This month I have learned so much about so many different things. Topics like the job search after graduation, finance, angel investments, the presentation and completion of a business plan, and so much more. I expected to just learn about the finalities of a business plan and how to present it, I never thought I would get so much more with it. This class was a large combination of the previous eleven classes, but with much more real world/real life information. I feel so much more confident about finishing this degree and getting a good job.  We even got a meeting with the board of directors for our program, that was amazing. We got to meet with each member one on one, and they took the time to answer any questions that we had about anything. I feel really good about my business plan, and I am ready to get it started. Thanks to Bill and Steve I feel like I could really do this. 

I had many goals I wanted to accomplish before the end of the course. Some goals include learning the strategies to protect and exploit the rights within the digital domain, better understand the impact of entertainment law on music, and understand contract structure. There were a lot of topics that I did not have a clear understanding of like how to properly protect your work and intellectual property. This includes copyright, trademark, and patent protection. One of the most important parts of this industry includes making sure your art is protected. If not, you could lose a substantial amount of money and time if someone steals your work. Most of the time, these cases are settled in court and no one wants to deal with that. In this class we covered so many so many topics that I did not thoroughly understand, like risky terms mentioned in business contracts and how to avoid a scam or bad deal. We also learned the different ways to breach a crappy contract. There were also many terms that I had never heard of before like latching and de minimus. De minimus is is a small, but distinctive mark or sound. One example would be the NBC chimes. We learned about trade secrets and the steps you would take to cover them and keep them secrets. Trade secrets are competitive advantages that businesses use. An example of trade secret would be the gain setting a mix engineer uses on a compressor to get that signature guitar sound.
