too precious to risk losing. What if she didnât feel the same? What if confessing made her pull away, leaving him with nothing but awkward silences where their easy laughter used to be? Worse, what if it threw off the groupâs dynamic, the one theyâd all worked so hard to build?
âDino, youâre zoning out!â Y/Nâs voice snapped him back to reality. She was standing with her hands on her hips, glaring at him playfully. âYouâre supposed to be teaching me, not daydreaming! Whatâs got you so distracted, huh?â
You, he wanted to say. Always you. But instead, he forced a grin. âJust thinking about how you owe me ramyeon for this. Again.â
She gasped, mock-offended. âExcuse me, Lee Chan, I paid you back last time! With that fancy iced coffee you like!â
âThat was, like, three favors ago,â he shot back, falling into their familiar banter. But as she laughed, nudging his shoulder, his heart ached with the weight of everything he couldnât say.
For now, heâd keep being her minion, her dance coach, her best friend. Heâd teach her the steps, sneak out with her for late-night adventures, and glare daggers at any guy who got too close. But deep down, Dino knew he was hopeless. He was down bad for Y/N, and no amount of pretending could change that.
The air in the cramped waiting room at Show Champion buzzed with nervous energy, the kind that only comes with a group on the edge of something big. It was 2016, and Seventeenâfourteen members strongâhad only recently debuted under Pledis Entertainment, a company so small they couldnât even afford proper in-ear monitors. The group made do with cheap earphones, their stage outfits a mix of thrifted finds and DIY flair. But what they lacked in resources, they made up for in passion, their synergy electric as they laughed and jostled in the tiny space.
âIf we win today, Iâm treating everyone to burgers!â Mingyu declared, sprawled across a couch that barely fit half the group. His grin was wide, but his wallet was famously thin.
âAdd fries and ice cream for me!â Y/N piped up, perched on the armrest next to Dino, her eyes sparkling with her usual mischief. She nudged him with her elbow, expecting his usual playful retort.
âY/N, we can barely afford the burgers,â Seungkwan teased, fanning himself with a script. âBut when weâre big shots, weâll get you a whole ice cream truck.â
The room erupted in laughter, Y/Nâs giggle cutting through the noise like a melody. Dino, sitting beside her, tried to focus on the banter, but her laugh sent a familiar warmth through his chest. At seventeen, he chalked it up to the closeness theyâd always sharedâtrainee days spent sneaking snacks, her dragging him to chase stray cats, or the time sheâd cried in his arms when her girl group debut fell through. She was his best friend, his chaotic counterpart. Surely this flutter in his heart was just a phase, a side effect of her being the only girl heâd ever been this close to. Right?
A sharp knock on the door broke the moment. âSeventeen, youâre up next!â a staff member called. The group sprang into action, forming a quick huddle. S.Coupsâ voice was steady as he led their cheer: âOne, two, threeâSeventeen, fighting!â With a collective shout, they filed out, Y/N bouncing on her toes beside Dino, her energy contagious.
On stage, their performance of Pretty U was electric. Every step, every note was fueled by months of sleepless nights and relentless practice. Y/Nâs voice soared in her parts, her movements sharp yet playful, and Dino couldnât help but steal glances at her, his heart pounding for reasons he couldnât quite name. The crowd roared, and as the final note rang out, the fourteen of them stood breathless, grinning under the stage lights.
Backstage, the wait for the winnerâs announcement felt eternal. Seventeen stood shoulder-to-shoulder with other idols on the crowded stage, Y/N wedged between Dino and Wonwoo. She fidgeted, whispering to Dino, âDo you think we have a shot? We prayed so hard, butâŚâ Her voice trailed off, her usual confidence tinged with doubt.
He nudged her gently, forcing a smile. âWe killed it, Y/N. If we donât win, the universe is broken.â
She grinned, her nerves easing, and grabbed his hand for reassurance. His breath hitched, but before he could process it, the hostâs voice boomed: âAnd the winner of this weekâs Show Champion is⌠Seventeen!â
The world slowed. Cheers erupted, confetti rained down, and Seventeen exploded into a mess of hugs and tears. Seungcheol grabbed the mic, his voice thick with emotion as he thanked their fans, Carats, whoâd believed in them from the start. Y/N, overwhelmed, turned and launched herself into Dinoâs arms, her face buried in his chest.
âWe did it, Dino-yah! We really did it!â she squealed, her voice muffled but brimming with joy. He hugged her back, his arms tightening instinctively, and for a moment, he let himself feel itâthe warmth of her, the weight of their shared dream coming true. But as she pulled away, laughing and wiping tears, that flutter in his chest twisted into something deeper, something that scared him. He was just a kid, wasnât he? This was just a crush. It had to be.
Two years later, that âcrushâ had grown into a tidal wave, and Dino was drowning. Every smile Y/N flashed, every casual touch, every late-night talk about their dreamsâit all made his feelings sharper, undeniable. He hated it. She was his bandmate, his best friend, part of the family theyâd built through sweat and tears. Confessing could ruin everythingâtheir friendship, Seventeenâs dynamic, the trust theyâd all fought for. So he did the only thing he could think of: he pushed her away.
It started subtly. One morning in their dorm, Y/N shuffled into the kitchen, expecting the usualâDino at the stove, flipping pancakes, her coffee already brewing. It was their ritual, born from trainee days when theyâd sneak breakfast together before grueling schedules. But that morning, Dino sat at the table, eating alone, his plate nearly empty.
âDino-yah, whereâs my pancakes?â Y/N asked, her tone teasing as she leaned over his shoulder. He froze, his jaw tight, and without a word, he stood, dropped his plate in the sink, and walked out. Y/N blinked, confused, as Seungkwan and Vernon exchanged a look.
âWhat was that?â Seungkwan muttered, his eyebrows shooting up.
âNo clue,â Vernon replied, glancing at Y/N, who stood frozen, her smile fading.
It didnât stop there. For a month, Dino avoided her like she was a ghost. If she entered a room, he found an excuse to leave. If she spoke to him, he answered in clipped words or not at all. During practice, he stayed on the opposite side of the formation, his eyes fixed anywhere but on her. The members noticed, whispering among themselves. Jeonghan even pulled Y/N aside one day, his voice gentle but probing.
âY/N, did something happen with you and Dino? Heâs acting⌠weird,â he said, his brows furrowed with concern.
Y/Nâs face fell, her frustration bubbling over. âI donât know, oppa! I didnât do anything! Why does everyone think I messed this up? Am I that awful?â Her voice cracked, and Jeonghan quickly backtracked, assuring her it wasnât her fault. But the doubt lingered, and Y/Nâs usual spark dimmed, her pouty frown a constant fixture.
The members tried talking to Dino too. Joshua cornered him after practice, his tone calm but firm. âChan, whatâs going on with you and Y/N? Youâre freaking her out.â
Dino shrugged, his expression blank. âNothingâs going on. Just busy.â But inside, he was screaming. Avoiding Y/N wasnât helpingâit was making everything worse. Seeing her sad, her eyes searching for him only to meet his cold shoulder, felt like a knife in his chest. He missed herâher chaos, her laugh, the way sheâd drag him into her ridiculous plans. He was hurting her, and it was killing him.
Finally, he couldnât take it anymore. One evening, after a long practice, he found Y/N in the dormâs common room, curled up on the couch with a manga she wasnât really reading. Her face was set in a stubborn scowl, and when he sat beside her, she pointedly turned away.
âY/N,â he started, his voice soft. âIâm sorry.â
She didnât look at him. âFor what? Ignoring me for a month? Making me feel like I did something wrong?â Her voice was sharp, but it wavered, betraying her hurt.
He winced, guilt twisting his gut. âI⌠I didnât mean to hurt you. I just⌠needed space.â
âSpace?â She whipped around, her eyes blazing. âWeâve been glued together since we were trainees, Dino! You donât just âneed spaceâ out of nowhere! Why wonât you tell me what I did?â
He opened his mouth, but the truthâIâm in love with you, and Iâm terrifiedâstuck in his throat. Instead, he pulled a small paper bag from behind his back, offering it to her. Inside was her favorite ramyeon and a pint of her beloved ice cream.
âI donât know how to explain it,â he admitted, his voice barely above a whisper. âBut Iâm really sorry, Y/N. Can we⌠go back to how things were?â
She stared at the bag, then at him, her scowl softening but not gone. âYouâre lucky I canât stay mad at you,â she muttered, snatching the bag. âBut you owe me pancakes tomorrow. And you better not pull this crap again.â
He nodded, relief washing over him as she cracked a small smile. But deep down, he knew this wasnât over. His feelings werenât going away, and no amount of ramyeon or apologies could change that. For now, heâd settle for her forgiveness, but the ache in his heart was only growing stronger.
Seventeen had come a long way since their scrappy debut days. Years have passed, they become a household name, their music topping charts, their faces plastered on billboards, and their bond stronger than ever. The members had spread their wings, some choosing to live independently while others paired upâJeonghan and Seungkwan sharing a cozy apartment, Mingyu and Wonwoo bickering over whoâd cook dinner in theirs. Y/N, ever the free spirit, had opted for her own place, a small but vibrant apartment filled with plants and mismatched furniture that screamed her personality. Yet, despite the physical distance, her connection with Dino remained unshakable, a tether that no amount of fame or time could break.
Their closeness was a constantâlate-night video calls when Y/N got a wild urge to explore the city, or her whining texts for Dino to bring her snacks when she was under the weather. No matter how exhausting his day, Dino always answered. Heâd drive across Seoul at 3 am if she asked, cook her favorite ramyeon when she was sick, or pick up whatever bizarre craving she had, all while grumbling playfully. It was their rhythm, carved out from trainee days and polished by years of shared dreams and chaos.
Tonight was no exception. It was 2 am, and Y/N was tipsy, her laughter echoing through a quiet alley as she stumbled out of a bar with her friends. Her phone was already in her hand, Dinoâs number on speed dial. The call connected after a single ring, and she giggled into the receiver.
âDo you just sit by your phone waiting for me?â she teased, her voice slurring slightly, playful and warm.
On the other end, Dino rolled his eyes, leaning back on his couch, his game paused on the screen. âPlease, Y/N, I was in the middle of crushing it in Overwatch. Youâre ruining my streak.â A lie, of course. Heâd been scrolling aimlessly, half-expecting her text from earlierâGoing out with friends, might need a ride laterâto turn into this exact call. Heâd never admit heâd been waiting, though.
âWhatever, loser,â she shot back, her grin audible. âIâm sending you my location. My feet are dying in these heels.â
âYou and your terrible shoe choices,â he muttered, already grabbing his keys and jacket. âStay put. Iâm coming.â
True to his word, Dino pulled up in record time, his car a familiar sight as it rolled to a stop outside the bar. Y/N stood under a streetlight, swaying slightly, her sparkly dress catching the light. Her friends waved at him, their knowing smiles not lost on himâthose sly glances that said they saw right through his âjust friendsâ act. He ignored them, stepping out to drape his spare jacket over Y/Nâs shoulders.
âUgh, these heels are the worst,â she whined, pouting as she leaned against him for balance. âMy feet hate me.â
âYou say that every time,â he replied, his tone fond but exasperated. He opened the passenger door, and as Y/N said her goodbyes to her friends, he grabbed the pink slippers he kept in the backseat just for her. She had a habit of wearing impractical heels, only to beg for her comfy backup pair by the end of the night.
Y/Nâs face lit up as she slipped them on, sighing in relief. âYouâre a lifesaver, Dino-yah.â She climbed into the car, immediately launching into a tipsy recount of her nightâher friendsâ bad karaoke, the spicy tteokbokki theyâd shared, the guy whoâd tried to flirt with her until she âaccidentallyâ spilled her drink on him. Dino listened, his eyes on the road, a soft smile tugging at his lips. He loved thisâher unfiltered chatter, the way sheâd ramble to him about everything and nothing, even after a day packed with group schedules or her solo gigs. It was their thing, a ritual that felt like home.
But then, out of nowhere, she went quiet. He glanced over, catching her staring at him, her head tilted, eyes glassy but curious. âChan,â she said, her voice softer, almost serious despite her tipsy haze. âWhy are you so nice to me? Like, all the time?â
His hands tightened on the steering wheel, his heart stuttering. The question hung heavy, her gaze pinning him in place. He wanted to say itâBecause Iâm in love with you, and Iâve been in love with you since we were kids chasing dreams in a sweaty practice room. But the words lodged in his throat, too big, too risky. What if she laughed it off? What if she pulled away, like heâd feared back when he tried avoiding her in 2018?
That month of distance still haunted him. Heâd thought ignoring her would kill his feelings, but it only made him ache more. Her hurt, her confusion, the way sheâd snapped at Jeonghan for suggesting sheâd done something wrongâit had torn him apart. He couldnât bear the thought of losing her again, not when she was woven so deeply into his life.
Before he could muster an answer, Y/Nâs eyes lit up, spotting something through his window. âOh! Convenience store! Dino, I want ice cream!â Her voice was bright again, the serious moment gone as fast as it came. She flashed him that smileâthe one that made his resolve crumble every time, the one that said she knew heâd give in.
He sighed, pulling into the storeâs parking lot. âYouâre gonna owe me big time, Y/N.â
âAdd it to my tab,â she quipped, already unbuckling her seatbelt.
As they walked into the brightly lit store, Y/N looping her arm through his like it was nothing, Dino felt that familiar ache settle deeper. Heâd buy her the ice cream, drive her home, listen to her ramble until she fell asleep in his passenger seat. Heâd keep being her person, her late-night savior, her best friend. But every step beside her, every laugh she shared, made it harder to pretend that was enough.
Back in the car, Y/N happily licked her ice cream, oblivious to the storm in his heart. âYouâre the best, Lee Chan,â she mumbled between bites, leaning her head against the window, her slippers kicked off and her legs tucked under his jacket.
He glanced at her, his chest tight. âYeah, yeah. Just donât get any ice cream on my seats.â
But as she giggled, her voice fading into sleepy murmurs, he knew he was hopeless. No matter how many late-night drives or ice cream runs, he couldnât outrun his feelings. He was in too deep, and Y/Nâoblivious, chaotic, perfect Y/Nâwas the only one who didnât see it.
an: Dino is such boyfriend material, I canât even handle it! Heâs got this vibe just screaming green flag energy, like, ugh, Iâm so in love with him!

HEYYYY i love your writing and how you always write so fast hihi btw i was wondering if you could do yn as the quiet 14th member of seventeen and how she always gets picked on by host whenever seventeen appears on tv show because of how quiet she is but before any of the member can defend her she replied to the host in the most sassy way possible??? and from that day she turns into a mini minghao hihi thank youuuu and take care đЎ
Title: Blossoming in Silence
Masterlist
Seventeenâs shy maknae, evolves from a quiet, blushing observer to a sassy force under Minghaoâs guidance.
Pairing: Seventeen x 14th member
Genre: Fluff
The members sprawled across couches and chairs, waiting for their producer, Bumzu, to arrive. The room hummed with the usual banterâJeonghan teasing Mingyu about his latest cooking disaster, Woozi scribbling notes on a pad, and Dino trying to convince Hoshi to join him in a TikTok dance challenge. Amid the lively chatter, Y/N, the groupâs beloved maknae, was in a rare mood. She was usually the quiet one, her shy nature painting her as the soft-spoken shadow who preferred observing over speaking. But today, she was a burst of energy, clinging to Seungcheolâs arm as she animatedly shared a story about her favorite stray cat.
Y/N had always been reserved. When she joined Seventeen, fresh from the trainee life, her wide-eyed silence made her seem like a fragile porcelain doll. Sheâd answer questions with a nod or a whispered word, her cheeks flaming red if anyone teased her too much. The members quickly learned she wasnât distantâjust painfully shy. They adored her for it. To them, Y/N was their baby sister, a treasure they protected fiercely. Theyâd melt whenever she spoke, hanging onto her rare words like they were precious gems. Publicly, they kept their teasing gentle, never wanting to push her past her comfort zone. But in private? Thatâs when the playful chaos unfoldedâpoking at her blushing cheeks, ruffling her hair, and laughing when sheâd squeak in protest.
Her clinginess was even rarer. Y/N usually kept to herself, maybe curling up next to Joshua with a book or hovering near Wonwoo during practice. But on days like today, when something sparked her excitement, sheâd latch onto someoneâtodayâs victim being Seungcheolâand the members would watch with heart-eyes, soaking in her fleeting openness.
