When it was time for me to do my annotations I sat down and write all of the important parts in the book that stuck out the most. Out of these I picked three that were located in the right places. These were parts that mostly stick to me because of some dramatic or some big event that happened. Since I liked those parts it was also easy to annotate them.

Writing my general introduction seemed really easy at first because I knew exactly how I wanted it. That was in my head of course but when it got to paper it looked nothing like what I expected. It took me a while for me to actually want to sit down and work on it properly because I had just little ideas here and there. At the end I was satisfied with my results because I actually sat down and took a careful look at it and tried to put it all together in a proper way.

So this is a picture of me at the OU library. When I first walked in I freaked out for minute because I was all by myself and I had no idea who to ask for help. I just walked up to a lady that was behind a desk and asked her who could help me she then directed me to the appropriate person. It was a gentlemen who was sitting at another desk and I went up to him immediately. I told him what I was looking for and he found it right away in the computer. He printed some papers out and took me right to where the books were. I was so excited and relieved, after that I took the books and sat down to read.

If I could choose a fictional character to be my prom date, I would choose Howard Roark. I think that it would be great for me to sit down with Mr. Roark and ask him all of the questions that I've always wanted to ask him. I find him very interesting because of the way he acts. He has great love for what he does and refuses to do things based on what others believe or think. For him his career is his religion and he devotes his life to it. Hanging out with Howard would be wonderful!

As I read my book I always wondered why the author put so much emphasis on describing many people in Esperanza’s life, which many times I didn’t find very important. However, this makes sense because it helps us understand how the people that pass through your life can have great impacts, even if you don’t think so. One of the things that we can learn from all of Esperanza’s relationships is that they are all part of what can be called her roots. Throughout the book Esperanza would many times say how much she wanted to leave Mango Street but at the end we see how she reflects on her people and changes her mind. She no longer wants to leave in order to lose where she came from, now she wants to leave in order to better herself and come back and help those who can’t help themselves. This is a great change in attitude and as I read along I realized that these people were the reason why Esperanza changed her mind. Even though she didn’t come from where she would have like to come from, she accepts it anyways and is now determined to make the best of it.

READING THE WORK 5 This is the last sentence of the whole book and it shows a change of mind in the main character. Esperanza, the main character, says that she will come back for those who "cannot out". For those who are stuck on mango street. This shows a change in attitude because she had said before that she didn't want to come back home once she left. Like many people today, Esperanza didn't feel that she belonged in the place where she was raised. Therefore, she wanted to leave it all behind. As she grew and matured her mind changed and we can see this in the last sentence. Now she realizes that she does belong in mango street and all those people there shaped her one way or another so she will come back to help those who cannot help themselves.

This goes back to my other post when I talked about the Main character feeling strange because she was now growing and viewing things differently. This is something that I think we all go through, every child that grows and starts looking at things differently feels as if they don’t belong where they are.

TEWWG 1-5 When I first started reading the book many times I would get confused when the characters were having a conversation. This is mainly because of the dialect that the characters use. It wasn't hard to read it but when I got to a word that I didn't really understand I would stumble through the text and it made it hard for me to understand what the characters were saying. However, after getting used to the dialect it was really easy to read. I realized that after a little while I started reading without even realizing the difference in the language. I liked that Hurston used this dialect because it made the whole setting of the story come alive in my head. I would picture all these people talking to each other just in the same way that it was in the book. So even though it was a bit confusing to me at first, now I see how it's become natural for me to read the text.

This is something that we can all relate to because we all grow out of childhood. This happens without us even realizing it sometimes but one day all of a sudden we start thinking about it and it might give us a strange feeling. Also it’s not just our bodies that change. Our surroundings change as well and the way that we view things. One day everything seems nice and cozy and the next everything is strange and uncomfortable.

I talked to one of my classmates about this and the feedback I got was great. She told me that I should just look at all these titles as little short stories that go together with the main character’s life. After the conversation with my classmate my view on the way it’s written changed and it started to become easier to read the book.

I chose to read the house on mango street because I had a very good experience reading Sandra Cisneros other works. I also chose this book because I felt that I was going to be able to relate to the main character. I realized that this was true right in the first paragraph. In the first paragraph the main character talks about moving. All her life she has been moving from place to place. This is something that I can definitely relate to because I’ve moved a lot! But the Main character also says that the house on mango street is theirs, this is the house they bought. It’s not perfect and not what they thought their house would look like but it’s theirs. I can also relate to this because now the house I live in belongs to my family and even though it’s not what I thought, it’s still ours.

As I started to search for books to read I once again came across "The House On Mango Street". Since I knew that I was interested in this book before, I put it in my "maybe" list. As I searched for other books I kept on thinking about this one. This was the moment when I realized that this was the book that I was going to read. I have only read Cisneros' poetry before so I think that this is going to be a good experience. I can also relate to the main character because the book tells a story of a Latina girl and I am a Latina girl. Even though I am not in the same situation as the main character, there are still many things that we have in common.

I first came across “The House On Mango Street” when we were doing our poetry unit. I chose Sandra Cisneros as my mentor poet and as I did research on her I came across a couple of books that she had written. This one really caught my eye because even though it is written as a fictional story it is based on Cisneros actual upbringing. I thought that the book was nice and maybe one day I’ll be to read it but that was all. I never looked back on the book
