Paper folding process

'In conversation with Jonathan Lasker' "How can imagery be freely created if language is dictated to its maker" Throughout A Level, we were constantly told that we needed to know what message we wanted to come across in our work, and what theories inspired it, everything we did needed a reason. But this is so wrong. I agree with Lasker in so many ways. The art should be created without reasoning, that's what makes it creative and free, the potential theories, language and meaning can then be determined after it has been made. This matters even more so in that everyone interprets art differently. What one person thinks, isn't going to be the same as the next. Art should be influenced by the environment, actions and emotions surrounding the artist at the time, what comes during the process could be anything, and then the audience can decide the language for themselves once it has been made. Art should be free and random and creative, not strict and confined.

Experimenting with Watercolour

It's been a WHOLE MONTH since I last wrote in my art journal and I just feel so disappointed in myself for not keeping up and just forgetting. Safe to say it's been a busy month. But, on the plus side, it's inspired me to paint, one involving my emotions and a system that is time moving throughout the day and my emotions changing as that time passes. I am excited and nervous to paint this. It's a painting that will be very much abstract and controlled my mind at the time of when I paint it, and it's my recent emotions that make me nervous for this painting.

Untitled (still thinking of a title) I am currently looking a creating a series of 5 paintings based around time. Time can be a journey, number, movements, rotation, slow, fast and many other things. For this piece I was purely inspired by the hands on a clock, that shows us the time. Not only do they show us what time it is, but they move within time limits. This painting follows a system of a repeated pattern, alike to the concept of the time, and is presented through rotated lines. There is no direct representation of the idea of time travelling, but just the idea of the time of day being repeated everyday of every year.

Preparing Boards for Painting Each time I make boards for painting, there is a process that I follow: 1) ensure they are the correct size 2) sand the boards down so they are smooth 3) put a frame on the back for hanging 4) prime the boards using white acrylic gesso (5-6 coats) 5) use 320 grit sandpaper to smooth the gesso surface

Logbook A way of writing down any inspiration in the exact moment I find it. My original thoughts and reactions alongside it. By having this I won't forget any significant moments throughout each day, and I won't have to try and remember how I felt or reacted to them. I will write in this everyday, even if there is no found inspiration. In that case of nothing interesting me within a day, I will simply write 'today was boring' or something like that. I will occasionally take photos with my phone and upload them on here, perhaps make further annotations and then link them with my later work. The logbook will stay with me, in my handbag, everywhere I go. It is a convenient size, at just A6. The paper is thick, textured cartridge paper, perfect for quick sketching also, if anything catches my attention. I could stick photos, newspaper cut outs, or even small found objects in here. It is purely a book of recorded inspiration.
