i want to see aro headcanons without the character also being hc'ed as ace

i want to see aro headcanons where the character is aromantic because they just are, not because they "don't understand romance"

i want to see romance-repulsed aro headcanons

i want to see aro headcanons where the character doesn't have internalised aphobia

i want characters other than the gross or unfeeling or "crazy" characters to be hc'ed as aro

i don't want to have to explain my aro headcanons for them to be valid

As an alloaro, I feel like I have more in common with any orientation other than asexuality. And that’s not me saying that I have a problem with asexual people, they’re great, it’s just that we’re actually very different from each other.

I think a lot of it comes from the wider lgbtq+ community seeing asexual and aromantic people as basically the same since both experience a lack of attraction in some way.

I think if also comes from the fact that many people see aromntiscim at a subset of asexuality when it is actually something very different. Most people will see that the main word for bi is bisexuality and if someone says otherwise, people will assume that the person is also biromantic. And that is the case for many people. But that becomes a problem when it it’s applied to asexuality and aromantiscm. And since most other ‘main parts’ of orientations usually end with ‘sexuality’ it is assumed that asexuality is the main orientation while aromantic people are a subset, which is incorrect. This view can often work to exclude aromantic people from the aspec community too and is incredibly harmful.

Now all of this isn’t to say I dislike alloace people, I love them. While I don’t have much in common with alloace people, were still both queer and I will still stand p for them no matter what. It’s just that I want people to understand that alloaro people and alloace people shouldn’t be grouped together because of some basic ideas and arophobia. We should have a space to talk about our common experiences and problems, but it’s also important that we have spaces for just alloaros and just alloaces.

because let me tell you this: if combating alloarophobia, and wanting equal treatment in the community is something that’s going to require fighting (which it will), that is a fight worth having. as ace and aro people have struggled to become accepted in the LGBTQ+ community due to exclusionists trying to keep them out, that caused “in-fighting” in the LGBTQ+ community, didn’t it? so why are alloaros not able to ask for more respect in aspec spaces? why is that the thing that everyone seems to disregard as unnecessary?

it’s hardly a question, though. we all know what the answer to that is, even if nobody wants to say it.
