i’m so fucking proud of charles today. he said yesterday that if he failed, it would be his fault, but if he succeeded, he wanted the credit. he deserves every drop of it. his sacrifice 10000% paid off and he stuck to his guns with confidence and showed insane maturity this weekend that we have really started to see bloom the last year or so. beautiful start, hung in there patiently when the race wasn’t coming to him and his tire selection rewarded him in the end. he’s somehow, even in one of his worst career cars, getting better every single weekend.
It's not that Max initially helped Charles advance on Lando during the race – because obviously it was for his own gain rather than Charles'. Charles stealing valuable championship points from Lando helps Max stick closer to the lead.
It's the trust. It's knowing your on-track competitor can be roped into your little games because they are capable, and are capable of helping you out. They were like stay out in case a potential red flag helps his race, or hold Lando back long enough to give Charles a chance to overtake and take the lead on a track where it is impossible to pass others. But this is Charles, he might just find a way to exceed the impossible.
It's knowing your fellow competitor can be used for your own gain because he is capable. There is just something about these on-track games that are so beautiful, regardless of the end results.