âCheollie oppa, you shouldâve seen her!â Y/Nâs voice bubbled as she tugged Seungcheolâs sleeve, her eyes sparkling. âMimiâthatâs what I named the catâshe was so brave! She had four kittens, and theyâre so tiny, like little fluff balls!â
Seungcheol grinned, his dimples deepening as he leaned closer, nodding like her story was the most important thing in the world. âFour kittens, huh? Mimiâs a superstar. Did you name them yet?â
Y/Nâs cheeks pinked, but she didnât shy away. âNot yet, but I was thinking maybe⌠Cloud, Pancake, cheesecake, and⌠um, maybe Cookie? I donât know!â She giggled, hiding her face briefly in Seungcheolâs shoulder.
Across the room, Vernon raised an eyebrow, smirking. âCookie? Y/N, youâre gonna turn our dorm into a bakery with these names.â
The group chuckled, and Y/Nâs blush deepened, but she didnât retreat. Instead, she stuck out her tongue at Vernon, a rare playful jab. âBetter than your idea to name a dog âDogâ last week!â
The room erupted in laughter, Vernon clutching his chest dramatically. âYo, that was a concept! Youâre savage today, maknae!â
Jeonghan, lounging on a beanbag, propped his chin on his hand, eyes glinting mischievously. âI like this Y/N. Clingy and sassy. Cheol, whatâd you feed her this morning?â
Seungcheol chuckled, wrapping an arm around Y/N protectively. âNothing! Sheâs just excited about her cat family. Right, Y/N?â
âMhm!â Y/N nodded vigorously, her ponytail bouncing. âTheyâre living outside our dorm, but I bring them food and treats every day. Mimi trusts me nowâshe lets me pet her! But the kittens need a real home. I was thinking⌠maybe I could buy them a little cat house? Or find someone to adopt them?â
Woozi looked up from his notebook, his serious producer face softening. âA cat house? Thatâs ambitious. You gonna build it yourself, kid?â
Y/Nâs eyes widened, and she waved her hands frantically. âNo, no! I meant, like, buy one! Iâm not that handy!â
Mingyu snorted, leaning forward with a teasing grin. âOh, come on, Y/N. I bet you and Wonwoo could make a cat mansion. Right, Wonwoo?â
Wonwoo, whoâd been quietly sipping coffee, glanced up with a small smile. âLeave me out of this. But Y/N, youâre doing good with those cats. Theyâre lucky to have you.â
Y/N beamed at the praise, her shY/Ness creeping back just enough to make her duck her head. âThanks, Wonu oppaâŚâ
Hoshi, bouncing in his seat, clapped his hands. âOkay, but imagine! We adopt all the kittens, and they become Seventeenâs official mascots! Picture it: tiny cats in little carat-colored sweaters!â
âHoshi, no!â Joshua laughed, shaking his head. âWe can barely keep up with you in the dorm. Donât add cats to the chaos.â
âBut theyâd be so cute!â Hoshi whined, turning to Y/N. âBack me up, Y/N! You want the kittens in sweaters, right?â
Y/N giggled, her fingers twisting in Seungcheolâs sleeve. âMaybe⌠just one sweater? For Cookie?â
The room cooed in unison, the members melting at her soft admission. DK leaned over, ruffling her hair gently. âYouâre too cute, Y/N. Weâre gonna have to fight over who gets to adopt Cookie now.â
âNo fighting!â Y/N squeaked, her voice half-laugh, half-protest. âThey need nice homes, not a wrestling match!â
Seungkwan, whoâd been scrolling on his phone, looked up with a grin. âY/N, youâre practically their mom already. You sure youâre ready to give them up?â
Y/N paused, her excitement dimming for a moment as she thought it over. âI⌠I want them to be safe. Even if it means I canât keep them. But Iâll miss them a lotâŚâ
The room softened, the teasing energy giving way to warmth. Seungcheol squeezed her shoulder gently. âYouâre doing the right thing, Y/N. Weâll help you find them good homes, okay? No oneâs better at taking care of others than you.â
Y/N smiled shyly, leaning into him. âThanks, oppa⌠You guys are the best.â
Dino, whoâd been unusually quiet, piped up with a playful smirk. âYeah, weâre the bestâuntil you start yapping about cats again and we all turn into your personal audience!â
âYah!â Y/N huffed, tossing a crumpled tissue at him, her blush returning full force as the room burst into laughter again.
As the teasing resumed, Y/N settled back against Seungcheol, her rare chatter fading into a content smile. The members kept stealing glances at her, their baby sister who could light up the room with just a few words. They wouldnât trade these momentsâor herâfor anything.
Over the next month, Y/Nâs quiet presence found a new anchor in Seventeenâs Xu Minghao. While Y/Nâs shyness wrapped her in a soft, blushing cocoon, Minghaoâs silence was a different beastâsharp, deliberate, and laced with a sassy edge that could cut through any nonsense with a single deadpan quip. Her rare bursts of chatter treasured like gold. But lately, the members noticed her gravitating toward Minghao, the one whose quiet wasnât timid but commanding, like a cat that didnât need to roar to make you feel small.
It started subtly. During practice breaks, Y/N would plop down beside Minghao, her knees tucked up as she sipped from a water bottle, listening intently as he critiqued a dance move or tossed a dry remark at Hoshiâs over-the-top antics. Minghao, for his part, seemed to welcome her company. Heâd always been fond of Y/N, charmed by her gentle nature, but he never pushed her to talk. Instead, heâd offer a calm space where she could just be. Soon, she was trailing him like a shy shadow, and the members couldnât help but notice.
One afternoon, Minghao invited Y/N to a tea ceremony heâd set up in a quiet corner of their dorm. It was a ritual he cherishedâporcelain cups, steaming water, and the slow art of brewing loose leaves. Y/N, curious and a little nervous, sat cross-legged across from him, her hands fidgeting.
âOppa, am I doing this right?â she asked, her voice barely above a whisper as she held a teacup with both hands, mimicking his careful grip.
Minghaoâs lips quirked, his eyes glinting with that signature sharpness. âYouâre holding it like itâs a grenade, Y/N. Relax. The teaâs not gonna bite.â
She giggled, her cheeks pinking, but she loosened her grip, watching as he poured another round with practiced grace. âItâs so⌠fancy. I thought tea was just, like, a bag in hot water.â
He raised an eyebrow, his tone dry as desert sand. âA bag? Y/N, thatâs not tea. Thatâs an insult to civilization.â
Y/N laughed, a soft, bubbling sound that made Minghaoâs stern facade crack into a small smile. âOkay, okay! I get it. This is better. It smells nice too.â
âTold you,â he said, leaning back with his own cup. âStick with me, kid. Iâll teach you how to live with taste.â
The tea ceremonies became their thing. Every few days, Minghao would set up his little setup, and Y/N would join, her shY/Ness melting as she learned to appreciate the bitter-sweet notes of oolong and the calm of the ritual. Sometimes, heâd coax her into meditation afterward, guiding her to sit still and breathe deeply. Sheâd squirm at first, peeking at him through half-closed eyes, but his steady presence kept her grounded.
âHao oppa, how do you sit so still?â she mumbled once, her legs already twitching five minutes into a session. âI feel like ants are crawling on me.â
He didnât even open his eyes, his voice flat but teasing. âThatâs just your brain throwing a tantrum. Tell it to shut up and breathe.â
âRude!â she huffed, but she tried again, biting back a smile. His bluntness was oddly comfortingâno sugarcoating, just truth with a side of sass.
The other members, however, werenât entirely thrilled. Theyâd catch glimpses of Y/N and Minghao sipping tea or meditating in the dormâs common room, and jealous glances would fly. During one practice, Seungcheol nudged Jeonghan, nodding toward the pair sitting cross-legged on the floor, Y/N giggling at something Minghao said.
Jeonghan smirked, but his eyes narrowed. âHeâs got her drinking tea now. Tea! She used to beg me for strawberry milk.â
Across the room, Hoshi pouted, his voice louder than necessary. âY/N! Youâre not gonna start wearing all black and quoting poetry like Hao, are you?â
Y/Nâs head snapped up, her face flaming. âOppa, no! I just⌠I like the tea, okay?â
Minghao didnât even look at Hoshi, sipping his water with a smug air. âSheâs got better taste than you, Hoshi. Let her live.â
âYah!â Hoshi clutched his chest, feigning betrayal, while the others laughed. âY/N, blink twice if heâs brainwashing you!â
âIâm fine!â Y/N squeaked, burying her face in her hands, though her muffled giggles gave her away.
DK leaned toward Joshua, whispering, âYou think Haoâs teaching her to be all zen? I miss her clinging to Cheol and yapping about cats.â
Joshua chuckled, shaking his head. âNah, sheâs still our Y/N. Sheâs just⌠borrowing Haoâs vibe for a bit.â
The jealousy was playful, mostly. The members knew Minghao wasnât stealing herâtheyâd seen how Y/N still lit up during group dinners, blushing when Vernon teased her or clinging to Seungcheol when she was tired. But Minghaoâs quiet pull had unlocked something new in her. She wasnât just the shy maknae anymore; she was starting to carry a hint of his confidence, even if it was just in the way sheâd sip tea and roll her eyes when Dino tried to prank her.
One evening, during a rare group movie night, Y/N curled up on the couch next to Minghao, a mug of chamomile in her handsâa gift from him. The members kept sneaking glances, their protective instincts tinged with amusement. Woozi finally broke the silence, his tone teasing but warm.
âY/N, youâre a tea snob now, huh?â he called out, smirking. âWhat happened to our juice-box maknae?â
Y/N stuck out her tongue, a spark of Minghaoâs sass in her eyes. âJuice is for babies, oppa. Teaâs classy.â
The room exploded in mock gasps, Mingyu clutching his heart. âSheâs gone full Hao! Weâve lost her!â
Minghao just smirked, nudging Y/Nâs shoulder. âTold you, kid. Stick with me, and youâll run this place someday.â
âHao oppa, stop!â Y/N laughed, swatting him, her blush returning but her smile brighter than ever.
As the movie played on, the members settled down, their jealousy fading into fondness. Y/N was still their baby sister, shy and sweet, but watching her bloom a little under Minghaoâs wing? That was something they could all cheer forâeven if theyâd never admit it out loud.
The studio lights blazed down on Seventeen as they sat in a colorful, semicircular setup for a variety show, their latest comeback promotion in full swing. The set buzzed with energyâbright backdrops, a live audience cheering, and a host known for his bold, sometimes chaotic style. The thirteen members, plus their cherished maknae Y/N, were decked out in coordinated outfits, their new albumâs aesthetic shining through. Y/N sat at the back corner, her hands folded neatly in her lap, a shy smile playing on her lips. She was quieter than usual, her wide eyes taking in the whirlwind of questions and laughter around her.
The host, a middle-aged man with a flashy suit and a penchant for stirring the pot, had been lobbing questions at the group for the past twenty minutes. Most were standardâdetails about the albumâs concept, funny behind-the-scenes stories, or who was the messiest in the dorm (Vernon and Hoshi took that hit with a sheepish grin). The members were in their element, with Seungcheol leading the answers, Jeonghan tossing witty remarks, and Hoshi stealing the spotlight with exaggerated reenactments of their choreography fails. Y/N, though, stayed silent, giggling softly at her membersâ antics but keeping her words to herself. It wasnât unusualâher shy nature often made her the quiet observer in public settings, and the members were used to shielding her from too much attention.
But the host noticed her silence, his eyes zeroing in on Y/N like a hawk spotting prey. He leaned forward, his grin a little too sharp, and the mood in the room shifted subtly.
âSo, Y/N,â he began, his voice carrying a teasing lilt, âyouâve been awfully quiet back there. Are you always this shy, or are you just saving your voice for something big?â
The audience chuckled, and Y/Nâs cheeks flushed pink. She gave a small nod, her voice soft but steady. âIâm just⌠listening, sunbaenim. The members are doing a great job answering.â
Seungcheol shot her a reassuring smile from the front row, and Joshua nodded encouragingly. The members were ready to pivot the conversation, but the host wasnât done. He leaned back, tapping his chin as if deep in thought, his eyes glinting mischievously.
âListening, huh? Thatâs cute. But come on, youâre the maknae of Seventeen! Surely youâve got some wild stories. Maybe⌠a secret crush among the members?â He winked at the audience, who erupted in gasps and giggles.
The air tensed instantly. Y/Nâs eyes widened, her blush deepening, and the membersâ smiles faltered. Jeonghanâs jaw tightened, and Vernonâs hand twitched like he was ready to grab a mic and shut it down. Theyâd dealt with pushy hosts before, but this was crossing a lineâespecially with Y/N, who they protected like a little sister. Seungcheol opened his mouth to steer things back, but the host barreled on, oblivious or uncaring.
âOr maybe,â he continued, his tone growing bolder, âyouâre so quiet because youâre overwhelmed by all these handsome guys, huh? Whoâs your type, Y/N? Give us a hint!â
The audience laughed again, but it was strained now. Wooziâs eyes narrowed, and Hoshiâs usual grin was gone, replaced by a hard stare. Mingyu leaned forward, his knuckles white against his knee, while DK whispered something to Dino, who looked ready to leap out of his seat. Theyâd stayed silent to keep things professional, but this was too farâY/N didnât deserve to be cornered like this.
Before any of them could snap, Y/N sat up straighter, her shy demeanor shifting. Her eyes, usually soft and hesitant, glinted with something newâsomething sharp, borrowed straight from the Minghao school of sass. She tilted her head, her lips curving into a smile that was polite but laced with venom. The room seemed to hold its breath.
âMy type, sunbaenim?â she said, her voice clear and deceptively sweet. âWell, I like people who ask interesting questions. You know, ones that donât make everyone in the room cringe.â
The audience gasped, then burst into laughter, louder than before. The host blinked, caught off guard, his grin faltering. The members froze, their eyes darting to Y/N in a mix of shock and delight. Minghao, seated a few spots away, leaned back with a smug smirk, his arms crossed like a proud mentor watching his protĂŠgĂŠ shine.
The host tried to recover, chuckling awkwardly. âOh, feisty! Okay, okay, Iâll bite. Whatâs an interesting question then, Y/N? Educate me.â
Y/N didnât miss a beat, her tone dripping with the same deadpan sarcasm Minghao wielded like a blade. âMaybe ask about our album? Since, you know, thatâs why weâre here. Or do you only care about gossip that doesnât exist?â
The audience roared, clapping wildly, and the members couldnât hold it in anymore. Vernon muffled a laugh behind his hand, his shoulders shaking. Seungkwan bit his lip to keep from cackling, while Jeonghan leaned toward Joshua, whispering, âSheâs wrecking him.â
The hostâs face reddened, but he pressed on, clearly underestimating the maknae. âAlright, fair enough! But come on, Y/N, youâre so mysterious. Gotta give us something. Whatâs it like being the only girl in Seventeen? Ever feel like youâre in over your head?â
It was another jab, thinly veiled as curiosity, and the membersâ patience snapped. Seungcheolâs hand clenched into a fist, and Woozi was half a second from cutting in with something sharp. But Y/N was already leaning forward, her smile now a full-on weapon, her voice steady and laced with sarcasm so precise it couldâve been scripted by Minghao himself.
âIn over my head?â she repeated, raising an eyebrow. âSunbaenim, Iâm surrounded by thirteen guys who canât find their socks without me. If anyoneâs in over their head, itâs them. But sure, tell me more about how Iâm the one struggling.â
The studio eruptedâaudience screaming, staff stifling laughs, and the members losing it. Hoshi slapped Mingyuâs arm, wheezing, âSheâs killing him!â DK was doubled over, clutching Joshua for support, while Dino pumped his fist like he was at a concert. âThatâs our maknae!â he shouted, barely audible over the chaos.
Minghaoâs smirk widened, his eyes glinting with pride. He leaned toward Wonwoo, muttering, âTold you sheâs got it. Thatâs my work right there.â
Wonwoo snorted, shaking his head. âYou created a monster, Hao.â
The host, now visibly flustered, raised his hands in surrender, his cocky demeanor crumbling. âOkay, okay, Y/N! You win! Iâll stick to the album questions from now on, promise!â
Y/N leaned back, her sass fading into her usual shy smile, though her eyes still sparkled with mischief. âGood idea, sunbaenim. Weâve got a lot to say about the music.â
Seungcheol finally stepped in, his tone firm but warm, redirecting the conversation like the leader he was. âSpeaking of the album, we poured a lot into this comeback. Y/N actually had some great ideas for the choreographyâmaybe we can talk about that?â
The host latched onto the lifeline, pivoting to safer ground, and the interview continued smoothly. But the members couldnât stop stealing glances at Y/N, their quiet maknae whoâd just turned the tables with a few razor-sharp words. Vernon leaned over during a break, grinning. âY/N, where was that hiding? Youâre scary when you want to be.â
She ducked her head, her blush returning. âI just⌠didnât like his questions. They were mean.â
Jeonghan ruffled her hair, chuckling. âMean or not, you handled it like a pro. We were ready to jump him, but you didnât need us.â
âYeah, but donât make a habit of it,â Seungkwan teased, pointing at her. âWeâre supposed to be the ones defending you, not the other way around!â
Y/N giggled, her shyness creeping back, but Minghao caught her eye from across the set. He gave her a subtle nod, his smirk saying it all: Thatâs my girl. She smiled back, a little prouder, a little bolder, knowing her members had her backâand that she could hold her own when it mattered.
