so, whats the veredict on the anne hathaway's films dtwp2 and mother mary? any expectations about the odyssey?
DWP2 was SO much better than I expected or needed it to be....Kelsey and I went to see it a second time a month after its initial release weekend because the big screen experience was so good. My favorite movie podcasters (This Had Oscar Buzz hosts) said this one was a real Hathaway showcase and I agree. She really carried and did the effortless movie star thing. Emily Blunt was also SO fucking funny, she should do more comedy.
Mother Mary was also a real treat, I wish I'd gotten to catch it on the big screen but it barely stayed in theaters here and it was only showing wiin the window when I couldn't drive post-op. The performances are so good and the filmmaking/visuals were impeccable. Loved Anne and Michaela Coel together. It's so metaphorical AND theatrical that it's hard not to feel a little distant from the emotions of it all, but just such a fascinating central relationship and premise, with such smart details. Anne doing the dance without music, incredible.
I expect to be pretty bored by The Odyssey to be honest. I can't think of any movie I like that features battle armor, it's just really not my vibe, but I'll still probably see it both for Anne and because it's going to be the primary film conversation later this year. I'm more looking forward to The End of Oak Street - I love It Follows and am very fond of Ewan McGregor, so I have some hopes for the collab. I'm even more looking forward to Verity tbh, because I had a great time watching The Housemaid and this looks like similar trash.
