Dragon Ball O(thers) | Son Gohan is evil, and there is justice for every character.
The art and works of Toriyama are, well art, and art is subjective. But taking another persons art, appropriating it to spread the message you think is appropriate, I don't think that's okay. That is using someone else's intellectual property and ideas in order to try and push a usually false agenda that you promote out of insecurity or virtue signaling. I logged in today and I saw a political meme using Launch as the format that legitimately threatened the lives of people who rightfully had their own beliefs. That makes me sad beyond words, not for the scumbag that did it, they'll either learn to be better or get what's coming for trying to be the thought police. But it makes me sad for a genuinely amazing and lighthearted artist who one day just wanted to make a gag manga he could be proud of.
Well, Toriyama, you did it. You did something amazing, and transcended art and culture. You made a world so well thought out and detailed that we can sit here today and write stories about what would happen if something was only slightly different.
What I do, explore the unique possibilities that exist within the world of dragon ball based on pre-existing information as well as Toriyama's own writing. That's not propaganda, I'm not trying to push an agenda. I'm trying to give my own personal writing touch to a very special series.
I shouldn't have to talk about why it isn't okay to force beliefs on people, especially when those beliefs involve killing something. You can't force a man to be a vegetarian, you can't force a man to eat meat. And it isn't always right to try and find a middle ground. What right is it of yours to push that on others?
I understand. In issues of human rights, things get heated. But your freedom ends as another persons begins. And there is no gray area in that. A person is a person. Every man woman and child with a pulse.
Be people to each other, not monsters, don't threaten people who believe differently than you, and don't try to use Dragon Ball to do it. I haven't blocked many people, but I will admit that image made me so sad I had to block that person. I digress, let's get into our wacky comedic dragon ball fan fiction about Gohan & the side cast.
As Krillin emerges from the room of Spirit & Time, so does a mist of hot steamy air, the distinct stench of sweat covers the lookout for the first time in a long time. It had been nearly a year since the Z-fighters had last trained here. And even then, they never worked up this much of a sweat. To say Krillin had gotten a workout in there would be an understatement. He must've fought Moo for weeks, maybe months.
But they were both alive, and their built up respect for one another kept the two from unfairly killing each other.
Krillin and Kami got to talking, and Kami remarked how the dots on Krillin's head were in the same place as Majin Moo's steam holes. Krillin chuckles, "Oh yeah!" and then Kami points out Krillin's lack of nose, which he also has in common with Majin Moo.
"Hey, I'm sensitive about my nose." Krillin relents.
"And I'm sensitive about awful smells Krillin, but you wouldn't know how awful it smells." Says Kami
Krillin & Kami share a laugh with the shrunken and sleeping Majin Moo not even stirring slightly. Wrapped in Krillin's dirty old beater jacket, Majin Moo seems to be so satisfied.
Krillin explained how they fought, how it was always respectful. And even if death drew close, he could sense Moo never intended harm. Only fun. That Majin only wanted to play.
"Oh shoot, look at the time. I have a conference tomorrow! I gotta go, can you take Moo back to his uh... Walnut?"
"Wall...Nut?" Kami asks, confused, taking the jacket wrapped Moo.
"Yeah, you'll know it when you see it! It's made out of something really hard, I mean, it's the hardest stuff I've ever seen!" Krillin says, and waves goodbye as he leaves the lookout, heading back home.
Kami sighs and leaves the lookout in order to insure the safety of humanity from the powerful Majin Moo. He finds Popo and asks him to check if Korin has any Sensu Beans. He heard Roshi may need them, and that he was doing something seriously intense. But he wasn't sure when the Z Fighters would be back, and if they'd need them.
Kami left the Lookout, Moo in his care. And arrived back at the massive magic walnut. He marveled at the thing and how interesting it was that it arrived on the planet without him even realizing. Kami was wondering if perhaps he was beginning to grow lax... Maybe King Piccolo had the right idea in restoring his own youth. The thought was cut short, as he was putting the jacket wrapped Moo into the walnut, he heard a crunch in the nearby bushes. Again he hadn't sensed anything, but when he looked he saw a familiar face. Dr. Gero realized he had been caught, and tried to run. But Kami appeared in front of him. Gero yelped and fell back in fright. Basically seeing the Demon King again scared the crap out of him and for valid reason. Gero was alive and in the city when Piccolo threatened to blow up the entire thing.
"P-Please! Don't kill me! I can make you stronger!" Gero pleaded. It's as if Gero had known what he was thinking.
