Nicki Minaj - The Villainizing of a Black Woman
Recently I have seen it has become extremely popular to hate Nicki Minaj especially in the black community, similar to when back in the day on Tumblr it was âcoolâ to hate on her on this website. I decided I wanted to understand what this was all about, and what I found out I realized I need to share.
*What I learned is this hate has always been extremely orchestrated. I will explain this more further down. Please stick with me.
Disclaimer: Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and I do not expect you to suddenly love Nicki Minaj, I just hope you open your eyes to another perspective like I did. Keep an open mind and realize this is not coming from a âobsessed superfanâ. Just someone that is studying research in college and found this interesting. All love, no hate.
Some Thoughts People Have On Minaj:
1. Nicki Minaj isnât real rap. Nicki Minaj is bubblegum rap, sheâs not hardcore anymore. Sheâs changed. 2. Nicki Minaj supports her rapist brother. 3. Nicki Minaj doesnât support other female rappers. 4. Nicki Minaj only donated to college students to help her image after rapper Remy Ma released the track âShetherâ. 5. Rapper Remy Ma âbodiedâ Nicki Minaj on her track. 6. Nicki Minaj does not care about her LGBTQ+ fans, she did not tweet about Orlando.
** All #s will be broken down below **
__________________________
Fact #1 - Record labels have been trying to rid Minaj from the music scene, perhaps since her decision to not sign with them. (Proof will be in #3)
This hate specifically coming from the black community is a direct result of manipulation by the media to sway African American opinion of Minaj and not have another âpowerful black womanâ as a role model specifically in the music industry.
Fact #2Â - Minaj IS breaking boundaries for women and what they can accomplish by being considered a âfemale rapperâ. (All without a 360 DEAL, very important to understand. Hence why Minaj saw this as an utmost importance to respond to in her record âNo Fraudsâ) (Also maybe why record labels are angry and paying artists to diss her - I address this later)
*This is not to brag her accomplishments, this is to show that no woman in rap has created a successful business empire since her. Â
- No female rapper was getting a clothing line deal as successful since her - No female rapper was getting perfume deals that were as successful as her - No female rapper was having success in both the music industry and movie industry at the SAME time. (The Other Woman, opened at #1 & Minaj has already had multiple albums at #1 all occurring around the same time.) - No female rapper was dominating the online market. (Millions of followers on Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, and even her own app.)
**Again something that was all accomplished without a 360 deal

1. Nicki Minaj isnât real rap. Nicki Minaj is bubblegum rap, not hardcore. She changed.
- This argument has been long running since Minajâs debut with âPink Fridayâ. Has Minaj changed? And the truth is she has. She has had to. To do something in the music industry that no other female rapper was doing before she had to change and create a new path.
- Minaj has stayed genuine and addressed this since her debut project with her record âDear Old Nicki.â
âBut I needed to grow, and I needed to know that there were some things inside of me that I need to showâ
Minaj has tried to put into words what this battle feels like, to come from a horrible up bringing but having to change for the better to financially take care of your family and friends.
âIn hindsight I loved your rawness and I loved your edge âCause it was you who talked me down from jumpinâ off the ledgeâ
*She has had to change to create an empire, she was not able to be the same girl from queens wearing bamboo earrings and long nails to CEO meetings with companies (âYour earrings bamboo, your long nails tooâ). She had to become a business woman to get partnerships with MAC, Pepsi, Roberto Cavalli, Adidas.
A person can change but who they do it for, and who they keep near them show their true character.
All while doing this she has kept her friends close by her side. -Her best friend from high school still travels the world with her and is close by. -She is paying for her families college tuition
- Just because their is bubble gum rap in her catalog does not mean their is not hardcore rap.
You have go out and find what you want to hear from Minaj, and trust me whatever you want is there.
âThe New York native also spoke on running into Hov and Beyonce in Paris where Hov told her that he really liked Chiraq and âLooking Ass.â
2007 - MIxtape
2015 - Third Studio Album
Minaj has broken the boundary and proved that Growth is Change.

