âyou really thought i forgot?â bf!Rafe Cameron x Reader

Morning came in slow through the blinds, thin gold lines across tangled sheets and bare shoulders. The room still held that warm, half-asleep quiet, where the world felt paused and nothing outside the bed mattered yet.
You were awake first, but barely. The kind of awake where your eyes were closed and you were just listening, to the distant ocean wind, the house settling, the steady breathing behind you.
Rafeâs arm was heavy across your waist, hand loosely curled like he fell asleep holding on and never let go.
His voice came out rough with sleep. âYouâre awake.â
âMm,â you hummed. âYouâre clingy.â
âYeah,â he said without hesitation. âDeal with it.â
You turned slightly in his arms. His hair was a mess, eyes still heavy-lidded, expression soft in that unguarded way he never let the rest of the world see.
His eyes widened a fraction, then he groaned and dragged a hand down his face.
Your stomach dipped not dramatic, just noticeable. âYeah.â
âI didnâtââ He pushed himself up on one elbow. âI didnât get you anything.â
You tried to keep your face neutral. âRafe, itâs fine.â
âNo, itâs not,â he muttered. âI meant to. I had it in my head and then this week got stupid andââ He exhaled hard. âI forgot.â
The words landed heavier than you expected. Not because you needed gifts, but because it was your first one together. Firsts mattered. Quietly.
âItâs okay,â you repeated, softer.
He leaned down, kissed your forehead, warm, lingering, apologetic. âIâll make it up to you. I swear.â
âYou donât have to make anything up.â
He slid out of bed, already running a hand through his hair, mind clearly moving fast now. You watched him pull on sweatpants and a shirt, restless energy replacing sleep.
âIâm gonna go downstairs,â he said. âStart coffee. Think.â
âThat sounds dangerous.â
He gave you one more quick kiss and disappeared out the door.
You stayed in bed a while, longer than you meant to.
At first you told yourself you were being chill about it. Mature. Not weird. Not expectant. But the longer you stared at the ceiling, the more the small disappointment settled in your chest.
Not sharp. Just⊠there.
He loved you. you knew that. Said it, showed it, proved it in a hundred non-holiday ways. Still, youâd pictured this morning a little differently. A little more intentional.
You rolled onto his side of the bed. His pillow still warm. That didnât help.
âDonât be dramatic,â you told yourself quietly, and then stayed dramatic anyway for another five minutes.
Finally you got up, pulled on one of his hoodies, and padded downstairs.
The house was not normal.
You knew it before you hit the bottom step.
Not reckless, not fire hazard chaos, but deliberate. Lined along the entry table. The window ledges. The dining room. Soft glow instead of overhead lights.
His voice came from the kitchen.
You turned the corner and just stood there.
Flowers covered the island. Not one bouquet, like six. Different kinds, different colors, arranged like someone panic-bought the entire morning delivery truck.
There were pastry boxes. Chocolate boxes. A stupidly large heart-shaped balloon tied to a chair. Your favorite breakfast laid out already plated, not packaged.
Rafe stood in the middle of it, sleeves pushed up, watching your face like it was the only review that mattered.
âYou said you forgot,â you said slowly.
You blinked. âYouâ what?â
âI lied,â he repeated, calmer. âOn purpose.â
Your brain caught up in pieces. âYou said you forgot.â
âYeah. So I wouldnât ruin the surprise.â
âOnly for like forty minutes,â he said. âEfficient sadness window.â
You stared at him, then at the room, then back at him. âThis is insane.â
He walked closer, slower now, nerves finally showing under the confidence. âItâs our first one,â he said. âI wasnât letting that be small.â
Your chest tightened, warm this time.
âAll this,â you said quietly, âwas already planned.â
âAnd you let me thinkââ
âThat I forgot,â he finished. âYeah.â
You tried to stay annoyed. You really did.
It lasted about three seconds.
âYouâre such an asshole,â you said, smiling.
âYeah,â he said softly. âBut Iâm your asshole.â
You laughed and stepped into him, arms wrapping around his middle. He held you tight immediately â relief grip â like heâd been braced for impact.
âHappy Valentineâs Day,â he murmured into your hair.
âThis is way too much.â
He shook his head. âYouâre way too much. This matches.â
You leaned back to look at him. âYou went over the top.â
âAlways do,â he said. âYou just usually tell me to calm down.â
He kissed you slow, warm, unhurried, certain, like the morning, the house, the ridiculous display, all of it was just background to the real point:
âYou really thought I forgot?â he asked quietly against your lips.