Kami peered down at Gero, and was visibly intrigued by what he said "Kill you? Aren't you the evil doctor which made androids for the Red Ribbon? I don't supposed you are much of a threat after Red Ribbon disbanded. I won't kill you."
"Oh-..." Gero paused and thought for a moment, as if planning what he could say next.
"What were you doing near the walnut?" He asked. As if the walnut heard itself being mentioned, it resealed and flew away rapidly, leaving a trail of blue like a shooting star which illuminated the field. Kami could've sworn he saw eyes peering at him from the tall grass... Gero slowly stood and Kami looked back, realizing he was quite imposing. Gero was quite the big man, even at his age.
"Well, it's made of a very strong material and I believe I could recreate it if I knew the formula... That said, it's gone now. So I won't be doing that unless it left a piece behind."
Kami sighs, "I'm glad you are still interested in sciences. I myself find technology quite interesting. Perhaps I could pay you a visit some time and talk."
Gero found this kindness rather odd, "You aren't King Piccolo, are you? And how did you know who I am?" Gero questioned.
"No, I'm not Piccolo. And I actually know who you are because of Son Goku. I'm sure you remember the name." Kami says almost sadly
"I do... I definitely remember the name Son Goku." He spits with vitriol. "An evil force, nothing but destruction in the name of selfish gain. Lives were lost because of Goku..." He grimaces
Kami looks saddened but understands...
"And his son." He further elaborates, but the vitriol for Goku turns into fear of Gohan.
"Watching him train with that little brat, seeing their power rise. Even his wife is a monument to the human condition. It's terrifying. I seek to remedy the imbalance of power on this planet, and rid the world of such evils." Gero elaborates.
"Well, I've known Goku for some time, and I can assure you he isn't evil. However you are onto something with his child. Son Gohan wasn't given the same... 'Therapy' as Goku. If you were to give me the time of day, I could explain some of Goku's actions. Perhaps even remedy any pains caused by his misdeeds." Kami stated, sympathizing with Gero's fears...
"You opened by saying you could make me stronger, I find that an odd choice of words... What exactly did you mean?"
Gero and Kami enter into a long and intriguing dialogue about androids, machinery, and cyborgs. Kami explains his most recent developments which Kami is surprisingly able to keep up with due to his impressive worldly knowledge. Quite a few books up on the lookout, and quite a bit of time to read them.
Eventually, Kami looks up, his eyes fading into a thousand yard stare...
"Stand still." Kami says, holding his hand out at Gero, as if he's about to blast him with Ki. But no blast comes, and Gero decides to trust this 'Namekian...'
Popo appears, reporting back about the status of the Sensu Beans, there are still many. He took the liberty of collecting them. Kami nods, "Yes, I think we'll be needing them soon." He looks to Gero. But Popo can't see anything. Kami has made Gero invisible.
Gero smiles, feeling strange... Feeling a new opportunity opening up.
After Popo leaves, Kami and Gero speak for the remainder of the night, and they come to a deal.
"Krillin has had his fighting spirit reignited. And Roshi needs further training. I like the sound of these androids of yours... I liked what you said earlier, making me stronger. I don't know if it's the way you meant, but we can work something out Dr."
Kami and Gero come to an understanding. They'll talk, elaborate on the past, come to understand each other, share knowledge. And in exchange, Gero will play the villain for Krillin and Roshi, making stronger Androids with Kami's help, and use them to train the two. And maybe even train Kami himself...
The morning after, Krillin is at his political conference, winning the votes of the people and getting into the gnitty gritty that his political opponents are too afraid of. Shockingly, Krillin taking solid stances on controversial topics works out for him. And his empathetic methods allow people to relate to him, as he relates to them. As far as a politician goes, Krillin is the best one the world has seen thus far. His chances at becoming the king of the world are high. Then Bulma won't be the only one with connections in high places. That's when Krillin gets a telepathic message from Kami about androids! The red ribbon are back! But Roshi is holding them off for now, arrive quickly!
The rest is history. Krillin & Roshi growing stronger together, Roshi even finding ways to make himself appear even younger. His further training granting him further youthfulness. Quickly, the sensu beans dry up. And Kami often finds himself dipping into them himself. His old age is making his regeneration weaker... He thinks that maybe it's time to use his Dragon Balls for something selfish. It wouldn't be the first time he's been selfish about the Dragon Balls. When he initially wanted to kill Piccolo for instance.
Kami resigned to have Roshi wish for his youth back, and began trying to convince him he'd need it. But Roshi was dead set on retaining his youth in his own ways. Kami sighed, but he thought he knew of another...
