There was something in the last goodbye between Kazuki and Soushi that completely wrecked me. The way Kazuki doesn’t cry and doesn’t despair. The calmness. The way he almost smiles as his dearest person is taken away from him again. This time Soushi is breaking the threshold of return and Kazuki knows it. It was supposed to be both of them: if one would die, the other would follow. It was their unspoken promise. But Kazuki wasn’t allowed even that, he couldn’t live the way he wanted and now, he could neither die the way he wanted. Everything is against him. Again and again and again. Yet he doesn’t protest this time. He smiles, even. And his calmness and acceptance are like a silent rebellion in a world where everything is against them. Because he knows. He knows that before he can meet Soushi again, he must lose him first. And there lies the realization that they’ll always find a way back to each other past different lives and deaths.
