And, as a Jewish person, I know that 6 million very well could be murdered. This is not another Shoah, but it very well could become another. As a Jewish person, I feel we must say “never again.”

“Never again” does not mean “this event was so uniquely horrible, it could never happen again.” It means “this event was horrible, but not unique. We have to make sure it never happens again.”

The Uyghur death count isn’t 6 million, that is misinformation. But “never again” means we have to make sure it doesn’t become 6 million.

If you are not Jewish or Romani, do not draw comparisons to the Holocaust. All that provides is shock value and misinformation. What you can do is support Uyghur Muslims.

Less than two weeks after the worlds strongest typhoon (Typhoon Rolly/Goni) devastated the Philippines–leaving areas such as the Bicol region extremely vulnerable–another typhoon swept through the archipelago and this time, the damage is much much worse.

Typhoon Ulysses (International Name: Vamco) entered the Philippines last November 11, 2020. It sustained winds of 150 kilometers (90 miles) per hour, leaving millions of Filipinos without electricity in its wake, with over 100,000 evacuations (and counting) due to the flooding of numerous places such as Marikina City in Metro Manila as well as in Cagayan, who is currently experiencing its WORST flooding in decades due to the gates of the Magat dam opening up.

Cagayan Valley is currently submerged in flood water, making it difficult to enter the area due to strong currents and debris. Relief operations and media coverage are also delayed due to COVID quarantine measures which make it extra difficult to enter Cagayan. Moreover, there was low to zero visibility which hindered air rescue. Due to this, operations had to be halted until the next day. Videos and audio of children screaming in the night circulated around twitter. It was later reported that the children in the video did not make it.

There is an evident lack of media coverage, with media outlets getting their information from Twitter where #CagayanNeedsHelp started trending. 

The people of Cagayan have been stranded on top of their homes, waiting hours and hours to be rescued. There have been reports of dead bodies–mostly children–floating around, while other residents have died due to being electrocuted by charged water. The mayor of Tuguegarao, Cagayan was not present during the calamity. He was in Manila celebrating his birthday with his family.

Please do not turn your back on the people of Cagayan. We need your help. My country is suffering and we all need each other during this time. The people we were supposed to rely on have abandoned us. Please please help if you can.

If you have no means to make a monetary donation, please don’t feel guilty! Bangon Luzon (Kaya Natin! Movement)

Bangon Luzon is an initiative by the Kaya Natin! Movement, “a movement where Filipinos can help push for electoral reform, people empowerment, and the crusade against all illegal activities.” 

Bangon Luzon is a direct partnership with the Philippine Vice-President, Leni Robredo, the wife of one of the founders of Kaya Natin! Proceeds will go towards the distribution of food items and relief assistance to the places most affected by the typhoon.

For Our Farmers is a registered non-profit organization which aims to assist farmers affected by the pandemic and the recent calamities.

Donation Drive for Cagayanos (Pawssion Project)

“PAWSSION FOUNDATION is a Bacolod-based rescue group mainly for dogs. We rescue, rehab and rehome.”

The Pawssion Project foundation will go to Cagayan province next week (November 23 onwards) to provide support and assistance to all the furry victims and even the hoomans that need help. They also need in-kind donations for dog food, bowls, drinking water, and cleaning materials. Help the puppers and the doggos please:(

Commoner Hope Fund (Media Commoner x PAGASA PH)

Media Commoner is an organization which aims to break down relevant–yet complicated–news and information for the public. 

People for Accountable Governance and Sustainable Action (PAGASA PH) is an organization which seeks to build a new civil society by gathering like-minded individuals in order to provide information about relevant issues. 

(fun fact: “pagasa” means hope in Filipino!)

These two organizations have teamed up in order to provide food supplies and hygiene kits which will be delivered from Manila to points in Cagayan Valley. PAGASA.PH also has an on-going initiative, which provides food for those in evacuation centers.

San Mateo Pound (Animal Kingdom Foundation x San Mateo Pound)
