So while watching all this Ghost in the Shell stuff I had a story idea. What if we went further down the line in Ghost in the Shell’s universe to the point where the end goal for humans is to become a machine. To the point where all humans capture their minds inside computers and live in virtual worlds. Where we explore space and other things using machines that we create from within the virtual world. In reality, we all live inside boxes that are connected to assembly lines and robots that can manufacture machines to explore the world for us. The human body is useless, so once a person is born, they are raised for 10 years outside the world, taking care of the machines’ maintenance and then transferred into the virtual world, letting their bodies decompose. And if there is ever a threat or an issue that the kids outside the world can’t handle, a person from inside the world can assemble a cyborg body and transfer their ‘ghost’ into it to live in the physical world until the issue is resolved. 

So the conflict/story I had is that a guy (who I imagined as Chris Pratt for some reason) is tasked to leave the virtual world to take care of a breach in the hard drive containment system. He leaves and finds that a family of tigers broke into the building, but aren’t doing anything to the machines. Yet he is supposed to shoot and kill them regardless. He has a small doubt, but he kills them anyways. As he lives outside the virtual world, he and the audience start to learn about how trashed the world has become since our stay on it, yet the world has found natural ways to clean up. Thus, nature has thrived on. He also finds out that man isn’t the top of the food chain anymore since the kids who live outside get killed sometimes and not all of them make it into the virtual world. The ones who die, are the kids who start to admire living outside; and the ones who live are the ones who live cooperatively with the machines and scorn the dead for trying to push past their comfort zone. The main hero realizes that humans have forgotten how to be human due to extreme virtualization of the human mind. So we try so hard to live within the confines virtuality and pretend that it’s paradise but there are humans who think living outside is better. Halfway into the movie, a terrorist group hacks into the cyborg manufacturing plant that Chris Pratt was made in, and the government who send him out tasks him into killing the new cyborg being made. But he watches the new cyborg being made and is marveled by it’s beauty. How humanity is created artificially. The cyborg that comes out is a female hacker activist that wants to destroy the virtual world and the reproductive section of the facility so that the government has to let people have the choice of living outside. Chris Pratt lets her escape by accident and she goes running off to do her hacker stuff. He is on a chase for the rest of the movie, but he runs into her every now and then and tries to stop her. But he doesn’t shoot her, he instead tries to convince her by saying the same stuff that the government says, that living inside is better and more free. And she keeps responding by critiquing on his ignorance and inhumanity. At the end, she is ready to destroy the reproduction plant and leave for the next facility via plane. But he is able to have a nice 6 minute philosophical talk (like the one at the end of Ghost in the Shell) that convinces her to stop, and at the same time convinces him to stay outside and live naturally. The movie ends with them taking the plane out of the plant and to another place, with the two of them considering their living options for the future and how to try and reproduce. 

After watching Ghost in the Shell (2017) I had an awesome (at least for me) short film idea. Or maybe it’s more of just an action sequence than a short film. I was thinking of the chase scene where Motoko goes invisible and fights the guy in the pond. How about an action scene were a guy, in a similar suit, is being chased by yakuza or some sort of gang and he parkours them out into the open, which happens to be a pond like in GiTS. Then he pulls out his black sword (Metal Gear Rising: Revengence style of sword) and goes invisible. Then as he dashes around the pond making little to no interference with the water he cuts and kills the gang members that have surrounded him. The gang starts to shoot their guns haphazardly in attempt to get him, yet he gets them first. The cool thing that I imagined was that every kill causes a Taratino-esque blood splatter so each time he kills someone or someone gets shot near him, the blood splatters on to him. And each splatter coats him in red so that he can be seen. And when he kills the last member by slicing him from behind, we can see him completely (the part of him that’s above the water at least) in blood. Then he resumes a calm standing position, turns off his camo, and the camera zooms into his face so we see the dripping blood. Cut to black, end film. The end.
