Poetry Friday
WISH
by Linda Sue Park
For someone to read a poem
Again, and again, and then,
Having lifted it from page
To brain—the easy part—
Cradle it on the longer trek
From brain all the way to heart.
*This poem is a sijos, a traditional Korean form. Each of the three lines has 14-16 syllables. The first line introduces the topic. The second line elaborates on it, and the third always has some kind of twist.
For more sijos, check out Linda Sue Park’s book, Tap Dancing on the Roof, from the AMS Library Learning Commons.
Write your own sijo and have it published on the AMS Learning Commons Blog.