As the show wrapped, the members crowded around her backstage, their protective energy mixed with awe. Hoshi slung an arm around her shoulders, grinning. âY/N, youâre our secret weapon now. Next comeback, youâre answering all the questions!â
âNo way!â she protested, hiding her face in her hands, but her laughter gave her away.
Minghao watched from the side, his smugness softening into something warmer. Heâd taught her to stand tall in her own quiet way, and today, sheâd shown the worldâand the hostâwhat Seventeenâs maknae was made of. The members might tease her later, might bicker over who got to claim credit for her newfound fire, but one thing was clear: Y/N was their baby sister, shy but unstoppable, and they wouldnât have her any other way.
A year had passed since the infamous variety show interview, and the internet hadnât forgotten. Clips of Y/Nâs razor-sharp takedown of the host had resurfaced, trending across platforms with fans dubbing her âThe8âs girl versionâ and âLittle The8.â The comments sections buzzed with praiseââShe roasted him so politely, Iâm in awe!â and âProtect Y/N at all costs, but also, she doesnât need it!â The outrage over the hostâs inappropriate questions, especially toward an underage girl, had cemented SEVENTEENâs decision: theyâd never work with that show again. More importantly, Y/N, had grown into her ownâa quiet firecracker who carried Minghaoâs sass like a second skin, much to her membersâ delight.
The dorm, life was louder and livelier with Y/Nâs evolution. She was still their shy maknae, blushing at compliments and hiding behind Seungcheol during chaotic moments, but her newfound confidence shone through. Where she once stayed silent during interviews, she now answered with a blend of politeness and biting wit, her words so effortlessly sharp they left hosts scrambling to keep up. The members loved it, often leaning back with grins as she handled nosy questions with the grace of a diplomat and the sting of a wasp.
During a recent radio interview to promote their latest mini-album, the host had asked about their group dY/Namics, then turned to Y/N with a playful but pointed question. âY/N, youâre surrounded by thirteen talented guys. Ever get tired of being the baby? Or do they spoil you too much?â
Y/N tilted her head, her smile sweet but her eyes glinting with mischief. âSpoil me? Sunbaenim, they can barely keep up with me. Iâm the one reminding Mingyu oppa where he parked his car last week.â
The studio erupted in laughter, Mingyu clutching his chest in mock offense. âYah, Y/N! That was one time!â
âOne time too many,â she shot back, her voice light but her smirk pure Minghao. The host chuckled, clearly impressed, and the members exchanged proud glances. Seungcheol leaned toward Jeonghan, muttering, âSheâs unstoppable now.â
Back at the dorm, Y/Nâs sass wasnât reserved for interviews. The members, whoâd always teased her for her quick blushes, now faced a maknae who fought backâcutely, of course, but with enough bite to keep them on their toes. One evening, as they lounged in the living room debating takeout options, Hoshi decided to poke the bear.
âY/N, youâre so quiet tonight,â he teased, grinning. âWhatâs wrong? Missing your stray cats again?â
Y/N, curled up on the couch with a mug of tea (a Minghao habit sheâd fully embraced), rolled her eyes. âHoshi oppa, Iâm quiet because Iâm trying to save my energy for when you inevitably try to dance on the table later.â
The room howled, Hoshi gasping dramatically. âExcuse me? Iâm a professional, maknae!â
âProfessionally chaotic,â she muttered, sipping her tea with a pointed look. Minghao, sitting nearby, snorted, giving her a subtle fist bump. âThatâs my girl.â
Dino piled on, smirking. âSheâs got you there, hyung. Y/Nâs out here reading us like a book now.â
Y/N stuck out her tongue, but her cheeks pinked, a hint of the old shy girl peeking through. âYou guys started it! Always teasing me. I learned from the best, though.â She pointed accusingly at Minghao, who raised his hands innocently.
âDonât blame me,â he said, his tone dry but his eyes warm. âYou were a diamond in the rough. I just polished you up.â
The teasing continued, but it was different nowâless one-sided, more like a game they all played. Y/Nâs comebacks were never mean, always delivered with a pout or a giggle that softened the blow, and the members couldnât get enough. Still, sometimes sheâd catch them looking at her with mock nostalgia, sighing about the âold Y/Nâ whoâd just blush and hide.
One night, after a particularly lively practice session, the group sprawled across the studio floor, catching their breath. Vernon, ever the instigator, tossed a water bottle her way and grinned. âY/N, remember when youâd turn red if we even looked at you? What happened to that kid?â
Y/N caught the bottle, narrowing her eyes playfully. âShe grew up, oppa. Thanks to you all bullying me into it.â
âBullying?!â Seungkwan gasped, clutching his heart. âWe cherished you!â
âCherished me into a corner,â she shot back, crossing her arms. âNow I fight back, and you complain? Make up your minds!â
The group laughed, but Y/Nâs pout deepened, her voice dropping to a softer tone. âWhat, donât you like the new me? I thought you wanted me to be toughâŚâ
The shift was instant. Seungcheol sat up, his leader instincts kicking in, and pulled her into a side hug. âAre you kidding? We love the new you. Old you, new you, sassy youâwe love all of you.â
Joshua nodded, ruffling her hair. âYeah, youâre still our Y/N. Just with a little extra spice now.â
DK piled on, wrapping her in a bear hug from the other side. âYouâre like⌠a cute chili pepper! Tiny but with a kick!â
âA chili pepper?!â Y/N squeaked, laughing despite herself, her pout melting away. âThatâs so bad, oppa!â
Minghao watched from the sidelines, his usual smirk softened by fondness. âTheyâre right, you know. Youâre still you. Just⌠you with better comebacks.â
She stuck her tongue out at him, but her eyes sparkled. âThis is your fault, Hao oppa. You turned me into a mini you!â
âGuilty,â he said, shrugging unapologetically. âBut you wear it well.â
The group piled into a chaotic group hug, Y/N squished in the middle, her laughter muffled as she protested, âI canât breathe, you weirdos!â
As they pulled back, Woozi caught her eye, his tone serious but warm. âFor real, Y/N. We love the sass. Itâs good you can hold your own now. But you know weâre always here, right? Sassy or not, youâre our maknae.â
Y/N nodded, her smile shy but genuine. âI know, oppa. Thanks⌠for everything.â
Later, as they headed back to the dorm, Y/N walked between Minghao and Jeonghan, her tea mug tucked into her bag and her heart full. The resurfaced clips online, the âLittle Minghaoâ nickname, the pride in her membersâ eyesâit all reminded her how far sheâd come. She was still their shy baby sister, but now she had a voice, a spark, a way to stand tall when the world got too loud. And whether she was roasting a host or pouting for hugs, her thirteen protectors would always be there, cheering for every version of her.

The promotion shoot wrapped up, and the energy in the room plummeted. The boys, once a whirlwind of noise, were now a mix of exhaustionâsome slouched in chairs, eyes half-closed, while others shuffled off to change out of their stage outfits. Y/N stood at her station, quietly packing her makeup brushes and palettes, her hands moving on autopilot. Her assistant, Minji, hovered beside her, whispering like a conspiratorial gremlin.
âSo, Seungkwan totally knows,â Minji hissed, nudging her elbow. âDid you see his face? He was all smiley! Youâre doomed!â
âShh!â Y/N whispered back, cheeks flaring. âHe doesnât know anything! Stop making it weird!â
âOh, itâs already weird,â Minji teased, stacking compacts. âHe called you tangerine fairy! Everyone heard it!â
âMinji, I will throw this sponge at you,â Y/N muttered, shoving brushes into her bag. Just finish packing and get out. No drama. Noâ
A shadow loomed beside her. She turned, and there was Seungkwan, popping up like a jack-in-the-box, his grin wide and bright despite the long day. Y/N froze, feeling the weight of a dozen pairs of eyesâJeonghanâs smirk, Hoshiâs barely-contained giggle, Wonwooâs quiet stare. It was like a rom-com scene, and she was the unwilling lead.
âHi,â Seungkwan said, leaning casually against the table. âSo⌠youâre my tangerine fairy who suddenly disappeared, huh?â
Her heart did a backflip. âW-What?!â she squeaked, clutching a makeup wipe like a lifeline. âIâI meanâhi! Uh, no, Iâm just⌠me!â
He laughed, soft and warm, tilting his head. âCome on, Y/N. The tangerines? The doodles? âItâs from Jejuâ? Youâre not fooling anyone.â
Minji snorted behind her, and Y/N shot her a death glare before turning back. âI⌠um⌠okay, maybe I used to do that! But it was forever ago! I didnât think youâd remember!â
âRemember?â Seungkwanâs eyes sparkled. âHow could I not? Those tangerines were the best part of my day! Iâd sit down, see a smiley face, and boomâhappy Seungkwan!â
Her cheeks were on fire. âR-Really?â she mumbled, twisting the wipe in her hands. âI just⌠thought you liked them. I didnât mean to⌠disappear or anything!â
âYeah, you left me hanging!â he teased, crossing his arms. âOne day, no more tangerines, no more shy girl in the back. I was worried, you know!â
âWorried?!â she yelped, eyes wide. âAbout me? I was just⌠quiet! You were the star!â
âAnd you were my secret cheerleader,â he said, grinning. âI even went to your grandparentsâ house with a tangerine to check on you!â
Her jaw dropped. âYou what?!â
From across the room, Jeonghan piped up, âOh, he did! Came back with your sketchbook and everything!â
âHyung!â Seungkwan whirled, pointing at him. âStop helping!â
Y/Nâs brain short-circuited. âSketchbook?! Youâyou have my drawings?!â
âYup!â Seungkwan turned back, sheepish now. âThe one with me on stage, stars, tangerine crowd? Itâs still on my wall. Kept me going through trainee days.â
She wanted to melt into the floor. âOh my gosh,â she whispered, hiding her face. âThatâs so embarrassing!â
âNo, itâs awesome!â he said, laughing. âYou believed in me before I even debuted! And now youâre here, still giving me tangerines!â
Minji leaned in, whispering, âTold youâdoomed!â
âMinji, hush!â Y/N hissed, then forced a shaky smile at Seungkwan. âI⌠Iâm glad you liked them. I didnât think they mattered that much!â
âThey did,â he said softly, picking up a âYouâre my star!â tangerine from her basket. âStill do. So⌠no more disappearing, okay?â
Her heart skipped. âO-Okay,â she stammered, nodding. âNo disappearing.â
âGood,â he said, pocketing the tangerine. âMaybe next time, we can talk over some Jeju oranges? You know, catch up properly?â
The room eruptedâHoshi whooping, DK clapping, Jeonghan cackling. Y/Nâs face was a furnace, but she managed a tiny, âS-Sure!â
âSeungkwan, stop!â she laughed, finally relaxing a little. The boys kept teasing, but for once, she didnât mind. Maybe being found wasnât so bad after all.
Weeks had slipped by since that heart-pounding moment at the shoot, and Y/N hadnât crossed paths with Seungkwan again. Seventeenâs packed schedulesâperformances, interviews, fan eventsâkept him on a whirlwind, while Y/N drowned in her own sea of foundation brushes and glittery eyeshadows, dolling up idols left and right. The memory of Seungkwanâs grin and that âno more disappearingâ promise lingered, but life had a way of keeping them apart.
At her apartment, Y/N doodled absentmindedly on a tangerineââKeep going!ââwhile Jiwoo lounged on the couch, scrolling her phone. âSo,â Jiwoo said, smirking, âwhatâs the update on your tangerine prince? Any juicy texts yet?â
âLame,â Jiwoo teased, tossing a cushion at her. âHe asked you to catch up over oranges! Thatâs, like, a date invite! Why hasnât he called?â
âBecause heâs an idol?â Y/N said, catching the cushion. âAnd Iâm just⌠me? Maybe he forgot. Itâs been weeks!â
âForgot?!â Jiwoo sat up, dramatic. âGirl, heâs got your sketch on his wall! Youâre unforgettable!â
âStop it!â Y/N groaned, hiding her face. âItâs not like that! He was just being nice!â
âNice, my foot,â Jiwoo snorted. âHeâs into you. Bet heâs just too chicken to text.â
Meanwhile, across town in Seventeenâs practice room, Seungkwan was mid-stretch when the interrogation began. Hoshi flopped beside him, grinning. âSo, Seungkwan-ah, whatâs the plan with your tangerine fairy?â
âCome on,â DK chimed in, wiping sweat off his brow. âSheâs gorgeous! Youâve got her numberâwhy havenât you made a move?â
Seungkwanâs ears turned pink. âIâI donât even know if I like her like that! And I canât just text her out of nowhere! Itâd be weird!â
Jeonghan sauntered over, smirking as always. âYou got her number from her assistant that day, right? Whatâs the hold-up? Scared sheâll think youâre a creep?â
âYes!â Seungkwan wailed, flopping onto the floor. âWhat if sheâs like, âWhoâs this random guy?â Iâd die!â
âShe wonât,â Wonwoo said calmly, sipping water. âSheâs shy, but she didnât run screaming when you called her tangerine fairy. Sheâs cool with it.â
âExactly!â Mingyu nodded. âSheâs pretty, sweet, and sheâs been cheering you on since forever. Someoneâs gonna snatch her up if you donât move!â
âSnatch her up?!â Seungkwan sat up, horrified. âSheâs not a prize! And I donât even know what I feel!â
Hoshi tilted his head. âYou donât? Dude, you light up every time we mention tangerines. Thatâs not normal.â
âItâs a curse!â Seungkwan groaned, burying his face in his hands. âThose oranges from back thenâtheyâve haunted me! I canât forget her!â
âHaunted you into stardom,â Jeonghan teased. âThat sketch of hers? Youâd stare at it during trainee days like it was magic. Admit itâyouâre interested.â
Seungkwan peeked through his fingers. âOkay, fine! Iâm⌠interested! But liking her? I donât know! Sheâs just⌠special. Those doodles, the tangerinesâtheyâd pull me out of the dumps when I was exhausted. Iâd look at them and think, âSomeone believes in me.â Itâs why Iâm here!â
âAww,â DK cooed, clutching his heart. âThatâs so cute! Just text her already!â
âNo way!â Seungkwan flailed. âWhat would I even say? âHi, Iâm the guy you gave fruit to a decade ago, wanna hang out?â Itâs too random!â
âHow about,â Jeonghan suggested, grinning, ââHey, Y/N, still got any tangerines left? Letâs peel some together.â Smooth, right?â
âShe wonât,â Wonwoo said, shrugging. âSheâs into tangerines too. Itâs your thing.â
Seungkwan groaned, collapsing again. âYouâre all useless! Iâll figure it out⌠eventually!â
Back at her place, Y/N finished her tangerine doodle, setting it aside. âHeâs not gonna text,â she mumbled. âItâs fine. Iâm fine.â
âYouâre not fine,â Jiwoo said, smirking. âYouâre doodling sad tangerines now. Just message him!â
âNo!â Y/N squeaked. âWhat if he doesnât remember me anymore? Iâd die!â
Jiwoo laughed. âOh, he remembers. Trust me.â
Unbeknownst to them, Seungkwan sat in the practice room, staring at his phoneâY/Nâs number glowing on the screen. Hey, Y/N, he typed, then deleted it. Tangerine fairy, itâs me! Nope, deleted again. âUgh, why is this so hard?!â he muttered, tossing the phone aside. For now, the tangerine curse held strongâkeeping them apart, but never out of each otherâs minds.
The park was peaceful, the two of them munching tangerines side by side, watching kids scamper across the playground. The sky dimmed, painting the horizon orange, and a cool breeze rustled the trees. Seungkwan glanced at Y/N, his curiosity bubbling upâthe question heâd held onto since that shoot finally spilling out.
âHey, Y/N,â he said, peeling another tangerine segment. âIâve always wondered⌠whyâd you give me those tangerines back then? And why didnât you ever talk to me?â
Y/N froze mid-bite, her tangerine dangling in her hand. What do I say? Her mind raced. That I had a crush on him? That I still kinda like him? No wayâthatâs too weird! Her cheeks flared red just thinking about itâspilling her heart to Boo Seungkwan, idol extraordinaire, felt like a one-way ticket to mortification. Heâll think Iâm some creepy fan!