2. Nicki Minaj supports her brother.
This has become one of the center fold pitch fork arguments that the media has sold to âshowâ Minaj as an awful person. When the fact is this is FALSE. Minajâs brother Jelani was arrested and since this news spread Minaj is the one that has taken the heat.
FACT: Minaj did not bail out her brother.
(Source:Â http://www.xxlmag.com/news/2015/12/nicki-minaj-didnt-post-brothers-bail/)
Fans of Minaj will immediately be able to tell she wants nothing to do with her brother. Nicki Minaj is known for shouting out her family and her friends names throughout her music.
2010 - âYou could never understand why I grind like I do ¡ Micaiah and Jelani why I grind like I doâ
Since this report came out Minaj has NEVER mentioned her brother again, even when she has had the opportunity she has only referred to her younger brother.
2017 - âNew dream house for mommy. Keep âCaiah in Armani. Putting my nieces through college. This for Kellise and Imani.
This witch hunt is a indication of the long running idea that people search and look to hunt the woman down for a manâs wrong doing. Was the woman an enabler? Was the woman supporting him? What was the woman doing during this?
An older Nicki Minaj Statement can apply here as well:Â

3. Nicki Minaj doesnât support other female rappers.
Minaj has continued to be portrayed as someone that does not support female rap, simply because she does not make music with them. Researching about the music industry, specifically the female rap industry will show you why this may be.
FACT: Record labels are paying female rappers to have a âbeefâ with Nicki Minaj.
Female rappers Cupcakke, Angel Haze and Lady Leshurr have admitted that Atlantic Records asked them to create diss records aimed towards Minaj.
-FACT: Nicki Minaj asked Remy Ma to be on a track with her and Foxy Brown, but Remy turned it down.
-FACT: Remy Ma unified with Lil Kim at the most recent Summer Jam after both woman had a common enemy⌠Minaj.
These black women are being used as nothing more than forms of entertainment and they are just gladly signing away their souls.
_______________
Knowing this how can Minaj know who to trust in the Industry?
âThe business kills so many people and we donât even realize it,â she says. âI can only imagine how many people in this business have died because they may not have wanted to⌠to be embarrassed publicly. We care so much about what the world thinks that we donât live, really.â
But what had happened to her? Had she fainted or had a panic attack?
âI donât even want to talk about it,â she says, avoiding eye contact.
Older Nicki Minaj Quotes:
I donât really care if they hate on you I be turning down meetings just to wait on youÂ
If you take your own life are you a sinner?Â
But you better be a hell of a sprinter. If youâre reading this letter, I done pulled the triggerÂ
______________
4. Nicki Minaj only donated to college students to help her image after rapper Remy Ma released the track âShether.â
This accusation is direct attack on Minajâs character solely based on opinion. This can be rebuffed with simple logic and fact.
FACT: Nicki Minaj has for the past few years discreetly sending money to a village in India where they have now been able to receive clean water and supplies.

5. Rapper Remy Ma âbodiedâ Nicki Minaj on her track.
-Rap has always been this notion that anything is fair game, but specifically in female rap disses, it is considered to have âbodiedâ someone or be good if it is full of false accusations and slut-shaming. The main reason âNo Fraudsâ was not considered a better diss track was because Minaj did not drag Remy Maâs name through the mud like so many people hoped she would have done, like Remy did with Minaj in âShetherâ.Â
When two black women are feuding it is a form of entertainment in the black community, and when one woman is not playing along (Minaj) she becomes villainized because she isnât giving the audience what they want.
Would Jay-Z respond to a diss by Lil Uzi Vert? - No, he would respond in one line in one song if he even did that. Â
- Rappers considered amongst the great, took almost 3 months to respond to diss records. (N.W.A)
- Fact: Remy Maâs diss was full of full of false accusations
Multiple people have admitted that Remyâs diss was full of lies.Â
-Fact: Remy Ma claimed she did not care about charts, BUT kept posting the rise of her record on social media
-Fact: After Remy Maâs second diss record âAnother Oneâ was ripped apart on social media for being awful, almost as if âShetherâ was written by someone else. Remy posted unreleased photos of Nicki Minaj on her Instagram as retaliation for the backlash, EVEN though Nicki Minaj herself had yet to address the situation.
______________
6. Nicki Minaj does not care about her gay fans, she did not tweet about Orlando.
FACT: Nicki Minaj since her FIRST album has shown love to the LGBTQ+ community.
-Direct quote from the Special Thanks in her first studio album booklet, years before the Orlando Tragedy.Â
âIâd also like to offer my love & condolences to the families of the kids who took their lives due to being bullied for who they were. Let he with no sin cast the first stone. God is the judge. Not liking someone's lifestyle, sexuality, color, religion, size, ideals, etc. is no reason to bully them to death.â
FACT: Nicki Minaj also liked a tweet stating that behind the scenes no one knows how she was attempting to help during the Orlando tragedy, and the possibility she wanted to stay anonymous to not get exposure due to the importance being of the lives lost, not the celebrities.
Fact: There are MANY well known artists that did not tweet about Orlando, and yet received no backlash.Â

*Now I would like to say this: I hope this villainizing of women who inspire and help people stops soon. Demonizing someone or trying to dim their light will not suddenly make someone elseâs light shine brighter.Â
