Ovation of the Seas (Asia)
6Night Cruise China-South Korea-Japan- Hong Kong
We had a great time on our cruise! The ship, Ovation of the Seas, was an amazing ship. This new ship certainly has enough on board to keep everyone busy! Our favorite spot to relax onboard the ship was the Solarium area at the front of the ship. It is designated for adults only and is enclosed in glass which was nice since the weather was a bit cool and rainy on this trip! There was a fabulous running track around the top of ship. The entertainment was great. The ship has a high amount of tech bells and whistles. It has the “bionic” robot bar, interactive art boards, xbox rooms, and theaters that use multiple moving flat screens. It had everything from climbing walls, surfing, bumper cars, and rollerskating.
We were pleased with our ocean-view stateroom, although it would have been nice to have a balcony! The room had plenty of storage space and the bed was super comfy. It was fresh and clean cabin with a chic modern design. The bathroom was nice- good shower.
Since this ship was porting out of main land China, over 80% of the guests are from main land China. For someone who is traveling to Asia for the first time this can be quite a different experience and they should be warned that customer service and some guests interactions will not be the same as what they are used to on most US & Caribbean itineraries. As a western traveler, we were the minority and there were definitely culture differences that we had to adjust to. Personal space, loud shouting, spitting on the floors/trashcans, people wearing pajamas on the main decks, and carrying food to the rooms were some things we noticed that happened often on the ship. The food quality suffered because they were catering to the majority of passengers (Chinese) who preferred asian food over western dishes.
On the positive side, the staff were multicultural and very friendly! We were extremely impressed with the day to day service by the staff and bar tenders. The shows in the main theater were wonderful too!

October 27 2015- it's Charlie's Birthday! We are in Bali and I'm learning how to scuba dive!!!!! It's something he has been begging me to do since we met and I thought it would be neat to conquer this adventure with him on his birthday at the same place he got is PADI cert 8 years ago:-) Bali is one of the most charming places I've been. We got a hotel on Kuta beach, which is over crowded and touristy, but our drive out to the east coast for diving today total changed my perspective of Bali. I don't know how to explain the charm of Bali but is had a way of warming my heart and soul. There is some kind of magic in the rice field terraces and intricate stone carvings in the towns. The banana trees and palms are giant and the light breeze blows through the leaves like a faint whisper. When entering the small villages, there were tall bamboo poles with dried palm leaves woven into little chain links that would dangle down from the poles and blow with the soft breeze. I asked about this and found out they are up during ceremonies. It felt magical. :-) the stone carvings line the walls of the towns and the building are made of stones. The walls of cobble stones and the roofs made of clay or tin. Really...Bali is magical. I want to roam in the countryside. ok.... So enough about the county side beauty.... The underwater world is amazing too! Today was day 2 of 3 of my PADI cert. & my first dive in open water (yesterday basics in the pool). I did OK but it definitely takes some mental will-power to do what I did today. We had many "emergency" skill drills that had to be completed and the "mask off" drill had me a little rattled. Nothing like being 40ft under water with eyes closed and no mask. Quiet eerie. Even more stressful was the 40ft under and no regulator(aka air mouth piece)... The drill where you have to "find it" and put it back in before drowning. Ugh. but I said to myself. You must stay calm.... You got this. If you can swim 2.5miles in freezing water with 2,000 other athletes tromping over you in an Ironman, you can do this darn drill! I did it today and I have two more similar drills left for tomorrow's session. Well cheers to a new adventure with my sweetie! And cheers to being able to be healthy enough to enjoy this together. Cheers to his 34th bday and may we have a life time of birthdays left together:-)

Lite Breakfast:-) We walked 7 kilometers on the canal by our home this morning. I stopped at a small street fruit stand on the way back and I picked up a whole pineapple (already peeled) for 50cents. I also picked up a cafe Suda take away "mang ve" for 50cents!!!! Yummy yummy
Just wanted to say hello:-) We had a good day. Let's see... We slept in. Went and got massages. Went shopping at multiple grocery stores. Went for a walk by the canal. Watched church at home- Andy Stanley's new series " what makes you happy". Played cards. Cooked dinner & watched the movie Max (war hero dog). I've been cooking more since we moved into our new place and Ana gave me an oven! So far, I've made brownies, cookies, banana bread, lasagna, porkchops & veggies.... And tonight, I made brisket , but it turned out more like a pot roast with and roasted veggies. Going to the store is not a one stop shop....I have to go to several different stores all over town to get the necessities. Today Charlie and I went to a "western food" store and I was able to find liquid smoke for the brisket. When I went to the grocery store for the meat, I had to show the butcher the picture of the cow to try to get the right cut since nothing is in English. I have yet to go to any store that has a true brisket cut.... I think I'm getting more of the shank (according to the picture) but hey close enough;-) The "shank brisket/roast" turned out pretty good!
