I love desire paths. There's something so wonderous about seeing an echo of humanity. Depending on it's location, a desire path can mean so many different things.
In a city, like the pic above, they represent rebellion, and efficiency. The messiness of humanity. We like to imagine we're oh so logical and neat so we design our cities to be logical and neat an then real humans literally trample on that idea. The ego required to think you can design something perfect that checks every box. Life is all about compromise and patching stuff when some new problem arises. Though people have certainly tried! Ohio state univeristy let students carve their desire paths, and then paved them over. It looks pretty artsy.
Some people will try to discourage desire paths, but this is almost always going to fail.
Eventually, people just have to accept them. Humans are too dang stubborn.
Certain desire paths are just adorable. A 0.5 second time saver. You just can't design for maximum efficiency, humans will always find shortcuts!
Though on occasion a desire path can actually be the least efficient way...especially if you're superstitious.
In a wilder area, such as below, they show us the curiosity of humans. A desire path somewhere natural often tells you there's something interesting just ahead. (Though remember some ecosystems are fragile and will suffer if trampled! Stick to paths in these sorts of areas)
And how about desire stairs? I always think these look so cool. We get see humans determination to climb, to traverse every kind of terrain.
And for something really crazy...a desire path used for centuries will create a 'holloway'
All of these pics are off the Desirepath subreddit, check them out for more examples! And many thanks to the users who submitted these photos.
I ever knew this had a name, and it sounds so intriguing. reposting so I can look into this later.
Donât scroll past this. Kylie Armstrong was diagnosed with breast cancer and these small dimples were the only signs. She posted the image on Facebook so everyone knows that âthat breast cancer is not always a detectable lump.â Hereâs how Kylie is doing today.
(If youâre not sure how to do a self breast exam, instructions can be found at BreastCancer.org.)
This could save a life!
I know someone who caught her own breast cancer because she realized her nipples were sometimes inverting which she had never experienced before. Her primary initially tried to excuse it as normal (because it is normal for some) but she pushed the issue because she knew it was weird that it had never happened to HER breasts before. She was stage 3 already, but eventually became cancer free. If she hadnât trusted herself and advocated for herself she likely would have bee stage 4 before she had a lump or other common symptoms and by then it would have bee terminal.Â
WANTED PLEASE READ
I am looking for Tagl [deviantart] CeciArtwork [youtube] art book volume 2.
Book needs to be fully intact and of decent quality. I have some of my characters in it based on a trade commission that I did with her and wanted the pieces (there are 8 or 9 of them) because all of my originals but one were lost. Â I was thinking about pmâing her to see if I could either get prints or book later this year only to go to her page and see some of the comments and then learn about what happened.
âââââÂ
I hope it doesnât seem in poor taste, but if anyone has volume 2 of her art book and is willing to part with it; I can offer art in return. I am offering any commission valued under $60 or you may also choose to get any number of commissions totaling $60.
You will send the book and thenI will worm on your commission. Â If you live in the US, Iâll pay for your shipping.
Alternatively, if you can do high res scans for me to print, then Iâll do $30 worth of commissions.
Please see my trello at https://trello.com/b/cDij2UHv/commissions

why canât people accept âthe media is over-hyping coronavirusâ and âcoronavirus is concerning given the lack of knowledge surrounding itâ are both true? like can I order some nuance
and also "stop panicking about dying because most deaths will be due to previous immunocompromisation" and "we should work to reduce the spread as much as possible to keep those immunocompromised safe" are both true
Also "immunocompromised people don't just exist in theory and a large amount of people actually have previous conditions so telling anyone they're 'too concerned' is not okay"
In case you are wondering what makes you a high risk group: literally ANY lung problems (aside from asthma, which lowers your chnace of catching the disease), meaning everyone with a history of recurring lung infections or bronchitis, COPD, just smokers in general; also anyone with an autoimmune disorder like rheumatism (which is NOT exclusively an old person disease) and a bunch of other common conditions like coronary problems or diabetes
If you are not one if these people, you probably know a lot of them often without even knowing
(Also, because the media somehow seems to leave that out: the most concerning thing about coronavirus is actually how fast it mutates. There are already a myriad of strains around and scientists are really worried that the more it spreads the more dangerous it will become.)
fucks sake
god dammit
Okay now which one is clearer? 1?
or 2?
Maybe just take off the glasses!?