She opened her mouth, but no words came outâjust a tiny, panicked squeak. Before she could cobble together an excuse, a familiar voice cut through the silence.
âY/N! There you are!â Her grandma appeared, huffing slightly from the walk, peering over the bench. Then her eyes landed on Seungkwan, and they lit up. âOh! The idol boy! The one you used to draw all the time! Seungkwan, right?â
Y/Nâs soul left her body. âGrandma!â she yelped, jumping up. âW-What are you doing here?!â
âLooking for you, silly!â Grandma said, beaming. âItâs getting dark! And Seungkwanâhave you eaten? Come join us! Iâve got a whole spread at homeâjjigae, pancakes, tangerines, you name it!â
âGrandma, no!â Y/N flailed, stepping between them. âHe doesnât have toâheâs probably busy!â She shot Seungkwan a desperate lookâSay no, please say no! What if they tell him everything?!
But Seungkwan just grinned, standing up. âThat sounds amazing! Iâd love to, Grandma. Thanks!â
âWhat?!â Y/N squeaked, her face a furnace. âSeungkwan, you donât have to! Youâve got⌠plans or something, right?â
He laughed, brushing off her panic. âPlans? Nah, just chilling in Jeju. And no more disappearing, remember? Destinyâs clearly got this coveredâIâm not fighting it!â
âDestiny?!â she hissed as they started walking, Grandma leading the way. She tugged his sleeve, whispering, âSeriously, you donât have to! Theyâre gonna say stuffâembarrassing stuff!â
âLike what?â he whispered back, grinning at her red face. âHow cute you are when you blush? Too lateâI already know that.â
âSeungkwan!â she groaned, shoving him lightly. âIâm serious!â
âSo am I,â he teased, unfazed. âRelax, tangerine fairy. Iâm here for it.â
At the house, they settled around the dining table, a feast spread outâsteaming jjigae, golden kimchi pancakes, and, of course, a bowl of tangerines. Y/N kept her eyes glued to her plate, avoiding Seungkwanâs gaze, while her grandparents launched into chaos.
âOh, you shouldâve seen her back then!â Grandpa said, chuckling. âSheâd sit there doodling you on stageâstars everywhere! Always said, âHeâs gonna be a big singer someday!ââ
âOh, yes they do!â Grandma cut in, passing Seungkwan a pancake. âSheâd show us those drawings so proudâlike you were her little project! And look at you nowâon real stages, just like she said!â
Seungkwanâs eyes sparkled, and he leaned forward. âReally? What else did she say about me?â
âNo, no, no!â Y/N yelped, waving her hands. âDonât answer that! Please!â
âToo late!â Grandpa laughed. âSheâd watch you sing at school eventsâhid in the back, clapping all quiet. Said your voice made her day better!â
âGrandpa!â Y/Nâs voice hit a new pitch, her face tomato-red. âCan we talk about literally anything else?!â
Seungkwan grinned, resting his chin in his hand. âNo, no, I wanna hear more! Did she ever say I was cool?â
âOh, all the time!â Grandma said, nodding. âSheâd come home like, âSeungkwanâs so cool, heâs gonna be famous!ââ
âGrandma, Iâm begging you!â Y/N moaned, hiding behind her napkin. âHe doesnât need to know this!â
âWhy not?â Seungkwan teased, peeling a tangerine. âItâs cute! You were my first fan, huh?â
âIâI wasnâtâ!â she stammered, but her grandparents kept going, oblivious.
âAnd those tangerines!â Grandpa added. âSheâd sneak out early to leave âem for youâdrew little hearts and everything!â
âHearts?!â Seungkwanâs eyebrows shot up, delighted. âY/N, you didnât tell me about hearts!â
âBecause itâs embarrassing!â she wailed, slumping in her chair. âCan we eat in silence? Please?â
âNope!â Seungkwan laughed, popping a tangerine segment into his mouth. âThis is gold! Your grandparents are my new best friends.â
âOh, we like him!â Grandma said, patting his hand. âYou should visit moreâbring your singing voice next time!â
âDeal,â he said, winking at Y/N. âAs long as Y/N doesnât run away again.â
âIâm running right now,â she muttered, but a tiny smile crept onto her face. The table erupted in laughter, stories flowing, and though she was redder than ever, Y/N couldnât deny itâSeungkwan fit right in, tangerines and all. Destinyâs a menace, she thought, but maybe not the worst one.
Seungkwan lingered at Y/Nâs grandparentsâ house after dinner, the table still buzzing with laughter and empty plates. As he prepared to leave, Grandma bustled into the kitchen, returning with a bulging bag of foodâkimchi pancakes, jjigae containers, and a heap of tangerines.
âTake these, Seungkwan-ah!â she said, thrusting the bag at him. âShare with your membersâthey need some Jeju love too!â
âOh, wow, thank you!â Seungkwan bowed deeply, grinning. âThe guys are gonna lose it over this!â
Grandpa chuckled, tossing in extra tangerines. âAnd donât forget to come back! Weâve got more stories about our tangerine cheeks here!â
âGrandpa!â Y/N whined, hiding her face, but Seungkwan just laughed.
âIâll be back for sure,â he said, winking at her. âStories and all.â
Y/N walked him outside to wait for his van, the night air cool and quiet. She shuffled her feet, clutching a tangerine nervously. âUm, sorry about them,â she mumbled. âTheyâre so talkative. Just⌠forget all that stuff they said, okay?â
Seungkwan turned, his smile soft. âForget it? No way. Iâm happy I heard it.â He stepped closer, eyes warm. âI never forgot your tangerines, Y/N. They always cheered me upâstill do.â
Her cheeks burned, and she looked away. âR-Really? They were just⌠silly.â
âSilly? They were everything,â he said, laughing lightly. âYou have no idea.â
The vanâs headlights appeared down the road, and Y/Nâs heart sankâtime was up. But before he climbed in, Seungkwan paused, turning to her with that bright, earnest smile. âYou know, Y/N, youâre the reason I became an idol. That drawing of yoursâthe stage, the stars, the tangerinesâit made me believe someone really thought I could do it. So⌠thank you.â
Her breath caught. âIâI didnât⌠I mean, you did all the work!â
âMaybe,â he said, shrugging. âBut you gave me a push. Letâs meet up in Seoul, yeah? No more vanishing.â
She nodded, a shy smile breaking through. âOkay. Deal.â
He waved as the van pulled away, and Y/N stood there, heart racing, until the taillights disappeared. Back inside, she found her grandparents pressed against the window like spies, grinning ear to ear.
âLook at that chemistry!â Grandma cooed. âTangerine cheeks and her idol boy!â
âStop it!â Y/N groaned, storming to her room. But alone, she flopped onto her bed, a grin spreading as she replayed Seungkwanâs laughâbright, infectious, like pure joy. Heâs so happy, she thought, her heart fluttering. Then her phone buzzed. A text from Seungkwan: âThanks for today, tangerine fairy! Letâs do it again soon.â Her smile widened, and she typed back lightning-fast, cheeks red but heart soaring.
Months flew by, and things between them bloomed. Seungkwan and Y/N texted constantlyâhis messages bold and chatty, hers shy but growing bolder. âYou wonât believe what Hoshi did today,â heâd yap over a call, voice bubbling. âSpilled juice all over the dorm!â
âOh my gosh, again?â sheâd laugh, her usual quiet melting away. With him, she was differentâbraver, brighter. His calls left her red-faced but giddy, and when their schedules aligned, heâd pop up at her shoots, especially if she was doing makeup for other artists on the same setlist.
âHey, tangerine fairy!â heâd say, leaning against her station, ignoring her flustered squeaks. âGot any spares today?â
âSeungkwan, youâre not even in this shoot!â sheâd protest, handing him a doodled tangerine anyway. The other artists would smirk, and sheâd hide behind her brushes, mortified but secretly thrilled.
But lately, Seungkwan had been swamped, their chats shorter, meetings rare. Y/N tried not to dwell on itâHeâs an idol, itâs normalâbut she missed him. Then, one night, her phone buzzed: âLook outside your window.â
She peeked out, and there he wasâSeungkwan, standing under a streetlight with that goofy grin, a picnic basket swinging in his hand. She bolted downstairs, throwing on a hoodie, and stepped outside, eyes wide.
âSeungkwan?!â she gasped, laughing. âWhat are you doing here? Itâs midnight!â
He held up the basket, beaming. âMissed you. Midnight picnicâs the answer, right?â
âYouâre crazy,â she said, but her smile betrayed her. They walked to a nearby park, the night quiet except for crickets. They spread a blanket, unpacking snacksâsandwiches, juice, and, naturally, tangerines. For a while, they ate in silence, the city lights twinkling above.
Then, without warning, Seungkwan reached over and took her hand. Her breath hitched, her eyes snapping to his, but he didnât say anythingâjust kept walking, fingers warm around hers. Why is he doing this? Her heart pounded. Over months of texts, calls, and stolen moments, sheâd fallen hardâhis sweetness, his gentleness, the way he made everyone smile. But to him, was she just the tangerine girl from way back? Why hold her hand like it was nothing?
âSeungkwan?â she ventured, voice small. âWhy⌠are you holding my hand?â
He glanced at her, his grin softening. âBecause I wanted to. Is that okay?â
She blushed, nodding shyly. âY-Yeah. Itâs⌠okay.â
âGood,â he said, squeezing her hand. âLetâs just enjoy this, tangerine fairy. No disappearing tonight.â
She laughed, her heart a mess but happy. âNo disappearing,â she promised, wondering just how deep this tangerine curse had pulled them both.
The midnight picnic lingered in Y/Nâs mind like a sweet dreamâSeungkwanâs warm hand, his bright laugh, the tangerine peels glowing under the moonlight. But reality swooped in fast. Seungkwan was swept away by Seventeenâs relentless scheduleârehearsals, variety shows, and overseas promotionsâwhile Y/N drowned in her own whirlwind of makeup gigs, blending eyeshadow for idols and dodging Jiwooâs teasing.
âHand-holding at a midnight picnic, huh?â Jiwoo smirked, sprawled on Y/Nâs couch with a tangerine in hand. âWhatâs next, a tangerine-themed proposal?â
âJiwoo!â Y/N yelped, tossing a cushion at her. âIt was just⌠a moment! Heâs busy, Iâm busyâweâre not dating!â
âSure,â Jiwoo drawled, peeling the tangerine. âThatâs why youâre doodling hearts on your tangerines now. Totally not in love.â
âDecorative, my foot,â Jiwoo laughed. âYouâre head over heels, tangerine fairy. Just admit it!â
Y/N groaned, hiding her face. Truth was, she was fallingâhard. Seungkwanâs texts, his surprise visits, that gentle way he made her feel seenâit was all too much. But doubt gnawed at her. Does he even see me like that? Or am I just his old tangerine pal?
Meanwhile, in Seventeenâs dorm, Seungkwan wasnât faring much better. He sat on the couch, staring at his phoneâY/Nâs last text, a shy âHope practice went well!â glowing on the screen. He wanted to reply, but his fingers froze. What if I sound too eager?
Hoshi burst in, tossing a tangerine at him. âYah, lover boy! Still daydreaming about your fairy?â
Seungkwan caught it, glaring. âIâm not daydreaming! And stop throwing fruit!â
âHeâs totally daydreaming,â DK said, plopping beside him. âYouâve got her number, youâve held her handâwhyâre you stalling?â
âIâm not stalling!â Seungkwan huffed. âI just⌠donât know what to say! What if she thinks Iâm weird for liking her?â
Jeonghan, lounging nearby, smirked. âLiking her? Youâve been in love with her tangerines since you were ten. Just ask her out!â
âIn love?!â Seungkwanâs voice hit a new octave. âIâm notâI mean, I like her, okay? Sheâs sweet, and her doodles are⌠inspiring! But what if I mess it up?â
âMess it up?â Wonwoo said, glancing up from his book. âSheâs shy, not fragile. Just be youâshe already likes you.â
âYeah!â Mingyu added, munching on a snack. âYouâre Boo Seungkwan! Charm her with your Jeju vibes!â
âYouâre all useless,â Seungkwan groaned, flopping back. But deep down, he knew they were right. Y/N wasnât just a memoryâshe was here, now, and he didnât want to let her slip away again.
A few days later, Y/N was at a music show, doing makeup for a rookie group. She was mid-blush application when her phone buzzedâa text from Seungkwan: âAt the same venue today! Can I swing by?â Her heart did a flip.
âHeâs coming here?!â she whispered, nearly dropping her brush.
âWho?â Minji, her assistant, peeked over. âOh, let me guessâtangerine prince?â
âShush!â Y/N hissed, typing a quick âSure!â before her nerves could stop her. Itâs just a visit. No big deal.
But when Seungkwan strolled into the makeup room, all casual in a hoodie and that dazzling smile, her resolve crumbled. âHey, tangerine fairy!â he called, waving a tangerine heâd clearly nabbed from her stash. âMiss me?â
âS-Seungkwan!â she stammered, cheeks red. âYouâre⌠here!â
âYup!â he said, leaning against her station. âSaw your name on the crew list and had to say hi. Got any new doodles for me?â
âUh, maybe!â she said, fumbling for a tangerine with a âKeep shining!â doodle. âHereâdonât eat it yet!â
âToo late,â he teased, pretending to peel it. âKidding! This oneâs a keeper.â
The rookie group members giggled, and Minji whispered, âYouâre so obvious!â Y/N shot her a look but couldnât stop smiling. Seungkwan lingered, chatting about his day, making her laugh with stories of Hoshiâs latest chaos. Every glance, every joke, felt like a spark.
Before he left, he leaned closer, voice soft. âHey, Y/N⌠you free this weekend? Maybe we could grab coffee? No tangerines required.â
Her breath caught. Is this⌠a date? âC-Coffee?â she squeaked. âLike⌠just us?â
âYeah, just us,â he said, grinning. âUnless you want to bring your tangerine army.â
She laughed, nodding. âOkay. Coffee sounds good.â
âSweet!â he said, fist-pumping. âIâll text you!â
As he waved and jogged off, Minji pounced. âDid he just ask you out?! Spill!â
âItâs just coffee!â Y/N protested, but her heart was soaring. Coffee with Seungkwan. The tangerine curse was pulling them closer, and for once, she wasnât scared to see where it led.
Seungkwan lounged on his room, propped up on pillows for a cozy Weverse live. The screen glowed with fan comments zooming byâquestions about Seventeenâs latest comeback, favorite snacks, and random memes. He grinned, waving at the camera. âHey, Carats! Just chilling tonightâletâs chat!â
The comments flooded with hearts and emojis, and Seungkwan laughed, reading one aloud. ââWhy did you pick tangerines for your Miniteen character? Is it because youâre from Jeju and your dad has a farm?ââ
He burst out laughing, clapping his hands. âOh, good guess! Jejuâs definitely tangerine central, but thatâs not the whole story.â He leaned closer, eyes sparkling. âOkay, Carats, want a throwback? Back in elementary school, I had this classmate whoâd sneak tangerines onto my desk every morning. Theyâd have these cute little faces drawn on themâsmiley faces, hearts, sometimes a âFighting!â note. Iâd sit down, see one, and just⌠boom, best day ever!â
The comments explodedââAwww!â âWho was it?!â âTangerine fairy!â Seungkwan grinned, reaching off-screen to grab something. âWait, it gets better. This classmate? She drew me onceâcheck this out.â He held up Y/Nâs old sketch, the one with him on stage, stars twinkling, a tangerine crowd cheering. âLook at this! She drew me like I was already a star. Still got it on my wall!â
Fans spammed hearts, begging for more. âDid you know who it was?â one comment asked.
Seungkwan paused, his smile softening. He knew Y/N valued her privacyâno way heâd spill her name. âNah, I didnât know back then,â he fibbed gently. âIt was a mystery! But then⌠poof, the tangerines stopped. She disappeared, moved away or something. Broke my heart a little, not gonna lie.â
The comments turned into a sea of crying emojis. âFind her!â one fan wrote. âSheâs your muse!â
âMuse, huh?â Seungkwan chuckled, leaning back. âYeah, maybe she was. Those tangerines, that drawingâthey kept me going through trainee days. If I could talk to her now, Iâd just say⌠thank you. Sheâs the reason I believed I could do this.â
The live went on, but his words hung in the air, sweet and sincere, warming every Caratâs heartâand one viewer in particular.
Across town, Y/N sat on her couch, phone propped up as she watched the live with Jiwoo. Her jaw dropped when Seungkwan told the story, her cheeks turning tangerine-red. Jiwoo cackled, elbowing her.
