if someone did vile things to holland in school and then changed their mind, but made no effort to actively support the lgbtq community (beyond just lip service) or enter a personal dialogue with holland/apologize to him, or otherwise is complacent thinking that changing their mind is just about enough? then yes. they’ve clearly not learned.

if the person is truly sincere and earnest? well, i’d think that a person like this wouldn’t hide themselves and would rather come forward and repent openly. they’d surely recognise holland, especially after he told his bullying story, so there’s that. but even imagining there was someone like that among his bullies, i still think it’s up to the individual fan/person to decide whether they want to support someone like that.

and ultimately, it depends on how severe it is what they did to him. there’s a difference between a bystander too scared to become a target themselves and someone who ties the noose around his neck. neither is acceptable, but one is worse than the other.

it’s not okay. these people literally drove holland into attempting suicide. they dragged him around by a rope around his neck. they were fine with him dying. absolutely fine. and people should not get away with this. people should not be successful and pretend to their fanbase like they’re the angel descended directly from the talent gods to bless them all. they should not be defended by their blind fans even though they are vile excuses for human beings. but they will be. and that is not okay
