Sometimes Words Are Not Enough

So this is really awesome! These are Disney princesses reimagined as disabled and drawn with service dogs. The artist, Arien Smith, drew these in 2017, but they have become viral only recently. Arien features all types of dogs in his portrayals as a way to educate about disabilities and service animals. He also does other dog related art. Arien can be found on Facebook under Royal Service Dogs or the major barkana. Hopefully more artists, or, you know, actual major film/tv/book creators begin to incorporate disabilities and service animals rather than pretending like they don’t exist (but that’s a different rant for a different day, 🙃).

The plot of this movie has probably been done, oh I don’t know, about a million times and then some, but for some reason this one was just way more enjoyable than your average run of the mill romantic comedy. It’s not like it really had anything new or original, I mean I feel like there’s a checklist for romantic teen comedies and it goes like this

gay friend

voice over narration

enemies to friends to lovers

the cute sibling, older or younger, or in this case, both

The self revelation and subsequent cleaning of room or decluttering their space, mental or physical

The heartfelt family/friend conversation

If it sounds like I’m describing Love, Simon it’s because I’m right

Usually I’m immediately bored by plots like this but something about this movie was so fun and entertaining to watch and I heard in the wind that they’re doing a sequel and I am all here for it. 

Highlights:

Peter Kravinsky may have been intended to be just like every other asshole jock but he was way to sweet and adorable to fit that characterization and I loved it

I can’t be the only one tired of the asshole gets the innocent girl trope and I’m glad they didn’t put too much effort into forcing that. Or if they did they didn’t do a good job and it worked out for them

Also Noah Centineo?????? Is an actual forreal angel living on planet earth

And Lana Condor is so cute! This was the first time I’ve seen her and she is really expressive and super fun, hope to see more of her soon

I love the family relationship they showed between the sisters. Like usually when you see sibling relationships, especially sisters, in movies they’re always fighting or being catty or whatever but there was only love between them

I feel like they could have fleshed out Gen’s character a little bit more? Like she obviously felt betrayed from before, but they never outright addressed it 

“Isn’t this movie like kinda racist?” “Oh no, it’s like super racist.” 

The outfits were cute as hell, who funded this costume department and where can I raid their closets

King Bach????

The scene where Lucas and Lara Jean are doing face masks and doing their new bff bonding was the absolute cutest

I just bought the book for like 7$ on amazon and I urge you all to do the same
