A simple circle skirt I made out of velvet in grade 11.Ā
A giant floor pillow I made while I was in grade 10. The flowers were cut out of scrap fabric, and the ruffle was added for a more difficult element.Ā

This is an assignment calledĀ āThe Lookā that I did for a fashion assignment about how to dress different body types.
The inspiration for our outfit is the ābohemianā or āboho-chicā style. We chose this look because it is very in this upcoming season. We are also both looking forward to summer, which is what this look represents due to the flowers and earthy elements.
The bohemian style originated back in the 20th century and was a term used to describe people who lead unconventional lives, such as artists or gypsies. In the 21st century, we have adapted this way of life into a style and trend and have added a few āhippieā elements into the look. In both cases, the bohemian style is based on individuality and leading a free-spirited life.
Bohemian clothing is often baggy and comfortable, making it easy to move in, which is why we chose the flowy skirt. Although the top is a bit more fitted, it is made out of a material that easily stretches. In our outfit, we chose mostly dull, neutral colors in order to make the outfit more wearable for everyday, such as to outdoor summer concerts, to a family picnic, or out to a farmers market. The skirt has a bold pattern however, and it is therefore the focal piece of the outfit since the shirt is neutral. Layering tops is also a major part of the bohemian style, which is why we added the vest. Since it is crochet/lace, it adds femininity to the outfit, which is what the bohemian style likes to have. They also like to wear flowers, so we added the flower crown in the hair. The flower crown also gives the outfit a bit of a hippie look and makes it perfect for the summer days. Bohemian hairstyles are often long and loose and can include braids, so we styled Julieās hair in the same way.
For accessories we paired two necklaces together, which help to balance out the pattern of the skirt. We chose wooden and leather bracelets, several silver rings, a leather purse and leather strappy sandals because all of these accessories are made out of natural materials and gives the outfit that āearthyā feel. The bohemian style also often incorporates different ethnicity influences, particularly any jewelry that showcases the Native American or South Asian cultures. So, we added feather earrings into our outfit. The cream colored belt on the skirt is meant to tie in the cream color of the vest, as they are an advancing color and stand out.
This outfit could work for all body types except for an O, due to the belt and horizontal stripe separating the shirt from the skirt. This outfit would work for an H body type if they didnāt want to create a waist for themselves. It would work for an X body type if they wanted to look more balanced out in the waist. Julie is an A body type, but the outfit still flatters her since it is a tubular shape which balances out her top and therefore outweighs the fact that the skirt is patterned and draws emphasis to the hip area. Also, since the outfit is tubular, it makes anybody who wears it look tall. The bohemian style isnāt meant to be the most flattering due to all the loose clothing, so as long as a person wore this outfit properly and with confidence, any body type could pull it off.

Problem Solving
Working at my current job, always provides me with problem solving opportunities involving customers or how our work flow is handled. I work at Starbucks, so we are always looking for ways to improve our work flow and how we can make our beverage sequencing faster. We recently Ā implemented a system called āplaybookā, its a sequencing routine used to make our store run faster and more sufficient. And to fully play out this method, we needed to rearrange our store. My manager put me in charge of doing this for our cold drink making area. I decided to rearrange our area in a way so everything is laid out in an order that follows what needs to be added to the drink next. Doing this has sufficiently improved our time it takes to make a drink. I also cleaned out a cupboard that we were just using for storage, and We now use it to store syrups we run out of the most, as well as extra espresso. That way we don't have to run into the back room when we are busy to grab it.
Creative Process
My creative process involve lots of trial and error. I am not one to plan because my thought process changes too often. I always start out with a rough draft of what I have to do, and build off of that. One halloween, my mom asked me to make her a hair piece for her haunted maid costume. I decided to free hand the headband because I remember on a trip to disneyland, the haunted mansion workers had to wear hair pieces similar to what I wanted to make my mom so I went out and bought felt, lace, and ribbon. I ended up having to go and buy more felt because I couldnāt get one part of the headband quite right and I used up a lot of it trying out different designs. Altogether the headband took me over 3 hours to complete since I had to make different pieces, hand sew some pieces together, and glue some other pieces to make it sturdy enough to wear.
The Final product I made for her costume.
Understanding of Interior Design as a profession
Becoming an Interior Designer is about much more than Decorating and being good at spatial awareness and colours. Those are important aspects of your job, but there is a lot more involved in the profession. A lot of times, people get interior decorators and interior designers confused and think they are the same thing. In some aspects the professions are similar but they also vary in major ways. I think of it this way, An interior designer can decorate, but an interior decorator cannot design since they do not understand the math and science that go into creating a liveable space.
Interior designers are more than just people who create spaces for you to live in, they are educated in structural integrity of buildings, building codes, ergonomics, environmental impacts of the building, CAD training and much more. Furthermore, interior designers need this broad range of skills since they work with more than just homeowners. They have to work with the builders, architects, and the government (under certain circumstances). To be successful at interior design, one has to be well-rounded and well educated.
As an interior designer, you have to be good with people. Youāre job is about giving people their dream home or business design. People can be very picky when it comes to what they have in mind for their dream home. As an interior designer its your job to please your client and make them feel they are in full control of the outcome of their house.