Emperor Pilaf. He was getting old, and he had felt his life was wasted. The Dragon Balls were ready, and with this extra power Kami COULD make them stronger. He decided he'd invest his power to strengthen the Dragon Balls, that way they could wish people back again! It would cost him a lot, but it would be worth it. Especially if regaining his youth would give him more power like he assumed...
Cut back to the present. Krillin gets a message from Kami, but it sounds kind of different. Another android, Krillin was getting real sick of this. And Kami apparently couldn't find the source...
"Say, is something different about you Kami? You sound a little different."
"That doesn't matter Krillin, just hurry, this one is even stronger than the last." Kami says
"One? Oh boy! We haven't had a single strong opponent in a while."
Krillin meets Kami in the desert, and is astonished by his appearance!
"Oh my gosh... Kami, you look--... You look YOUNG!" Krillin is baffled.
"Yes. I made some edits on the Dragon Balls and Pilaf made a wish. It just so happened the criteria of the wish effected me as well." Kami admitted with a strange tone that surprised Krillin.
Once Kami had seemed like this wise and unbiased force. But now it was like Kami had... A personality? It was a weird thing to say, but Kami felt like just another normal guy.
Back at Kame House, Roshi was getting ready to leave. He had been heavily inspired by Yamcha's intense drive to train before he had left for Namek, and saw it fit to replicate Yamcha's ability to stay in the Buff/Full Power form. He knew it could help him to always operate in that state. To learn how to control his power, keep his pathways open for Ki. He could feel his age though, and like his weakening blood vessel, his ki pathways were weak as well... He needed something. Some technique, some bodily response to regain his youth. He knew he could do it, he just couldn't devise how... He needed to be strong again. Goku wasn't here anymore. And he still remembered what he had said about Goku at the last tournament. What he had said about everyone for that matter! Everyone could lay him out flat... He had realized how much he hated that feeling. Helplessness wasn't something Roshi was used to. And he didn't want to start getting used to it.
Roshi began to plot... Plot something, some way... The sensu beans. They healed anything, even missing limbs, so long as they hadn't scarred over. They were out of the question. He would have to reverse his DNA, trick it into it's old paths. He didn't know if that was even possible... He'd talk to his sister Baba, ask if she knew anything. Then he'd talk to kami-
That's when Kami's message got to him
"AH! Holy crap Kami, were you reading my thoughts?"
"Uh, no Roshi. Come to the desert, there's an android we must defeat."
"Kami Damnit, the androids are screwin' like rabbits. I'll be right there!"
"Don't take my name in vein, Roshi."
He sighed, then he looked outside at his garden. He looked at the plants... He saw his peonies that had lasted nearly as long as he had, and their appearance had only gotten better.
He flew off towards the desert.
You can imagine seeing Kami's appearance only made him more insecure about his age. But Roshi wasn't like Kami, he was steadfast in his ways. He wouldn't resort to the Dragon Balls. That said... He still admired. Kami was seriously intense. It was impressive.
"Holy crap Roshi you are huge!" Krillin expressed. "Speak for yourself, I could swear you grew Krillin." Roshi teased. "What were you last time? 3'11? You have to be at least 4 feet tall now!"
"Man, everyone is changing except me! This sucks... Alright. Wheres this android Kami?" Krillin asked
Kami gestures out into the desert, where a massive foe resembling a full power Yamcha lumbers...
Krillin gulps. "Alright Roshi, I take it back. You aren't huge, maybe above average. THAT is huge."
"Ehh it's nothin'. Let's just blast this guy before he even sees us. I think I'm onto something back at home." Roshi begins charging up a Kamehameha, and Krillin does the same. Letting it loose, only for the android to start sprinting at them, shrugging off the blast.
The android meets with the source of the Kamekameha's, extending it's palms into the source of the beam, and just fast enough to see but too quick to react, the android grasps their hands and lets out a massive burst of energy into the pair, then throws them aside.
