📹 ︰ CREATURE FEATURE.
creature feature is a psychological horror youtube webseries created by foster dasgupta and produced with the help of red creek high school’s av club from 2013 to 2015. the series' official youtube account, creaturefeature0214, presented as foster’s personal account, chronicles materials from a set of vhs tapes that he recovered during an exploration of the thorne house, as well as the increasingly bizarre events in his life through vlogs while restoring, converting, and uploading materials from the tapes. the series was instrumental in creating a modern mythos around red creek's boogeyman, presenting the figure an almost omnipresent supernatural being ( similar to slenderman ) rather than just a serial killer. creature feature also presented real-life testimonies from red creek's residents who were alive during the 1999 murders to add realism, then combined with fictionalized accounts. majority of the cast of the series are also members of the local community, mostly foster's friends ( lmk if u want ur muse to have worked with him for this ). creature feature also employs transmedia storytelling through other platforms such as twitter, fake websites, reddit and other media to deliver a narrative that can only be completed by scavenging the internet, calling 1-800 numbers, contacting e-mail addresses with automated messages and going through rabbit holes to piece it all together. creature feature was often either believed to be true by watchers or attracted obsessive ARG players during the time they were uploaded, developing a cult following as their subscribers tirelessly waited for future updates. however, its authenticity was later debunked when foster, a high school student at the time, provided an interview about the series shortly after the final entry was uploaded as he needed to move away from california for college.

01. moved to red creek with aunt when he was eight yrs old after his parents were killed in what was ruled a home invasion, though nothing was taken and the killers were never found. foster suffers from dissociative amnesia from what happened, unable to recall anything from that night. set for life with the insurance payout, but barely touches it— unless necessary. 02. his father was a wildlife documentarian, so foster kind of developed the same love for film— except his usual subjects are people. always seen with a camera wherever he went as a kid, just filming anyone and everyone. has a collection of his own short films, but the ones that were made before high school are mostly stupid and just for fun. then he started taking it more seriously with creature feature as well as more serious shorts that were then submitted to film festivals and competitions. 03. after getting his mfa, foster had a film that did well in the indie film circuits, won some prizes for it, but eventually moved back to red creek for lack of inspiration. currently, he's working at the video store, but also doing side videographer gigs like filming for local commercials, weddings, etc. but he's hoping to get that inspiration and start obsessing over making a new film soon ... who knows, maybe the next one will be a horror film.
