A few comments, to give context to the calendar above:
There will be fewer events in 2024 than in our peak periods, but more than we thought there would be! We've gone by the Survey, to ensure all the top-scoring ones make an appearance in 2024.
However, next year we will try to mix it up and re-visit some of the events that didn't make it this year, or some new ones. Except 12 Days of Christmas and the FiKi Week - those are a given.
If you are into Britchell/Mitchers, please be aware that there is also the Britchell Tumblr organising events related to that pairing. Go, check them out. We've tried to make sure that the events don't clash - which is why we have some gaps.
Our sidebar on GatheringFiKi has been updated accordingly with links to this calendar and latest events. ;)

Film!Fili: Chunky boi. Doesn't so much enter a scene, as he barrels into it. Doesn't walk; he swaggers places, he strutts. Frequently falls down from multiple storeys height with not a scratch on him, neatly rolls over and emerges swords drawn and with a cute little rawr. For a hobby, enjoys riding battle rams, while pirouetting vaguely in the general vicinity of their backs and slaying orcs. Robust. Brave. Strong. Square. Much squarer than Kili. Obviously a figure of authority, resilience and gravitas that Kili looks up to like a wolf pup looks up to a full moon, hoping that one day he might howl loud enough for the moon to Notice Him. In fact, Fili might have hung the moon up there for him in the first place.
Sugarsu!Fili: Dainty baby. Gentle and dreamy. Handle with care. Adorn in daisies. Carry around in your arms, bridal-style. PROTECT AT ALL COST. Obviously the younger brother, if I didn't know any better. Much smaller frame and silhouette than Kili. Might faint if faced with a more violent outburst of sneezing from one of the Company. Kili is his brave protector, a knight in shining armour (literally) and a somewhat oblivious recepient of all of Fili's dramatic sighs. 120% uke to Kili's seme. Enjoys ikebana as a hobby, probably. Might attract wild unicorns with his ethereal beauty - (listen, it's not his fault)
Not that I have any complaints about this stunning art from a hugely talented artist, in glorious technicolour, and a plentiful supply. I am Sugarsu's #1 fan and eternally grateful for all the art we have been blessed with.
It just always cracks me up how vastly different people's interpretation of the same character can be!

I spontaneously wrote a short prequel to my nearly (!!) finished story called âRipped apartâ.

