Mokes

I’m going to speak about Mokes today because I actually am quite familiar with them! My family is from Ireland and I from England; thus, I have experienced Mokes quite a few times in my childhood and adolescent life. Mokes are extremely interesting because of this magical power that allows them to shrink at will. Mokeskin bags are actually a popular trade in the village in which parents were born and raised, and I have a few of them in my possession now. I have a family friend that raised Mokes for her Mokeskin shop, and there were a few times as a child that we would stop by her house and I would watch the Mokes. Unfortunately, I did find myself scarred at one point by these creatures when we stopped by just after one of her Mokes had a clutch. The baby Mokes were cute, I suppose, even if a bit tiny. However, that thought was completely lost to me once I saw that one of the Mokes had its sibling's tail in his mouth! I remember being terrified and running to find my mother, but my family friend came forward instead to assure me that that happens sometimes. Then she separated the baby that was causing problems, which she said would fix things. In any case, I'm glad that that experience had only been a one-time thing and that I haven't seen anything so macabre since!

Pogrebins

Today, I will be speaking about my time with Pogrebins. As a native to Europe, I hadn’t been accustomed to them or really even remembered they existed until I decided to take a brisk walk while on holiday with my family to visit my aunt’s family in St Petersburg. These creatures are interesting because of their ability to hide in plain sight as a rock... unfortunately for me, this was my downfall as I started taking my walk.

I had been captivated by the pure white landscape of my tetya’s back garden under the snow; it was so quiet and serene without a single thing disrupting it. If I had looked closer, though, I may have seen peculiar rocks that didn’t look snow-covered at all, but I didn’t or I at least didn’t register them. However, my senses were heightened when I felt a vibrating in my pocket, underneath allof the layers needed to get through a Russian snow. My tetya had placed that device on my person just before I went outside, and upon reading this lesson, I understand why. Thankfully, I had taken her advice and simply left that area as quickly as possible instead of looking around to investigate.

And thank Merlin I did, because I certainly did not want to be the prey of a hungry Pogrebin!

Books versus movies:

I’ve read the books first I’ve watched the movies first I like the books better I like the movies better I like the movie version of a character better I’m more emotional about the books I like that they aged the Marauders, Lily and Snape up I missed Peeves I missed Merope I missed Charlie I picture some characters as their actors while reading I think the movies are illogical I don’t think people who only watched the movies are real fans I think the books are too long I dislike most of the actors I like changes they’ve made in the movies

Sybill Trelawney never had friends, nor was her work respected, except by two young girls and one of them died. Sybill Trelawney wasn’t even respected by the other staff members and was used as a pawn in Dumbledore’s chess game. Sybill Trelawney was a miserable alcoholic who nearly got fired from her job, because she couldn’t produce prophecies on demand.

Sybill Trelawney’s only crime as a teacher was being melodramatic and eccentric and predicting horribly accurate prophecies. She never received appreciation or even the tiniest amount of respect from her own students, and essentially existed as an eccentric butt monkey for all of the books.

Sybill Trelawney was one of the most tragic characters in the whole series.

Nifflers

After a prolonged absence from my wizarding studies, in which I struggled with muggle jobs and school, as well as some scary mental health things, I’m glad to say I’m now back to learn!

My return post to my creature journal will be about Nifflers - cute little creatures that have a predilection towards shiny objects. (But don’t we all?) I have a personal connection with Nifflers, as I often see them near my home - trying to break in to snatch something shiny away from me, I imagine. Now that I’ve begun my magical education I understand what these creatures truly are and how to handle them, and I actually hope now to one day keep one - they’re so adorable!

I’m currently in the process of building an underground habitat for my future Niffler - which I’m tentatively calling Nellie - as well as learning the required spells for it to remain in its intended area outside. Despite the fact that it seems easier for me to simply take a wild Niffler and attempt to domesticate it, I will instead be purchasing one from a breeder in order to strengthen our bond.

I’ll be sure to post pictures/updates once I bring Nellie home!