At first, they don't feel it... Confused at what happened. Then, they realize, using their source of output, the android INPUTTED energy into them. And as the violent energy from the android courses through their system, Roshi and Krillin suddenly grow even larger, going into a form even further beyond Roshi's full power. But something is dangerously wrong, it all feels horribly off and extremely painful. The pair begin to cry out and scream, their their skin tears open and blood gushes out of them. And the Android is slowly approaching Kami. Kami has immediately realized what's going on, and knows now he cannot directly use Ki attack. Lest the android manipulate the output. He looks to Krillin and Roshi, who are on the ground, deflated and withered. Kami uses his impressive speed to leave an after image, and then darts around to Roshi and Krillin, feeding them senzu's. The android is able to track Kami, and darts over at rapid speed, seeming to fade out of sight before reappearing and striking Kami with immense force. Instantly cratering him through the Earth. Roshi and Krillin snap out of their funk, and realize something... That strange backfire of energy, it's made them feel more fluid and flexible. The android tries again to attack them at the same time, but the duo move like water, slipping between the androids attacks and then powering up into their full power form only for a brief instant to deliver extremely strong blows, before powering down and continuing to dodge. The android is successfully overwhelmed for a few moments. The duo get in some extremely strong attacks. Kami telepathically communicates with them, eating the final senzu, "I will charge my strongest attack, you must keep his focus!"
Kami continued to play dead, secretly charging his Ki into a single pinpoint on his body. Krillin and Roshi wailed on the Android, dodging and weaving through fists and kicks, until suddenly, a kick landed. It sent Krillin flying, making Roshi grin.
"Be like the turtle, flowing through the ocean on the current alone." Only to then get hit himself, but sustain no damage. Krillin and Roshi rebounded, and started charging Kamehameha's, the android then see's Kami whose stood up, and has a powerful beam charging on the tips of his fingers. The android is struck by decision paralysis, unsure of who to attack. Krillin, Roshi, and Kami all power up into their maximum strength. The android picks Kami and dashes, and that's when they all fire
Their beams meet in the middle, and it obliterates the android, but leaves Kami drained.
"What was that attack anyways? We've never seen it before!" Krillin questions.
"It's from Piccolo... I'm not sure if he ever used it in a real fight, but I studied it, then mastered it. His version uses two fingers, my version uses four."
"Huh..." Roshi hums, "Wouldn't that make it weaker due to being further spread out?"
Kami nods, "In a way. The smaller the pinpoint, the more condensed the blast, the longer it takes to gather the Ki into that area. It may be slightly weaker, but it charges much faster."
Krillin nods "Oh! I get it! So, like my Kienzan compared to Yamcha's Chi Bullet! Basically the same technique, but mine is condensed enough to cut through stuff, his is meant to charge faster and last longer! Yours is like the original, but less of a drill, more of a blade!"
Kami nods, "Precisely, Krillin! I knew you were good students."
Roshi chuckles, "Makes me feel youthful again, to be called a student!" Krillin sighs and puts his hands on his hips, "I'm inclined to agree. May not be as old as you, Roshi, but it reminds me of when we were kids..."
The two reminisced about days long past. Then, an energy appeared. It appeared up on the lookout, and it was difficult to sense, as if it was weak. But they could tell it was originally very large. Through their unique style of training, they had grown to sense more than just raw power. Kami had taught them power wasn't everything. After all, they beat that Android, and it was easily stronger than the three of them combined.
That's when they felt an unknown energy flying towards them at high speed, with Kami drained, this felt extremely dangerous... Then, they realized. This energy, it feels tranquil. Almost strangely so. Krillin was the first to spring into action.
"It's Tien! They're back-... No, somethings wrong! We need to go now!"
Roshi Krillin and Kami met up with Tien in the sky above the desert. Seeing how much Tien had grown was impressive, but compared to the training Roshi and Krillin had experienced, it was almost hard to read the duo. Roshi and Krillin had always been tight. Like brother's ever since their master-student relationship ended. But seeing them now, it was really like seeing twins. Yeah one had a beard, but they were both bald, and both short, and both extremely muscularly toned with very similar Ki. Except, Krillin had some sort of odd fluctuating energy inside him... Tien couldn't quite pin it down. But that didn't matter, he needed to get Kami back to the lookout.
Tien explained everything on the way, in that same stoic tranquility that accompanied him on the fly over. Krillin and Roshi didn't share those emotions. Almost breaking down mid-flight at the fact everyone was dead... With no other Dragon Balls, they had no idea how they've revive them. And that's when Kami spoke up.
"Well, you know I've been training for a reason. This power can be reinvested back into the Dragon Balls."
Krillin wipes a tear, "W-what..? You could just do that?"
Kami nods, "Honestly, yes. It's always been that easy. I simply hadn't realized how to further gain power. Now that I have a method, a motivation, and the follow through, I may just be able to amplify the Dragon Balls, and we may be able to get Namek back, along with everyone who died with it."