âOh my gosh, heâs talking about you!â Jiwoo squealed, clutching a pillow. âTangerine fairy on Weverse! Youâre famous!â
âJiwoo, stop!â Y/N whined, hiding her face. âHeâs crazy! Whyâs he telling everyone?!â
âBecause heâs in loooove,â Jiwoo teased, drawing out the word. âLook at him showing off your drawing! Heâs whipped!â
âHeâs not!â Y/N protested, peeking through her fingers. But when Seungkwan held up her sketch, her heart melted. âOh no⌠he kept it. Thatâs so embarrassing!â
âEmbarrassing? Itâs adorable!â Jiwoo said, grinning. âHeâs basically confessing to the world that youâre his inspiration!â
âHeâs just being nice!â Y/N mumbled, but her smile betrayed her. Hearing him talk about her tangerines, her drawing, with such warmthâit made her chest flutter. He really remembered all that.
When the live ended, Jiwoo poked her. âYou gonna text him? Tell him heâs nuts for airing your tangerine saga?â
âI⌠maybe,â Y/N said, grabbing her phone. She hesitated, then typed a quick message to Seungkwan: âYouâre CRAZY! Telling all of Weverse about my tangerines?! Iâm hiding forever now!â
His reply came in seconds, with a string of laughing emojis. âHaha, tangerine fairy, you canât hide from me! Had to give you a shoutoutâthose tangerines changed my life! Thank YOU.â
Y/Nâs cheeks burned, but she typed back, âYouâre too much. But⌠Iâm glad you liked them.â
âLiked them? Loved them,â he replied. âStill do. Coffee soon? I owe my muse a tangerine or two.â
She laughed, her heart racing. âHeâs impossible,â she muttered, but Jiwoo caught her grin.
âYeah, impossibly in love with you,â Jiwoo teased, dodging Y/Nâs swat. âGo plan your coffee date!â
âItâs not a date!â Y/N insisted, but as she texted Seungkwan backââCoffee sounds good. Bring tangerines!ââshe couldnât stop smiling. The tangerine curse had woven their past into something new, and every sweet word from him felt like a step closer to something brighter.
The coffee shop was tucked in a quiet Seoul alley, its warm lights spilling onto the cobblestones. Y/N arrived early, clutching a tangerine sheâd doodled with a nervous âGood luck!ââa habit she couldnât shake. Seungkwan had texted her to meet here, his usual playful tone laced with something new: âJust you, me, and some tangerines. Got something to tell you.â Her stomach had been in knots ever since.
Inside, she found a corner table, the scent of espresso mingling with her jitters. Whatâs he gonna say? she wondered, peeling her tangerine absentmindedly. Itâs just coffee⌠right?
The door chimed, and Seungkwan walked in, his hoodie and cap making him look like any other guyâexcept for that bright, unmistakable grin. âTangerine fairy!â he called, sliding into the seat across from her. âYou beat me here? And with a tangerine already? Youâre too good.â
âH-Hi!â she stammered, pushing the tangerine toward him. âI just⌠got nervous. Here, take this!â
He laughed, picking it up and reading the âGood luck!â doodle. âNervous? Why? Itâs just me!â His eyes softened, and he set the tangerine down gently. âBut⌠Iâm kinda nervous too.â
âYou? Nervous?â she said, raising an eyebrow. âYouâre Boo Seungkwan! Youâre never nervous!â
âOh, Iâm human, Y/N,â he teased, then took a deep breath. âOkay, no more stalling. Iâve been thinking about this for a while, and⌠I really like you. Like, really like you. Not just as my tangerine fairy from back then, but as you, now. And I want us to be officialâlike, together. A couple.â
Y/Nâs heart stopped. Her tangerine segment fell to the table with a soft plop. âW-What?!â she squeaked, her cheeks flaming. âYouâlike me? Like⌠that?â
âYeah, like that,â he said, grinning, though his hands fidgeted with his coffee cup. âIâve liked you since Jeju, maybe even beforeâthose tangerines, your drawings, theyâve always been part of me. But now? Itâs you, Y/N. Your laugh, your shy smiles, the way you make everyoneâs day better. I want you in my life, for real.â
She stared at him, her mind a whirlwind. Seungkwan likes me. Me. But doubt crept in, cold and heavy. âBut⌠youâre an idol,â she mumbled, looking down. âYouâre Boo Seungkwan. Fans, your company, your whole worldâitâs huge. And Iâm just⌠me. A makeup artist. Nobody. Wonât it be⌠too hard?â
He reached across the table, gently taking her hand. âHey, donât say that. Youâre not ânobody.â Youâre Y/Nâthe girl who made me believe I could be a star. The girl who still makes me smile just by existing.â
Her cheeks burned, but she didnât pull away. âStill⌠your fans. Theyâre so protective. And your companyâwhat if they donât like this? What if it messes up your career?â
Seungkwan squeezed her hand, his gaze steady. âIâm not gonna lie, it wonât be easy. Fans can be intense, and the companyâs got rules. But Iâve thought about this, Y/N. Iâve talked to my membersâtheyâre rooting for us, by the way.â He grinned, then sobered. âI donât care about the noise. I care about you. Weâll figure it out togetherâslow, steady, private if we need to. Iâm not scared of hard, not when itâs for you.â
Her eyes stung, his words sinking deep. âYou⌠really mean that?â she whispered.
âEvery word,â he said, leaning closer. âYouâve been my tangerine fairy all this timeâcheering me on, believing in me. Let me cheer for you now. Let me be yours.â
Y/Nâs heart felt too big for her chest. She wanted to say yesâevery fiber of her screamed itâbut fear held her back. âIâm⌠scared,â she admitted, voice small. âWhat if Iâm not enough for all this?â
Seungkwan smiled, soft and sure. âYouâre more than enough. Youâre my inspiration, remember? And Iâm not going anywhere. Weâll take it one tangerine at a time, okay?â
She laughed despite herself, the knot in her chest loosening. âOne tangerine at a time?â
âYup,â he said, picking up her doodled tangerine and holding it like a promise. âStarting with this one. So⌠what do you say? Be my girlfriend?â
Y/N took a shaky breath, looking into his warm, earnest eyes. The doubts were still there, but his hand in hers felt like an anchor. Heâs Seungkwan. My Seungkwan. âOkay,â she said finally, a shy smile breaking through. âLetâs⌠try this. Together.â
âYes!â Seungkwan cheered, loud enough to turn heads in the shop. He caught himself, laughing. âOops, sorry! Iâm justâwow, Iâm so happy!â
âYouâre ridiculous,â she giggled, her blush deepening but her heart soaring.
âRidiculously yours,â he said, winking. âNow, letâs order some cake to celebrate. And maybe more tangerines?â
âAlways tangerines,â she agreed, squeezing his hand back. As they laughed and planned, the world outsideâthe fans, the company, the chaosâfaded. For now, it was just them, two tangerine hearts beating as one, ready to face whatever came next.

Seventeenâs chaotic camaraderie, Y/N, the groupâs 14th member, navigates a hidden romance with Joshua amidst their hectic schedules. Balancing playful group dynamics, subtle affection, and the pressure of secrecy, their close bond faces challenges from teasing members and unspoken tensions.
Pairing: Seventeen x 14th member
Genre: Fluff, Angst, Humor
The van ride back to the dorm was loud, filled with the membersâ drunken laughter and slurred stories, but a heavy silence hung between Y/N and Joshua. He sat by the window, earbuds in, staring into the dark Seoul streets like they held answers. Y/N, wedged between a giggling DK and a half-asleep Woozi, kept her eyes on her lap, her stomach churning. Jeonghanâs little game had hit harder than sheâd expected.
When they stumbled into the dorm, the members were a messâMingyu tripped over a shoe, giggling, while Seungkwan tried to serenade Hoshi with a butchered ballad. Joshua, though, was a different kind of quiet. He kicked off his shoes, muttered a vague âNightâ to no one in particular, and headed straight for his room without so much as glancing at Y/N.
She caught Jeonghanâs eye as he slung his jacket over a chair, her glare sharp enough to cut. Look what youâve done. He just grinned, stepping close to drape an arm around her shoulders, his voice a teasing whisper. âGood luck with sulky, jealous Joshua,â he said, laughing softly before slipping away to his own room, leaving her standing in the dim living room.
The dorm slowly quieted, the chaos giving way to snores and the occasional creak of a bed. Y/N changed into her pajamasâan oversized hoodie and soft shortsâthen sank onto the couch, scrolling aimlessly on her phone to kill time. She needed to make sure the members were out cold before sneaking to Joshuaâs room. Her chest felt tight, replaying his coldness, the way heâd shut her out. Joshua was never madânot like this. Even when she was stubborn or pushed his patience, heâd always meet her with a smile or a gentle nudge. This felt different, and she hated it.
After an hour, when the dorm was silent, she padded down the hall, her socks muffling her steps. Joshuaâs door was cracked open, a sliver of moonlight spilling out. She slipped inside, closing it softly behind her. He was lying on his bed, arms behind his head, eyes closed, but Y/N knew him too wellâhis breathing was too even, too deliberate.
âI know youâre not sleeping,â she said quietly, her voice barely above a whisper as she crossed the room. She climbed onto the bed, settling beside him, her arms wrapping around his waist without hesitation. âShua, come on.â
He didnât move, his body tense under her touch. A sigh escaped him, long and heavy, and when he spoke, his voice was low, edged with something raw. âWhy donât you go sleep? Gotta rest up for your big date tomorrow, right?â
Y/N pulled back just enough to see his face, her heart sinking at the tightness in his jaw. She pouted, nudging his chest gently. âYou know I didnât mean any of that,â she said, her voice soft but firm. âI only played along with Jeonghan because if I didnât, the guys wouldâve started asking questions. Like, âWhyâs Y/N so weird about this?â It couldâve made them suspicious, Shua. I was just⌠protecting us.â
Joshuaâs eyes stayed closed, but his hand twitched, like he wanted to reach for her but wouldnât let himself. âProtecting us,â he echoed, the words flat. âFunny how that ends up with you agreeing to meet some guy. And the members eating it up, thinking youâre single.â
She frowned, sitting up slightly, her fingers tightening on his shirt. âJoshua, stop. You know youâre the only one I love. Like, only you. That whole thing was a stupid act. Iâd never actually go on a date with anyone else.â
He finally opened his eyes, meeting hers in the dim light. They were softer now, but still guarded, searching her face. âThen why canât we just tell them, Y/N?â he asked, his voice quieter but no less intense. âThe membersâtheyâd get it. Theyâd probably throw us a damn party. Theyâre our family. But itâs been years, and weâre still sneaking around, and now theyâre out there trying to set you up because they think youâre free to date whoever.â
Y/Nâs throat tightened, the familiar argument settling heavy between them. She dropped her gaze, her fingers tracing small circles on his chest to ground herself. âI know,â she admitted, her voice small. âI want to tell them, I swear. Just⌠not now. Itâs the comeback, and everyoneâs stressed, and what if it changes things? What if they start treating us differently, or think weâre not focused?â
Joshua sighed again, his hand finally moving to cover hers, his thumb brushing her knuckles. âYou always say that,â he said, not accusing, just tired. ââNot now.â But itâs been three years, Y/N. Iâm tired of watching you pretend Iâm just another member. Iâm tired of feeling like I have to hide how much Iââ He stopped, swallowing hard, his eyes flicking away.
Her heart twisted. She hated thisâhated seeing him hurt, hated that she was the reason. Leaning forward, she pressed her forehead to his, her voice barely a whisper. âIâm sorry, Shua. Iâm so sorry. I donât want you to feel like that. I just⌠I got scared. But I promise, weâll tell them soon. When the timingâs better. Okay?â
He didnât answer right away, his hand tightening on hers. She could feel the conflict in himâthe patient, steady Joshua whoâd always given her space, warring with the part that just wanted to be seen with her. Finally, he exhaled, pulling her closer until she was tucked against his chest, his arms wrapping around her fully.
âOkay,â he murmured, but there was a weight to it, like he wasnât sure how many more âokaysâ he had left. âBut Iâm holding you to that promise.â
She nodded against him, her pout deepening as she buried her face in his neck, breathing in the familiar warmth of him. âI hate when youâre mad at me,â she mumbled, her voice muffled. âYouâre never mad. Itâs weird. I donât like it.â
A soft laugh escaped him, the first crack in his armor. âIâm not mad,â he said, his hand sliding up to cradle the back of her head. âJust⌠frustrated. I donât want to share you, even if itâs fake.â
âYouâre not sharing me,â she said fiercely, lifting her head to meet his eyes. âIâm yours. Always. Jeonghanâs stupid friend can kick rocks.â
That pulled a real smile from him, small but genuine, and he leaned down to press a kiss to her forehead. âGood. Because Iâd hate to have to scare him off.â
She giggled, the tension easing as she snuggled back into him, her arms tightening around his waist. âYou? Scary? Please. Youâd probably just charm him into leaving politely.â
âDonât test me,â he teased, his voice lighter now, his fingers tracing lazy patterns on her back.
They lay like that for a while, the dorm silent around them, the earlier fight dissolving into the quiet. Y/N felt her eyes growing heavy, the warmth of his embrace pulling her toward sleep. She hated fighting with himâhated how it made her chest ache, how it reminded her that even Joshuaâs patience had limits. But here, curled up with him, she could pretend for a little longer that it was just them, no secrets, no games.
As her breathing slowed, Joshuaâs hand stilled in her hair, his voice a soft murmur against her temple. âI love you,â he said, so quiet it was almost lost to the dark.
âI love you too,â she whispered back, already half-asleep, her arms still wrapped around him like she could keep the world out forever.
But in the back of her mind, Jeonghanâs smirk lingered, a reminder that their secret wasnât as safe as it used to be. And Joshuaâs wordsâânot nowââechoed, a promise she wasnât sure how much longer she could delay.
The dorm had been a pressure cooker for days, the air thick with unspoken tension. Jeonghanâs restaurant stunt had left a mark, and though Y/N had smoothed things over with Joshua that night, the cracks were still there. Sheâd promised to tell the membersâsoonâbut âsoonâ felt like a moving target, and Joshuaâs patience was wearing thin. Jeonghan, ever the menace, wasnât done stirring the pot.
His next scheme came during a rare break in their schedule. The group was lounging in the practice room, sprawled across the floor, debating dinner plans. Y/N was curled up on a bench, scrolling through her phone, while Joshua sat nearby, strumming his guitar absentmindedly. To the members, it was business as usualâuntil Jeonghan struck.
âHey, Y/N,â he called, his voice deceptively casual as he leaned against the mirror. âMy friend texted me again. You know, the one whoâs dying to meet you? Heâs free tomorrow night. I told him youâre game for coffee.â
Y/Nâs head snapped up, her eyes narrowing. Not again. âJeonghan, I didnâtââ
âWait, hold up!â Seungkwan cut in, sitting up from his spot on the floor, eyes wide with glee. âThis guyâs still in the picture? Y/N, you didnât tell us you were actually into it!â
âIâm not,â she said quickly, her voice sharp, but the members were already piling on.
âCome on, give him a chance!â Hoshi chimed in, grinning. âJeonghan wouldnât set you up with a dud. Right, Hannie?â
Jeonghan smirked, his gaze flicking to Joshua, whoâd stopped strumming, his fingers frozen on the strings. âOh, heâs a catch,â Jeonghan said smoothly. âI showed him your latest stage pics, Y/N. Manâs smitten. Said youâre exactly his type.â
Y/Nâs stomach dropped. She shot Jeonghan a glareâyouâre deadâbut the damage was done. Joshuaâs jaw clenched, his eyes fixed on the guitar like it was the only thing keeping him grounded. âCool,â he muttered, barely audible, but the word carried a chill that Y/N felt across the room.
âShua, itâs notââ she started, but Mingyu steamrolled over her, oblivious.
âYo, we need details! Whatâs this guy do? Is he, like, a CEO? A model?â Mingyu asked, leaning forward. âY/Nâs gotta aim high, you know.â
âHeâs just a friend,â Y/N snapped, her voice louder than intended, trying to shut it down. âAnd Iâm not meeting him, so drop it.â
The members groaned, teasing her for âplaying hard to get,â but Joshua didnât say a word. He set the guitar down, stood, and walked out without looking back, the door clicking shut behind him. The room fell quiet for a split second, the others exchanging confused glances.
âWhatâs up with him?â Vernon asked, scratching his head.
Jeonghan shrugged, his smirk barely hidden. âGuess heâs not feeling it today.â
Y/Nâs glare couldâve burned a hole through him. âI need some air,â she muttered, grabbing her jacket and heading for the door, her heart pounding with guilt and frustration.
For the next two days, Joshua was a ghost. He didnât ignore Y/N outrightâthat wouldâve been too obviousâbut he was distant, his warmth replaced by a polite, untouchable wall. In the dorm, heâd answer her questions with clipped âYeahâ or âFineâ his eyes never meeting hers. At practice, he stayed on the opposite side of the room, focusing on choreo with an intensity that shut her out. Y/N felt every dodged glance like a jab, her chest tightening with the weight of it.
