rita was herded out of the bar with the crowd and her complaints got lost in the choir of other groans. still, she reached into her bag and pulled out her thin cigarettes, lighting it easily with a snap of her fingers. when she looked up again, she thought she was seeing a boggart of her worst nightmare right now. "oh, bite me, bagman," she scoffed, not intimidated by any of his endeavors. rita was used to his smug behavior by now and she wouldn't allow herself to fly into his light again. "there's probably some underground bar being drafted as we speak. so maybe you can go annoy someone else with your...enlightening questions." her nose wrinkled for a moment thinking no one else knew about that. "it's clear that i have nothing to hide unlike everyone else so it seems."
Ludo laughed, entirely too entertained by her irritation to take the hint. “Now where’s the fun in annoying someone else?” He asked with a brow raised, falling into step beside her anyway, hands tucked into his pockets as they wandered with the dispersing crowd. “Nothing to hide?” he echoed, brows furrowing in an instant. “That’s not usually the reputation reporters work so hard to earn.”
His grin returned, easy as ever. “Still… if you really do know about this imaginary underground bar, I promise not to ask any more enlightening questions until I’ve had another drink.”
The letter had been delivered, the contents read and that ever so familiar mask put on. If there was something no one could claim it was that Estelle lacked the ability to appear calm. A crisis manager on the outside, while chaos churned on the inside like molten lava rushing down a mountain. The words had stung, had caused her that tine slip in which she'd glanced around the room before stashing it away.
And with it every thought. "Whatever you think is fun." The witch glanced up at him, the soft smile edged onto her face to replace to worry underneath. "What would you pick to celebrate such a night?" - @lvdobagmans
The wizard’s eyes remained on her, taking in the soft way in which her lips turned upwards and her gaze met his. They hadn’t talked about the unfortunate events of the evening, and he could tell that Estelle had no intention discussing it, almost as little as he did. “Mm, I have other ideas on how we can celebrate,” Ludo said with a hum as he took a step closer from behind her, letting his hand find her waist as he reached to press a light peck on her shoulder. “But I think you’d enjoy a glass of a honeyed dragon barrel brandy I have, too.”
where: knockturn alley who: @lordlestrange
Curfew had never struck Ludo as much of a deterrent. If anything, it made the streets quieter, the drinks easier to come by, and whatever trouble remained all the more interesting. Knockturn Alley was nearly deserted by the time he caught sight of a familiar figure emerging from the shadows and the wizard slowed just enough to recognize Rodolphus Lestrange before an easy grin found its way onto his face.
“Well,” he called lightly, hands tucked into his pockets as though neither of them had any business being there, “either we’re both spectacularly bad at following Ministry orders, or you’ve found yourself a much more exciting evening than I have.” His head tilted slightly. “Please tell me it’s the second one.”

It rained and rained and rained.
It never seemed to stop raining in London. Antonin ducked beneath the awning of a nearby shop to straighten his robes and pull up his hood with an irritated flick of the wrist. With the customary curse under his breath, he stepped out from the shop window and powered forward, splashing past several other inviting doorways before he finally made his way over to the ‘The Ink Pot’. He was nearly in the entrance when he jostled against another man who seemed to have the exact same idea he did.
“Apologies.” Antonin stepped back, taking the door handle and holding it open, only to be shocked by the sight before him. The young man with shining blond hair looked so remarkably familiar and it took a moment before Antonin’s mind made the connection. The Quidditch player from the Daily Prophet. He let out a soft, “Oh” at the realization before casting his eyes away for the sake of propriety.
The wizard had always walked around as though he knew people’s gazes would follow, and he was often proved right. Still, he was known for being a little too careless whenever he wasn’t on the pitch, like he didn’t need to stay focused elsewhere. That was why he bumped into the other wizard on his way in, fixing his robes before looking up and spotting the look of acknowledgement on the other man’s face. “Ludo Bagman,” he said, casually introducing himself with a wink of his eye. “See anything you like?” He wondered with a brow raised.

