All Things Dolly

Hi all, it’s your friendly neighbourhood Damasquerade here. A lot of people seem intimidated by ordering from Taobao so I thought I’d finally get off my ass and make a quick tutorial! I’ve been ordering BJD stuff from Taobao through Spreenow for years. There’s a huge range of clothes, wigs, eyes, accessories and legit dolls you can’t get anywhere else, and the prices are amazing.

Patterns are really dumb in telling you to finish the body of an outfit, then finish the sleeve, then attach a circle to a circle. It’s possible to do, don’t get me wrong, but unless you have a lot of experience it’s sometimes very aggravating trying to evenly distribute the sleeve around the “hole” cut out for it and match up the seams under the armpit!

(Please note…some patterns, especially to achieve tailored looks, require you to do it the traditional way. Don’t use this method for fashion school assignments or super-complex garments as it will probably screw up the way it ends up fitting in the end. This is mostly for the use of cosplayers to make their job a little easier.)

SO THIS IS WHAT I DO.

So, we all know what and who Resinsoul is. If you’re new to the hobby, that’s probably the first place you’re redirected to, since at the beginning, the prices of BJDs are daunting and the Resinsoul dolls are in the lower price region. As you go along in this hobby, you get several further experiences of that company – people will talk bad about it, they will call it cheap, they will talk down on the quality, they will probably mention the lesser aesthetics of the sculpts, they will have opinions about people that buy Resinsoul dolls, and you’ll be aware of this sort of wide spread fear of getting an RS-doll because of the “hate” you’re going to recieve.

I’ll get to that in a moment.

Instead, I’ll start with the company…

Resinsoul is, by far, one of the best companies out there. Why? Here’s a few reasons why. 1) If you e-mail Resinsoul, you will get the most polite reply from Sun within 24h. Every time. Unless it’s a weekend or they’re having some sort of holiday in China. 2) You can e-mail Sun and mix and match between different sculpts and their body parts. You want the SD-sized hands on the MSD single jointed torso but with double jointed arms and a Tiny head on top of that? No, friggin’ problem at all for Resinsoul! I’m sure your Frankenstein monster will even give them a good laugh as they assemble it for you. 3) You can get different body parts in different resin colours, which leads to number 4) which is ALL THE FRIGGIN’ COLOURS you can choose from. Some companies have one or two, this company has 10 colours listed, and going to reason number 5) they even have more colours than they have listed on their company page. In fact, you can basically ask for any colour you want your doll in, and they’re happy to oblige. 6) If you have a head from a different company, you can send them the head cap and they will make a custom colour body. Just for you. 7) You can order extra parts. Any parts. Hands and feet are those standard extra parts you can order from plenty companies, but Resinsoul? You want a lower leg part, sure! An extra arm? Absolutely. You want an upper torso? Why not! But it will be expensive, won’t it? Actually, no – the prices vary from $10-15, which in this hobby is considered laughably cheap. 8) Not only are they looking to accommodate you and your order in all these ways, but you can even ask for custom orders, meaning you can get different ears on different sculpts if you so like. 9) When you get your doll home, you’ll need a microscope to find any sanding marks or seams on the doll. It’s beyond perfection. 10) If you’re not good with doing a face up or lack the materials, Resinsoul will provide a face up for your doll for simply $10. What was that? That’s right, $10! 11) They’re one of the few companies that will give you fantasy parts, like horns and wings and dragon feet and hooves, without draining your wallet entirely. 12) And as if all of these reasons weren’t enough, they will take your order, pack it in a carriage bag, send it out and you’ll have the doll on your doorstep in approx 30 days. 13) Omg, are you serious. Do you even need more reasons than that??

To sum up. Resinsoul is a company that will do practically anything for their customers, their customer service is beyond everything and they have one of the shortest waiting times in this hobby. They also hold some of the lowest prices and the widest range of resin colours. People talking bad about the quality cannot have been in contact with a Resinsoul or they don’t know what the meaning of quality is (my Song fell over on my drawer and bumped his nose – it made a mark, in my drawer. The nose is fine as it ever was!)

And people call them cheap. 

And people tend to look down on the sculpts.

I own four Resinsouls and I plan on getting plenty more. I’ve never received any sort of hate for my Resinsoul guys.

So, if you want to get a Resinsoul. Get a Resinsoul. You’ll be sure to love them and if you’re a beginner in this hobby, you will be in the most humble and nicest hands. Resinsoul will answer all your question and be as helpful as you ever wish them to be.

Resinsoul is a company that should be setting the standard of customer service, and be regarded as one of the best BJD companies when it comes to their wide range of resin colours and sculpts and custom orders.

Instead they get this really bad rep by reasons I cannot understand. So here’s to you, dear Resinsoul! I tilt my hat, and thank you, for the dolls and kindness and the variety and love you bring to this wonderful hobby.

Translations that can help when you buy something from Chinese based websites: (such as Taobao or AliExpress)

Remember you can also use Google Translate…

You enter the “English” sentence and then translated to Chinese (I use “simplified” and not traditional but it’s up to you).

You will get a bunch of Chinese characters you most likely won’t understand, copy them, paste them again on the translator and now reverse the translation from Chinese to English to be sure what you are saying is accurate (try to keep it simple and short).

But if the sentence hasn’t being translated correctly by Google, think of a way to say the same thing with shorter or different words and repeat the process. This might be taking you a bit more but trust me it’s the best way to communicate with Chinese seller who might not understand English quite well.
