Braingasmic Coffee: Bobo's Cold Brew
I was just in LA for a secret weekend. It was hot as hell, so I just padded down the closest cafe.Â
I wouldn't call myself a coffee snob - I don't complain when all that's available is watered down, utilitarian brownish liquid - but with the right cup'o joe, I'm a better human.
Not to judge a book by its cover, but ...I liked the bottle. It said NOIR, so I added my choice dairy+sweetener. What happened next was nothing less than a BRAINGASM.
"What is this elixir? What the hell is a cold brew?? Why does it feel like I'm drinking some high grade dark chocolate?!"
I did a quick google for ingredients. Surely it had cacao, or SOMETHING.... nada.
I needed more info. So I reached out to Bobo himself.Â
Turns out, "Bobo" is a Vietnamese-born San Diego resident.
Vietnam is the second largest exporter of coffee in the world, and one of his earliest memories is of his father taking him to a soccer club across the street from a coffee roasting facility. Â
"I still remember being completely transfixed by the sound of the crackling beans and the sweet chocolaty smell." Â
Â
Q:Â Why does my brain think it's drinking high grade dark chocolate?
A. That comes from our exclusive blend of beans, from central and South America, and roasting profile to achieve the chocolate note.
Q. Does that mean Cacao beans are involved?
A. I do not use cacao beans, just coffee beans and water.
Q. Â Have you infiltrated the rest of the world yet?
A. I'm only in California but expanding soon.
He's just launched this year, and you can join me in being an early adopter by buying from him, directly:
