Plot 002. Killing Allie [OPEN]

PLOT:

TJ Welby was always getting into trouble throughout his entire life. By the time he was 13, he was drinking and smoking while hanging out with the older kids. Troubled by his behaviors, he was sent to boarding school by his parents as a way to take him out of the environment that was so toxic for him. He grew up in Florida but was sent up to Connecticut in his sophomore year of high school.

He loved his new school, Rosemary, and started to lead a different life than the one he had at home. His favorite part of school was his best friend Annie Delaurier. She was a freshman at the time and they were inseparable. What made his life even better was when Annie introduced him to her older sister Allie.

TJ and Allie began dating halfway through his first year at Rosemary. He and Annie’s friendship suffered as he began to spend less time with her and more time with her sister. Their friendship had almost disappeared completely when Allie Delaurier was found dead in the Rosemary quad.

Her death was ruled a homicide and they were looking for suspects. TJ was the last person seen with her and was eventually arrested for her murder. His DNA was on her clothes. Without a sound alibi, his fate was sealed when the details of his troubled past in Florida came to light.

The Delaurier family was happy to see the court find TJ guilty for their daughter’s murder and carted off to a juvenile detention center. The Welby’s, on the other hand, saw no justice in their son’s conviction and appealed the case. After another trial, once TJ had been detained for six months, he was acquitted for a lack of evidence. He was released and returned to Rosemary, back as a sophomore to complete school. 

Annie Delaurier didn’t know how to feel about her sister’s murder. TJ was her best friend and she trusted him. But when evidence about him came up in the first trial, she was devastated and began to question his innocence. By the end of the trial, she believed her former friend was guilty and relieved when he was convicted. 

Her parents were skittish to allow Annie to return to Rosemary after her sister’s murder, but they assumed the killer was caught and agreed to allow her to return. Right before her junior year, TJ’s appeal was announced. They were back in court, digging up all the facts Annie thought had been buried. Her summer was spent redoing what had been done, but with a different outcome. TJ was acquitted.

The Delaurier’s were still sure TJ wouldn’t be back at Rosemary for the new school year. Annie returned only to see her old best friend there as well. His guilt was fixed in her mind, as well as everyone else at their school. He was tortured and called a murderer. The boy’s safe haven became his personal hell. But what made it even worse was that his best friend thought he was a murderer. He thought that maybe he could convince her of his innocence if she would just talk to him. That didn’t seem to be happening as she avoided him at every turn. Instead, he decided to solve the murder.
