Ads Are Coming To Instagram BY KIT EATON, fastcompany.com
It was only a matter of time. Starting within the next year, Instagram will try to make money by showing advertisements.
Instagram will embrace advertising within the next year as part of a plan to monetize its photo-based social network,…
Not sure about you but I remember leaving websites that had annoying advertising banners. Life on repeat...because now it's apps.
Video isn’t breaking the internet: The industry giants are Stacey Higginbotham, gigaom.com
The web can’t handle video, goes the common refrain. For example, Comcast estimates that if people wanted to watch the television content they watch on its pay TV service using the web, each home would consume 648 gigabytes per month.…
Our video experience online is still troubled. There are multiple points of failure and the big players need to be more transparent with consumers. This is worth reading if you are a business looking at cloud based video solutions or just a general consumer. Might help with your analysis and requirements.

iMockups makes designing wireframes as delicious as a late night oreo cookie
I must admit I had been pondering for some time as to whether I'd buy this app. I had read reviews that confirmed iMockups as easy to use and quick, but I'd also read it had some limitations in how many interface elements it included.
Anyway recently I came up with my own personal mobile app idea and thought I'd give it a whirl.
I'm addicted. It is so so fast and so so easy. I absolutely love this app.
I haven't been able to stop using it. Sitting up later in the evenings after work designing is a lot of fun. Yes that is slightly sad. Sometimes, I play it cool and write a song instead but I do love living and breathing this stuff. I am a Geek Girl.
It took my less than 2 minutes to pull together my first screen. I felt like it was just effortless to convert my brain wave thoughts into a delicious set of wireframes. Very cool.
I do wish there were more screen elements to choose from. The grouping tool was a bit annoying to begin with and so was the floating properties screens.
If you want to quickly conceptualise and get your wireframe drafts moving quickly, you have to try this app.
Streamified a way to follow the noisy stream ?
I downloaded Streamified a relatively new app that allows you to follow and interact with your Facebook, twitter and LinkedIn news feeds from one spot. I love the concept. It's more seamless and I don't hve to jump between different apps to keep updated with what's going on in my network. There's just one prob... The app is slow. Very easy to use but slow! Maybe they will put out a fix soon. If you need to aggregate multiple feeds to get yourself one succinct calmer stream then Streamified is a good choice.
Overdub - that old four track feeling
I am on the older end of gen Y and so I can remember the old four track recorders used for doing your basic band demo. I never had one though. Couldn't afford it on my school pocket money, and my folks couldn't afford to buy me one for my birthday. So, now I've got one. It's on my iPad. Overdub is the app I am talking about. I love the interface. It follows the tape deck player metaphor. I've stuck with the free version for now. However, I'm going to unlock the full capability. I think this is a great way of doing a quick demo with your G tar and vox. you can then share your track with your band pals by uploading to soundcloud. For sharing concepts this is a great app. It would be great though if it had its own web storage so you could continue to build on your songs as a collective. Right now it feels very one sided. The interface is pretty intuitive but I think you have to be familiar with recording music at a basic level. If you get the whole thing about "laying down tracks" you will be right.... :) I'm no pro have just used products like Garage Band, Pro Tools and Reason for doing demos and working on certain tracks for commercial stuff I've done in the past. Overdub is a lot of fun and to get you started just use the free version :)
Best free news related apps
Nice and frank.... Flipboard This is probably my favourite app. I view it every day on either my smart phone or tablet. I just love he magazine style view and it is very easy to use. My favourite feeds on this app that I have saved include: My Modern met gamification Brain pickings Good PSFK Cool infographics blog Discovery space HBR My other favourite news apps includee: Pulse Zite Ted Mashable RWW Some of these apps are technology related...sorry about that. They are good to follow though if you want to keep up to date with the latest apps across all sorts of genres :)
Digital ease with Sugar Sync = very accomplished
I'm a big fan of cloud storage and it's already making my life easier in terms of storing my media outside of my home. I no longer have to worry about backing up to 3 or more external hard drives and asking my in-laws, parents and siblings to mind. One we get better connectivity I'm going to be able to store my large music composition files online. It will be even easier to work remotely with my music friends, collaborate....wow what a fun world!
So, recently I got an iPad and I already have an iPhone 4. I wanted an easier way to share files between my personal devices, including my Mac computer.
I read some great reviews of Sugar Sync and thought I'd give it a whirl.
I'm looking at Sugar Sync in terms of personal use rather than corporate. If you are using the latter scenario you might be cringing with security or risk concerns. That's just not my area. I'm more about UX and the concept in general of how we make our digital lives easier, faster and with community spirit! lol
I love it. It's easy to use. Very intuitive and just simple. I love the fact that almost immediately my files are synced across all the devices through that beautiful cloud!
Yesterday, I was out having breakfast and was able to take a photo of the delightful meals presented and then post straight to my blog (I Ate Melbourne) all from Sugar Sync. What an easy, fast and light way to evolving a seamless experience for sharing your digital assets and favourite things with others. It literally took seconds to do. Well, maybe a minute.
One thing I would love, and maybe you can do this already, but to be able to post my media into family or friends sugar sync storage; if they are open to it. I know with my family we love to share photos as we are all living in different locations.
Thank you Sugar Sync - I love Cloud!
Here's another blog comparing Sugar Sync with DropBox.
