Hiked from the coastline to Cone Peak. Traversed beautiful cliffs overlooking the ocean, passed through green meadows, roamed along a creek, and hugged giant redwood fatties. Ridiculously gorgeous trail but completely underestimated the difficulty level. Took us 13 hours to hike 23 miles round trip and ascend/descend 10,000 feet of total elevation. The last five miles back to our campsite was in total darkness except for our headlamps guiding us on a two-foot wide path trailing along 500-foot cliffs. Went into the woods today to clear my angry head and battled the freezing wind temps and icy trails for a quarter of a day. Found the abandoned tent from the previous picture, one week later. It managed its way to other side of this peak. Roamed around some mountain top and spotted this abandoned tent billowing in the breeze a couple hundred yards away. We approached the tent uneasily expecting to find human body remains from the aftermath of a bear mauling, or worse, a group of mountain bandits waiting to ambush us. But no, there was only a tipped over can of Spaghetti-O's and a backpacking stove (which I happily took ownership of).