She tried to catch him alone, lingering after meals or hovering near his room, but heâd slip away, mumbling about calls or errands. The worst part was how he masked itâstill joking with the members, still his usual self to everyone else. Only Y/N saw the cold edge, the hurt he buried under his smile.
Jeonghan noticed, of course. He didnât say anything, but his eyes followed them, sharp and calculating, waiting for the next crack.
That night, the group decided to hit a nearby diner for a late dinner, craving a break from dorm food. The vibe was off, thoughâJoshua had been holed up in his room all day, his door shut tight. Seungcheol knocked once, calling, âShua, you coming?â but got a muffled âNot tonightâ in response. The members exchanged looks but didnât push, sensing his mood.
Y/N was on the couch, knees pulled to her chest, scrolling through her phone but not really seeing it. Hoshi flopped beside her, nudging her arm. âY/N, come eat with us! You canât just mope here all night.â
âIâm not moping,â she lied, forcing a smile. âJust⌠not feeling great. You guys go ahead.â
âYou sure?â Seungcheol asked, frowning. âWe can bring you something back.â
âYeah, Iâm good,â she said, waving them off. âHave fun.â
Jeonghan lingered by the door, his gaze flicking between Y/N and Joshuaâs closed room. He didnât smirk this timeâjust gave her a small, almost apologetic nod before herding the others out. âLetâs move, people. Iâm starving,â he said, his voice light but deliberate, giving Y/N and Joshua the space he knew they needed.
The dorm fell silent, the kind of quiet that pressed against Y/Nâs ears. She stayed on the couch, her phone forgotten in her lap, replaying Jeonghanâs stunt and Joshuaâs reaction. She hated thisâhated how her fear had pushed him away, hated how Jeonghanâs games had made it worse. But bursting into Joshuaâs room felt wrong; he needed time to cool off. So she waited, the clock ticking past an hour, then two.
Finally, the door to Joshuaâs room creaked open. He stepped out, hoodie pulled up, heading for the kitchen without a word. Y/Nâs heart jumped, but he didnât look her way, his steps deliberate as he grabbed a glass from the cabinet.
She couldnât take it anymore. âShua,â she said, her voice soft but cutting through the silence. âCan we talk?â
He paused, his back to her, filling the glass with water. âWhatâs there to talk about?â His tone was flat, colder than sheâd ever heard, and it stung like a slap.
âYouâre mad at me,â she said, standing but staying by the couch, giving him space. âAnd I get it. Jeonghan was out of line, and I messed up by playing along again. But I didnât mean it. You know that.â
He turned then, leaning against the counter, his eyes dark with something rawâhurt, anger, exhaustion. âDo I?â he asked, setting the glass down harder than necessary. âBecause itâs the same thing every time, Y/N. You say youâll tell them, but you donât. You let them think youâre free to date whoever, and Iâm just⌠what? Supposed to smile and go along with it?â
âIâm trying to protect us!â she said, her voice rising, desperate. âIf Iâd shut Jeonghan down too hard, theyâd start asking why. Theyâd dig, Shua. You know how they are. I didnât want them figuring it out like that.â
âProtect us?â He laughed, but it was bitter, empty. âYouâre protecting you. Iâve been ready to tell them for years. Iâd shout it from the damn rooftop if youâd let me. But you keep saying ânot now,â and Iâm done hearing it. Iâm done watching you pretend Iâm nothing to you.â
Her breath caught, tears pricking her eyes. âYouâre everything to me,â she said, stepping closer, her voice breaking. âYou know that. Iâm just scared, okay? Scared itâll change things with the group, with the fans, with everything weâve worked for.â
He shook his head, running a hand through his hair. âI love you, Y/N. More than anything. But I canât keep doing thisâhiding like weâre some dirty secret. I canât keep watching them try to set you up because you wonât let me be yours out loud.â
âIâm sorry,â she whispered, tears spilling now, her hands trembling. âIâm so sorry, Shua. Iâll tell them. I swear, when they get back tonight, Iâll do it. No more waiting.â
He looked at her, his anger softening but not gone, like a fire burned down to embers. âYouâve said that before,â he said quietly, and the weight of it crushed her. He turned, heading back toward his room. âI need space.â
âJoshua, please,â she called, following him, her voice desperate. âDonât walk away. I mean it this time. Iâll tell them. Iâllââ
He stopped in the doorway, his back still to her, and for a moment, she thought heâd keep going. But then he sighed, his shoulders slumping, and turned to face her. âYou really mean it?â he asked, his voice softer now, searching her face.
âYes,â she said, stepping closer, her hands reaching for his. âIâm done hiding. I want them to know. I want everyone to know youâre mine.â
His eyes held hers, conflicted but softening, his love for her winning out over the hurt. He let her take his hand, his thumb brushing her knuckles like a reflex. âOkay,â he said finally, barely above a whisper. âBut if you donât, Y/N⌠I donât know how much longer I can do this.â
She nodded, tears still falling, and before she could overthink it, she leaned up, kissing him softly, an apology and a promise rolled into one. âI love you,â she murmured against his lips. âIâm sorry I made you wait.â
Joshua hesitated, then deepened the kiss, his hands sliding to her waist, pulling her closer. It was slow, intense, all the anger and longing pouring out until they were breathless. When they pulled apart, he rested his forehead against hers, his voice low. âI love you too. Always.â
They stayed like that, wrapped up in each other, the dormâs silence a cocoon around them. Y/Nâs heart raced, but for the first time in days, it felt lighter. Theyâd tell the members tonight. No more games, no more secrets.
An hour later, the members were wrapping up at the diner, their table a mess of empty plates and soju bottles. Seungcheol leaned back, stretching. âWe should grab takeout for Shua and Y/N,â he said, flagging down a waiter. âTheyâre probably starving.â
âYeah, Joshuaâs been off all day,â Wonwoo noted, frowning. âHe was locked in his room like heâs plotting a heist or something.â
âMaybe heâs just tired,â DK said, but his tone was uncertain. âOr⌠I dunno, mad? Heâs never this quiet.â
Seungkwan nudged Jeonghan, whoâd been unusually subdued, sipping his drink in silence. âYouâre quiet too, Hannie. Whatâs up? You know something?â
Jeonghanâs lips twitched, but he shook his head, his expression carefully neutral. âMe? Nah. Just enjoying the food.â Inside, he felt a twinge of guiltâhis scheme had pushed Joshua harder than heâd meant, and Y/Nâs glare still burned in his memory. But he kept his mouth shut, letting the moment play out.
They paid, grabbed takeout, and headed back, the walk filled with Hoshiâs loud retelling of a fan meet story. When they reached the dorm, Seungkwan fumbled with the key, juggling the takeout bags. âIf Joshuaâs still grumpy, Iâm eating his share,â he joked, pushing the door open.
The sight inside stopped them dead.
Joshua and Y/N were on the couch, tangled in a kiss that was anything but subtle. Her hands were in his hair, his arms around her waist, and they were so lost in each other they didnât hear the door. Seungkwanâs takeout bag hit the floor with a thud, sauce packets spilling. Hoshi, mid-giggle, choked on air, his jaw dropping. The others froze, a collective gasp sucking the air out of the room.
Joshua saw them first, his eyes snapping open over Y/Nâs shoulder. He pulled back, pushing her gently, his face flaming. âY/Nââ
She kissed him again, oblivious, chasing his lips with a whine. âShua, whyâd youââ He pushed her back a little harder, and she turned, pouting, ready to complainâuntil her eyes landed on the twelve members staring like theyâd seen a ghost.
Her face went beet red, her mouth falling open. âOh my God,â she squeaked, scrambling to stand, but her foot caught on a cushion, and she nearly faceplanted. Joshua grabbed her arm, steadying her, his own cheeks crimson but his lips twitching like he might laugh.
Hoshi broke the silence, jumping like heâd won the lottery. âOH MY GOSH, YOU TWO ARE KISSING! THIS IS WHY! THIS IS WHY!â He pointed wildly, spinning to the others. âI KNEW SOMETHING WAS UP!â
âYou knew nothing!â Seungkwan shouted, clutching his chest like heâd been betrayed. âWHY DIDNâT I SEE THIS? WHY?â
âHold up, hold up!â Mingyu yelled, waving his arms like a referee. âHow long has this been going on? Y/N, you were gonna date Jeonghanâs friend yesterday!â
âI was not!â Y/N snapped, mortified, hiding half behind Joshua, who was biting back a grin despite himself. âThat was a joke! Iâmâugh, this is so embarrassing!â
Dinoâs eyes were saucers. âYou were making out in our living room! Iâm traumatized! I need therapy!â
âOh, grow up,â Vernon said, but he was grinning, shaking his head. âHonestly, Iâm just mad I didnât figure it out sooner.â
Seungcheol crossed his arms, smirking. âSo, what, you two have been sneaking around this whole time? Under our noses?â
Joshua cleared his throat, finally finding his voice, his arm sliding around Y/Nâs waist protectively. âYeah, uh⌠for a while. Three years, actually.â
âTHREE YEARS?â DK screeched, clutching Hoshi for support. âTHREE? YEARS? IâVE BEEN LIVING A LIE!â
The room erupted, questions flying like confetti. âHowâd you keep it secret?â âWhen did this start?â âDoes this mean youâre, like, together together?â
Y/N groaned, burying her face in Joshuaâs shoulder, her voice muffled. âYouâre all so loud! Iâm dying here!â
Then Wooziâs eyes narrowed, landing on Jeonghan, who was leaning against the wall, smiling like the cat that got the cream. âWait a minute. Jeonghan, youâre not freaking out. Why arenât you freaking out?â
The group turned on him like hawks, realization dawning. âOH, YOU KNEW?â Mingyu bellowed, pointing accusingly. âYOU KNEW AND DIDNâT TELL US?â
Jeonghan raised his hands, laughing. âWhat can I say? Iâm Yoon Jeonghan for a reason.â His smug shrug only fueled their outrage, the members shouting over each other.
Y/N snapped out of her embarrassment, pointing at Jeonghan like she was ready to fight. âYOU! THIS IS YOUR FAULT, YOU MENACE!â she yelled, stepping forward. âYou and your stupid fake-date schemes! You pushed us into this!â
Jeonghan just grinned, strolling over to ruffle her hair, unfazed. âYouâre welcome,â he said, winking. âAt least now you donât have to hide.â He turned to Joshua, tapping his shoulder. âCongrats, man. Good luck with this interrogation.â
Joshua laughed, the tension from earlier melting away, his arm tightening around Y/N. âThanks, I think.â
The members descended into chaos, dragging chairs into a circle like they were starting a tribunal. Seungkwan plopped down, crossing his arms. âOkay, spill! From the beginning! When did you two start sneaking around?â
âAnd why didnât you trust us?â Wonwoo added, mock-hurt. âWeâre your family!â
Y/N groaned, sinking onto the couch, still red-faced. âIt wasnât about trust! I just⌠ugh, you guys wouldâve teased us to death!â
âAnd weâre not doing that now?â Hoshi cackled, dodging as she swatted at him.
Joshua, grinning, pulled her closer, his voice warm. âAlright, alright. It started predebut, honestly. We just⌠clicked. Didnât want to mess with the group vibe, so we kept it quiet.â
âQuiet?!â DK shouted. âYou were sucking face in our dorm! Thatâs not quiet!â
Y/N squealed, hiding her face in her hands. âI wasnât sucking face! Oh my God, kill me now!â
âYou kinda were,â Joshua teased, laughing when she shoved him. âWhat? Itâs true!â
The members roared, some cheering, others fake-gagging. âGet a room!â Dino yelled, only for Mingyu to smirk and add, âOh, wait, they already did!â
Y/N grabbed a cushion, hurling it at him. âYouâre all the worst!â she shouted, but her smile betrayed her, the relief of being out in the open washing away her embarrassment.
Jeonghan watched it all, his guilt from earlier fading. Heâd pushed too far, maybe, but itâd worked out. He caught Joshuaâs eye, giving a small nod. Joshua nodded back, a silent weâre good.
Later, when the members finally calmed down, Y/N dragged Joshua to her room, slamming the door to drown out the renewed teasing. âThey saw me kissing you like a desperate idiot,â she groaned, glaring at him as he leaned against her desk, laughing. âAnd youâre just laughing?â
âI mean, yeah,â he said, grinning, stepping closer to pull her into a hug. âYou donât have to hide how clingy you are anymore. Itâs kinda cute.â
She pouted, shoving his chest lightly. âIâm not clingy. And Iâm still mad at you for laughing. I looked like a tomato out there!â
âMy favorite tomato,â he teased, kissing her nose. âAnd for what itâs worth, Iâm glad they know. No more sneaking.â
She sighed, melting into him, her arms looping around his neck. âYeah, okay. But if they keep teasing me, Iâm blaming you and Jeonghan.â
âDeal,â he said, tilting her chin up for another kiss, softer this time, the chaos outside forgotten.
Behind the door, Hoshiâs voice rang out, muffled but gleeful. âYo, theyâre probably kissing again!â
âLetâs barge in!â Seungkwan suggested, only for Seungcheol to yell, âLeave them alone, you animals!â
Y/N pulled back, groaning. âWeâre never living this down, are we?â
Joshua just laughed, holding her tighter. âNope. But I wouldnât trade it.â
The dorm was a battlefield of snacks and banter, Seventeen sprawled across the living room for a rare movie night. Popcorn bowls were precariously balanced, and Seungkwan was already arguing with DK over who got to pick the film. Y/N, though, had zero interest in the debate. She was tucked into Joshuaâs side on the couch, her legs draped over his lap, one arm looped around his neck as she played with the collar of his hoodie.
âYou look so cute like this,â she murmured, her voice low but shameless, her lips brushing his ear just enough to make him shiver. âComfy Shua is my favorite Shua.â
Joshua grinned, his hand resting on her knee, thumb tracing lazy circles. âOh, yeah?â he teased, tilting his head to meet her eyes, his own sparkling with mischief. âYouâre just saying that âcause youâve got me trapped here.â
âTrapped and loving it,â she shot back, leaning in to peck his cheek, quick and bold, not caring who saw. Her heart fluttered at how easy it was nowâno overthinking, no glancing over her shoulder. Just them, out in the open, and she was eating it up.
The members, however, were less enchanted. Mingyu groaned from the floor, tossing a popcorn kernel at them. âCan you two not be so gross for, like, five minutes? Iâm trying to enjoy my snack here!â
âJealousyâs not a good look, Gyu,â Y/N called, sticking out her tongue before snuggling closer to Joshua, who laughed, wrapping an arm around her waist to pull her even nearer.
âIâm not jealous,â Mingyu huffed, crossing his arms. âIâm just saying, Joshua used to be our friend before you turned him into your personal teddy bear!â
âHeâs still your friend,â Y/N said, grinning wickedly. âJust⌠my teddy bear first.â
Joshua choked on a laugh, his cheeks pink but clearly loving every second of her boldness. âIâm not complaining,â he said, winking at her, and she giggled, poking his dimple.
Their bubble was interrupted by Hoshi, who bounded into the room with his usual chaotic energy, eyeing the couch like a predator. âYo, Shua, my man!â he declared, making a beeline for the empty spot next to Joshua. âScoot over, Iâm claiming my bro time!â
Y/Nâs head whipped around, her eyes narrowing into a glare that couldâve melted steel. âOh, no you donât,â she snapped, planting a hand on Joshuaâs shoulder to block Hoshiâs path. âThis is my spot, Kwon Soonyoung. Back off.â
Hoshi froze, blinking dramatically. âYour spot? Since when is Joshuaâs side your spot?â
âSince I said so,â Y/N retorted, leaning forward, her voice dripping with mock menace. âFind another seat, tiger boy, or weâre throwing hands.â
The room erupted, the members hooting and laughing as Hoshi clutched his chest like heâd been shot. âTiger boy?! Thatâs cold, Y/N! I just wanna sit with my buddy!â
âYour buddyâs taken,â she said, smirking, then patted Joshuaâs chest for emphasis. âRight, Shua?â
Joshua, barely holding it together, nodded, his grin wide. âSheâs kinda got a point, Hosh. This spotâs reserved.â
âBetrayal!â Hoshi wailed, flopping onto the floor next to Vernon, who was snickering. âFine, keep your clingy girlfriend. Iâll just bond with Vernonâs vibes instead.â
âGood luck with that,â Vernon deadpanned, shoving Hoshiâs head off his shoulder. âYour vibes are chaotic.â
Y/N stuck her tongue out at Hoshi, then turned back to Joshua, her smile softening as she leaned up to kiss his jaw, slow and deliberate. âYouâre too handsome tonight,â she whispered, loud enough for him to hear but flirty enough to make his ears redden. âHow am I supposed to focus on this dumb movie?â
âYouâre gonna kill me,â he murmured back, his voice low and warm, his hand sliding to her lower back, fingers grazing just under her hoodie. âBut Iâm not mad about it.â
Seungkwan gagged dramatically from across the room. âOkay, enough! Youâre making my popcorn taste like regret! Can we watch the movie or what?â
âYouâre just mad âcause Shuaâs getting more action than you,â Y/N teased, dodging a cushion Seungkwan lobbed her way.âRude!â Seungkwan shouted, but he was laughing, the others piling on with their own jabs.