Tien nods, "I hope so. Cause the other option is just giving up, and that would mean our demise for sure."
By this point Tien hadn't explained Frieza came with them. And so when they arrived at the lookout, they were left confused at Piccolo's captive.
"Whose that?" Roshi questioned.
Chapter 7, From the Stars
Krillin immediately assumed a fighting stance, but Kami gently took Krillin's wrist and lowered his hands. Seeing that Frieza wasn't in any state to even wake up. Much less fight. The energy within Frieza was dwindling fast, Frieza was going to die.
Kami bore his teeth in anger, hatred, and confliction... Then approached Piccolo. To Piccolo and all the Namekian's within his body, Kami looked like an incredibly powerful force. Piccolo had garnered a lot of strength in his journey to Namek. But Kami had earned every ounce of power he'd carefully cultivated, and he knew how to properly use every ounce of it. Even without his full Ki, Kami truly seemed stronger than Piccolo.
That's when Kami lowered his hands to Frieza. Compared to Kami, Frieza looked like a child. And honestly, Frieza was more like a child than anyone had realized. Kami lifted Frieza, and healed his wounds. When he put Frieza down, Frieza's eyes shot open and Frieza regained his balance. As if he had been shocked awake by smelling salts.
"Where in the galaxy am I?" Frieza asked, less like a genuine question and more like an expletive.
"Earth. And you don't have the power to destroy this planet, nor the power to beat me. Much less my stronger companions." He said as he gestured to Krillin and Roshi.
"You have one option. Play nice until you can leave our planet. Because the other option is to be thrown into a prison until you die of exposure." Kami said with dead seriousness, enough that it scared Piccolo. He knew what this meant. Not the mafuba, no, he meant the Room of Spirit and Time, the room that almost drove Goku crazy.
Frieza was clearly having a hard time understanding what was happening...
"Play... Nice? I'm sorry, Earth? Forgive me but I'm thoroughly confused. I mean no ill will."
Frieza was playing dumb. At least, it seemed that way. He still had his elegant speech, but Krillin and Roshi were confused. They didn't sense evil in this being, nor ill intent.
"Quit pretending Frieza, you spoke of Earth back on Namek. You heard everything on the scouter conversations between Vegeta and Radditz."
"Free-zaa?" Frieza questioned, genuinely. "I'm sorry. I really am confused... I don't mean to pretend anything."
Roshi's eyes lit up. He had realized what happened.
"The traumatic event, the near death, the sudden loss of Ki, and being brought back from the brink. It all seems to have shocked Frieza into a factory reset. I saw this happen with a young Goku."
Tien looked to Roshi, "Oh yeah, you said he hit his head when he was a kid, that's why he wasn't evil."
"To think that this was replicated with a tyrant like Frieza... I guess you just need a large enough scale and you can literally beat the evil out of somebody." Tien continued.
"Perhaps, but that won't save his soul." Kami stated. "Like Piccolo, like Tao, like Tien. Actions speak louder than words, and actions come from the heart, and the heart is controlled by the soul. If Frieza's soul is evil, he will return to his evil ways. Therefore, we must insure he doesn't do that..."
Frieza, all this time, looks unfathomably confused.
"Um... So, what does all this mean for me?"
The entire group looks at Frieza, before Kami speaks up.
"I suppose it means you are now my student as well. Unfortunately, it's not something I can let you deny."
Frieza nodded slowly. "Student... Yes I've had tutors & teachers before."
"Not like that." Kami began, "Well, maybe a little. What I mean is that you will learn to operate yourself, control your power, and function all over again. And we will not stop until we are sure you haven't an ounce of evil left inside you."
Frieza looked on the verge of an aneurism.
"Please, can somebody just tell me why I'm here?" Frieza asked in earnest.
Piccolo was the one to speak up this time.
"You are here because it's your destiny, this is your chance for a new start."
Frieza hummed and nodded... "Yes, it certainly does feel fresh." He took a moment to listen, to take things in, and he heard the chirping birds, the rushing water, the wind in the trees.
"I am happy to be your student. But I feel I deserve an explanation none-the-less." Frieza pushed.
"Well, I'm sorry but we can't risk that. This is a delicate situation, and we can't even risk calling you by your old name any longer." Kami elaborated.
"From now on, you will be Hoshi. Is that okay with you?" Kami asked Frieza.
Frieza let out a long and genuine groan...
"Yes, fine, whatever. This is all so tiring. Can I just sleep?" He requested. And Kami obliged.