FĂli had seen them looking. They were staring and pointing when KĂli was close to him, when he and KĂli were together, just talking and holding hands. The councilmembers tried to be discreet, but FĂli noticed their scrutiny anyway.
Thorin's new council had formed within weeks of the great battle at their doorstep. The necessity of a council in Erebor had become painfully clear in the weeks directly following the battle. Balin had been run ragged to keep up-to-date on all the rebuilding, trades, cleanup, payments and new citizens, but it was just too much for him and Thorin to manage.
The council had a specific function. Thorin needed them to be his eyes and ears to keep up with everything happening within and around the mountain. They were tasked with researching and advising Thorin on all matters deemed important by them.Â
Most of the councilmembers were old, some had even served FĂliâs great-grandfather ThrĂłr.
Most of them were set in their ways, steadfast in their beliefs.
Most of them had rumors of corruption surrounding them, but none of these accusations had ever been proven.
All of them had too much power.
Their staring continued over the weeks that followed. Their whispers stopped when FĂli got too close. Their long documents were quickly hidden away when he walked past them. Something was wrong.
He confided in KĂli first. "They're just old and can't handle the sight of so much love and beauty when they look at us." KĂli joked. FĂli laughed along, but in the back of his mind warning bells were going off. He needed to keep KĂli away from them.
He confided in his mother. She was thoughtful, promising to look into it.Â
He did not tell Thorin until he had overheard a councilmember mention KĂli by name while scowling and gesturing wildly. KĂli was no longer safe.
Thorin was busy, he always was, but he generally made time for his nephew. âCome in.â Thorin invited after the knock, putting down a folder of papers on top of a wobbly stack of other files.
FĂli thanked both his uncle and the member of staff who provided them with a cup of tea.
"It was a long day." FĂli sighed after they had both taken their first sip.
"And many such days will follow this one. It is the burden of ruling." Thorin agreed.
"I did not expect to be talking and sitting quite as much as I have been." FĂli confessed.
Thorin laughed. "It is different from our lives in the Blue Mountains and our life on the road." Thorin agreed. "But we can accomplish much more from our seats now than we ever could with our swords."
"It depends on what we want to accomplish." FĂli countered. "A band of orcs can hardly be thwarted from behind a desk."
"TouchĂŠ."
The fire in the hearth provided a welcome noise during FĂliâs silence. Thorin looked at him expectantly. Everybody knew FĂli rarely visited for purely social reasons. There was always a purpose.
"I wanted to speak to you about the council." FĂli started after a particularly loud pop in the fireplace.
Thorinâs fingers tightened around his cup.
"What about them?"
"Perhaps I've read the situation wrong, but they seem preoccupied. By me and KĂli.â
Thorin frowned, pausing before saying âIt seems only natural the council would take an interest in the heir to the throne of Erebor.â
FĂli felt his heart hammer in his ears. Thorin must have said it deliberately. The singular heir. Him and KĂli had always been the heirs, especially since their bond as Ones was publically acknowledged by Thorin. Â
âSo they are interested in me specifically?â FĂli asked, careful of his phrasing. He gripped his mug to keep his hands from shaking.
âIn KĂli as well of course, but you especially. You are the most important Dwarf in the mountain after all. After me of course.â Thorinâs smile was strained. He put his cup down and folded his hands tightly together. âI am afraid our time is up. I want to finish this before I head to bed.â
FĂli nodded as he got up. He tried to smile, but his face felt numb. His suspicions had been confirmed. Something was brewing.
"I would never." Anders said decidedly, while simultaneously trying to stay awake. He did not really want to listen to Mitchell describing the insane dream he had a few nights ago, but Mitchell's naked body was plastered to his own, his head on Anders' shoulder, so Anders went along with it.
"That's not the point." Mitchell replied, clearly feeling put out by Anders' less than enthousiastic response. "I hardly ever dream of fun stuff. It's always- you know-". He did not say blood and screaming people, but Anders heard it nonetheless.
"How is dreaming of us running a haunted hotel together fun?"Â
"What's not to like? Meeting new people, talking to the ghosts, maybe even helping them solve their unsolved business."
"First of all, so much work, 24/7, always. Running a small business is a lot, could you imagine something as big as a hotel? No thank you."
Mitchell huffed, mumbling something about hiring people.
"That makes it even worse. Bragi would be working overtime to keep everybody happy and working. Managing Dawn is already a fulltime job."
"You're an asshole."Â
"My point exactly. It would not be fun to run a hotel with me. Also, ghosts creep me the fuck out."
"How are ghosts worse than a vampire?"Â
"You can't fuck a ghost."
"You're impossible." Mitchell complained, but hugging him tighter anyway.
Weâre back and super excited to be running our first event of 2023! Broadly speaking, between the 21st and 31st of Oct you're welcome to come knocking on our door, asking for a Trick or Treat*!
* Some imagination will be required.
This event requires no sign-up. Usual pairings apply (FiKi preferably, or any fictional Dean/Aidan prtrayed characters).
Every day, there will be two new prompts available, one of the 'Trick' and one of the 'Treat' variety. Generally speaking, âTreatâ prompts are nice and âTrickâ prompts are not so nice/spooky. You pick one type. Prompts are not posted anywhere, so they remain a surprise until the first responses are posted.
If you wish to play on any particular day, please message @linane-art with whichever type of prompt you've chosen and you'll be given, for example, a 'Trick Prompt for 25th of Oct'. You must finish one response before requesting another.
Create something inspired by your prompt. Could be fanfic, fanart, edit, even some sort of meta about one of your own Verses, if you wish. You can take however long you want (but remember, there will be a new prompt available tomorrow). There are no word limits.
Post the thing you created on your Tumblr. Tags are garbage, but if you wanna use it, itâs #GFâs Trick or Treat 2023

If you've been with us for some time, following the mis-adventures of this little, but mighty fandom, or perhaps even taking part in them from time to time, you'll be delighted to hear that we are now in a position to resume normal service.
If you're joining us just now and wondering what on earth is going on - welcome! We are a small community focussed around the Fili/Kili pairing (and other fictional pairings fortrayed by Dean and Aidan), which has always traditionally ran frequent events to generate new content and encourage fan interactions.
Our activity was kinda suspended a year ago when our admin, @linane-art scampered off to travel the world for a year.
I have no idea why I'm writing this in 3rd person. Ahem, anyway - I'm back. And here's what I'd like to do with GatheringFiKi:
Firstly, I'd like to figure out how many content creators we actually have at the moment, since these folks are my audience. So if you are currently actively writing / creating artwork or edits in the Fili/Kili fandom, or plan on doing so in the near future, please REPLY TO THIS POST. Please also feel free to forward it to anyone who might want to respond.
Whatever else happens, there will be a 12 Days of Christmas event happening in 2023! I have no idea how many photosets I will actually be able to make before mid-November, but I'm aiming for at least a couple. It's such a highlight of every Christmas for me, I can't wait!
There may or may not also be some little prompts posted for Halloween this year. This would be about a week before the 31st, a very informal little event.
Whatever else happens, from now on, I would like to see GF becaome an amplifier for any and all new Fili/Kili content. Updates to your existing fics, new fics, artwork, edits, photosets, and not just the things 'worthy of recs'. ANY new Fili/Kili content - please submit or send us a link and we will re-blog, so it reaches more folks.
If we still have a decent number of creators, we will go back to running events. The plan would be to run a survery before the end of 2023 for you to pick your favourite events and run 3-4 of those accross 2024.
If we don't have creators, I will focus on delivering only the 12 Days of Christmas event annually and promoting any new FiKi content as above, based on the assumption that we're all reverting to focussing on our own works and posting them unprompted.
