ALL ABOUT JONESY

so i determined 1980 after some researching bc where I found these photos detailed they were taken in 1980. I also thought it was closer to 1977, but the first photos we have of his hair being short are at rehearsals for Tour Over Europe which I don't believe were until May.

What I really think makes this closer to 1980 or maybe 1979 is that from the looks of other photos in this set, they are at his home, but not Warren House. The Jones family moved to Devon in 1979 I believe.

I’ve simply never seen anyone look more like a plank of wood from Home Depot than this man in this photo

John is a double Capricorn (his sun and moon signs). I believe this is why he understands the music so well. It is very Capricorn to understand the delicate balance of what needs adjusted and what is perfect. He knows how to create a solid foundation for the rest of the song. He, along with Bonzo, set the tone for the song. Robert and Jimmy are the most noticeable components of the music. But John and Bonzo are the ones working the background to make the song. 

Capricorn’s are ambitious and sensitive. This sensitivity is the key to his craft. In Kashmir, he knew exactly what the song needed. So he added a Pakistan string section. This provides a beautiful undertone. It is a driving force in the haunting quality of the song. 

All four members are integral parts of the band. There is no argument that a change in members would have resulted in a much lower quality band. They understood each other in such a magical way. But without Jonesy, a special sound would definitely be lacking. Especially in their later albums. In Presence and In Through The Out Door his prints are in deep in the cement of the sound. His classical music training is very evident. And it’s always appreciated by the rest of the song. You can hear the rest of the sounds bend and shape to his bass and various instruments. 

Imagine Stairway without the opening recorder. That was Jone’s influence and direct idea. But he is never gratuitous or ostentatious. He has a practicality that is never rigid or stingy. He knows exactly what to give and how much of it is needed. It is a treat to hear him on songs like Dazed and Confused where is talent is explicitly heard. He adds an important chemical in overall science.
