Amara

Despite knowing the existence of the supernatural, of werewolves and vampires and witches and demons, Kylie knew there were no such things as ghosts. At least, not the type of ghosts you see in the movies, that you could see and interact with.

That knowledge was tested the minute Kylie saw Andie walking down the street.

She had to be dreaming. Or this was a hallucination. Or something.

“Andie?” she called out, just in case, taking a few steps forward. It couldn’t be … could it?

Amara stopped when the young woman called out to her. No, not her. Andie. The reaper recognized her from the memories that her vessel held. “I’m sorry. I’m not Andie” she said, keeping it at that for now.

“Whiskey sour, please and thank you.” Amelia called as she headed over to the table, grabbing the karaoke book as she sat down to flick through it and try and find something they could do as a group first. “What genre? Are we firmly sticking in pop? Assuming Amara knows the songs.” She giggled.

“I don’t know many songs, but I’d probably know more of the popular ones than anything else,” Elena admitted, glancing over at Amelia before turning back to the drink menu. “Um. I’ll just start with some wine,” she decided, not wanting to go in on the hard liquor just yet. Besides, she drank so infrequently, a single glass of wine would probably get her tipsy.

“We don’t have to stick to pop, but they probably do make the best karaoke songs” It’s what the reaper had observed at least “that and 80s music.” she took note of the drinks and went over to the bar, returning soon with three in hand, “so what’d we decide on?” she asked, setting the proper drinks down in front of the other two.

Noah looked down at the floor between them as Amara scolded him lightly. “She doesn’t really have anyone good in her life right now, Amara,” he said softly. “She’s only going to get worse unless I’m there for her. I-I might be able to put her on a better path. I-I have to try …”

Amara let out a soft, frustrated sigh at this, “and what happens if you can’t and you get hurt again? I’m not just talking physically. Are you prepared to fail because that could happen.”

Noah didn’t respond to her second question. “I think … maybe I can stop her from hurting people if I let her hurt me instead. Let her use me as her toy when she needs that … but I made a promise to my vessel that I wouldn’t let anyone hurt him ever again.” He sighed, his shoulders slumping. “I don’t know how to keep that promise and keep Lizzie from hurting people at the same time.”

“No” the word came out immediately in protest after Noah had told her his idea. “You are not letting her hurt you, and she’s not your responsibility Noah. I know you feel like she is, but she’s not.”

“It wouldn’t change things for me anyway. My kind were always destined for purgatory. Our final curse. As if we hadn’t been cursed enough already.” She looked down at her hands. “I suppose it is difference. you get to experience life for the first time despite having already existed. You could use that body for everything it was meant to experience without the hinderances that some of us have been cursed with.”

“Yes, I suppose that’s true” she said, “I have my hindrances, just because they aren’t as visible or known as yours doesn’t mean I’m without them, and you’re wrong about being able to use this body for everything it was meant to experience.” 

Not expecting the woman to talk to her, Celeste hadn’t been looking in Amara’s direction.  When she glanced to the reaper and saw an expectant expression on her features she gave a sheepish smile.  “I’m sorry, what was that?”

“Coffee” she repeated, “Noah gets me some sometimes when I visit, but he’s with someone right now, so I’m not exactly sure where to get it from.” Amara studied her for a moment, getting a familiar feeling off of the woman. :You’re not from around here are you?” 

Noah’s smile faded at the question. “I don’t know,” he admitted. “I think … I’m struggling. I think … I still have feelings for Lizzie. I know she’s done really bad things, but I think … maybe I can help her. I have an idea, but I’m worried … I made a promise to someone, and if I do the idea it’ll break that promise.” He bit his lip. “I don’t know what to do. I just want her to be happy without hurting anyone.”

Amara frowned a little as he mentioned still having feelings for Lizzie. The person who was the reason he’d been so upset those months ago. She inhaled a little, listening as he went on “What’s your idea?” she asked before adding, “You know you’re too good for her, right?” 

“I doubt many intend to die. I’ve tried enough times throughout the centuries. Turns out it’s not so easy to kill an Original.” Briana looked her over. “Don’t you get tired of pretending to be young? I know I do.”

“Most don’t” Amara stated, “though I was more meaning I wouldn’t suggest trying to die anytime soon. Good, bad, human, or something else it doesn’t matter, no one’s going any place good at the moment. “ The reaper thought over her question, “I don’t know. I haven’t pretended as long as you have. Existing here, like this is entirely new to me. This.” she made a gesture to herself  “Flesh and bone and blood isn’t the norm for me.”

Keziah arched an inquisitive brow. “So… do you want to veils to be fixed?” She asked, uncertain. “Things go back to normal and everyone goes back to doing whatever it is we did before.” How boring. The Sin pointed a french fry at the other woman. “Quite frankly, I like the way things are now.”

“I used to.” Amara spoke after a moment, “now I’m not so sure what I want. It’s not even the damn veils, the whole fucking thing needs fixing.” The reaper had spoken to Lucifer about things, and he did seem to be moving towards that, and he hadn’t given her a reason not to trust him...yet. “It is more fun now” Amara had to admit, “Just with a number of annoyances and inconveniences.” 

“The air always feels different when one of you is around.” Briana said quietly before looking up to catch Amara’s gaze. “We draw you in I think. We freaks of nature. Not born like everything else but made. Death held in suspension.” She tugged at her hair a little. “I plan on avoiding needing one of you till my afterlife is secure. Knowing one of us is spending his afterlife adrift, in-between. Makes me sick. Why should I be denied rest in heaven just because of what someone else did to me?” @amarareap·

"Maybe" she gave a shrug, vampires truly did have a different feel to them than others. Amara wasn't sure if it was the same for other reapers, but it felt like a soul that was decaying . Still intact but not with the same life as it had had before their turning. "You shouldn't be. I'd probably hold off on dying anytime soon anyways."