The next week, during a magazine photoshoot, Y/Nâs clinginess hit new heights. The set was buzzingâlights, cameras, staff darting around as Seventeen posed in sleek, coordinated outfits. Joshua stood under a spotlight, adjusting his jacket, his hair styled just messy enough to look effortlessly perfect. Y/N, waiting for her turn, couldnât take her eyes off him.
âShua,â she called, sidling up as the photographer adjusted settings. âYouâre out here looking way too good. Like, rude levels of handsome. Howâs a girl supposed to cope?â
He turned, his smile slow and flirty, leaning closer so only she could hear. âYouâre one to talk,â he said, eyeing her outfitâfitted blazer, skirt hugging her just right. âIâm barely surviving over here.â
She giggled, bold as ever now, and stretched up on her toes to kiss him, quick but soft, right there on set. âThatâs for being too cute,â she said, winking as she pulled back.
A stylist nearby froze, clearly unsure whether to pretend she hadnât seen, but Joshua just laughed, his hand brushing hers before she stepped away. âYouâre trouble,â he called after her, but his eyes said he loved every second of it.
Hoshi, whoâd been posing nearby, caught the whole thing and groaned. âY/N, can you not steal Joshua for two seconds? I need him for my concept!â
âYour conceptâs fine without him,â she shot back, sticking out her tongue. âGo flirt with a camera or something.â
âIâm wounded!â Hoshi gasped, clutching his heart, but he was grinning, already plotting revenge. âJust wait, Iâm stealing his seat at lunch.â
âTry it and youâre sitting on the floor,â Y/N warned, her glare playful but fierce, making the others nearby crack up.
By the weekend, the members were staging a full-on revolt. At the dorm, Joshua was trying to teach Dino a new guitar chord in the living room, but Y/N had other plans. She plopped onto his lap, wrapping her arms around his neck, effectively halting the lesson. âHi,â she said, all sugar and spice, kissing his cheek. âYouâre too cute when youâre focused. Had to interrupt.â
Dino threw his hands up, exasperated. âY/N, Iâm trying to learn here! Can you not hog him for, like, one hour?â
âNope,â she said, grinning, snuggling deeper into Joshuaâs lap, who was laughing too hard to help. âHeâs mine now. Get your own Shua.â
âThereâs only one, unfortunately,â Joshua teased, his arms sliding around her waist, clearly thrilled by her boldness. âAnd Iâm pretty happy where I am.â
âGross,â Dino muttered, tossing a pillow at them, which Y/N caught and hugged like a trophy.
The door swung open, and Seungcheol walked in, freezing at the sight. âOh, come on,â he groaned, rubbing his temples. âY/N, let the man breathe! We need Joshua for game night, and youâre, like, glued to him!â
âHeâs breathing just fine,â Y/N said, smirking, then leaned up to kiss Joshuaâs nose, slow and dramatic, just to mess with them. âRight, babe?â
âBetter than ever,â Joshua agreed, his grin wide, planting a quick kiss on her temple for good measure.
Seungcheol fake-gagged, turning to the others piling in behind him. âSomeone get her off him! Iâm calling an intervention!â
Hoshi saw his chance, diving for the couch with a war cry. âOperation Save Joshua begins now!â He grabbed Y/Nâs arm, tugging like he was pulling her from quicksand. âCome on, letâs free our bro!â
Y/N yelped, clinging to Joshua like a koala. âGet your paws off, Soonyoung! This is my spot!â
âYour spotâs gonna be the hallway if you donât share!â Hoshi shot back, laughing as he tugged harder, turning it into a full-on wrestling match.
Joshua was no help, doubled over laughing as Y/N and Hoshi bickered, her arms locked around his neck. âYou two are ridiculous,â he managed, but his eyes were soft, drinking in Y/Nâs playful grin. Heâd waited years for thisâher unfiltered affection, no walls, no secretsâand every second felt like a gift.
Woozi, watching from the sidelines, shook his head. âI give up. Theyâre unstoppable. Someone get me noise-canceling headphones.â
âOr a barf bag,â Seungkwan added, dodging as Y/N flung a cushion at him.
Jeonghan strolled in last, smirking at the chaos heâd indirectly unleashed. âLook at you lovebirds, making everyone sick,â he teased, winking at Y/N. âWorth it, though, right?â
Y/N paused her tug-of-war with Hoshi, her smile softening as she looked at Joshua, who squeezed her hand, his eyes saying everything. âYeah,â she said, voice quieter but bright. âTotally worth it.â
Then she turned, glaring at Hoshi, who was still trying to wedge between them. âBut youâre still not stealing my spot, hamster!â
âChallenge accepted!â Hoshi roared, diving back in, and the room dissolved into laughter, Joshua pulling Y/N closer through it all, happier than heâd ever been.

Title: Hiding in Plain Sight
Masterlist | Part 2
Seventeenâs chaotic camaraderie, Y/N, the groupâs 14th member, navigates a hidden romance with Joshua amidst their hectic schedules. Balancing playful group dynamics, subtle affection, and the pressure of secrecy, their close bond faces challenges from teasing members and unspoken tensions.
Pairing: Seventeen x 14th member
Genre: Fluff, Angst, Humor
The dorm was buzzing with its usual chaos. It was a rare day off, and the members were scattered around the living room, some sprawled on the couch, others raiding the kitchen for snacks. Y/N sat cross-legged on the floor, scrolling through her phone, earbuds in, looking every bit the relaxed maknae-esque member she often played up. Joshua was on the couch nearby, casually strumming a guitar, his soft humming blending into the background noise of Mingyu and DK arguing over what to order for dinner.
To anyone watching, it was just another day. Joshua and Y/Nâs closeness was no secretâ predebut stories of them sharing snacks and late-night talks were practically group lore. But what the members didnât know, and what Y/N worked hard to keep under wraps, was that those moments had grown into something deeper. For three years now, theyâd been dating, stealing quiet moments away from the groupâs watchful eyes.
Y/N was the cautious one. Early on, sheâd insisted on keeping it private. âTheyâll never let us hear the end of it,â sheâd whispered to Joshua one night, tucked away in a practice room after hours. âSeungkwanâs teasing is bad enough when weâre just friends in their heads. And what if⌠what if they think weâre distracting each other?â Joshua had chuckled, brushing a strand of hair from her face, but heâd agreed. Her need for privacy trumped his occasional urge to let the worldâor at least their membersâknow.
In the dorm now, Y/N felt Joshuaâs gaze flicker toward her, subtle but warm. She didnât look up, keeping her focus on her phone, but her lips twitched slightly. He was always like thisâfinding small ways to stay close. Like how heâd chosen the spot on the couch nearest to her, his knee just shy of brushing her shoulder. To the others, it was nothing. Joshua was just being Joshua, friendly and comfortable with everyone.
âYo, Y/N, you voting for pizza or fried chicken?â Hoshiâs voice cut through her thoughts, his head popping up from the other side of the coffee table.
She pulled out an earbud, tilting her head. âPizza. Always.â Her tone was playful, deflecting any chance of seeming distracted.
âBet Joshuaâs gonna say the same,â Vernon chimed in from the kitchen, smirking. âYou two always pick the same stuff.â
Y/Nâs heart skipped, but she rolled her eyes, keeping it cool. âBecause we have taste, unlike you and your weird food combos.â
Laughter erupted, and the moment passed. Joshuaâs fingers paused on the guitar strings for a half-second, but he didnât look at her, just grinned at Vernonâs fake offense. Y/N exhaled quietly. Close calls like that were why she kept her guard up.
Later, when the group split offâsome heading to the kitchen, others to the TVâJoshua leaned down as he passed her, murmuring, âPractice room later?â
It was soft, barely audible, disguised as a casual comment. Y/N gave the tiniest nod, her face neutral, before slipping her earbuds back in like nothing happened.
The practice room was their sanctuary. Late at night, when the dorm quieted and the members were too tired to notice, theyâd sneak down to the company building. Officially, it was for âvocal practiceâ or âchoreo tweaks.â In reality, it was where they could just be.
Joshua was already there when Y/N slipped inside, locking the door behind her. He was sitting on the floor, back against the mirror, scrolling through his phone. The second he saw her, his face lit up, softer than the teasing smirks heâd worn all day.
âTook you long enough,â he said, but there was no bite in it. He patted the spot next to him.
Y/N didnât hesitate, dropping down and immediately curling into his side, her head resting on his shoulder. Here, with no one watching, she let herself melt. âHad to wait for Woozi to stop interrogating me about my lyric ideas,â she mumbled. âHeâs relentless.â
Joshua chuckled, wrapping an arm around her. âYouâre too good at dodging. Even I almost believe youâre just âfocused on workâ sometimes.â
She poked his side, grinning. âGotta keep up the act. Youâre the problem, you know. Sitting next to me all the time, looking at me like⌠that.â
âLike what?â His voice was teasing, but his eyes were warm, tracing her face like he was memorizing it.
âLike youâre whipped,â she shot back, but her cheeks flushed.
âGood. Because I am.â He leaned down, pressing a soft kiss to her forehead, and Y/Nâs heart did its usual flip. These momentsâquiet, unguardedâwere worth every second of caution.
They stayed like that for a while, talking about nothing and everything: a new song idea, a dumb meme, plans for a future they hoped could include more than stolen moments. But when Y/Nâs phone buzzed with a text from SeungcheolâWhere you at?âreality snapped back.
She sighed, pulling away reluctantly. âI should go before they start a search party.â
Joshuaâs hand lingered on hers, but he nodded. âTomorrow?â
âTomorrow,â she promised, standing. Before she left, she glanced back, catching his smileâone that was just for her. She carried it with her, even as she stepped back into the role of âjust Y/N,â the 14th member who definitely wasnât sneaking around with Joshua.
Back at the dorm, she slid into the living room, where a few members were still up, watching a movie. Joshua was already there, sprawled on the couch, looking perfectly innocent. When she sat on the opposite end, he didnât react, but his foot nudged hers under the blanketâjust enough to make her bite back a smile.
âPizzaâs here soon,â Mingyu announced, oblivious as ever.
âCool,â Y/N said, leaning back, her voice steady. Across the couch, Joshuaâs eyes flickered to her for a split second, and that was enough. They were good at thisâhiding, balancing, keeping their secret safe. For now, it was enough.
The Seventeenâs schedule was relentless as alwaysârehearsals, interviews, and a looming comeback. The practice room was a second home, mirrors fogged with sweat and music blasting through speakers. Y/N stood near the back, catching her breath between choreography runs, her eyes scanning the room out of habit. Joshua was across the space, laughing with Jeonghan about something, his hair slightly damp from exertion. To anyone else, he was just another member, blending into the groupâs chaos. To Y/N, he was a quiet anchor in the storm.
Keeping their relationship under wraps was second nature now, three years into their secret. Y/N had perfected the art of distance in publicânever too far from Joshua to raise suspicion, but never close enough to spark rumors among the members. Sheâd dodge lingering glances, keep her touches platonic, and redirect conversations that veered too close to teasing. Joshua, though, was bolder in his quiet way. Heâd find excuses to be near herâa water bottle passed during a break, a fleeting comment about the choreoâsmall enough to go unnoticed but deliberate enough to make her heart race.
Today was no different. As the group ran through their title track for the tenth time, Joshua ended the formation just a step away from her. His arm brushed hers as they transitioned, so brief it couldâve been an accident. Y/N kept her face neutral, focusing on her reflection in the mirror, but her pulse ticked up. He knew exactly what he was doing.
âAlright, five-minute break!â Seungcheol called, clapping his hands. The members scattered, some collapsing on the floor, others grabbing their phones. Y/N headed for her bag, pulling out a towel to wipe her face, using the moment to steady herself.
Joshua, predictably, wandered over, casual as ever. âYou good?â he asked, voice low, leaning against the wall nearby. To anyone watching, it was just a check-in between friends.
âYeah, just surviving,â she replied, flashing a quick smile before looking away. She caught Hoshiâs eye from across the roomâhe was sprawled dramatically, whining about his legsâand she laughed, deflecting any chance of seeming too focused on Joshua.
âGood. Keep up,â Joshua teased, but there was a softness in his tone that made her glance at him. His eyes held hers for a half-second too long, and she turned away, busying herself with her water bottle. Too risky, she thought, even as warmth spread through her chest.
Later that evening, the group piled into a van for a late-night radio interview. Y/N slid into a middle seat, wedged between Dino and Woozi, with Joshua up front next to the driver. The members were buzzing, tossing around dumb hypotheticals to pass the time.
âY/N, whoâd you pick to be stranded on an island with?â Seungkwan asked, leaning over the seat with a mischievous grin.
She didnât miss a beat. âMingyu. Heâd probably try to cook the coconuts and burn the island down, but at least Iâd be entertained.â
The van erupted in laughter, Mingyu protesting loudly. Joshua stayed quiet, but Y/N caught his reflection in the windowâhe was smiling, just a little, like he knew sheâd picked a safe answer. She always did. Naming him, even as a joke, wouldâve felt like tempting fate.
At the radio station, the interview was standard fareâcomeback teasers, group banter, and the usual âwhoâs the closest?â questions. Y/N sat between Vernon and Jun, keeping her answers light and vague. When the host asked about her bond with Joshua, citing their predebut friendship, her stomach tightened.
âWeâve always been chill,â she said, shrugging. âHeâs like the groupâs unofficial therapist. Listens to everyone.â
Joshua nodded from his spot across the table, adding, âY/Nâs easy to talk to. Sheâs got good advice.â It was true enough to sound natural, vague enough to mean nothing. The members didnât blink, used to their dynamic being framed as pure friendship.
But as the interview wrapped and they shuffled out, Joshuaâs hand grazed her lower back for a split second, guiding her through the crowd of staff. It was gone before she could react, but her skin tingled where heâd touched. She shot him a lookâcarefulâand he just smirked, pulling out his phone like nothing happened.
Their next stolen moment came days later, after a grueling rehearsal. Most of the members had crashed in the dorm, too tired to notice Y/N slipping out with a vague excuse about âgrabbing something from the studio.â Joshua was already waiting in the companyâs rooftop gardenâa tucked-away spot theyâd found months ago, hidden from prying eyes.
The city lights stretched out below, and the cool night air felt like freedom. Y/N didnât hesitate this time, stepping into Joshuaâs open arms. He pulled her close, chin resting on her head, and for a moment, they just stood there, the weight of secrecy lifting.
âMissed you,â he murmured, voice muffled against her hair.
âWe were together all day,â she pointed out, but her arms tightened around him, betraying her own longing.
âNot like this.â He pulled back just enough to look at her, his thumb brushing her cheek. âYouâre too good at pretending Iâm just another member.â
She sighed, half-smiling. âI have to be. You saw how Seungkwan was fishing in the van. One wrong answer, and heâs planning our fake wedding for laughs.â
Joshua chuckled, but his eyes softened. âYou ever think about⌠not hiding?â
Her stomach twisted. Sheâd thought about itâdreamed of a day when they could sit next to each other without overthinking every glance. But the risks loomed larger. âI want to,â she admitted quietly. âBut the group⌠the fans⌠I donât know if theyâd get it. And the guys would lose it. You know how they are.â
He nodded, not pushing. Joshua never did. Instead, he leaned down, kissing her softly, slow enough to make her forget the world for a second. âWeâll figure it out. When youâre ready.â
They stayed up there as long as they dared, talking about the comeback, their parts in the new song, anything to stretch the moment. But when Y/Nâs phone buzzedâWonwoo asking if sheâd seen his hoodieâshe knew it was time to go.
Back in the dorm, she slipped in quietly, hoodie in hand as an alibi. The living room was dim, only a few members still awake. Joshua was on the couch, scrolling through his phone, looking every bit like heâd been there for hours. Y/N tossed Wonwooâs hoodie to him, earning a grateful nod, and sank into a chair across from Joshua.
âLong day,â she said, loud enough for anyone listening, her tone casual.
âTell me about it,â Joshua replied, not looking up. But under the coffee table, his foot nudged hersâjust once, just enough to say Iâm here.