where: alecto's place who: @misscarrow
He hadn’t seen her since the gala at Burke Manor, where she’d looked stunning but had slipped away before he had a chance to reach for her. He shouldn’t have, of course, not when he’d gone with a date and her brother had been within the crowd as well. Still, Alecto Carrow had a way of calling to him that he could not ignore, even if he sometimes knew he should. The wizard apparated at her doorstep, wanting, perhaps even needing, to see her. He knocked firmly three times before the door swung open and he saw her, knowing damn well he should ask for permission but staying true to himself, he simply entered and walked past her. Ludo only turned to face her once he was inside, the corners of his lips turning the slightest bit upwards. “It’s almost curfew,” he pointed out, taking off his jacket. “Thought we could catch up, drink up, stay up all night.”
Where: Second-hand bookshop
Who: open
Fenrir was contentedly perusing the shelves on a sunny morning, enjoying the smell of old books and dust. He was there to expand their herbology, ritual, and medicine collection for Healer Selwyn. Morgana knows how soon they might need him with the Minister missing and no clue if the Dark Lord had orchestrated it or not.
He had quickly pulled what he could from the small section and was in the fiction section of the store. Fenrir debated the merits of spending the budget on this frivolous thing.
After having paid for the instructional books only, Fenrir left the dusty store for the sunny street, pausing to allow his eyes to adjust when a voice hailed him.
Ludo watched in amusement as the wizard left the bookshop, it was the same one he’d run into the other day, awfully concerned about the potion vials he was carrying. He couldn’t help himself when he called out to him, taking any opportunity he got to have a little fun. “Big guy, hey!” The wizard chimed, waving his hand to get his attention. “Doing some shopping again?”
location: diagon alley; apothecary status: open to all!
anyone walking around diagon alley could feel the tension and as sunset neared, it only intensified that unsettling feeling. beck didn't have too many days away from the hospital and he maximized his personal time whenever he could which also meant updating his personal stock. after the scare with evelyn, he couldn't afford to be out of anything again. he didn't know when someone else would end up at his door, death eater related or not. he browsed the aisles of the apothecary shop and as he reached for one of the vials, a commotion from behind him stopped his attention. beck nearly jumped into action when he saw someone threaten the shopkeeper and steal some herbs before apparating away. he only rushed forward when he saw that the commotion pushed someone to the ground and some vials were uncorked. "don't move," beck said as he knelt down beside them. "it's not that bad, i promise." beck motioned to someone standing nearby. "can you please get me some calming cream?"
The Ministry hadn’t accomplished a damn good thing since enforcing the curfew. The Minister was still missing and people were over the edge, violence escalating and no one around seemed to find a way to stop it. Ludo hadn’t expected to be at the tough end of an altercation, keeping himself from engaging in anything that implied taking a stance in a war he was absolutely not fighting in. Still, he had been very unlucky to be inside the shop when the assault happened, feeling the burn of liquid being poured on the side of his leg after the vials broke. The wizard hissed, moving rapidly away from the person touching him. “No, shit,” he cursed, trying to take a look at the exposed skin through his now ruined trousers. “It can’t leave a fucking mark, I can’t have scarring.” He said, turning to the wizard attempting to help. “Are you a healer? A proper one?”

rita had been in this industry for too long to recognize when people were tense and she had never seen it like this. of course, she predicted that it would happen and it really kicked her in the gut to report on hard news when she'd rather write about what she did best. rita was in the middle of an interview at the cafe when the bartender called last call. her head snapped in every direction, not used to the business closing when the sun was still bright outside. "oh, you're not serious," she complained to no one in particular with the rest of the crowd who made to stand. "i can't believe this. they think this is going to solve anything and-yeah, i'm not doing this." she was agnostic about most things unless it came to an inconvenience to her and her career. "where do we even go now for a drink? someone's place? that's a worse health hazard."
