im still fucking reeling from this moment in "Q Who" like what else am I supposed to think in this moment
So, Stargate SG-1 absolutely had problems with orientalism and with valorizing the US military, but I saw one criticism that was waaay off the mark.
The Ori definitely were not a caricature of Muslims, they were really blatantly meant to be a stand-in for Christianity.
Civilians dressed like European peasants, soldiers with stylized Norman helmets, all-male priests with tight collars who read from a big ‘ol book and dramatically slam it closed, robed staff-wielding prophets who inflict plagues on the unbelievers, a leader born from a magical pregnancy…
the Beatles would exist in star wars but they'd be actual beetles. they'd look like the real Beatles but w like insect antenna and they'd be part of an alien species who are all musicians. they'd all have star warsed versions of their names except for Ringo bcos Ringo Starr is already a star wars name.
“ao3 allows taboo fics about real-life children” yes, because
no censorship means nothing is censored, doesn’t matter how disturbing it is (and I avoid those fics because I find them extremely disturbing)
being against censorship and hosting works that are banned on other platforms is the main reason ao3 was created in the first place
ao3 abides by u.s. laws, and apparently this is legal in america — everything that is legal in america is allowed on ao3
“how is this different from ai deepfake and csam?” because unlike deepfake and csam, fanfic is written text. written text is legal, unless maybe portrayed in extremely realistic and accurate details (not just explicit), but that’s the legal aspect reserved for courtroom if a legal action is taken against a specific fic.
if you have a problem with this, you can either create your own fanfic platform or use other pro-censorship platforms of your choice.
if you choose the platform that upsets you, if you choose to seek contents that upset you, then you’ll never stop being upset about things that 1. are not your business 2. can only upset you if you choose to keep looking at them.

Daniel’s pose in the back is frying me
This episode was particularly harrowing for the good Colonel O'neill, which was actually rather fitting as Richard Dean Anderson wasn't at his sparkling best during filming. "I don't think I was in too laughy a mood because I just had some knee surgery. We had this set on gimbals that would move up and down, and because of the surgery, I couldn't do the tumbling that I wanted to down the walls. So I was a little limited, and I'm not fond of limited in any way." There was one bright light on his horizon, though: "Working with Michael, I love. In fact, he came back a couple times in season six, and we've had some great one-on-one scenes. The powers that control these things seem like to put us both in a bag and shake it up. I really enjoyed that aspect of working with him. He and I have an innate understanding of rhythm in our scenes. It's easy working with Michael, because you can look over at him and see the light is — on. So it's all good."
