City Of Purity

Heyo! Hope you've been doing well!

Sorry I've been kind of dead on here, all my time got absorbed by Silksong since I finally had time to play it (I was too busy over the school year) and now I have two part time jobs.

This was my final assignment for my Design and Color II Class! Glad I finally got to do one with Tenna, lol. For this last assignment, after the regular things of 20 thumbnails three refined lines, we had to find an illustration we liked and use the colors from it in similar ratios to the original. We did two color studies and the class helped pick which one would become final.

The illustration I ended up pulling colors from is this beautiful one by @deltaqi!

For this assignment we had to take our own reference images of a location at two times of day, one with warm light and cool shadows (such as sunset) and one with cool light and warm shadows (such as indoor lighting through a window or just after the sun sets when the sky is still light). Night-time, which I wanted to do, is too dark for photographs. So I took a picture just after sunset and used the colors from it, only changing the sky to be darker. We then pulled colors from those photos to make our own illustrations. Some people just did a recreation of their exact photo, but I wanted to make an illustration of Levi, one of my JSAB AU characters. To do this I made sure my roommate, who I was photographing for the reference images, was wearing black, white, and pink so I could grab the colors I needed from the photo.

This was a hard assignment but I really like how both versions of the image turned out! I personally enjoy the night time one more than the sunset one, but they were both a fun challenge to make.

I don't have any thumbnails for this one since we were referencing specific photographs, but I do have some progress sketches/lines under the cut!

This was my most recent assignment for my Design and Color class! I had Deltarune on my brain so I made it about Spamton. This was actually my first time drawing Big Shot Spamton, I think it turned out pretty good!

The idea of this assignment is that we would create a composition with two possible focal points and to create one version where the viewer looks at the focal point because of value (lights/darks) and another where the viewer looks at it because of saturation (the brightness/intensity of a color). In the last version the values and saturation of both colors are exactly the same, the only difference is hue. This was to drill the point into us that hue is the least effective way to lead a viewer's eye around a piece when it's not paired with value, saturation, or both. We were also required to use complimentary colors, I chose red and green.

Like my other assignments I really like a lot of my thumbnail ideas and refined sketches that didn't get chosen for the final project. I will most likely make some finished pieces based off them on my own time.

Second assignment from my Design and Color class! The main focus of this assignment was creating harmony through the use of analogous colors and repeating shapes/colors. After we settled on a design (by first creating 20 thumbnail sketch, narrowing it down to the top two and making refined versions, then the class picking what they think is the best of the two for your final design) we made color studies to explore different analogous color pallets.

I ended going with a color pallet of blue, blue-green, and blue-violet. The repeating shapes/patterns are triangles/pointy shapes and swirls.

Though the colors aren't exactly cannon because this was a color pallet assignment, these are the two gods from my JSAB AU, City of Purity! The violet one (who is actually pink) is Karotayon, the god of death and corruption, while the blue-green one (who is actually just light blue/cyan), is Kinasyon, who is the goddess of life and purity. These gods are siblings who created the world together.

Time for some of the work I've completed this semester! This was my first assignment for my Design and Color II class! We first created a value and tint scale using one color, white, and black. We then used that value/tint scale for the colors in a full illustration!

This illustration is a full version of the last drawing I made for Inktober/OC-Tober. It's my version of the Annihilate scene from my JSAB AU "City of Purity".

The value scale, thumbnails, and sketches are under the cut! I really liked a lot of my thumbnails and refined sketches that didn't end up being chosen by my class, I will likely turn some of them into full illustrations in the future.

We all had to sculpt a vaguely human shaped character so I decided to model Spamton G Spamton!

I originally wanted to do one of my JSAB OCs but their facial anatomy isn't human enough (no nose, the head is too simply shaped, etc). I had a lot of fun modeling him though! It was also very frustrating at first because I had no idea what I was doing, (I had never sculpted before, only modeled polygonally) but I figured it out

I thought the clothes we're going to be really hard to model but they ended up being much more simple than I originally thought. His face however... Gave me a lot of trouble, lol.

For this last assignment we had to design a 3+ color risograph poster. Neat thing is that my college has a risograph printer that all students can use for free! Pretty neat. I've included both digital and printed versions of the image here.

The three colors I used were pink, blue, and cyan. Any other colors (like the purple) were created by layering the three by running the image through the printer multiple times. Due to that the blue ended up slightly offset from the cyan and pink. I mostly like the effect it gave, though.
