in mean. at this point yknow. cops are always right too. they never shoot innocent civilians. the united states justice system works and rehabilitates ppl instead of just using prisons as a new form of slavery. we dont have facists in our government. climate change is fake. capitalism is good and saving the planet.

This quickly gets into a lot of complex issues and I don't want to turn this into a thesis paper, but centering youth and cuteness (which is still feminine-coded, it's hard to shake) as being key features of the non-binary identity leads to anyone who isn't representative of those things being treated as suspect. At risk of oversimplifying a bit, it's how people who are read as 'too masculine' get told they're not welcome at events for "women and non-binary people."

words that nonbinary ppl make up for themselves are not why were being infantilized. viewing new words that have nothing to do with children as inherently infantilizing adds to it and does not help in any fucking way. im sorry ur 34 and no longer feel joy around ur partner but the word joy is in no way more infantilizing than boy or girl. 

im so fucking tired of every time a nonbinary person creates a new word to use for their specific experience everyone has to jump on it and be like this is infantilizing this is bad this is awful. just because somethings cute doesnt make it inherently infantilizing like god ppl call their partners baby and babe all the time and no one says thats inherently infantilizing. no one has a problem with honey and sugar and sweetie and bear and love and darling and dear and ect ect ect. those are cute. 

if u wanna talk about the infantilization of the nonbinary community which is an issue. i will admit to that. i have dealt with it myself. do it by making a fucking post about *that* and dont throw words made by nonbinary people for nonbinary people under the fucking bus while doing it. 

im 20. i can do fun things like go to the doctor and pay rent and have a job and oh my fucking god have sex. and i can do all of those while still being referred to as a joyfriend or a datemate. or using neopronouns. or being called an enby instead of an nb bc nb also stands for nonblack. or whatever the fuck is inherently infantilizing next week for no reason other than some fucking person online decided it was an everyone went with it. 

the only reason words like that arent viewed as inherently infanitlizing are bc ppl like u say so. and u get so offended by the idea that these words could be a nonbinary thing. im 20 and i pay for things and i fuck and im nonbinary and i use neopronouns and i like terms like joyfriend and datemate. and none of those things are contradictory. there shouldnt be any connotations around those words bc theyre new they have existed before we get to form what they mean but yall on here wont leave nonbinary ppl who like them be. 

tldr: theres nothing inherently infantilizing about joyfriend im sorry that u all are too bitter and unhappy to look at that word and go oh its a play off of boyfriend and joy is a feeling that my partner gives me so the word makes sense. i dont like it but theres nothing wrong with it. 

its not like doctors are ever wrong. its not like theres an epidemic of doctors gatekeeping things from trans ppl and being wrong. its not like doctors have a tendency to refuse to treat u like a human being if ur a minority. /s