"Popo will assist you." Kami directed, and Popo assisted Frieza into the lookout, past the library, past the kitchen, past the room of spirit and time, which deeply intrigued Frieza, and into an old lodging that reeked of Goku in every way. It seems Popo and Kami hadn't changed Goku's old room since he had trained here in preparation to defeat Piccolo Jr.
The group would discuss the steps that come next, and Frieza, or Hoshi, would gradually get used to these people, this setting, and the training.
It seems that what happened locked away a significant amount of power. Hoshi couldn't use all his Ki if he wanted, and after all, this made a lot of sense. Frieza had learned how to use his power based entirely on instinct. Not training. And so, train he did. And Hoshi was taught quite a bit of what Kami taught Roshi and Krillin.
Meanwhile, back at Kame House, Roshi neared his breakthrough, and Gero watched carefully. Gero resisted direct interference, but thought of a clever way to try and get a better look at Roshi's plans, not an android, not some spy robot, but a simple disguise. Gero put on a lifelike mask, a fake accent, and a brand new set of clothes that more closely resembled the fashion of Krillin. And with that, he ventured to the island under the alias Rego. Rego simply wanted to train under the turtle hermit, and that he did. While Roshi trained with Kami, Rego trained with Roshi, and he began to get glimpses and peeps of what Roshi was doing...
It was a plan to restore his youth, without the Dragon Balls. And it was working. Gero could tell, as wrinkles began to vanish and finally color began to come back to Roshi's beard. It was fully realized once Roshi began to regrow the hair atop his head.
In the meantime, Krillin worked hard in political office as well as a hero to the people. Of course, nobody knew it was him. But they knew a superhero was protecting the Earth. It got the attention of tournament winner and TV personality, Mark Satan. Who was busy himself with family life and supporting his newborn daughter.
Mark may not have had super powers, but he was strong, and seeing this valiant hero, it inspired him to work like he did before. Mark bought a cheap costume, and modified the mask, setting out into the city to help this brand new hero fight crime.
Krillin was nearing his election date, and his favor looked good. It genuinely seemed like Krillin may be the new King of Earth.
Launch supported Krillin all the way, whether it be with blonde hair or blue. And as time went on, Launch probed her way into learning more about Tien.
Tien stayed on the lookout and trained with Roshi, Hoshi, and Krillin. Kami would do his best to direct them, but all the while he was working on the Dragon Balls, and so usually Popo would be the one training the group. And, truth be told, it was going quite well. Hoshi was easy to get along with, and far from the annoying brat he once was. The group learned that Hoshi still very much was aware of his species and their unique traits. Explaining he was some kind of mutant, that he had a unique circumstance, and that despite his lack of memory, he was only really a teenager in his species. Yes, his species reached maturity almost instantly, but they lived indefinitely. And this meant that their societal hierarchy dictated age as a symbol of wisdom, not maturity. For Hoshi's level of wisdom, he was only really a teen, and honestly with the bump on the head, he was probably more comparable to a child again.
"To tell you the truth, I've never felt like anything more than a child." Hoshi admitted. "And with this new development in my life, I'm feeling more infantilized than ever..." He sighed. "I wonder if I'll ever grow up. And with the seeming infamy I used to possess, I fear I never will... My maturity must've been quite lackluster to be such an evil person."
Piccolo took particular offense at that, "Oh come on, being evil doesn't mean being a child." He said aggressively.
Piccolo occasionally visited the lookout, but he trained in solitude. Or, rather, he trained with the Namekian he had fused with.
Frieza looked up at Piccolo, having to crane his neck to meet his gaze. "Well, to me and my species. There isn't any other way to describe it. Most of my species simply wish to live and let live, and not only that, but we view power as something which is meaningless to continue gaining. I can't quite recall my father, but I remember something he told me... He expressed how he was one of the only members of our species to actually cultivate strength and use it against others. Power meant everything to my father and to his father before him. Power was the way we made our mark on this universe. Perhaps it was the reason I was the way I was... Regardless, at this point, I see no reason to conquer, to rule in fear, to be a 'tyrant' as you've all called me. I wish to live like my ancestors, to live and let live... If that means learning to use the power I already have, then so be it. But I have no reason to dispense it. Not that I can think of yet, anyways..."
The group were marveling at Hoshi's speech. But of everyone, Tien was the most touched. Tien and Hoshi began to have a few private conversations. And that's how Tien learned... He was an alien.