She hid her smile, pulling out her phone to scroll through nothing. They were still a secret, still careful. But in the quiet of the dorm, with the members oblivious around them, that was enough.
The dorm was quieter than usual that morning, the usual pre-promotion chaos muted by the early hour. Seventeenâs first comeback stage was today, a big deal after months of preparation, and the air buzzed with anticipation. Y/N stood in front of the bathroom mirror, splashing cold water on her face to shake off the feverish haze clouding her head. Her reflection looked pale, eyes heavy, but she gritted her teeth. No way Iâm missing this.
The members had noticed she wasnât herself. At breakfast, Minghao had squinted at her, asking, âYou good, Y/N? You look like youâre about to pass out.â
âIâm fine,â sheâd shot back, forcing a grin. âJust didnât sleep enough. Ready to crush it today.â
Seungcheol had frowned, clearly unconvinced, but Y/N waved it off, piling food onto her plate to prove a point. Joshua, sitting across the table, hadnât said anything, but his eyes lingered on herâsharp, assessing, the kind of look that saw through her stubborn front. She avoided his gaze, focusing on her coffee instead.
Now, as they piled into the van to head to the music show, Y/Nâs head throbbed, her body aching with every step. She slid into the back row, pressing her temple against the cool window, hoping no one would press her again. Joshua, of course, had other plans. He climbed in last, scanning the seats before settling right beside her, his knee brushing hers as he sat. To the others, it was just Joshua being his usual, considerate selfânothing new.
âYou okay?â he asked softly, voice low enough to stay between them. His hand rested on the seat, fingers grazing hers for a fleeting moment, warm and deliberate.
She nodded, eyes half-closed. âJust sleepy,â she mumbled, keeping her tone light. âLong night.â
He didnât buy itâshe could tell from the way his jaw tightenedâbut he didnât push. Instead, he shifted closer, his shoulder angled toward her. âHere,â he said, patting it gently. âRest a bit. You look like you need it.â
Y/N hesitated, but the pounding in her head won out. She let her head drop onto his shoulder, her cheek pressed against the soft fabric of his jacket. The contact was grounding, easing the ache just enough to keep her going. Joshuaâs hand settled lightly on her arm, a subtle touch that felt protective but stayed just shy of obvious. To the members, it was classic Joshuaâalways offering a shoulder to anyone who needed it. Seungkwan, sprawled in the seat ahead, didnât even glance back, too busy arguing with DK about setlist predictions.
âDonât hog Joshuaâs shoulder the whole ride,â Vernon teased from the middle row, grinning over his phone. âSome of us might need a nap too.â
âFirst come, first served,â Y/N shot back weakly, managing a smirk. Joshuaâs thumb brushed her arm, so soft it couldâve been an accident, and she bit her lip to hide a smile.
The van hummed along, the membersâ chatter fading into background noise. Joshua tilted his head slightly, resting his cheek against her hair for a momentâa tiny, intimate gesture hidden by the angle of their seats. âTell me if you feel worse,â he whispered, barely audible. âIâm serious.â
âIâll be fine, Shua,â she murmured back, but her voice softened at his concern. âPromise.â
At the music show, the backstage area was a blur of staff, cameras, and last-minute checks. Y/N pushed through her fever, plastering on a smile for rehearsals and fan greetings. The members kept an eye on herâJun nudging her water bottle closer during a break, Jeonghan tossing her a jacket when she shiveredâbut she brushed them off with quick âIâm goodâ and forced energy. Joshua, though, was a constant shadow, his presence steady but subtle.
During a rehearsal pause, he found her leaning against a wall, eyes closed, catching her breath. He stepped up beside her, close enough that their arms brushed, his fingers grazing her wrist under the guise of handing her a mic pack. âYouâre burning up,â he said quietly, brow furrowed. âSure you donât wanna sit this one out?â
âItâs our first stage,â she replied, voice firm despite the rasp. âIâm not bailing. Donât worry so much.â
He sighed, but his hand lingered on her wrist, thumb tracing a small circle against her pulse. âCanât help it,â he admitted, his tone softer now, almost a confession. âJust⌠lean on me if you need to, okay?â
She met his eyes, her stubbornness faltering under his warmth. âI always do,â she said, barely above a whisper, and for a second, the chaos around them faded. His fingers squeezed hers lightly before letting go, both of them stepping back into their roles as the stage manager called them over.
On air, Y/N poured everything into the performance, hitting every beat despite the fever dragging at her limbs. Joshua stayed close in the formation, his glances subtle but frequent, checking her without breaking character. During a talk segment, when the MC asked about their comeback prep, Y/N sat at the end of the lineup, gripping her mic tightly to steady herself. Joshua, two seats away, answered a question, his voice calm, but his foot nudged hers under the tableâjust a tap, grounding her. She exhaled, focusing on his voice to keep herself anchored.
At the next break, they were shuffled to a green room to wait for their second stage. Y/N sank onto a couch, head tipped back, trying to ignore the dizziness. Joshua appeared beside her with a water bottle, sitting just close enough for their thighs to touch. âDrink,â he said, pressing it into her hand, his fingers brushing hers deliberately, lingering a beat too long.
âYouâre babysitting me now?â she teased, but her voice was weak, grateful.
âSomeoneâs gotta,â he shot back, smirking, but his hand rested lightly on her knee, hidden by the couchâs armrest. âRest for five minutes. Please.â
She nodded, sipping the water, letting his touch steady her. Across the room, Hoshi and Dino were messing around, reenacting their stage choreo with exaggerated flair, oblivious to the quiet moment. To the members, Joshuaâs concern was just him being himâalways checking on everyone. They didnât see how his thumb traced a soft line against her knee, or how Y/Nâs fingers briefly laced with his before she pulled away, keeping up the act.
âThanks, Shua,â she said, loud enough for anyone nearby to hear, her tone deliberately casual. âYouâre a lifesaver.â
âAnytime,â he replied, matching her tone, but his eyes said more, warm and unwavering. He shifted slightly, giving her space as Mingyu flopped onto the couch beside them, whining about hunger.
By the end of the show, Y/N was running on fumes, but sheâd made it through. Back in the van, she claimed the window seat again, and Joshua slid in beside her without a word. The members were too hyped, reliving the stage, to notice anything. When her head found his shoulder again, it felt like the most natural thing in the worldânothing new, nothing to question.
âYou did good,â he murmured, his hand finding hers in the dark, hidden between their seats, fingers interlocking tightly. âProud of you.â
âCouldnât have done it without you,â she whispered back, squeezing his hand. His thumb stroked over her knuckles, a silent promise, and she closed her eyes, letting his warmth pull her through.
To the group, they were just Joshua and Y/Nâclose friends, same as always. But in the quiet of the van, with his hand in hers, they were everything else, too.
The practice room was a haven of controlled chaos, Seventeenâs usual blend of focus and foolery. Y/N sat on the couch tucked against the mirrored wall, her legs curled under her, leaning casually into Joshuaâs shoulder. One hand toyed with his bangs, twisting the soft strands absentmindedly, while the other scrolled through her phone. She snorted at a meme, shoving the screen toward him. âShua, look at thisâCarats are wild for this edit.â
Joshua grinned, tilting his head to see. âWhy am I always the victim in these?â he teased, voice warm as he nudged her hand away from his hair. Her laughter was soft, bubbling up as she swiped to another video, their bubble undisturbed by the members stretching or joking nearby.
To the group, this was just Y/N and Joshuaâsame as always. She was sweet with everyone, sprawling across Mingyuâs lap during movie nights or stealing bites of Dinoâs snacks. Joshuaâs quiet affection was par for the course, tooâhis hand ruffling Vernonâs hair or resting on Seungcheolâs shoulder mid-conversation. So when Y/Nâs fingers lingered in Joshuaâs hair, no one blinked. Except Jeonghan.
He was sprawled on the floor, catching his breath after a choreography run, but his eyes flicked to the couch. Y/Nâs casual ease with Joshua had a different edgeâa softness in her smile, a deliberate way she leaned just a bit closer than necessary. Jeonghanâs lips twitched. Interesting.
That night, the group planned a rare outing to a karaoke bar, a break from their packed schedules. Y/N and Joshua, as usual, bowed out, citing exhaustion. âIâm dead from practice,â Y/N groaned, flopping dramatically onto the dorm couch. âYou guys have fun screaming your lungs out.â
âSame,â Joshua added, already in sweats, scrolling through his phone. âIâll pass out if I try to keep up with Hoshi tonight.â
The members didnât question itâthose two often skipped group outings, happy to chill at the dorm. But Jeonghan, halfway out the door, realized heâd left his phone on the kitchen counter. âBe right back,â he called, waving off Seungkwanâs impatient âHurry up!â
He didnât mean to be stealthy, slipping back into the dorm with light steps, but old habits died hard. He just didnât want to wake them if they were already dozing. The living room was dim, lit only by a lamp, and as he neared, Y/Nâs voice floated through the quiet, sweet and petulant.
âIâm telling you, Shua, that choreoâs gonna kill me,â she whined, her tone softer than her usual group banter. âMy legs are screaming.â
âYou killed it today,â Joshua murmured, his voice low, soothing. âJust take it easy tomorrow.â
Jeonghan froze, curiosity pulling him closer. He peeked around the corner, careful not to creak the floor. Y/N was curled into Joshuaâs side on the couch, practically hugging him, her arms looped around his waist as she pouted up at him. Joshuaâs hand moved through her hair, brushing it gently, his expression so soft it was almost unrecognizable from his usual calm smile.
Jeonghanâs heart kicked up, not from shock but from the thrill of catching something hidden. Well, well. He smirked, pieces clicking into placeâY/Nâs careful distance in group settings, Joshuaâs subtle orbit around her. They werenât just close. They were together. And theyâd been hiding it, right under everyoneâs noses.
He couldâve grabbed his phone and left, but where was the fun in that? Instead, he backed away, easing the door open and shut with deliberate silence. As he rejoined the group outside, Seungkwan waved. âGot your phone?â
Jeonghanâs smirk widened, eyes glinting. âNah, itâs dead. Left it behind.â
Hoshi tilted his head, squinting. âWhy do you look like you just won something?â
âJust happy to be out,â Jeonghan said smoothly, but his mind was already spinning. He wouldnât spillânot yet. It wasnât his story to tell. But oh, he was going to have fun with this.
The next day, Y/N and Jeonghan were holed up in the recording studio, the only two left to lay down their parts for the groupâs album. The others were off on solo schedules, leaving the space quiet, just the hum of equipment and their voices. Y/N lounged on the couch, scrolling through her phone, giggling at a Carat-made compilation of SEVENTEENâs chaotic moments.
âJeonghan, you have to see this,â she said, leaning over to show him a clip of Seungkwanâs dramatic aegyo fail. âIâm sending this to him later.â
Jeonghan laughed, but his eyes flicked to her, catching the carefree way she sprawled next to him. His mind flashed to last nightâthe way sheâd clung to Joshua, all soft edges and trust. His smirk returned, sharp and knowing.
He leaned back, stretching his arms casually. âYou know, Y/N,â he started, voice light but pointed, âif youâre ever hiding something, you can tell me. Iâm good at keeping secrets.â
Y/N froze, her thumb pausing mid-scroll. âWhat?â She laughed, but it was nervous, her eyes darting to his face. âHiding what? Youâre so random.â
Jeonghanâs smirk grew, his gaze locking onto hers. âCome on, Iâm not that clueless. Unlike the others, I notice things.â He paused, letting the words sink in, then dropped the bomb. âLike last night. Forgot my phone, came back to the dorm. Didnât mean to overhear⌠or see you and Joshua getting cozy.â
Y/Nâs face drained of color, her phone slipping to her lap. âJeonghan, wait, itâs notââ She stumbled, panic flashing in her eyes as she sat up straight. âI mean, we werenâtâokay, look, I can explain.â
Her words tumbled out, a rushed defense. âItâs not like weâre hiding anything bad, I swear. I just⌠I didnât want the group to make it a thing, you know? Theyâd tease us forever, or what if they think itâs a problem? Weâre just trying to keep it lowkey, andââ
Jeonghan cut her off with a laugh, leaning forward to ruffle her hair like she was a kid. âRelax, Y/N. Iâm not mad. Iâm fine with it.â
She blinked, caught off guard. âYou⌠are?â
âYeah,â he said, grinning. âYou two are cute. Sneaky, but cute.â
Relief flooded her, but it was short-lived. Jeonghan leaned in, his voice dropping to a conspiratorial whisper, eyes glinting with mischief. âBut donât think Iâm letting you off easy. Iâm not telling the membersâor Joshua, for that matter. This stays between us.â
Y/Nâs eyes narrowed, sensing the trap. âWhatâs that supposed to mean?â
He just smirked, leaning back with a shrug. âOh, nothing. Just⌠letâs see how long you two can keep this up when Iâm around.â
She groaned, slumping back. âYouâre the worst.â
âAnd you love me for it,â he shot back, laughing as she shoved his shoulder.
The next evening, Seventeen crowded into a BBQ restaurant, fresh off a long day of schedules. The air was thick with the smell of grilling meat and soju, the table a mess of plates and bottles. Y/N, still rattled from Jeonghanâs bombshell, made a point to avoid Joshuaâs orbit. Instead of her usual spot near him, she wedged herself between Seungcheol and Hoshi, forcing a laugh as Hoshi tried to âteachâ her how to wrap a lettuce wrap properly.
âYouâre hopeless, Y/N,â Hoshi said, shaking his head as she fumbled the wrap, rice spilling onto the table.
âSays the guy who dropped his entire skewer earlier,â she fired back, earning a chorus of laughs.
Jeonghan sat across from her, sipping his soju, his eyes flicking between her and Joshua with barely concealed glee. Joshua, at the end of the table, was quieter than usual, picking at his food. Y/N felt his gaze on her but didnât dare meet it, hyper-aware of Jeonghanâs watchfulness.
Then, out of nowhere, Jeonghan struck. âOh, Y/N, I forgot to mention,â he said, voice casual but loud enough to draw attention. âMy friend was asking about you. You know, the one I told you about? He really wants to meet you.â
Y/Nâs chopsticks froze mid-air, her eyes snapping to Jeonghanâs smirking face. Oh, you absolute menace. âUh⌠what?â she managed, playing dumb.
Jeonghan leaned forward, undeterred. âYeah, heâs a great guy. Funny, kind, totally your type. Since youâre single, I figured Iâd set you up. What do you think?â
The table erupted. Seungkwan slammed his glass down, grinning. âWait, Y/Nâs getting a date? Spill the details!â
âIs he hot?â DK chimed in, leaning over Hoshi to poke her arm. âCome on, you gotta give us something!â
Y/N forced a laugh, glaring daggers at Jeonghan. Game on, then. She wasnât about to let him win this. âSounds⌠fun, actually,â she said, her smile tight but convincing. âWhatâs his name? Maybe Iâll give it a shot.â
Joshuaâs hand stilled on his chopsticks, his jaw tightening. He didnât look up, but the shift was obvious to anyone paying attention. Jeonghan, of course, was. âOh, Joshua, what do you think?â he asked, voice dripping with fake innocence. âGood idea, right? Y/N deserves to have some fun.â
Joshuaâs eyes flicked to Jeonghan, sharp and unamused. âIf she wants to, sure,â he said, his tone flat, almost too controlled. âHer call.â
Y/Nâs stomach twisted, but she kept up the act, nodding enthusiastically. âYeah, why not? Tell your friend Iâm game, Jeonghan.â
The members piled on, oblivious to the undercurrent. Mingyu clapped her shoulder. âGo for it, Y/N! Whenâs the date? We need a full report.â
âWhatâs his job? Is he, like, a model or something?â Dino asked, eyes wide.
âBetter not be cooler than us,â Seungcheol added, smirking as he poured more soju.
Jeonghan laughed louder than necessary, clearly delighted. âOh, donât worry, Iâll set it all up. Youâll love him, Y/N.â
Y/N kicked him under the table, subtle but hard. He didnât even flinch, just raised his glass to her with a wink. Joshua, meanwhile, pushed his plate away, leaning back with a look that couldâve burned a hole through the wall. The others kept rambling, planning her fake date, while Y/N played along, her competitive streak refusing to let Jeonghan see her crack.
But as the night wore on, she stole a glance at Joshua. His fingers were tight around his glass, his smile gone. She hated thisâhated Jeonghanâs game, hated how it made Joshua look at her like he wasnât sure where they stood. Sheâd fix it later, away from prying eyes. For now, she just smiled wider, leaning into Hoshiâs side as he slung an arm around her, keeping the charade alive.
Jeonghan caught her eye, his smirk saying it all: Your move.
