A knight stumbles across the Door, and wanders in. They are tempted to look for their head here... but they just want to explore whatever is inside out of pure curiosity.
- @semi-headless-semicolon
[The place is a mess. There are papers scattered about the floor, random gadgets strewn across the table and a giant lazer cannon next to a table. An empty potion bottle is on the floor as well, among the papers. It seems abandoned.]
...
[A loud THUMP can be heard from somewhere in the general direction of the blue tree.]
Curiosity leads the knight to follow whatever is making that loud THUMP. They know their head probably wouldn't be here... but they're too interested in everything else to focus on that.
--
The clanking of metal can be heard in the distance.
[Not too far away from the tree, there is a section of the glass-like ground that is cracked. The air here is cold.]
...
[First a low growl, then another THUMP, this time louder. The cracks grow, and it looks like a piece of the ground has loosened.]
They watch the cracks in the ground loosen. Even in their armor, they can't help but shiver. Was it just the air that's cold? Or the chill on their armored back?
[With another THUMP, the loosened shard pops out of the ground and a foot or so into the air, landing sideways next to where it was.]
[Underneath, something large is moving. It appears to be teal in some places, though faintly illuminated with both teal and white light. Most of it is too dark to see.]
The knight takes off their helmet, their flame head glowing. It's... some light. With the faint illumination of whatever is underneath the soil, maybe it can take a closer look. But... if they startle whatever is down there by using light... they don't know if something bad may happen. Especially if they put themselves head first into the cracking ground.
Perhaps they should try to speak with whatever is down there. Try to make themselves sound as friendly as possible.
...Hello? Anyone down there?
[It almost seems... shiny? Like a pitch-black fluid, interspersed with curved spikes of teal.]
[Suddenly, it slams its entire body against the underside of the floor, shrieking in what can only sound like conviction. The ground nearly shatters.]
EXPERIMENTS!!
[Its voice is... inhuman.]
...Experiments? Like... what type? (I've never been an exclam of science...)
...What?
[A white glowing asterisk can be seen from under the ground, before it squints, then disappears out of sight.]
Perplexing... what is a being like yourself doing in an old psychopath's laboratory?
[A dark, fluid-esque hand emerges, trying to break off some glass shards from the side. It shifts ever so slightly, having three claws some times and other times four.]
I... was originally looking for my head, and I found the door that lead to here. I probably won't find it in here, but I'm just running off of pure curiosity at the moment.
The knight sounds a bit scared when the fluid-esque hand emerges from the broken soil.
[The hand breaks off a chunk of ground and retreats, before two emerge, attempting to open the gap yet wider.]
It is not impossible, they are far from the ethical being they proclaim to be. Not even I am aware of all they have used, stolen or kept locked away.
Howsoever, waiting here for them to return to this land during your search will give rise only to sorrow.
I... wasn't aware someone else owned this lab. (Are you saying they may have taken my head? I do not completely understand.)
Perchance. An orange question mark owns this land, they have stolen uncountable times more than they have gained fairly.
[The hands retreat, each with a freshly broken shard, before three white glowing asterisks can be seen from the pit. Are those.. the being's eyes?]
The knight stares back at the pit.
An eyeless being, staring at one with many eyes.
(Well, If I can find them, maybe I'll get my head back.)
[With one final motion of its horns, the ground shatters enough to make room for it to emerge from its place in the ground. Its form is constantly shifting in ways that look simultaneously like it has changed slightly and stayed completely the same.]
[It looks around the lab, before its gaze eventually settles on the knight. It tilts its head, raising an eyebrow in intrigue.]
Even without eyes... the knight stares at you. They seem... ghost-like.
Ah, it's nice to meet you. Sorry about suddenly coming in like that through the Door.
