Kendoni is having a national final for @eslariasongcontest #2. Our president’s choice comes from the Apricot Duel’s pool. The song is: Depi Nor Irakanutyun by Iveta Mukuchyan.

Now for the voting process: you must give between 0 and 9 points to each song. However, your votes within the duels are limited to 9. You must give 9 points in each duel you vote in. To make it very clear, you have 9 points in each duel to distribute, and you must use all 9. You also must rate the president’s choice song, independent of the duels.

Do you like it? If you are Pauline Hanson, you might not. Who is Pauline Hanson? Here, have a short blurb:

This number was based upon infamous far right-wing politician Pauline Hanson (known henceforth as Hanson), founder of Pauline Hanson’s One Nation Party. A former fish-and-chips store owner, Hanson crashed onto the political scene originally elected under the Liberal Party of Australia. Her maiden speech was no more than a racist diatribe about how Australia was being swamped by Asians, not to mention her treatment of Indigenous Australians (which is still evident in interviews she undergoes to this day).

And so, Pauline Hanson… is not the next candidate. It’s actually Pauline Pantsdown. Have another blurb:

Pauline Pantsdown (known as henceforth Pantsdown/Simon depending on whether about the drag character or the performer), the artist behind this song, created a song called “Backdoor Man” in 1997, and at a point in time Hanson had successfully sued Pantsdown. This led to two results: Pantsdown created the song “I Don’t Like It” (the Politvision entry) and Simon deciding to run for NSW government, with one twist. He legally, for the campaign time period, changed his name to Pauline Pantsdown. While the pair of us would wish this was the end of this political context, the song could be contextualised by the recent reelection of Hanson into the Australian Senate in 2016. Instead of Asians, this time Hanson was trying to tear down almost any minority which was politically relevant.