"Oh yes, the three-eyed ones. I've no recollection of their origin species. Only that they used their unique physiology and adaptability to spread across the galaxy. You most likely have millions of cousins amongst other species. Perhaps I'll help you find them some day!" Hoshi said with the wonder of a child's future dreams and aspirations. Tien helped guide Hoshi down the right path, and in exchange, Hoshi did the same for Tien... Chaotzu and Tien could talk every day, but Hoshi was beginning to fill that gap that was made when Chaotzu decided to go his own way. Hoshi and Tien began to feel like brothers.
Launch was dramatically interested in this, and of course she wanted to talk to Tien again, she'd ask again and again, "Can I please come up to he lookout with ya'?" And Krillin would tell her the same thing.
"Well, I'll have to ask Kami. I'll let you know next time I see you."
And Kami would always say no...
Eventually, this got to be too much for Krillin. He exploded on Tien.
"Listen here, I can't believe you!" He said as soon as he arrived, yelling at Tien right off the bat.
"You have always been so shut off an isolated! And here you are, cozying up with Frieza--... I mean, Hoshi. Sorry Hoshi." Hoshi shrugged. "Do you have any idea the turmoil you put people through?! I mean, seriously! You have people back on the surface that are thinking about you!"
Tien glares at Krillin, "Krillin, don't talk to me like that. Besides, what of your old monastary? What about when you left them high and dry? I'm sure they have reservations about you abandoning them."
"Oh don't you go there three eyes." Krillin mocked
"What'd you say no-nose?" Tien retorted.
And for the first time in a long time, the two looked genuinely angry.
"Stop it you two!" Hoshi yelled like an innocent child.
"I don't know your past, I don't even know mine... But there's no reason to be fighting at a time like this. Kami needs to focus, and so do we. From what I've been able to gather, there's a bigger threat than me out there."
Tien and Krillin exchanged looks, not quite apologizing, but sharing a mutual understanding.
"Fine, I'll go talk to Launch. Tell her to meet me in the desert-"
Krillin cut him off, "Oh no way man, you need to make this special. Even if you are just going to let her down, you need to let her down easy. I'll arrange a reservation for you at my favorite restaurant, and I know you're strapped, so I'll pay for it too."
Tien looked a little baffled, "Wow, I forgot you were once a monk Krillin. I suppose it's easy for you to let go of cash."
Krillin shrugged, "Never needed it till now. And even then, it's just to pay for advertisements for my campaign and improvements to South City."
Tien chuckled, "You're still on that whole 'King of the World' thing?"
Krillin nodded, "I can really change the world for the better Tien, of course I am."
Tien nods approvingly, "Well, to each there own. And, hey. I really am sorry I've been ghosting Launch. I know you two are close."
Krillin is genuinely touched by this display from Tien
"Well-... I mean it's fine man. I'm sorry I blew up at you. I know it's hard for you to-... Well. You know."
Tien interlocks his hands behind his head in a casual manner, boldly admitting "I just don't get along with people Krillin, don't look too much into it."
"Yeah, totally." Krillin nods.
Later that week, the date was set up, and Launch & Tien would end up meeting in one the best restaurants in South City. Tien scanned the crowd, and spotted launch, and a few tables away from Launch, a hairy man eating alone... It was Krillin in a wig. Krillin looked up and winked at Tien. His full black hair and beard really making him see how similar he and Roshi looked besides the whole nose thing.
Tien sat down with Launch, and her entire demeanor changed, she lit up like the sunrise. Standing up straighter and smiling gleefully.
"Tien shenhan! It's been so long, you remember me, right?" She asked genuinely.
Tien nods, "Of course I remember you. I'm not one to forget things."
The two reminisced about the past. Discussing the train robbery, and all the crazy antics. Tien divulged a bit into his bloody past, and Launch did the same. And finally, Tien looked up at her.
"Listen... I know how I've been, and I know that it's wrong. It's just that this is a whole new world for me, and I don't know if I'm ready to balance training with a normal life... I know what I said, that night we...-" Tien trailed off, and Launch vulgarly took over
"Had sex?" She finishes his sentence and both Tien and Krillin spit their drinks.
"Don't worry Tien. I'm not like other girls, I mean, you can tell that much." She chuckles. "I can wait, and as long as we're both alive, you can cash in that promise as soon as you are ready. We really had no way to know there'd be more than just Piccolo, or that you'd need to go into space. It's okay that you need a little more time..." She says, and despite being blonde, her sincerity and gentle nature shines through.
"You've come so far since we've met." Tien admits, with love in his eyes, and Launch smiles and props her chin up on her hands.
"So have you, Tien Shenhan." She sad softly and sweetly.