[It slinks out of the pit and away from the tree. It doesn't have legs, rather being more akin to a snail or slug. It almost looks like it's melting. There are teal horns shaped almost like anchors, or ā̷͜ü̸̩t̵̨͂h̶̩͊o̴̺̓ř̶̬i̵̡͐t̸̮͆ÿ̴͉́ ̶͎͗p̴̫͋o̸̖̐i̵̠͂n̴͇͒t̶͘s protruding from its back.]
It is no bother, I despise this land anyhow.
[It pauses a moment, squinting its eyes, gaze focused on the various devices on the table, as well as the lazer cannon.]
Unsurprising... their endeavors appear.. frenetic, leastways at present.
You talk about this orange question mark like you know them. Do you?
[It nods solemnly, before examining the lazer cannon.]
Not only do I know them, it was their actions which led to my creation.
[It seems to pay more attention specifically to the small red circular magnet attached to the machine.]
I won't ask you any more questions relating to them, if your comfortable with that. Sorry.
My creation... does becoming a ghost count as being created into the world? Or am I only in a different state of being?
[It presses its face into the grate of the lazer, moving through it like viscous fluid as it looks around at the mechanisms. Its horns are pushed to the back of its head as it does this.]
As I suspected, utilizing heat...
[It retreats from the lazer cannon, turning to inspect the furnace gun on the table, which is marked with a red magnet as well.]
The matter of my creation does not perturb me. As for you, should your memories preceding remain intact, a state change more resembles the truth.
...call it what you will, though.
...What do you think all of this was used for? Melting something? Warming something?
Indubitably, though the use of more intense weaponry gives rise to its own questions.
[It looks over the rest of the table. Various tools are lying around, and there is an unopened null potion on the table as well. It picks up the potion, looking suspiciously at it.]
Peculiar...
You are definitely right about that. I haven't seen that type of weaponry that often... or at all, now that you mention it. I might just be remembering wrong...
Semi shakes their non-existent head.
A Null potion... A failsafe for emergencies, I'd imagine. I've seen them a few times, before I died. They were pretty common, although I'm not sure if they're used for the same thing nowadays.
Do not discount your observations so hastily. This is the mad one's domain, their items are improvised more often than not.
I cannot speak for times of old, however I believe such potions are utilized by those whom have misstepped one too many times, and are in need of a refresh.
[It puts the potion back on the table before examining various papers scattered around the floor. Most of the papers are documents about diseases, infections, and Exclamania history, though one seems to be a log of sorts, written in a shaky handwriting. It picks up and skims through the handwritten page.]
Hm...
What have you found?
[It continues skimming through the paper for a moment, reading enough for context, but nothing more. It didn't need more.]
Answers to all questions, save for one...
...where are they now?
[It hands Semi the paper, materializing an illusion of a copy of it to look over in more detail. The log reads the following:]
Week 1: Small blood-orange dot left by needle. This log will probably be filed away with the other short-term injury logs. Note: Coldflame hurts twice as much as standard fire.
Week 2: Huh. There's a bit of ice on my hand...? I can't get it off.
Week 3: This might interfere with my other experiments...
Week 4: Healing potions aren't working. It's not a status effect. A blowtorch doesn't melt it. Maybe darkness will make it disappear.
5: OH NO
[With each week, the handwriting gets slightly worse. Weeks 4 and 5's text is speckled with blue, 5 having more than 4.]
Oh... oh dear...
You are right about that last question. Here I find myself wondering where this exclam's at now... much like you.
[It glares at the knight, suspiciously.]
I suspect we do not share a similar reason for this question. You seem quite concerned for them...
[The illusion in its hands dissipates, and it looks toward the door, before slinking quickly over to investigate. The door has no frame, a simple purple door with black and lavender stripes along it with seemingly random spacing. There is no wall behind it.]
A new addition... were their portals not enough..?
[It slinks, stretches and curls around the door in various ways, taking a good look, in as many angles as it cares to.]
A knight stumbles across the Door, and wanders in. They are tempted to look for their head here... but they just want to explore whatever is inside out of pure curiosity.