Ludo wasn’t pleased with the curfew. He’d never cared much for the twists of politics, and he’d much rather spend his evenings in a crowded pub than locked indoors because the Ministry thought it looked productive. Starting on the drinks earlier had turned out to be the better option, though still not nearly good enough. Rita’s complaint echoed his own thoughts, drawing a quiet chuckle from him as he turned in her direction. “I’d have thought you already knew somewhere willing to ignore a Ministry curfew,” he said lightly, sounding almost hopeful that she actually did. His grin lingered for a moment before turning just a touch more knowing. “Pity you can’t skip everything as neatly as you skipped that letter, love.”
who: @hcalingherbs where: ludo's flat
He’d crumpled up his letter and left it with a waiter before finding Estelle, yet the words were burned in his memory. The wizard decided not to dwell on it, he knew his worth and he wasn’t about to waste a perfectly good night just because someone had decided to write him a letter out of pure jealousy. He’d offered his date to leave the gala, go to his place and have a couple of drinks there, pleased that she’d agreed.
Once he’d apparated them at his flat, Ludo got rid of his suit jacket and took the cuffs off his sleeves and rolled them upwards. “You really do look beautiful tonight,” he offered in compliment as his gaze settled upon the pretty witch standing in his living room. “What would you like to drink, darling?”

Starter for: @lvdobagmans Post letters
After Narcissa had walked in and took in the same expression many people had on their faces, she knew that she hadn't been the only one to receive such a strange letter. Her gaze stopped when she saw Ludo standing among the crowd as well. Aaah, at least the company was pleasant still.
The woman made her way over to the man. From his expression she wasn't certain if he had received a letter as well, but Narcissa wasn't the one to stop herself from asking.
"Ludo, good to see you finally. Although when I said earlier to Alecto that this party needed some spicing up, this was not what I expected to happen. Did you receive a letter as well?"
Ludo’s expression brightened the moment he spotted Narcissa approaching, the sort of practiced smile that came as naturally to him as breathing. “Darling,” he greeted her warmly, lifting his glass in acknowledgment. “And here I was beginning to think this evening had completely lost its appeal.”
At her question, his smile lingered for a second too long before he let out a short laugh. “I did, unfortunately. Whoever is behind this little game seems convinced they know us all terribly well.” He swirled the contents of his glass, his gaze briefly flicking toward the guests scattered around the room. “Though judging by the atmosphere, I’d say some people received much nastier surprises than I did.”
His eyes returned to her, curiosity sharpening beneath the easy charm. “You too, then?” He wondered as the corner of his mouth quirked upward. “Tell me, should I be concerned that half the room appears ready to commit murder, or should I simply be offended that someone thought anonymous correspondence was an acceptable substitute for proper entertainment?”
location: burke manor status: open to all ! | post letters
lucius couldn't help himself but feel amused as people ran out of the rooms or looked up at people with contempt. whoever sent the letters out at least knew how to fun and brighten up a dull party. lucius walked over to the closest person who just opened their own letter. "if it makes you feel better, everyone else is upset," lucius said in an attempt to console someone. "but not me because it wasn't true at all. i think people are only hurt when there's some truth in it."
Ludo let out a short laugh as he folded the letter and slipped it back into his pocket, though the gesture was perhaps a touch less careless than he intended. “Is that your expert analysis, then?” he asked lightly, lifting his glass. “Anyone upset must secretly agree with whatever was written?”
His smile remained in place, easy and familiar, but there was something measuring in his gaze now. “I don’t know, Lucius. Sometimes people are annoyed because someone decided to stick their nose where it doesn’t belong. Not every reaction is a confession.” He took a sip of his drink before glancing around at the scattered pockets of unease spreading through the gala. “Tell me, what did yours say? Since you’re apparently the only person here with nothing to hide.”
Someone at Burke Manor wanted to make sure this reached you.