Krillin smiled like a doofus in the corner, and with Tien's social anxiety already at it's peak in this quiet fancy restaurant, he couldn't bare to stay a moment longer.
Launch began to go in for a kiss, which fully overwhelmed Tien, he scarfed down his food incredibly fast.
"The food was good thank Krillin for the meal bye!" He said rapidly, standing and leaving without getting his hat and coat. His walk alone was too fast for Launch to catch up, but she threw down Krillin's card onto the table and ran after Tien as fast as she could.
Krillin sighed sadly, ordering a drink for himself... Saddened that Tien was still this far into his own shell.
Launch broke a heel, swearing under her breath as Tien briskly walked down the street, his fancy suit jacket perfectly fitting his lumps and curves, suddenly blowing in the wind as he unbuttoned and threw it off. It wasn't his style, and he felt like such a fraud wearing it...
Launch kicked her heels off and ran after him barefoot in a skirt. She too felt a little... Fake.
"Wait! Tien please!" She called out, Tien already around the corner. Quickly walking towards an alley, but Launch finally intercepted him right in the middle of the street. Leaping in front of him and painfully skidding to a halt. This surprised Tien tremendously
"Please, please don't just disappear again, please don't go again Tien, I don't know what I'll do every night without you." She pleaded, looking up at him like a puppy. It was the softest and yet bravest he had ever seen Launch. It humbled him, realizing how much she had to put herself out there, how much she had to fight instincts. How much she had bettered herself, while he had stayed basically the same...
It was crushing. Tien clenched his fists, and for the first time in years, he shed a tear, his lip quivering, and posture bolstering.
"Launch, I--" He was cut off by her leaping into his arms, wrapping around his neck and kissing him deeply.
After a while she pulled away and buried her face into his shoulder, "You promised we'd live a life together Tien, you promised you'd settle down, but I don't need you to settle with me Tien, I'll go with you! I'll charge into battle alongside you, I'll do anything to be your girl, Tien. Please just let me love you...!" She said, she pulled out of his shoulder and looked up at him, her eyes sparkly with tears, and Tien's own face a little wet.
Tien's awkwardness melted away seeing this beautiful woman, looking at Launch, holding her in his arms, feeling her gentle frame, despite all her strength and muscles, knowing she was so fragile compared to him, knowing there was nothing between her and death besides his protection as a speeding car rounded the corner and rammed into Tien, it flipped over him, leaving him unharmed, and spun through the air, before landing safely thanks to Krillin, who had followed after hearing he commotion.
Krillin watched as Tien spoke to Launch, completely unperturbed by the car smashing into him.
"Okay...!" He smiled and sniffled, "We can be together Launch, and I don't care how it impacts my training, and I don't care about the Piccolo's and the Frieza's anymore. Damnit, all I've ever cared about are my friends. And you, you are the only woman whose ever touched me so deeply." He admitted through soft tears. And that night, Tien made Launch the happiest girl in south city, and probably the world.
From then on, Tien brought Launch to training no matter what Kami said. He took care of her, was responsible for her, and didn't let her get in the way or break any rules. And in exchange, Launch got to be with the man she loved while he did what he loved. Train.
Hoshi and Launch surprisingly got acquainted and became friendly with one another. Of all the people.
After not long, Kami realized Launch wasn't the firecracker she once was. And honestly, with her here, Tien worked more than twice as hard every single day. Working up more than a sweat, more than an ache, more than Ki. Tien seemed to be gaining something that transcended power itself. And that tranquil stoic aura shifted into something more...
I have nothing really to add here. I think it's clear where I'm going. And I think I like these directions. I loved the arc with Goku and Chichi gathering up the stuff they needed to get married. Even if it wasn't canon! And I hate the direction Goku and Chichi's relationship went. Hell, that's part of why I made Chichi as strong as she was in the first place and changed the whole "Chichi gets defeated in one punch" thing. There is power in love, caring for one another, and healing your flaws. I want to see more of our characters heal. Especially Yamcha and Tien.
i'll be back with more soon. I'm writing this a lot like Toriyama, lol, not really planning anything. Just writing as I go with vague ideas in mind. Next chapter will be in the afterlife with Chichi and Goku.
EDIT: Sorry for the typo's. It used to do this thing where it would auto correct the words incorrectly. So theres a lot of improper grammar and completely wrong words. It's still understandable, but I'd like to go back and completely fix it. I just don't have the time, as I'm writing a new chapter now that my GF found this and actually loved reading it. lol