Stressed but not Pressed
-repost from my blog Gothic Sugar at https://gothicsugar.weebly.com
Hi, everybody. Â Gothic Sugar here. Okay, so there's a lot going on in the world right now and I've had to kind of fall back from things that I wanted to do because I was pretty much overwhelmed. So, we have COVID-19 going on, stress. Â I then was able to have a little money and thought, let me go get my website. Â I found out that someone stole my whole name, branding, fonts, colors, everything in an attempt to sell their merch and other crap. Stress, with a capital s. It really pissed me off and I contacted them took screenshots, and waited. It's been about a month almost and they still haven't gotten back to me, meaning that they don't care. So now I have to find a lawyer which I can't really afford right now to get everything squared away and protect my name. Then we have the protests and everything going on with Black Lives Matter. More stress. Â I happen to be black and I feel like there's something I should do, but I physically can't protest, financially, can't donate, and so I'm only able to maybe sign a few petitions, but I've been feeling like what's really going to happen is that they're going to try to placate us with hopes that everything will just go away. Â And that's disheartening. So here I am, trying to get back into the swing of things and just live my life with hopes that things will turn around. I'ts been difficult because I haven't been making art or felt like making it for a while. As I went through google, I realized that a lot of other people had been using "Gothic Sugar" and either knowingly or unknowingly applying it to their art and things that it shouldn't be attached to. I can't even begin to explain how I feel about that because I've had this moniker for 13 years now and I've been online with it for 12 of those 13 years. I made it up as a descriptor specifically for myself and my art. I have proof of being online with it since at least 2008 and remember 2007 in college when I came up with it.
Here's a piece I did for someone over on instagram who wanted a cosplay portrait of herself as Honey from Ouran High.

A woman-of-color who writes poetry or paints or dances or makes movies knows there is no escape from race or gender when she is writing or painting. She canât take off her color and sex and leave them at the door or her study or studio. Nor can she leave behind her history. Art is about identity, among other things, and her creativity is political.
Gloria AnzaldĂşa, Making Face/Making Soul: Haciendo Caras â Creative and Cultural Perspectives by Women of Color (via jalwhite)
Maybe this is a crazy question, but how did Europeans know what Africans looked like? I know that some of the paintings here are of North Africans/Middle Easterners, but others clearly depict people born south of the Sahara. I've heard of Prester John but I never imagined that medieval Europeans were aware that Prester John would have had brown skin. Am I missing something?
Like. There are a lot of things I could say here. But Iâm just going to do my best to answer your question, and the answer is either very simple or very complicated, depending on your current point of view.
1. âTheyâ knew what people with brown skin looked like because people with brown skin had been there literally THE ENTIRE TIME. Some (and father back, ALL) of âthemâ had brown skin themselves.
2. âPeople with Brown Skinâ and âEuropeansâ are not separate and mutually exclusive groups.
3. No matter how far back you go, the mythical time that youâre looking for, when all-white, racially and culturally isolated Europe was ârealâ, will continue to recede from your grasp until it winkles out the like imaginary place it is.
We can just keep going back. In every area, from all walks of life, rich and poor, kings and peasants, artists and iconoclasts, before there were countries and continents, before there were white people.

The time when âEVERYONEâ in Europe was White does not exist. They knew what people with brown skin looked like because they were there. They knew what âAfricansâ looked like because they were there, and they werenât âtheyâ, they were us, or you. I think what youâre missing is something that never existed.
(^-^) Someone finally said it.