Finding the envelope in the pocket of his suit had immediately improved Ludo's mood. For one glorious second, he thought luck had finally remembered him. A fan letter, perhaps, or some sort of game hidden among the evening's entertainment, something designed to catch his attention because, really, why wouldn't it? The thrill of possibility was enough to make him grin as he unfolded the note, already imagining what waited inside.
The grin didn't survive the first line.
A bitter taste settled in his mouth so quickly it almost felt physical. It was ridiculous, really, to let a few anonymous words get under his skin, and yet they lingered there all the same, burning at the tip of his tongue while his gaze drifted across the room. Suddenly every conversation seemed to be happening somewhere else, every laugh belonged to somebody else, every set of eyes appeared fixed on anyone but him.
The wizard forced himself to fold the note and tuck it away, refusing to give whoever had written it the satisfaction of a visible reaction, but the damage had already been done. He wanted to find them, wanted to know who thought they had the right to say such a thing, and he especially wanted to know who they thought had replaced him. Because they were wrong, they had to be wrong. The crowd might be distracted tonight, but favourites came and went, and Ludo Bagman had never been meant to fade quietly into the background. He was the one people watched, the one people cheered for, and he wasn't about to let anyone forget it.
where: burke gala who: @luciansflint
Ludo spotted Flint before he spotted him. Not a difficult feat, really. Lucian had a habit of positioning himself just outside the center of things, just far enough to avoid becoming the focus of attention. Amused, he made his way over, drink in hand.
"So which one is it?" His expression remained perfectly innocent. "The witch you've got your eye on, or the witch who's got hers on you." Only then did he glance over with a grin. "Don't tell me it's neither." His gaze swept the ballroom once more. "Because if you're not going to make a move, I'll have to do all the work myself, and frankly, I wasn't planning on spending my evening arranging introductions."
where: burke gala who: @heartofgoldandfire
"Lils, dear," The greeting came with an easy smile as Ludo stepped alongside her. "I was beginning to think Potter had hidden you somewhere." His gaze swept briefly across the ballroom as though searching for James. "Or perhaps you've hidden yourself from Potter. Which, admittedly, would be understandable." A quiet laugh followed. "Enjoying yourself?"

"Merlin, Fawley, don't tell me you've come chaperoned." Ludo chimed as he appeared beside her with the sort of grin that generally preceded trouble. His gaze flickered toward her parents at the other end of the ballroom before returning to her. "I thought by now you'd have at least acquired a scandalous suitor to drag around these things. Or are your mother and father still interviewing candidates?" He tilted his head thoughtfully. "Actually, that's unfair. Maybe they're interviewing you." His grin widened.
@lvdobagmans | the gala of galas
Any gala that had a bar or a section for drinks and refreshments of any kind was one Emmeline Vance could get behind. Primarily cause it was something to do when one seemed intend on trying to avoid mingling until a familiar face came along, but also because drinks of any kind usually made whatever small talk came her way a lot easier. Her hand reached out for one of the drinks from the trays floating about when from the corner of her eye she spotted that familiar face; something worth turning around for.
"Is someone in need of a drink?" Her eyebrows shot up. "I would have thought you'd be out there, chasing the thrill." Whatever kind that was; flirting, gambling or perhaps a conversation about quidditch. Her face lit up with a smirk at the thought.
The familiar voice caught his attention before the words properly registered. Ludo turned, drink halfway to his hand, and immediately found himself grinning. "Someone has to keep the drinks company." The excuse came easily enough as he finally claimed a glass from a passing tray. The truth was that he'd spent most of the evening drifting from conversation to conversation, enjoying himself well enough but never staying anywhere for very long. Galas were entertaining, but they demanded a certain performance. Smiles, charm, stories. He was good at it, but even he occasionally appreciated a break.
His gaze wandered briefly across the room before settling back on her, amusement lingering. "What have I missed?" he asked, lifting his glass slightly. "You've been here longer than I have. Any scandals, catastrophes, or particularly dreadful conversations I should know about?"
