30 for 30: Decolonization through Poetry, Day 6
Day 6 – Write a poem that confronts the part of you that has hurt someone else.
To Whom It May Concern:
This letter is written with the intent
To address your troubling past (and present)
And urge you to make amends.
Let’s be honest:
You’re a toxic-ass, passive aggressive-ass,
Cold-shoulder-a-muthafucker piece of shit.
Slow to say what you mean,
Yet quick to flee the scene without reason
When your cards threaten to be revealed
You’re on some “now you see me”
“Now you don’t” type ish.
Keeping your true motives close to heart
Behind your “nice guy” wall
That’s too unstable and threatening to fall.
So willing to read into what others say
Instead of doing the workAnd getting to know yourself.
And when you hurt, instead of owning up,
You get defensive and start to blow up.
So do better, do better, do better.
Smell your shit, clean up your shit, throw away your shit.
Be better!
