so i keep saying i’m back and then i’m not back and i feel like a liar but in my defence, life seems dead set on throwing curveball after curveball and i’m struggling to just keep up with it. i’m trying desperately to get together some semblance of a routine/schedule but it’s proving difficult.

that said, i’ll have a little over a month off work soon becauuuuuuse i’m getting top surgery! 

on the 29th of this month to be exact, three days after my birthday. damn.

so i’ve been prepping for that whilst also going on a trip, working a lot, and losing a loved one, and i haven’t had much time or energy for anything but playing red dead redemption 2. 

but again, i wanna be here! i wanna write! I just… need to find the time.

      Oh, if only the alarm bells would shut up. Or… sirens? Alarms would insinuate there was a reason to be upset or concerned, which weren’t exactly accurate emotions. Sirens though would indicate that maybe an ambulance was on its way which after the blundering and the embarrassment, would be far more adequate. Either way, Jeremy couldn’t think over the nonexistent noise in his head as he fumbled with his papers, then his sleeves, then brushed himself off quickly to try and lessen some of the wrinkles in his clothes. 

      The coffee smelled good. (Robin smelled good too but of course he did, he had probably showered and everything this morning and not stayed up all night studying the biological ins and outs of freaking monsters.) Jeremy gratefully accepted it, offering a sheepish smile in response, about to say thank you before Robin spoke again. Then he found himself glad he hadn’t taken a sip of the coffee yet - he surely would have choked on it if he had.

      “I–no! Why would I–why would you–” Okay, he had to give up, he was getting nowhere. Dropping what little facade he had been trying to create, he sighed, a faint laugh somewhere in the exhale. “Okay, fine. A little. But only ‘cause I’m off my game, I, uh… I didn’t sleep much last night. Work stuff.” He rose to his feet, still holding the mug, and crossed the room to the sofa with the coffee table in front of it, a decidedly more comfortable place to chat. He patted the sofa cushion next to him, a silent offer to Robin to sit. “I hope you slept well, at least. What are you doing today anyway?”

Robin again has to bite back a laugh, knowing the anxious behavior of the other man almost by heart now. Trademarks as it were. All of which he finds so painfully adorable. He simply stands patiently waiting for Jeremy to shake out his jitters energetically, just offering a warm, knowing smile as he watches. He can all but see the gears in the other’s brain turning as he finally reaches for the mug. He can just see the pause his slight flirtation causes and almost apologizes for being inappropriate when Jeremy begins to stumble over his words, the verbal incontinence causing him to take his lower lip between his teeth in an effort to abate more laughter. The expression more suggestive than he might have intended.

He gives another light squint as Jeremy concedes, a slow smirk tugging at the corner of his lips as he continues to tease him. “Oh is that what this is? Sleep depravation? Got it.” The taller man takes a sip of coffee from his own mug, feigning a nod of understanding, and rolling his lips in. “I can’t say I wouldn’t love to see what you look like on your game…” Okay, maybe he was just trying to get a rise out of him now.

      He cleared his throat, about to respond to the comment on sleep deprivation... and sidetracked yet again by a... was that flirting? Oh my god, was he flirting? Jeremy took a sip of his coffee, trying to slow his heartbeat - which on second thought meant coffee might not be the best idea, but work with what ou have. “I--I mean, maybe that’ll happen someday. Sometime. Uh...” Oh my god, you are hopeless.

      Almost relieved for the opportunity to change subjects, even if it was... a date? He was asking Jeremy on a date? Or maybe he shouldn’t read too much into it--well, no-- 

      He shook his head slightly, firmly deciding to rid himself of his thoughts. “Um, no! I mean yeah! I mean... I mean, that sounds great. I could eat.” God, actually, how long had it been since he’d eaten properly? He had snacked on some veggie sticks the night before at... some point. “I mean, if you’re sure. I’d love to see some of the special Robin spots in Purgatory - you’ve lived here, you gotta know where all the sweet spots are, right?”

1) this is a ship and let ship blog.

proshipper, anti anti, whatever you like to call it. if you do not like a ship, simply skip over the content! block the tag! it is simple: you do not have to interact with content you do not like! no one is harming you by posting or interacting with content you find “Problematic™️” or dislike! no one on the internet owes you anything. it is up to you to curate your dash.

2) the “you must be x to write x” trend is harmful.

it asks people to reveal details about themselves that may be dangerous, painful to go through, or simply uncomfortable. once again, no one on the internet owes you anything. how much, if any, personal information someone puts on the internet is up to them, and it is not up to you to decide whether they have “permission” to write something, whether it be “Problematic™️” or not. up until less than two years ago, i did not think i was part of the queer community, but i was writing queer fanfiction. does this make me “Problematic™️”?

you don’t always know if the person writing x really is x—surprise, people can lie or not share that information—and in any case, it isn’t your business. bad portrayals exist—from within and without the community. we can simply not read them. sending hate mail to or doxxing anyone who doesn’t fit your blueprint of “who’s allowed to write xyz” is dangerous and downright awful. let me also remind you once more that i, and all other fanfic authors out there, owe you nothing. you do not have a right to my personal life.

at the heart of all this is the fact that fiction does not equal reality. sometimes people write unhealthy relationships to process trauma. you have no right to demand that knowledge. sometimes they write them because those dynamics are interesting to explore in a work of fiction that, again, does not equal reality. and again, you have no right to know why they write something. it is not up to the writer to impress morality upon the public. further, whether or not a work is moral has no bearing on its value as art. contrary to what purity culture would have you think, morality is entirely subjective and full of grey zones. you are not the sole arbiter of morality. if you disagree with an author’s work, simply do not interact with it.
