let me preface this by saying that i really love both of my jobs.
but like.
isn’t it fucked up that low-wage jobs are super fucking hard on your body? and like, standing for 8+ hours with bending, crouching, and lifting, is basically guaranteed to fuck your bod up? and the suggestions are to get better shoes, get regular massages, buy a better mattress, get acupuncture, go to the chiropractor, see a physical therapist, etc., and like, motherfucker where do you think i am going to get that money? can you imagine being afraid of your boss, because your entire livelihood lays in broseph’s hands, and asking for anti fatigue mats?
i recently paid 12+ hours worth of work for one singular pair of shoes. not even a pair that i can wear all the time or all year, but a pair that works for most of my work-appropriate outfits at one of my jobs, a pair i can sometimes get away with at the second job, a pair that will work for part of the year weather-wise. 12 hours! almost 2 days work to buy a singular goddamn pair of shoes, and the reality is that i need to do it at least once more to have my bases covered. (but thanks, the walking company, for your free orthotics. thanks also to planned parenthood for making sure i dont have kids so i can do this instead of having to feed some kids i ended up with!)
its just so fucked. house cleaners and fast food workers and retail folks all suffer physically, and to aide the damage that their jobs have on their body they really should be just putting that money right back into the ether. fuck that so hard.
