Today, just learning from books is not enough. We all read theories and notes, but when it comes to real life, we often do not know how to use them. That’s why learning practical skills is very important.

Theory gives us an idea or concept, but practical knowledge helps us understand how to actually do it. For example, a marketing student can learn all the marketing terms from books, but when they do an internship or a small project, they get to know how things work and what are the needed skills for that field. In fact there are some people who do not know theory very well but sitting at a good profile just because of their practical knowledge which they have developed by working in the field.

Practical skills make us more confident and ready for jobs. When we try things ourselves, we make mistakes, learn from them and get better. This gives us real experience that books alone can’t teach. Although theories are also a very crucial part of any project or work but theories alone can make individual blind of what is coming next because practical implications are generally a lot different.

Still, despite the clear savings most of us hesitate to buy them. Instead, we often end up purchasing a brand-new phone with lower features just because it’s new.

Even though refurbished mobiles, laptops and other electronics are now easily available on trusted platforms like Amazon Refurbished, Cashify and others, the second-hand market continues to face problems in India. This is mainly due to social and mental factors.

Trust Issues

The biggest problem is trust. Many people are unsure whether refurbished devices are really reliable or worth the money. Questions like Has the phone been used roughly before?, Will it work like a new one? or What if it stops working soon? make buyers doubtful. Unlike a new product, the dependability of a used device always feels uncertain.

Image & Social Perception

There’s also an image factor. In India, owning a new phone is often seen as a status symbol. Many people avoid second-hand devices because they feel it could affect their image or make them look “less” in front of others.

Performance Concerns

Electronic devices like mobiles and laptops lose quality over time. Since we can’t always know how the previous owner used them, people worry about issues like weak battery, slow performance or hidden problems.

Once somebody asked me: why is it that when we walk into a store with only a few things in mind, we end up buying a lot more?

The answer lies in psychology. There are many concepts working at the same time—our emotions, personal thinking, the image a product creates, and of course, the most famous one: FOMO (Fear of Missing Out). A prime example is the Flipkart Big Billion Day sale. We often buy things we don’t even need at that moment, just because of the urgency it creates. Take the iPhone: people don’t just buy it for its performance or features, they buy it for the confidence and pride it brings.

Then there are tricks like bright packaging, nostalgic ads, or the illusion of deals—₹999 instead of ₹1000, or “Buy One Get One Free.” Our brain convinces us that we’re saving money, even if we’re actually spending more. These marketing tactics subtly push us to buy more than we planned.
