also you've got to be screaming if you wanna say some snarky remark. no wonder news spreads throughout hogwarts like wildfire.

A lot of social media trends nowadays feel more like minor shifts that last less than a month. If YouTube Rewind still existed, it'd probably have very few trends that encapsulate something that majority of people were doing at the same time.

It makes sense, of course, as whole generations are being and have been poisoned with short attention spans & chronic doomscrolling charged by the need for a dopamine rush, which, mind you, are being encouraged by big corporations and content creators who keep using visual hooks, auditory hooks and unconventional hooks.

I have a feeling that the dopamine rush-need effect also contributed to the way majority of people use generative AI because they don't want to put that extra mile into diving into research. As in a "I will accept the conventional answer to complete my task/satiate my curiosity now that the data-consuming machine gave me, knowing it's a yes-man" way rather than a "I should actually note down my my own findings and check the proper sources instead of believing a machine at face value" way.

Putting that aside, KDH managed to surpass the "one-hit wonder for two weeks" effect by somehow barely promoting the material pre-release. I, like many others, was curious about the poorly named movie title on Netflix and because of the preexisting knowledge that before the COVID-19 pandemic hit, K-Pop had also been a huge trend, with the likes of BTS and Blackpink, even though I'm not an avid fan of the industry. After the peak era of BTS and Blackpink, other idol groups emerged and it shaped the demographic of those types of fans who were also naturally attracted to K-Pop Demon Hunters.

The animation, effects, and namely the songs were so good that it started to expand beyond the target audience. See, when the algorithms noticed that the movie garnered a ton of attention, it started to push the content towards the masses to keep the curious users scrolling on their apps.

The movie received lots of love and lots of hate as a result. The abundance of hate didn't come from actual criticism about the movie's story (*ahem* but they definitely could've done better when it came to Jinu's ending, especially when they're probably planning a sequel) but mainly because it was K-Pop and it's a kids movie. I sure hope that those type of commentors realise that senselessly hating on a mainstream media without reason on a public social media platform will only encourage more discussion about it. And because of that, the movie was actually talked about for many months instead of 3 weeks!

Anyway, I do like K-Pop Demon Hunters and the songs are fire. The hype surrounding it almost reminds me of the hype behind Frozen, except now I can recognise the marketing strategies certain corporations put to work as I too am a victim of the aforementioned doomscrolling effect.
