I've always struggled with colours but I think when it comes to using a reference, I like to take the main colour from the reference and then plan around that! For example: my background drawing of the train, I took the green from the trian and decided to use analogous colours! Another exmaple: my food sketchbook drawing, I took the warm reds and browns from the foods and chose a complimentary colour pallet and added greens. Sorry for the long explanation, but to sum it up, I basically choose a main colour and plan around that with colour harmonies!! I hope that helps!✨🥹🥹
